    “An explosion rocked the provincial capital of northern Kunduz province of Afghanistan this morning with preliminary reports suggesting at least four people have been killed or wounded.

    The blast has reportedly taken place in the center of the city but the target of the explosion has not been ascertained so far.

    Today’s explosion in Kunduz comes a day after the anti-government armed militants suffered heavy casualties during operations in Dasht-e-Archi district.

    The provincial capital of Kunduz briefly fell to Taliban control last year and since then certain districts have been witnessing violence on occasional basis.

    The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said two Pakistani nationals and three other belonging to Tajikistan were among those killed and at least 25 others were wounded.”

    “A suicide bomber of the terrorist group of the Islamic State (IS) which also goes by its Arabic name Daesh has been killed by Taliban in Khogyani District of eastern Nangarhar province.

    The suicide bomber planned to target Mullah Naik Mohammad, a Taliban commander, in Abko area of Pirakhil village on Monday afternoon but failed to detonate his explosives.

    Local officials say Taliban gunmen shot dead the individual after recognizing that he was wearing a suicide vest and came to kill their commander.

    An online terrorist monitoring organization also reported yesterday that key Taliban commander Mullah Naik Muhammad survived an Islamic State suicide attack in Nangarhar province of Afghanistan.

    Daesh and Taliban have not commented on the report.”

    “Afghan forces backed by U.S. air strikes have killed dozens of insurgents loyal to Islamic State this week as they continue a push into areas occupied by the radical group, officials said on Tuesday.

    For months, security forces have been trying to dislodge Islamic State fighters from Achin district, an area in eastern Nangarhar province along the border with Pakistan.

    More than 30 militants were reported killed in the most recent fighting, said Attaullah Khogyani, a spokesman for the Nangarhar provincial government.

    “Daesh fighters who had gathered in Mohman Dara village were attacked by a drone,” he said, using an Arabic acronym for Islamic State.

    Khogyani said as many as 22 were killed in the air strike on Monday, but a U.S. military spokesman would not publicly confirm casualty numbers.

    “U.S. forces conducted a counter-terrorism strike in the Achin district, Nangarhar province, yesterday,” said Col. Michael Lawhorn. “For reasons of operational security, we do not discuss counter-terror operations.”

    Another 15 insurgents died in a gun battle with Afghan troops, Khogyani said, but that number could not be verified.

    “Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Tuesday the Syrian Kurdish YPG militia was taking orders from the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militant group waging an insurgency for Kurdish autonomy in Turkey’s southeast.

    Speaking in parliament, Davutoglu said blaming the PKK for a car bomb attack which killed 28 people last week in the capital Ankara was an attempt to exonerate the YPG. The groups worked together in carrying out the bombing, Davutoglu said.”

    “BRUSSELS’ health and safety laws would have blocked David Cameron finalising his EU renegotiation deal over an ‘English breakfast’ of bacon and eggs, it has emerged.

    At a crunch summit last week, from which the Prime Minister finally walked away with an agreement on his reform demands, European Council president Donald Tusk had planned for EU leaders to sign-off a deal at breakfast on Friday morning.

    A source told the newspaper: “We were fighting to be able to serve an English breakfast”.

    It is thought the Prime Minister was unaware of the kitchen row.

    Eventually, due to the delayed progress of Mr Cameron’s talks, EU leaders ended up being served a dinner of veal late on Friday night.

    During an outbreak of salmonella during a European summit in Maastricht, Netherlands, in 1981, it is estimated around 700 people became ill, with the sickness blamed on a dodgy salad.

    The incident has since been dubbed the ‘gastricht in Maastricht’.”

    Farrakhan’s remarks came Sunday as the Chicago-based movement wrapped up its four-day Saviour’s Day convention in Detroit, which has a black majority population.

    PARIS (Reuters) – French far-right veteran Jean-Marie Le Pen threatened his daughter Marine on Tuesday with launching a rival movement if she refused to accommodate ultra-conservative militants within the National Front party which she now leads.

    Since taking over from her father in 2011, Marine Le Pen has sought to sanitize the anti-immigration party’s image, making it more mainstream and distancing it from its founder’s historic antisemitism. She had him expelled last year for renewing past declarations playing down the Nazi Holocaust.

    Under Jean-Marie, the FN was pro-business, anti-state and anti-tax. It has since become more protectionist and pro-welfare, largely under the influence of Marine’s deputy, Florian Philippot, whose roots were on the left.

  26. Greek police remove migrants from Macedonian border as more land in Piraeus

    ATHENS (Reuters) – Greek police started removing migrants from the Greek-Macedonian border on Tuesday after additional passage restrictions imposed by Macedonian authorities left hundreds stranded while more were ferried from islands to Greece’s main Piraeus port.

    The migrants had squatted on rail lines in the Idomeni area on Monday after attempting to push through the border to Macedonia, angry at delays and additional restrictions in crossing. They were expected to be taken to relocation camps inside Greece.

    Greek police and empty buses had entered the area before dawn, a Reuters witness said. In one area seen from the Macedonian side of the border, about 600 people had been surrounded by Greek police, the witness said.

    There were an estimated 1,200 people at Idomeni, in their vast majority Afghans or individuals without proper travel documents. A crush developed there on Monday after Macedonian authorities demanded additional travel documentation, including passports, for people crossing into their territory.

    Some countries used by migrants as a corridor into wealthier northern Europe are imposing restrictions on passage, prompting those further down the chain to impose similar restrictions for fear of a bottleneck in their own country.

  28. Libya could soon run out of life-saving medicines: U.N.

    CAIRO (Reuters) – Libya faces severe shortages of life-saving medicine and about one million people will soon be in dire need of help, a U.N. humanitarian official warned, as warring factions hamper efforts to end chaos and form a unity government.

    “Our estimation is that by the end of march, Libya may run out of life saving medications which will impact about one million people.” said Ali Al-Za’tari, the United Nations humanitarian coordinator for the North African country.

    “If there is no medication and medical supplies coming in that will be a real issue for Libya.”

    Al-Za’tari was due to meet Arab League delegates on a visit to Cairo to try and win support for U.N. efforts to ease what he calls a humanitarian crisis in Libya.

    His main concern at this point is scarcity of medicine needed to combat diseases like cancer, and the state of hospitals in Libya, which has descended into anarchy since the uprising that toppled Muammar Gaddafi five years ago.

    Compounding the many problems are about 435,000 internally displaced people living in schools and other public places and some 250,000 migrants and refugees who had hoped to pass through Libya and find a better life abroad.

  29. Obama admin defends stringent regulations on colleges by claiming this

    It’s a variation of “The Emperor’s New Clothes.” The Department of Education is defending a series of regulations it has imposed on American colleges and universities by claiming, in the face of substantial evidence to the contrary, that they really aren’t regulations at all. Now, its defiance is setting up a potential clash with Congress.

    Under the Obama administration, the Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights (OCR) has used an 11-page “Dear Colleague” letter from 2011 to aggressively dictate how colleges handle sexual assault and sexual harassment on campus. The “Dear Colleague” letter draws authority from the federal Title IX law prohibiting sex discrimination in education, and lays down very specific requirements. For example, colleges are now required to adjudicate sexual assault allegations using a low “preponderance of the evidence” burden of proof and required to use a very broad definition of harassment.

    • BBC – Calais ‘Jungle’: Migrants’ eviction ruling delayed

      A French court has delayed judgement on the legality of a move to evict migrants from the “Jungle” camp at Calais.

      It had been due on Tuesday but the court now says it will be issued on Wednesday or Thursday.

      Thousands of migrants were faced with a government-imposed deadline to leave the southern half of the camp on Tuesday evening.

      But authorities now say they will delay any action until the court rules.[…]

      But charities argue the migrants are being evicted in mid-winter with inadequate alternative accommodation. They joined 238 migrants to challenge the move in the Lille court.

      […]A judge from the Lille court visited the camp on Tuesday morning to make a first-hand assessment.

      Authorities are under no legal obligation to delay evictions until the court ruling, but a spokesperson for the Calais prefecture said they would so anyway.

      “We’ll wait for a ruling, this is a humanitarian operation and the southern part of the camp will be progressively dismantled as people start leaving the area,” the official said.

      But reports from the camp suggest many residents are determined to stay.

      The southern side of the camp targeted for clearance, says the BBC’s Thomas Fessy, constitutes the cultural and commercial heart of the camp, with makeshift communal facilities such as a centre for teenagers.[…]

      French judge visits ‘Jungle’ camp ahead of eviction verdict

      Migrants and activists gathered outside the Lille administrative tribunal on Tuesday, awaiting the court’s decision on whether refugees can be evicted from the ‘Jungle’ refugee camp in Calais.

      The court was expected to decide whether the eviction and demolition of the southern half of the camp would go ahead, however decided to postpone the ruling just hours before the deadline.

      The clearing of the camp has now been suspended for the time being, while another ruling is expected to take place later in the week.

      The latest video was released on social media this afternoon which purportedly shows the loyalists of the terror group equipped with full military gear and in uniform similar as the ones worn by the fighters of the terror group in Syria and Iraq.

      The high quality video starts with the footage showing the fighters of the terror group performing military exercises similar to the ones performed by the special operation forces.

      Although the location where the video was created has not been ascertained so far, however the footage carries a sign of the Khurasan, the so-called Khurasan province, territorial scope of the terror group covering parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan.

      In other parts of the video, a group of masked armed men are shown carrying a prisoner in orange jump suit before he is executed for unknown reasons.

      This comes as the Afghan defense officials recently said the loyalists of the terror group in Afghanistan have faced major setbacks as a result of the mounting military operations before they manage to establish and expand foothold in the country.

      According to the coalition forces officials, around 1,000 to 3,000 Islamic State fighters in eastern Afghanistan are trying to establish a base of operations in the rugged mountains of Nangahar Province.

      The officials further added that the loyalists of the terror group are operating in four or five remote districts of Nangarhar province.

      Meanwhile, the US Forces in Afghanistan have also increased air campaign against the terror group in this province, carrying at least 20 airstrikes between late January and early February.

      According to reports emerging earlier this month, the US forces in Afghanistan carried out at least 20 airstrikes targeting the loyalists of the terror group in a period of three months from late January to early February.

      The US forces have increased air raids on the loyalists of the terror group after the Obama administration granted new authority last month, allowing the U.S. commanders in Afghanistan launch airstrikes against militants in the same way that the military targets fighters linked to al-Qaida.”

    New York hedge fund manager George Soros is one of the most politically powerful individuals on earth. Since the mid-1980s in particular, he has used his immense influence to help reconfigure the political landscapes of several countries around the world—in some cases playing a key role in toppling regimes that had held the reins of government for years, even decades. Vis à vis the United States, a strong case can be made for the claim that Soros today affects American politics and culture more profoundly that any other living person.

    Much of Soros’s influence derives from his $13 billion personal fortune,1 which is further leveraged by at least another $25 billion in investor assets controlled by his firm, Soros Fund Management.2 An equally significant source of Soros’s power, however, is his passionate messianic zeal. Soros views himself as a missionary with something of a divine mandate to transform the world and its institutions into something better—as he sees it.

    Over the years, Soros has given voice to this sense of grandiosity many times and in a variety of different ways. In his 1987 book The Alchemy of Finance, for instance, he wrote: “I admit that I have always harbored an exaggerated view of self-importance—to put it bluntly, I fancied myself as some kind of god or an economic reformer like Keynes or, even better, a scientist like Einstein.”3 Expanding on this theme in his 1991 book Underwriting Democracy, Soros said: “If truth be known, I carried some rather potent messianic fantasies with me from childhood,” fantasies which “I wanted to indulge … to the extent that I could afford.”4 In a June 1993 interview with The Independent, Soros, who is an atheist,5 said he saw himself as “some kind of god, the creator of everything.”6 In an interview two years later, he portrayed himself as someone who shared numerous attributes with “God in the Old Testament” — “[Y]ou know, like invisible. I was pretty invisible. Benevolent. I was pretty benevolent. All-seeing.   40. Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Bernie Sanders

    Bernard “Bernie” Sanders was born in Brooklyn, New York on September 8, 1941, to Polish immigrants of Jewish descent. After attending Brooklyn College for one year, he transferred to the University of Chicago (UC) and earned a bachelor’s degree in political science in 1964. At UC, Sanders joined the Young Peoples Socialist League (youth wing of the Socialist Party USA) as well as the Congress of Racial Equality and the Student Peace Union. He also was an organizer for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee; participated in an American Friends Service Committee project at a California psychiatric hospital; and worked briefly (as an organizer) for the United Packinghouse Workers Union, which, like all the CIO unions, had a number of influential Communists among its ranks.

    After college, in 1963, Sanders lived and worked for a number of months in an Israeli kibbutz known as Kibbutz Sha’ar Ha’amakim (KSH), which was co-founded by Aharon Cohen, an Arabist who was a harsh critic of Israeli policy and was arrested for spying for the Soviet Union in the 1950s. The founders of KSH referred to Joseph Stalin as the “Sun of the Nations,” and a red flag was flown at outdoor events held at the kibbutz. Sanders stayed at KSH as a guest of the Zionist-Marxist youth movement Hashomer Hatzair (HH), which pledged its allegiance to the Soviet Union; some left-wing groups described HH as Leninist and even Stalinist. HH made it plain that its cooperation with Zionists was a temporary expedient designed to help pave the way for a socialist revolution; that it viewed Israel’s independence as a transitional phase in the development of a bi-national socialist state which would ultimately end Israel’s existence as a Jewish entity.

  45. Obama Wants to Free Most Terrorists from Gitmo

    Freeing Muslim terrorists has always been Obama’s first and foremost priority.

    Gitmo had been Obama’s priority from the start. During his first days in office, three out of his first five executive orders involved the Islamic terrorists locked up at Gitmo. His third executive order outlawed enhanced interrogations of terrorists “to promote the safe, lawful, and humane treatment of individuals in United States custody”. His fourth and fifth sought to close the prison and free its terrorists.

    It took Obama a month to set up the Economic Recovery Advisory Board. It took him two days to set up a Special Interagency Task Force on Detainee Disposition to free Gitmo terrorists. His priority was not the economy, or even gay rights, amnesty and abortion; it was aiding Islamic terrorists.

    So his latest effort to close Gitmo and free most of the terrorists is no surprise.

    The “careful” transfer of 35 detainees to overseas countries; Accelerating the review process for the roughly 56 remaining detainees to see whether they’re eligible for transfer;

  50. DOJ wants ban on proof of citizenship for voter registration

    WASHINGTON (UPI) — The Justice Department supports blocking voter registration forms that require proof of citizenship in three states, according to court filings.

    The department urged U.S. District Judge Richard Leon on Monday to issue a preliminary injunction to prevent Kansas, Alabama and Georgia from using the forms. The injunction was requested by the League of Women Voters, which is suing the U.S. Elections Assistance Commission over the forms.

    The League brought the suit, alleging that the requirement to prove citizenship acts as a barrier to voter registration, particularly for poor, minority and elderly voters who may not have the required documentation.

    The Justice Department’s decision to support the ban is unusual because the Department would otherwise be in the position of defending the EAC in the suit.

    EAC executive director Brian Newby issued a directive on Jan. 29 allowing those three states to add the citizenship requirement to the registration forms.

    In 2013, the Supreme Court struck down an Arizona law that similarly required proof of citizenship in the voter registration process. However, the late Justice Antonin Scalia wrote in the court’s majority opinion that states could seek approval from the EAC for changes to voter registration forms. A year later, a federal appeals court ruled that the EAC was not required to make such changes to the federal registration form. The Supreme Court declined to review that ruling last year.
