“A CHILLING video has been released of a swiss nun taken hostage by al-Qaeda in Mali for the second time.

Beatrice Stockly was taken from her home in Timbuktu with the video demanding a jihadi be released in exchange for the nun.

The shocking eight-minute clip sees Stockly dressed in a hijab in front of an al-Qaeda banner draped in slogans.

She outlines the conditions that would see her released including the freeing of extremist Ahmad Al Faqi Al Mahdi.

Al Mahdi is currently in custody at the International Criminal Court….”

  2. Tory fury as school uses selfishness and Hitler to define being Right-wing (express, Jan 27, 2016)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/638280/Tory-fury-school-selfishness-Hitler-define-Right-wing

“A LESSON for young teenagers that linked Right-wing politics to Germany’s wartime dictator Adolf Hitler and “helping people less” than Left-wingers was condemned yesterday by a senior Conservative MP.

Former police and criminal justice minister Damian Green is calling on Education Secretary Nicky Morgan to investigate urgently.

Mr Green, who was alerted to the issue by an outraged parent, said: “I cannot believe that material with this sort of glaring bias is being used in our schools.

“It is shocking that no one has questioned it.

“I have asked Nicky Morgan to investigate quickly so that it can be rewritten at once.”

The offending item was a work book for Year 10 pupils, aged 14 and 15, at a school in Kent.

It invited pupils to match pictures of British political leaders with their parties and explain the difference between parties and the views they hold.

On a page about what was Left and Right-wing, the Right-wing column was illustrated with a photograph of Hitler and the statements: “Hitler; less help to the people; more help to businesses; we are not equal.”

In stark contrast, the Left?wing column was topped with the front cover of the NHS Constitution – which sets out the health service’s values and patients’ rights.

It included a cartoon of three little stick figures holding hands and the statement that “the NHS belongs to us all”.”

Statements listed below that to represent “Left-wing” views were: “Communism; NHS; helping the people; everyone should be equal.”

  3. North Rhine-Westphalia minister demands ‘equal distibution’ of North African refugees (DW, Jan 26, 2016
    http://www.dw.com/en/north-rhine-westphalia-minister-demands-equal-distibution-of-north-african-refugees/a-19006066

“Ralf Jäger, interior minister in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), has criticized the “concentration” of North African refugees in the western German state. He said many North Africans had been linked to crime in the region.

Speaking in Düsseldorf on Tuesday, Ralf Jäger (a Social Democrat) demanded a more equal distribution of North African migrants across the country. He said that NRW in was currently home to 80 percent of the Moroccan refugees in Germany, and to 50 percent of Algerian asylum seekers nationwide.

Jäger said the high figures were largely due to the close ties between the Federal Office for Refugees and Migration (BAMF) and specialists such as interpreters and country experts, based in particular regions.

As a result, refugees from Morocco and Algeria have been allocated across only four of Germany’s 16 states, namely NRW, Lower Saxony, Baden-Württemberg and Saxony.

According to Jäger, NRW received 6,782 refugees from Algeria and 6,429 from Morocco in 2015, increases of between 300 and 350 percent from the previous year.

The regional interior minister said the current state of affairs was “unacceptable,” adding that NRW was now facing an increasing amount of crime linked to the North African refugees. Jäger also warned against the “stigamatization” of North Africans, however.

According to an evaluation and analysis project lead by Cologne police, more than 21,000 offenses and 17,000 suspects of North African origin have been detected since 2013.

In a second project named “Casablanca,” launched in mid-2014, Düsseldorf police caught 2,242 North African suspects in more than 4,000 offenses, which included pick-pocketing, robbery and bodily harm.

In addition to the police reports, Jäger said on Tuesday that North African immigrants were “often disproportionately involved in disputes at refugee accommodation.”

Many of the supects in the sexual assaults in Cologne at New Year were also described to have been of North African or Middle Eastern appearance.

In light of the hundreds of complaints, a debate has been ignited both regionally and nationwide over whether authorities should make the nationality of criminal suspects public.”

  4. Ofsted threatens to penalise schools where Muslim veil is worn (telegraph, Jan 26, 2016)
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/educationnews/12122713/Ofsted-to-mark-down-schools-if-wearing-the-veil-hinders-learning.html

“Schools will be marked down by Ofsted for the first time if inspectors judge that wearing the veil – by students or teachers – is a “barrier to learning”.

Sir Michael Wilshaw, the chief inspector, has on Tuesday written to all inspectors instructing them to mark down institutions where they believe the veil hinders “positive social interaction”.

He said that people need to listen to David Cameron’s concerns that “our liberal values, our liberal West values, are protected”. The new rules will affect around 16,000 children and just under 1,000 teachers who currently wear the veil to school.

It comes after the Prime Minister announced that Muslim women can be banned from wearing veils in schools, courts and other British institutions.

Mr Cameron said that he will give his backing to public authorities that put in place “proper and sensible” rules to ban women from wearing face veils in comments which will reignite debates.

The Government is preparing to announce a series of measures designed to stop British Muslims becoming radicalised and traveling to the Middle East to join terrorist groups such as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil).

As part of the plans, ministers will pledge to outlaw gender segregation during meetings in public buildings amid concerns that some Muslim organisations are forcing women to sit separately.

Nicky Morgan, the Education Secretary, also announced plans to force schools to help stop teenagers travelling abroad to fight alongside jihadist groups such as Isil.

Schools will be required to inform councils when pupils stop attending without any explanation and Muslim parents will be encouraged to carry out checks to ensure their children are not being radicalised…”

  5. Latin America Takes Action to Control Hezbollah’s Activities

Mexican intelligence, in cooperation with Canadian intelligence services, has recently revealed activities by Lebanese Hizbullah under Iranian support in Latin America: in Venezuela, Mexico, Nicaragua, Chile, Colombia, Bolivia, Ecuador, and the border zone between Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil.?    Mexican authorities recently arrested a Lebanese Hizbullah operative at the U.S. border who was caught with fake identification papers and drugs. The detainee confessed to being associated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and that he was on a mission to collect data on foes of the Iranian government. He said the mission of the “Abbas al-Musawi unit” and the “Imad Mughniyah unit” is to scout out any threats on Iran in a score of countries across the world and prepare for striking them.

Ms Taubira was known to disagree with the controversial proposals,

The citizenship plans were put forward after the 13 November Paris attacks in which 130 people were murdered.

  7. Turkish Prosecutor Seeks Life Term for 2 Jailed Journalists (abcnews, Jan 27, 2016)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/turkish-prosecutor-seeks-life-term-jailed-journalists-36542241

“A Turkish newspaper says prosecutors are seeking life prison terms for two of its journalists who have been jailed on terror and espionage charges for their reports on alleged government arms smuggling to Syria.

Cumhuriyet newspaper says Wednesday an Istanbul prosecutor has completed an indictment against editor-in-chief, Can Dundar, and the paper’s Ankara representative, Erdem Gul. The indictment needs to be accepted by a court before a trial can begin.

In May, Cumhuriyet published what it said were images of Turkish trucks carrying ammunition to Syrian militants. The paper said the images proved that Turkey was smuggling arms to rebels — a claim the government rejects.

The journalists were investigated after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he would not let Dundar get away with it and filed a criminal complaint.”

  8. Germany Bans Far-Right Internet Platform, Detains 2 (abcnews, Jan 27, 2016)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/germany-bans-internet-platform-detains-36542098

“The German government has banned a far-right Internet platform that it accuses of spreading “racist, xenophobic, anti-Semitic, homophobic and anti-Islamic content” and federal prosecutors say two people have been arrested.

German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said Wednesday the ban on the Altermedia Deutschland platform is “a clear sign that the rule of law doesn’t allow hate crime.”

The prosecutor’s office said in a statement that two Germans, identified only as Jutta V. and Ralph Thomas K. in line with German privacy rules, were arrested on suspicion of founding a criminal organization and incitement. Three other suspects weren’t arrested.

The raids were conducted in homes in four German states and the northeastern Spanish town of Lloret de Mar.”

  9. Muslims are ‘not like us’ and will NEVER fit in with British society – ex equalities chief (express, Jan 27, 2016)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/638410/Trevor-Philips-equalities-chief-Muslims-not-like-us-British-society-Islam

“MUSLIMS are fundamentally different from Westerners and politicians should accept that they will NEVER fit in with mainstream British society, a former equalities chief has said.

Trevor Philips, ex head of the much-maligned Equality and Human Rights Commission, has been blasted after claiming that Government efforts to integrate Muslim communities are “disrespectful” and should be stopped.

The controversial equalities chief said Muslims “see the world differently from the rest of us” and should not be asked to change to fit in with Western society.

But his remarks were attacked by faith campaigners, who said the assertion that Muslims are fundamentally different from others was dangerously incorrect and risked creating divisions.

Mr Phillips, who has previously described multiculturalism as a “racket” and slammed the political correctness which stops people talking about race, made the controversial remarks at a meeting of the Policy Exchange think tank in Westminster.

According to the Times, he told the room: “Continuously pretending that a group is somehow eventually going to become like the rest of us is perhaps the deepest form of disrespect.

“Because what you are essentially saying is the fact that they behave in a different way, some of which we may not like, is because they haven’t yet seen the light. It may be that they see the world differently to the rest of us.”

He added that people of certain backgrounds are not going to change their views “simply because we are constantly telling them that basically they should be like us”.

But his comments were blasted by Muslim campaign groups, who insisted the religion is compatible with British society.

A spokesman for the Muslim Council of Britain said: “It assumes that Muslims are not equal, and not civilised enough to be part and parcel of British society, which they most certainly are.”

And Fiyaz Mughal, head of the Tell Mama charity which campaigns against Muslim hate crime, added: “It assumes that Muslims as a whole have views that are inherently different to other communities and that the ‘world view’ of Muslims is different to other communities.

“There are Muslims fully integrated into our society that have a ‘world view’ no different to others and the only difference is they pray five times a day.”

Earlier this week Government equalities Tsar warned that hand-wringing liberals obsessed with political correctness and multiculturalism are failing crime victims.

Louise Casey told the same meeting of Policy Exchange that she had been shocked by the attempted cover-up of the Rotherham grooming scandal, where as many as 1,600 children were abused, saying the official priority seemed to be “Tippexing the word ‘Pakistani’ off children’s files in Rotherham”.”

  10. British ISIS executioner Jihadi Sid ‘wants to be next HITLER and kill Jewish people’ (express, Jan 27, 2016)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/638352/Jihadi-Sid-Siddhartha-Dhar-ISIS-Islamic-State-Syria-Adolf-Hitler

“THE warped Islamic State executioner dubbed Jihadi Sid lauded Adolf Hitler before claiming Jewish people have “little regard for human life” in a shocking rant.

Siddhartha Dhar blasted the “evil” of “Zionism” in a hate-filled clip uploaded to YouTube moments before he fled to join ISIS in war-torn Syria in late 2014.

Praising the depraved Nazi leader, he said: “Other people were aware of this evil doctrine and they did things to stop it. Like Adolf Hitler.”

The sick terrorist’s nine-minute diatribe has emerged on Holocaust Memorial Day, which commemorates the millions of Jewish people who died at the hands of the Nazis.

Dhar, a former bouncy castle salesman, has been touted as the new Jihadi John after appearing in a vile ISIS propaganda video earlier this month.

The 34-year-old, who was was arrested six times for terrorism-related offences, reportedly used Government hand-outs to fund his trip to Syria.

He claimed income support, £247-a-month child benefit for four children, and tax credits, according to the Daily Star.

Cold-blooded Dhar is believed to have first been radicalised after attending a sermon on marriage by hate cleric Omar Bakri Mohammed.

An insider revealed he converted from Buddhism to Islam after finding the extremist marital advice session, titled Jewels of Advice for Husband and Wife, “common sense”.

They said: “He loved all the guidance on how to be a good husband and look after your wife. He just saw it as common sense stuff. After that, he didn’t look back.”….”

  11. It is becoming clear that the west, besides importing jihad and antisemitism, is also importing pedophiles on a grand scale. Did Merkel know this? Does Trudeau? I have some silly questions:

Do some Muslim countries and cultures create more pedophiles than others? Do western countries in their infinite intelligence take this into consideration? Do Muslim mothers protest such behavior by Muslim men? Do Muslim fathers? Why is there not a great media storm in Muslim countries over pedophilia as there has been in the west over the Catholic Church? And compensation to victims? Or is it so old and ingrained a practice in Muslim cultures that it is accepted? Is there a statistical analysis of the percentage of male pedophiles in Muslim countries, and if so, how many have theoretically been imported by Germany? France? Now Canada? Is there a study to tell us how many grown Muslim men have been molested as children? Is there a study to show how many of these men condone repeating such behavior because of their own damaged pasts?

Are these silly questions? Perfect Child?

All these horrible stories of what’s going on in Europe elicit such questions, and make one curious about just how deeply disturbed are the people coming in. Is anyone in our leftist universities asking these questions? Sooner or later it has to be confronted, along with the jihad.

    • All these horrible stories of what’s going on in Europe elicit such questions, and make one curious about just how deeply disturbed are the people coming.

They’re Mohammedans, Johnny. They’re fine doing what they do back in their lares and penates. Pedophilia, bestiality, gang-rape, honor-killing – ’tis as it should be. Has been, always will be.

Those of us on the receiving end in the West are the ones who are disturbed. Or should be. Seems the powers that be in England, Sweden and Germany haven’t been all that troubled by these imported deviants till now.

Wouldn’t be, if they’d kept a lid on it. Even then they didn’t seem unduly vexed until the natives started beating the social media jungle-drums.

Only the prospect of civil disobedience from the most docile of creatures – the spayed and neutered European – is provoking a tepid response. And then only to protect the perverts and the gravy-train ‘they rode in on’.
      [To coin a phrase.]

Perfectchild might call these brainwashed slaves of Allah and their separate but equally brainwashed socialist enablers ‘sociopaths’.
Probably not, though. He’s a wicked tease.

    • Islam has a different view on just about everything. Its quite difficult, and may I say, unpleasant, to learn how that view works to the point that you can synthesize answers from that root dogma.

They view boys with no pubic hair as not males so they can be raped and abused sexually at will. Probably the best known systemic example of this is Afghanistan’s Bachi boys (Sp) but Pakistan has the same problem. I have posted videos on both but Obama is sufficiently on side with it that he had a decorated US soldier face court martial for reporting on a man who was raping a boy. Many soldiers report that Afghan police and soldiers will shoot to death, boys who attempt to run away from outposts who are kept there as sexual slaves. Of course if the boy grows public hair and enjoys sex with other men, he is a homosexual and to be murdered for it. As I say, a total moral inversion.

The answer as to why there is no outcry about child rape in islam and there is over the fairly rare child abuse in the church can be answered by this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrt6msZmU7Y in the section on critical theory. There is also a decent video by I think Dispatches Channel4 on boy rape in Pakistan. The percentages you ask for are astronomical. If I were God, I would wipe it out and start over with maybe, an ant farm or something. Maybe that’s whats coming.

  12. China warns Soros against ‘declaring war’ on its currency

    http://www.marketwatch.com/story/china-warns-soros-against-declaring-war-on-its-currency-2016-01-26

Not long after billionaire George Soros forecast a so-called hard landing for the Chinese economy, Beijing fired back by calling out the high-profile investor, warning him of betting against its currency, according to media reports Tuesday.

“Soros’ challenge against the renminbi and Hong Kong dollar is unlikely to succeed, there is no doubt about that,” said a government official in an opinion piece widely cited by several media outlets.

The article headlined, ”Declaring war on China’s currency? Ha ha,” was published by the People’s Daily, the official newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party which is widely viewed as Beijing’s propaganda tool.

A translation of the Mandarin version of the editorial linked by ZeroHedge includes references to the U.S. suffering from a “Dutch disease” and “financial predators.”

Reports of the People’s Daily’s article follow Soros’ recent prediction that a precipitous slowdown in the Chinese economy is inevitable.

    • Several years ago during a economic mess Soros shorted the Chinese currency and they blame him for damaging their economy. They have been warning him to leave their currency alone ever since.

  13. Pepper the robot is going to staff an entire phone store
Are you happy to buy a smartphone contract from a robot

Kicking off an event that showcases Softbank’s Pepper robot working in a business environment, the Japanese phone carrier says it’s going to test it out for itself, announcing a Pepper phone shop staffed entirely by its robots. According to the company, you’ll be able to sign up to a phone contract with the robot. (In fact, that’s apparently the robot on the left’s role; in the middle is the store manager and on the right is “time killer” Pepper.) That sounds both incredible and hugely suspicious, but I’ll have to wait until the end of March to check it out for myself.

  14. Iran says warns U.S. warship to leave waters near Strait of Hormuz

DUBAI (Reuters) – Iran’s navy warned a U.S. warship on Wednesday to leave waters near the Strait of Hormuz where the Iranians were testing submarines, destroyers and missile launchers, news agencies reported.

The commander of Iran’s fleet, Rear-Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, told Tasnim news agency the U.S. ship was trying to collect information in the Sea of Oman – an area close to the Strait, a vital oil and gas shipping route – and said it left quickly after the alert.

There was no immediate reaction from Washington which this month joined other world powers in lifting sanctions on the Islamic Republic after Iran agreed to curtail its nuclear program.

In the days before that deal, Iran briefly detained 10 U.S. sailors after their boats entered its waters because of what they said was a navigational error

  16. DHS Wants Better Social Media Screening Technology

The Department of Homeland Security wants businesses to present their cutting-edge social media analytics services next month — especially technology that could enhance criminal investigations, traveler screenings and situational awareness.

In a new request for information, DHS said it is looking for open source analytics tools that can make internal operations more efficient and reduce costs through “advanced analytic automation,” across the department, all while using “privacy, civil rights and civil liberties-protecting analytic methods.”

Respondents have until Feb. 9 to submit descriptions of their analytics capabilities, including geospatial processing, foreign and spoken language processing, and keyword, image and video analysis, among other elements.

DHS plans to ask 30 “exemplars of social media analytics capabilities in the market place” to present technology that could help analysts find patterns “in the context of homeland security investigative, screening and/or homeland security mission related situation awareness missions.”

    • Germany says flow of fighters to Syria and Iraq increasing

BERLIN — Germany’s domestic intelligence agency says the number of Islamic extremists heading to Syria and Iraq continues to grow, raising concerns over trained fighters returning who could carry out attacks in Europe.

The agency said Wednesday its latest evidence shows 790 people so far have made the trip from Germany to link up with militant groups in the Mideast, up from 750 in October, and about one-third had returned.

Agency head Hans-Georg Maassen says “the security situation is serious.”

Germany so far has been spared mass-casualty attacks by Islamic extremists such as the Nov. 13 Paris attacks but security officials say it is also a target.

All but two of the Paris attackers were from Belgium or France and French authorities maintain the attacks were planned in Syria.

CBS News reported earlier this week that, according to the latest figures, more foreign fighters have gone from Belgium to join jihadist groups in Syria and Iraq, per capita, than any other European nation.

According to the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation and Political Violence (ICSR), 440 people have gone to join the fight from Belgium, and an estimated 130 of them have come back home.

CBSN went to Molenbeek, the predominately Muslim community in Brussels which has, in recent months, become the ground zero of terror in Europe.

Three of the Paris attackers, including ringleader Abdelhamid Abaaoud, grew up there.

By contrast, an estimated 500 foreign fighters in Syria and Iraq have come from Germany, but it is a much more populous nation.

  17. Anger in Italy as statues covered to save Iranian blushes
Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi came under fire on Tuesday after ancient nude statues in Rome’s Capitoline museum were covered up to avoid any possible offense to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani who is visiting the country.

Italy and Iran will sign up to 17 billion euros of business deals during the two day visit of the Iranian delegation which began on Monday, but Italian opposition leaders and commentators said Renzi had gone too far to please his guest.

Politicians on the left and right said not only had Renzi made almost no reference to Iran’s human rights record during a joint news conference, but had also “surrendered” Italy’s cultural identity by hiding the nude statues of women.

  18. Greece: ISIS funded by Turkish money for a ‘long, long time’ – Israeli DefMin

The so-called Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ ISIL) has “enjoyed Turkish money for oil for a very, very long period of time,” said Moshe Yaalon, Israeli Defence Minister, at a joint press conference with his Greek counterpart Panos Kammenos in Athens, Tuesday.

SOT, Panos Kammenos, Greek Minister of Defence (Greek): “We all want Turkey to have good intentions and come to our side for a joint planning of counter-terrorism. All we wanted Turkey to have a behaviour according to the international standards, the international law and the alliance of the good. This requires from Turkey to change the attitude, in order to have a good relationship and alliance with a country, first of all you must recognise – Turkey still does not recognise Cyprus. The second is the issue of terrorism. I totally agree on what the minister said. The truth is that the more oil traded by Daesh – the terrorists – is being traded through Turkey and is being trafficked through Turkey by funding terrorism. It would be desirable, if Turkey decided to change its attitude, not to cooperate with terrorism, not proceed into acts which cause problems in the area. Turkey should take advantage of the funding from the European Union and to manage for its own economic benefit to stop the refugees on the Turkish coast, of course, with the consideration that the international community has given us so that we can transform the Mediterranean into a sea of peace, cooperation and stability.”

A Somali boy, 15, living at centre, was arrested on suspicion of murder

The head of the Swedish police has sparked outrage by expressing sympathy with the teenage asylum seeker accused of murdering social worker Alexander Mezher.

National Police Commissioner Dan Eliasson, who has already admitted police cannot cope with the wave of migrant crime, said he has concerns about the ‘horrors’ and trauma the accused murderer may have witnessed.

He said he was ‘distraught’ on behalf of Miss Mezher’s family but also for the killer, saying: ‘What has that person been through? Under what circumstances has he grown up? What is the trauma he carries?’

It came as court documents showed police do not know the true identity of the youth who has been arrested for the killing. The papers, obtained by MailOnline, state that the identity of the Somali boy claiming to be 15 is ‘unknown’.

Well, you are of course distraught on behalf of everyone involved,’ Mr Eliasson said in an interview with SVT – the Swedish equivalent of the BBC.

Cologne Attacks: German Women Respond By Handing Out Flowers To Refugees

German women are handing flowers to refugees across the country to protest against violence, in light of the Cologne New Year’s Day attacks.

The ‘Flowers for Humanity in Cologne’ campaign took to the streets on Friday and saw close to one hundred women visit the city’s biggest refugee center to present them with roses.

An ongoing gesture, thousands more are expected to join in similar events this weekend, after an online gathering is campaigning for an end to xenophobia.

    • Cologne sex attacks: ‘Safe zone’ for women planned ahead of city’s carnival

There are concerns the large crowds could leave women vulnerable to the sort of attacks seen on New Year’s Eve

Authorities in the German city of Cologne are to set upstrong> a “safe zone” for women during the annual carnival which begins next week, to avoid a repeat of the New Year sex attacks on women.

The move comes after it emerged two asylum-seekers from Algeria are being held as suspects in the sex assaults.

The Cologne carnival is one of the largest street festivals in Europe, and attracts more than 1m people to its main parade each year.

There are concerns the large crowds could leave women vulnerable to the sort of attacks seen on New Year’s Eve, when police were havily outnumbered.

The authorities plan to provide extra street lighting and set up a “safe zone” for women in the city centre, staffed with social workers.

“We are aware these carnival days are a challenge for us to show that we have learned from the terrible events of New Year’s Eve,” Guido Kahlen, a city councillor, said.

Two alleged brothers from Algeria have been identified as suspects in the sex attacks.

The two brothers, named only as Farouk B and Abderahemane B under German privacy laws, are among some 30 men being held in connection with the events of New Year’s Eve.

Most are being held in connection with a series of robberies against women. But police believe they have evidence linking the two Algerians to the sexual assaults, according to Spiegel magazine.

The two men entered Germany as asylum-seekers last November. Despite their short time in the country are already known to police in connection with a series of incidents, including pickpocketing and a fight.

Police are reportedly sceptical of their claim to be brothers. Farouk B was first named as a suspect last week, while the allegations against Abderahemane have only now emerged.

The news came as police warned they could face difficulty securing convictions against those responsible for the sex attacks.

“We’re really giving it everything, and we may end up with a few suspended sentences — if that,” a police source told Spiegel.

Officers have been seconded to the investigation from across the Cologne force.

“Every tenth detective in Cologne is now working on the events of New Year’s Eve,” Sebastian Fiedler of the German police union said.

But the investigation is believed to be struggling because Cologne has no official CCTV cameras.

Police are being forced to identify suspects from private security cameras belonging to nearby businesses and mobile phone footage.

The time stamps on the different cameras often do not match, making it difficult to use the footage as evidence in court.

  21. Migrant crisis: EU threatens Greece over border controls (BBC, Jan 27, 2016)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-35416741

“Greece has “seriously neglected” its obligations to control the external frontier of Europe’s passport-free Schengen zone, the European Commission says in a draft report.

The assessment found failures to register, check and fingerprint migrants arriving in November.
Greece is now likely to be given three months to rectify the situation.

If it does not improve, the EU may recommend other Schengen states to reintroduce temporary border controls.

The migrant crisis has put the future of the Schengen agreement at risk.

Several EU states, including Austria and Hungary, have already introduced temporary border controls to reduce the number of arrivals.

Greek ministers have reacted angrily to previous suggestions the country could be isolated from the EU’s free movement principle…”

“Thousands of people fled a district of the mainly Kurdish city of Diyarbakir in southeastern Turkey on Wednesday after authorities fighting Kurdish militants there expanded a 24-hour curfew to include five more neighborhoods.

Meanwhile, three soldiers were killed in an attack in Diyarbakir’s historic Sur district, which has been under a curfew since December as the security forces battle Kurdish militants who are linked to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK. The private Dogan news agency reported heavy fighting in Sur, where the military says at least 134 militants have been killed since December.

A statement from the local administrator’s office for Sur said the curfew — which bars residents from leaving homes and observers or journalists from entering to monitor the fighting — was enlarged to enable the security forces to “restore public order” in neighborhoods where the militants had allegedly dug trenches and set barricades and explosive devices.

Authorities have been imposing curfews in towns and districts to flush militants from urban areas in Turkey’s mostly Kurdish southeast since the collapse of a peace process with the PKK in July. The Turkish Human Rights Foundation says at least 198 civilians, including 39 children, have died in combat areas under curfew since August…”

His father, Xhevahir Daci, denied his son had joined the group, saying he left Albania to seek a job abroad.

    The trial opened Wednesday.

Separately, another nine Albanian Muslims, including two preachers, are on trial accused of allegedly of recruiting more than 70 men to fight with rebels in Syria.

About two-thirds of Albania’s 3.2 million inhabitants are Muslims. Mainstream religious leaders have asked believers not to join rebel groups in Syria.”

    http://tribune.com.pk/story/1035182/pakistani-journalists-activists-faced-increasing-hostility-in-2015-hrw/

“Journalists and activists in Pakistan faced an increasingly hostile climate in 2015 due to harassment, threats and violence from both the state and militant groups, according to Human Rights Watch report released on Wednesday.

In the 659-page World Report 2016, which has reviewed human rights practices in more than 90 countries, HRW says the government imposed new restrictions on free speech and funding of civil society groups in 2015 due to the security situation faced by the country.

Asia director of Human Rights Watch Brad Adams said Pakistan should not curb freedom of expression and association under the threat of extremism.

“Pakistan should reverse course and repeal or amend laws curbing freedom of expression and association,” he said.

“The government should never use the threat of extremist violence as a pretext to violate the rights of independent voices.”

Similarly, the report claimed, Taliban and other armed extremist groups threatened media outlets and targeted journalists and activists for their work.

  32. Leader of Tajik terrorist movement Jamaat Ansarullah killed in Afghanistan (khaama, Jan 27, 2016)
    http://www.khaama.com/leader-of-tajik-terrorist-movement-jamaat-ansarullah-killed-in-afghansitan-4518

“Tajikistan says Mullah Amriddin, the leader of banned Tajik movement of Jamaat Ansarullah has been killed in Afghanistan, Interfax news agency reports.

The country’s Interior Minister Ramazon Rahimzoda told a press conference on Monday that Mullah Amriddin was killed during a special operation.

“The fate of Mullah Amriddin is already decided. He was killed in Afghanistan, approximately six months ago. He was killed during a special operation,” according to Interfax, Rahimzoda said during the Monday press conference.

Amriddin Tabarov, also known as Mullah Amriddin, was a field commander from the United Tajik Opposition front during the 1992-97 civil war in Tajikistan.

In the late 1990s, Tabarov opposed to an agreement on peace and national accord between the Tajik government and the opposition.

Together with militants from the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU), he moved to Afghanistan and then to Pakistan.

Later, news surfaced that a group loyal to Mullah Amriddin broke away from the IMU and formed a separate group, Jamaat Ansarullah.

Jamaat Ansarullah became known in Tajikistan in September 2010 when a mined GAZ-24 car rammed the building of the Sughd Region police department on organized crime in Khujand, the second biggest city in Tajikistan. The suicide bomber killed two police officers and wounded at least 20.

In May 2012, the Supreme Court of Tajikistan banned Jamaat Ansarullah as a terrorist organization financed by Al-Qaeda.”

  33. U.S. might stay in Afghanistan for decades (khaama, Jan 27, 2016)
    http://www.khaama.com/u-s-might-stay-in-afghanistan-for-decades-4523

“Top U.S. military commanders, who only a few months ago were planning to pull the last American troops out of Afghanistan by year’s end, are now quietly talking about an American commitment that could keep thousands of troops in the country for decades, The Washington Post reports.

The news agency citing senior military officials say that the shift in mind-set, made possible by President Obama’s decision last fall to cancel withdrawal plans, reflects the Afghan government’s vulnerability to continued militant assault and concern that terrorist groups such as al-Qaeda continue to build training camps whose effect could be felt far beyond the region.

“What we’ve learned is that you can’t really leave,” a senior Pentagon official with extensive experience in Afghanistan and Iraq has been quoted in the report as saying. “The local forces need air support, intelligence and help with logistics. They are not going to be ready in three years or five years. You have to be there for a very long time.”

The report further states that there is a broad recognition in the Pentagon that building an effective Afghan army and police force will take a generation’s commitment, including billions of dollars a year in outside funding and constant support from thousands of foreign advisers on the ground.

  34. USA – Self-avowed anti-Islam activist arrested in connection with the Oregon ‘militia’ investigation

A self-avowed anti-Islam activist who allegedly participated in the militiamen occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon has been arrested.

Authorities released a statement Tuesday night announcing that the FBI’s Phoenix Division took Ritzheimer into custody Tuesday night “on a federal charge related to the armed occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.”

According to the statement, Ritzheimer surrendered to police in Peoria, Arizona, after the militia’s leader, Ammon Bundy, and several others were arrested in eastern Oregon.

Police say Ritzheimer was taken into custody without incident.

He’s being held on a felony charge in connection with the takeover of the federal facility in Oregon.

Ritzheimer posted a Facebook message Tuesday night asking for donations and legal help before surrendering:

In the post, he says he returned to Arizona to visit his family, and acknowledged that “The Feds know I am here and are asking me to turn myself in.”

Federal authorities had been watching Ritzheimer closely in recent weeks, after he aligned himself with the militiamen who took over the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in early January.

In an interview with The Washington Post, Heidi Beirich with the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Intelligence Project called Ritzheimer “unhinged,” and said “he’s potentially very dangerous … He’s rabid about everything.”

Ritzheimer first became nationally known in May last year when he organized an anti-Islam rally that was held in front of a mosque in Phoenix. At the time, Ritzheimer called it a “freedom of speech” rally to “push out the truth about Islam,” and encouraged participants to “utilize their Second Amendment rights” while at the gathering.

When local government and civil rights groups overwhelmingly denounced the rally, Ritzheimer declared “I can’t let my kids grow up in a society where tyranny is reigning over,” and asked for donations so his family could “go into hiding.”

  35. Progressivism and Eugenics, Down the Memory Hole

Progressives’ slickest trick is that every time their policies fail they claim “No, that wasn’t ‘real’ Progressivism.”

It’s the “No True Scotsman” fallacy. The fallacy that “your people” would never do something bad and, if they ever do, well those weren’t really your people. “Exculpatory sub-grouping,” in psychologist Aiden Gregg’s phrase.

We see this fallacy repeatedly from the socialists: it’s never “real” socialism from Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Pol Pot, North Korea, Cuba, or Venezuela. However passionately every one of these regimes believed themselves to be socialist, every time they fail the propagandists write them out of the movement. On the one hand, Christians have to continue explaining Galileo or the Spanish Inquisition 500 years later, but the left’s media dominance lets them ignore their disgusting and very recent history.

One spectacular little dirty skeleton — and the one that most obviously reveals Progressivism’s affinity with Hitler — is their “racial hygiene” movement. A recent article in the left-wing New Republic, to its credit, details the movement. The Progressives wanted to use government force to eliminate racial “undesirables,” either by forced sterilization or by shutting undesirables away in institutions. So they couldn’t breed, while still contributing their labor to society. Concentration camps, in the service of racial hygiene.

The fact that Progressive eugenics continued into the 1970’s, and that eugenics created programs they continue to hawk — like the minimum wage — makes it breathtaking that they still get away with disowning their sordid past. Indeed, the minimum wage intent is obvious once we realize that the minimum wage always aimed to ban low-wage labor. The logic was that, denied the opportunity to work for a living, “undesirables” would either obligingly die off, or they would voluntarily enter institutions. Where they could then be prevented from breeding, from contaminating society with their genes. Adding outrage was Progressives’ misrepresenting such an evil agenda as charity for the targets — the labor-law equivalent of greeting inmates off the rail-cars with a nice, free shower.

    • The Dark History of Liberal Reform
A new history of early 20th-century American progressivism puts eugenics at the center.
      By Malcolm Harris
      January 21, 2016

The 1926 case Tennessee v. John Thomas Scopes is a favorite liberal American story. On one side, a substitute accused of teaching evolution, the famed progressive attorney Clarence Darrow, and science itself. On the other, the state of Tennessee, creationism, and the populist demagogue William Jennings Bryan, who by the end of the trial was only days from death. Scopes lost the battle, but reason and progress won the war and the film adaptation. The Scopes Monkey Trial, as it was called, is a progressive touchstone, and in the minds of many it continues to describe the difference between the two mainstream American political ideologies.

When one revisits the primary material, however, the mainstream liberal narrative is far too simple. Jennings Bryan railed against evolution, true, but not just evolution as we understand the theory today. His never-delivered closing statement indicted the “dogma of darkness and death” as a danger to the country’s moral fabric. It sounds far out, but at the time evolution came with a social agenda that its proponents taught as fact. Jennings Bryan didn’t use its name; today, we call it eugenics.

Scopes was charged for teaching from a textbook called A Civic Biology: Presented in Problems, published in 1914. The book taught Darwin’s doctrine as fact, but it didn’t leave his conclusions there. The author, George William Hunter, not only asserted the biological difference of races, he insisted on the vital importance of what he called “the science of being well born”—eugenics. Like most progressives of the time, Hunter believed in “the improvement of man” via scientific methods. That meant promoting personal hygiene, proper diet, and reproductive control. A Civic Biology also has suggestions for what to do with “bad-gened” people, in a section called “The Remedy.” “If such people were lower animals,” the books says, “we would probably kill them off to prevent them from spreading. Humanity would not allow this, but we do have the remedy of separating the sexes in asylums or other places and in various ways preventing intermarriage and the possibilities of perpetuating such a low and degenerate race. Remedies of this sort have been tried successfully in Europe.”
