About 20 years ago I lived in the Netherlands. Amsterdam to be precise. I don’t know if it is still the same but finding decent affordable accommodation in Amsterdam is an onerous task – especially when you are on a budget, as I was. After some difficulty, I did find a fairly decent flat, but I left it, in the middle of the night, with my rucksack and all my possessions, because my landlord did not understand, nor did he want to accept, that I wasn’t interested in a sexual relationship with him.
Fast forward eight months or so, and I am living in a new flat with a female friend of mine. Late one night, while my friend and I were sitting talking in her room, someone let himself in. He immediately decided to take his trousers off and walk in to the bedroom with a stupid “entitled” grin on his face. We left the flat, there and then, with our rucksacks and all our possessions. So, twice within a year I had to leave the place I lived because of nasty little men who thought they had every right to treat women as if we owe them sex.
In both cases, the landlords were Moroccan immigrants who had not long been living in Holland. On a separate occasion, a taxi driver drove past several times while I was walking with a friend in central Amsterdam. He threw a rather grim present out the window at us. It didn’t hit us.
What the hell is this about? Any woman that allows another to call her a whore is in trouble that her father can’t cure. It doesn’t matter about so called “jokes around the pool.” The woman should show her back to a man that denigrates her or hits her. That is on the woman, not her father.

At least seven militants and 13 soldiers also were wounded, with most of the government casualties hit by Abu Sayyaf snipers, he added.
Tan said troops were advancing slowly because of the snipers and have yet to capture the camp.
“If we become careless in our advance, we will have many fatalities,” he said, adding that the camp is in a mountainous area and cannot be easily reached by armored vehicles.
He said the number of dead militants was based on accounts from engaged troops. The bodies were not recovered because they were dragged away by their comrades, he added.
The Philippines and the United States have listed the Abu Sayyaf as a terrorist organization for kidnappings, beheadings, extortion and bomb attacks. The al-Qaida-linked militants have been weakened but have survived more than a decade of U.S.-backed offensives.
The Abu Sayyaf is suspected of kidnapping two Canadians, a Norwegian and a Filipino woman from a marina in the south in September. Militants who identified themselves in an online video as belonging to the Abu Sayyaf demanded more than $60 million for the release of the three foreigners.
The militants were also allegedly behind the beheading of a Malaysian hostage in Sulu province, where Abu Sayyaf gunmen are believed to be holding other foreign and Filipino hostages.”

VIENNA (Reuters) – Two people have been arrested at a refugee center in the Austrian city of Salzburg on suspicion of being connected to last month’s Paris attacks, the Salzburg prosecutors’ office said on Wednesday.
The two are men who are thought to have provided help to members of the group that carried out the attacks on Nov. 13 in which 130 people were killed, two Austrian newspapers reported.
“Two people who arrived from the Middle East were arrested at the weekend in accommodation for refugees on suspicion of belonging to a terrorist organization,” Robert Holzleitner, a spokesman for the Salzburg prosecutor’s office, said.
“As part of the preliminary investigation, evidence suggesting a connection with the Paris attacks is being verified,” he added, declining to comment on the specifics of the newspaper reports.
The men came into contact with the Paris attackers in Austria, local newspaper Salzburger Nachrichten reported, adding that they were found based on information provided by a foreign intelligence service.

DUBAI (Reuters) – The commander of foreign operations for Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards visited Russia last week and met President Vladimir Putin, Fars news agency reported on Wednesday, a sign of closer ties as their regional alliance gains momentum.
General Qassem Soleimani, head of the Quds Force, last visited in July to aid in planning the Russian military intervention in Syria. Russia and Iran support Syrian President Bashar al-Assad against rebels in that country’s civil war.
Backed by Russian air strikes, hundreds of Iranian troops have arrived in Syria since late September to take part in a pro-government ground offensive, their biggest deployment in the country to date.

A seven-day truce, timed to coincide with the peace talks, began at mid-day on Tuesday to halt fighting in nine months of civil war between the Iran-allied Houthi movement based in Yemen’s north and Saudi-backed southern and eastern fighters loyal to President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
The prisoner swap would be one of the most positive signs yet in the civil war, which has killed almost 6,000 people and drawn in foreign powers.
Some 360 members of the Houthi movement held in Aden would be exchanged for 265 southern civilians and fighters, and both groups were en route by bus toward the exchange venue in central Yemen according to officials from the warring sides.

It appears that the same threat was received in Los Angeles and New York Tuesday morning. It was ultimately deemed to be a hoax, something that federal authorities say they thought from the beginning. The authorities in New York City came to the same conclusion, and didn’t mount a big reaction to it.

Marine Le Pen lashes out over ISIL comparison
National Front leader tweets photos of executions after critic compares her to terror group.
PARIS — French far-right leader Marine Le Pen lashed out Wednesday against a journalist and an academic who compared her supporters to followers of ISIL, posting photos of its violent executions to her Twitter feed.
The National Front party president was reacting to an interview with French Arabist and Islam specialist Gilles Kepel, who argued in a recently published book that ISIL wanted to push France toward civil war.
In an interview on RMC radio, Kepel said that ISIL and the National Front both prospered thanks to a widespread loss of faith in so-called Republican values. He pointed to the far-right’s embrace of historical references to conflicts with Muslim invaders, notably the 732 A.D. battle of Poitiers, as a sign that political extremists were preparing for some sort of violent showdown.
“[Jihadism and the far-right] are of course not the same thing but they are two things that resemble each other because in both cases we’re in a society where inclusion is weaker and weaker,” Kepel said.
“People who are marginalized are throwing out the values of the Republic,” he added, referring to Islamic jihadism. “In the case of the extreme right it’s not a totally different phenomenon, but touches other people.”
In response, Le Pen posted a series of graphic photographs from staged ISIL executions with the message, “#Daesh is THIS!” Twitter has censored some of the images, requiring the click of a button to view what Twitter has labeled as “shocking content.”
Kepel’s comments about ISIL pushing France toward civil war echoed similar statements by Prime Minister Manuel Valls last week, which referred to the National Front.
The National Front leader also tweeted a statement denouncing Kepel’s “filthy” comments and demanding that he take them back, which both Kepel and the radio host, Jean-Jacques Bourdin, refused to do, arguing that Le Pen had misunderstood the statement.
To avoid any doubt about who posted the tweets, Le Pen initialed her posts “MLP.”
The leader of the National Front tweeted again Wednesday morning, calling for National Front voters to protest the radio program.
“Voters of the FN, @JJBourdin_RMC compared you to Daesh. Say what you think of RMC” she tweeted.
National Front followers quickly responded to Le Pen’s call, posting pictures of the Bataclan after the November 13 terrorist attacks that left 130 dead in the French capital.

French far-right leader Marine Le Pen faced sharp criticism Wednesday after tweeting a graphic image of an Islamic State beheading in response to a TV journalist who likened her National Front party to the militant group.
“This is Daesh (an Arabic acronym for the Islamic State group),” Le Pen fired back in a series of tweets picturing grisly ISIS atrocities.
In one image a bloodied body lay with his decapitated head on his chest, another depicted a man on fire in a cage, while a third showed a victim being driven over by a tank.
Prime Minister Manuel Valls described the photos as “monstrous”.
“Madame Le Pen: inflaming public debate, political and moral failing, non-respect for victims,” he wrote on his Twitter account.
Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve alerted the police to look into the tweets “as they do every time these photos are published”.
The photos are “Daesh propaganda and are a disgrace, an abomination and an absolute insult to all victims of … Daesh,” said Cazeneuve.
Le Pen was reacting to comments by BFM journalist Jean-Jacques Bourdin whom she accused of drawing parallels between her National Front (FN) party and Islamic State in an “unacceptable bungle”.
Bourdin, during his show known for combative one-on-one interviews, posed a question to Arab world expert Gilles Kepel in which he suggested there were “links” between FN and ISIS as both sought to push the French to cling to their cultural identity.
Le Pen’s FN scored a record number of votes in regional elections on Sunday, boosted by concerns over the migrant crisis and terrorism, though they failed to win control of any regions.

Germany accuses two Palestinians of planning attack on Israeli embassy
BERLIN: Two young men of Palestinian descent are on trial in Germany for planning to bomb the Israeli embassy in Berlin or other Israeli targets, a criminal court spokesman said Wednesday.
The two men, both aged 21, were arrested in July and appeared in court on Tuesday, where they were charged with planning a violent act.
One of the two holds German citizenship and the other is stateless, the court spokesman said. Islamist propaganda was found on the mobile phone of one, the spokesman said.
The two stuffed a can with gun powder purchased on the black market and sealed it with toothpaste.
“It is not clear how they planned to detonate it,” the spokesman said. “They had a plan to use it against the Israeli embassy or another Israeli target at some time in the future. There was no concrete plan of action. It was a general plan.”
The two will appear in court again on Dec. 18, one of five remaining hearings in their case before a court decision on Jan. 14.

Refugees: ‘Austria isn’t what we expected’
An increasing number of asylum seekers from Afghanistan, Iraq and Kosovo are returning to their countries, saying that they had expected better care and a shorter asylum process in Austria.
Figures from the Interior Ministry show that between January and November this year over 1,100 Kosovans left Austria voluntarily. Kosovo is considered to be a safe country of origin and migrants have little chance of obtaining asylum in Austria.
Migrants from Iraq and Afghanistan have a good chance of being registered as asylum seekers but so far 530 people from Iraq have returned home, and 120 from Afghanistan. “This trend has become more noticeable since mid-September,” Interior Ministry spokesman Karl-Heinz Grundböck said.
The Caritas charity confirmed that between September 1st and December 14th 257 Iraqis, 35 Afghans and 53 Iranians flew home – most of whom had been resident in Vienna. In 2014 only two Iraqis, nine Afghans and one Iranian chose to return to their own countries.
“Many are afraid of being deported and the humiliation of that,” Caritas spokesman Martin Gantner said. He added that others are returning because they miss their families, and some had different expectations of what Austria and Europe would be like. “There are so many uncertainties for them here in Austria, many refugees are traumatized and need a sense of security,” he said.
Three Iraqi men in their 20s who spoke to the Kurier newspaper say they plan to fly home on Wednesday after three months in Austria. They are all computer engineers and had hoped to build a better life here. “We wanted peace, freedom and a future,” 23-year-old Muqdad said. He and his friends have been living in emergency refugee accommodation in Vienna’s 3rd district.
“We’ve just been humiliated here,” said Omer. “It was a mistake to come. People look at us here as if we were terrorists, and all we want is peace. Dogs are treated better than refugees in Austria – at least they have something good to eat, and are even given something to wear.”
The Afghan and Iraqi embassies in Vienna have also confirmed that increasing numbers of their citizens are choosing to return to their countries and said that they are issuing travel documents to dozens of people every day. The flights are mainly financed by the Interior Ministry and the EU.
Günter Ecker, the head of Vienna’s human rights association (VMÖ), expects the trend to continue. “Many Iraqis say that they expected better social care here, and many also had a misleading idea of how long the asylum process might take. They didn’t realise that they might have to wait a year or more until their families could join them here.”

Turkey withholds 27 Russian ships for failing to meet sailing criteria
Eight Turkish ships currently docked in Russian ports have been denied the ability to travel since the military jet downing incident on Nov. 24. This has led Turkey to tighten its inspections of Russian ships in response, and has so far withheld 27 Russian ships due to the failure to meet sailing criteria.
According to Turkish daily Habertürk, based on shipping officials in Ankara, the number of Turkish ships held by Russia reached eight this week. Turkey, using the principle of reciprocity, tightened the inspections in Turkish ports in line with the Mediterranean and Black Sea memorandums. So far, 27 ships have been withheld from sailing as they failed to meet the criteria set by these memorandums. Following these incidents, Turkish and Russian authorities contacted each other via email, with the Russian side giving the green light for a meeting to overcome the crisis, although how and when the parties will meet is unclear. The withheld Russian ships were described as old vessels.
As soon as the Russian Su-24 fighter was downed by Turkey for violating its airspace, Russia began implementing non-reciprocal trade ties and customs practices. Having detained Turkish businesspeople as well as not letting Turkish trucks cross the border, Moscow began denying Turkish trade vessels entry to Russian ports. A roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro)-type ship, which departed from Samsun in northern Turkey, was reportedly not allowed to approach the Port of Novorossiysk. It was also reported that the ship is being kept in open waters.
While Turkish officials have long attempted to ease the tensions by emphasizing that Russia is not an enemy of Turkey and Turkey’s right to protect its borders had to be respected, Russia’s aggression has affected trade ties. Moreover, Russia further strained the two country’s commercial relations by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev’s approving a list of sanctions against Turkey in retaliation for the downing of a Russian warplane, but the measures stuck largely to what Moscow had previously threatened and had several notable omissions. The order, published on the government’s official website on Tuesday, listed agricultural products that Russia would no longer import from Turkey beginning on Jan. 1, and formalized a ban on charter flights to Turkey from Dec. 1.

RIYADH: Justice Minister Waleed Al-Samaani has welcomed the newly formed 34-nation anti-terrorism alliance and said it demonstrated the determination of Muslim countries to unite and fight terror in all its forms.
Speaking to the press, the minister said these terrorist groups have been allowed to grow and flourish because of support they received from various countries directly or indirectly.
These groups were targeting several Muslim countries, including Saudi Arabia, and by doing so were tarnishing Islam, which teaches that believers should behave moderately and respect their neighbors, he said.
Islam’s leading seat of learning, Al-Azhar, urged all Muslim countries to join the coalition to fight “terrorism” in the Islamic world.
The Cairo-based institution hailed the formation of the alliance as “historic”, and said it hoped it would defeat the “evils of terrorism”.
“This was an urgent demand of the people of Islamic countries who have suffered more than others from this black terrorism,” Al-Ahzar said in a statement.
“Al-Azhar calls on all Islamic countries to join this coalition to counter terrorism… that has committed horrible crimes indiscriminately.”
In Cairo, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Ahmed Abu Zaid, said that his country has supported the alliance because it has been formed by Arab and Muslim countries and is aimed at fighting terrorist groups.
In Istanbul, Turkey’s Prime Minister Ahmed Davutoglu said the unified stance taken by Muslim countries represents the strongest response to those who want to link terrorism with Islam, and that the country would provide whatever assistance is needed for the fight.
Military analyst, Ibrahim Al-Marai, told a local newspaper here that many countries have decided to join the alliance because of the success of the coalition forces in Yemen.
He said it was clear the alliance would operate on military and other fronts, be wary of violating the sovereignty of other countries, or be seen as an aggressor. The aim was to achieve global security and stability in partnership with others, he said.
Daesh, which has launched attacks on several Western targets in recent months, has issued warnings to Gulf states and have mounted a series of attacks on mosques and security forces in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, a report in an online publication said Tuesday.

A Dutch municipality’s meeting to discuss building a center for asylum-seekers has been abandoned amid rioting by opponents of the plan.
The meeting in Geldermalsen, 70 kilometers (45 miles) southeast of Amsterdam, was called to discuss the municipality’s support for establishing a center for 1,500 asylum-seekers, but was disrupted by rowdy protesters who massed outside.
Dutch media reported that riot police fired warning shots to disperse the crowd.
Local mayor Miranda de Vries tweeted that everybody in the meeting hall was safe, adding that she was “through and through sad.”
Thousands of migrants have entered the Netherlands this year as part of the massive influx arriving in Europe. Their arrival has caused tensions between hard-line opponents and those who are welcoming to the new arrivals.

US says Turkey must pull unauthorized forces from Iraq
WASHINGTON (AP) — The United States ramped up pressure Wednesday on Turkey to pull unauthorized troops from Iraq, aiming to defuse a dispute that has rankled relations between two countries central to the fight against the Islamic State group.
Vice President Joe Biden, in a phone call with Iraq’s leader, lent credence to Iraq’s claim that its neighbor violated its sovereignty by sending reinforcements to a training camp in northern Iraq. He told Iraq’s Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi that the deployment “occurred without the prior consent of the Iraqi government,” the White House said.
Iraq’s government has been incensed over Turkey’s move to send reinforcements to the camp in the Bashiqa region, near the IS-held city of Mosul. Abadi has demanded that Turkish troops immediately withdraw from Iraq’s territory. But Turkey has insisted the added troops were needed to protect its forces from attacks by IS — a concern that gained new relevance Wednesday when IS militants attacked the camp, killing three Iraqi Sunni fighters and wounding several Turkish trainers.
The flare-up between Iraq and Turkey has hardened into an unwelcome distraction for the U.S., which is working to persuade Turkey to step up its fight against IS while escalating its own military efforts against the extremist group. Biden and other U.S. officials have been working the phones for days, urging both Abadi and Turkey’s Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu to resolve the dispute.
Iraq’s Shiite-led government is under intense domestic pressure to resist the presence of foreign troops in the country, both from Sunni countries like Turkey and from the United States. Thousands of Shiite militiamen and supporters have joined rallies demanding Turkey’s full withdrawal, chanting, “No to occupation.” President Barack Obama’s recent decision to dispatch about 50 U.S. special forces to Iraq met a lukewarm reaction in Baghdad, even though the U.S. insisted it coordinated all its military actions with Iraq’s government.
The U.S. has been preparing to dispatch Apache attack helicopters and more military advisers to help Iraq wrest back the city of Ramadi from IS militants. But Abadi has resisted, arguing foreign forces aren’t needed to fight IS in Iraq. Defense Secretary Ash Carter, who met with Abadi on Wednesday in Baghdad, emerged from the meetings to say there was no agreement about accepting more U.S. help.
Since Baghdad lodged its protest, strong>Turkey has halted additional deployments and pulled out an unspecified number of the troops it had recently sent to bolster its ranks at the camp. Biden welcomed that initial withdrawal, but insisted it must continue. In a statement, the White House said Biden had called on Turkey to pull out “any military forces from Iraqi territory that have not been authorized by the Iraqi government.”
Turkey has stationed trainers since last year at the camp in Bashiqa, where Kurdish and Sunni forces are being trained to fight IS.
Even while urging NATO ally Turkey to tread lightly in Iraq, the U.S. has been pressing Turkey to step up its involvement in the U.S.-led coalition fighting IS. A key U.S. priority is for Turkey to finally close a stretch of its border with Syria that IS controls on the Syrian side, denying the extremist group a crucial corridor for funneling foreign fighters into Syria.
In a concerning sign for the U.S.-led coalition, the U.S. announced Wednesday it was pulling a dozen warplanes from a strategic air base in Turkey, one day after Carter visited the base. Turkey’s decision earlier in the year to allow the U.S. fighter jets to use Incirlik Air Base, not far from the border with Syria, had been touted as a major advancement that would allow the U.S. to move more quickly against IS targets. The Pentagon said the withdrawal wouldn’t decrease the U.S. military’s ability to strike targets in Syria.

A Texas sheriff expressed concerns that the federal government’s plans to bring large numbers of Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC) from the border to the campsite located southwest of Dallas will become a “small city.” The children are illegal immigrants mostly from Central America who have recently crossed the border during the latest surge.
Nearly 500 UACs are scheduled to arrive in the next few days at the Lakeview Camp and Retreat Center located near Waxahachie, Texas, a report on Texas Police News states. 400 workers were expected to arrive on Thursday and the children are expected to follow along shortly thereafter.
Ellis County Sheriff Johnny Brown said his department will be responsible for security for the children while they are in the camp. He also expressed concern about the security of the surrounding citizens. “At no time will these kids be left alone,” Sheriff Brown said during a county meeting. “They will have no transportation, should they attempt to escape, so threats to our surrounding community is very low.”
The sheriff urged citizens not to stage protests near the campsite because of the hazards of the roadway where protesters would have to stand. “I urge anyone who wants to march or have a protest not to do so, because there is no room out on FM 66 to accomplish that,” he advised. “You can’t go onto private property, and you can’t interfere with traffic either.”
“We are forced to accept what is happening,” Brown concluded, “but I see us mitigating any dangers you may fear. I feel strongly that you all are safe, and that all precautions are being discussed and addressed.”

Based on what they wrote, these administrators would welcome a professor who teaches that the earth is flat. One can only wonder if they would also welcome Darwin’s discoveries about evolution—or might they view evolution as Darwin’s own opinion to which he has every right unless it offends a person of color who might become violent, in which case, Darwin’s ideas may be taught as long as Creationism is given equal time.

During the last couple months, Iran and Saudi Arabia have been playing a political tug of war over Latin America. On November 10, 2015, Iran’s deputy foreign minister held a private meeting with ambassadors from nine Latin American countries to reaffirm the Islamic Republic’s desire to “enhance and deepen ties” with the region. This was followed by similar statements from Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei at the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Tehran later that month.
The same day, the Saudi Foreign Minister, Adel al-Jubeir, presided over a South American-Arab world summit in Riyadh. FM al-Jubeir, while Ambassador to the United States in 2011, had himself been the target of an Iranian-Latin American assassination plot.
The message of the Saudi summit was clear: An Arab rapprochement with South American countries will increase Iran’s isolation in the world.
Unfortunately for the House of Saud, in South America, they are more than thirty years behind their Persian rivals.
After the 1979 revolution, the leaders of the newfound Islamic Republic of Iran sought to change their country and the world. In 1982, Iran held an international conference of the Organization of Islamic Movements, bringing together over 380 clerics from some 70 countries around the world, including many from Latin America.[1] The purpose of this conference was to export their revolution abroad.
The next year, in 1983, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) carried out their first major international terrorist operation: the bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut. This act led to the withdrawal of multinational forces from Lebanon. That same year, Iran began funding and training Hezbollah in Lebanon. 1983 is also the year the Islamic Republic began its covert operations in Latin America.
On August 27,1983, the first Iranian operative to land in Latin America touched down in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Mohsen Rabbani was not just any operative, but one of Iran’s most highly trained and dedicated intelligence officers.[2] Latin American intelligence officials have since dubbed him “the terrorist professor.”

To hear it from the American mainstream media, only racists support Donald Trump’s uncompromising stance against Islamic terrorism. Everyone else – Republicans, Democrats, Europe, Canada, Russia, Charlie Brown, etc. – thinks we must embrace Islam more tightly than ever when our citizens are slaughtered.
But wouldn’t you know it, not everyone thinks that way.
In the northern Italian region of Lombardy, the governor has passed a new regulation forbidding Muslim women from wearing face-covering veils into public buildings and hospitals.
These laws are already in place, but Italian politicians in Lombardy say the regulation is needed because “thousands of Muslim women go about undisturbed with their faces completely covered by the burqa or the niqab, making it impossible to identify them.”
The new rule will go into effect on the first of the year.
Such regulation will probably do little to stop the kinds of attacks we saw in California and Paris, but it’s an acknowledgement that the status quo isn’t working. We have to stop pretending like Islam and Islamic terrorism are two entirely separate entities. If that means enacting laws that make Muslims uncomfortable, they have only themselves to blame. They’ve had years to chop away this radical branch of their religion, and they seem utterly unwilling to do it.
So in response to that failure, how can you blame us from taking matters into our own hands?

Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik, who opened fire on a San Bernardino holiday party earlier this month, were buried Tuesday in a quiet, graveside funeral guarded by FBI agents.
Many of those who attended mosque with the couple refused to attend, two mosque members said.
U.S.-born Farook, 28, and his Pakistani-born wife Malik, 29, killed 14 people and injured 21, in what U.S. officials have called a terrorist attack. They died later that day in a gun battle with police.
The funeral followed traditional Islamic rituals, said an attendee. At a Muslim cemetery hours away from San Bernardino, the bodies were cleansed according to Islamic rules, wrapped in white cloth and buried.
The funeral attendee and another person familiar with the situation, both of whom asked not to be identified for fear of retaliation, said it took a week to find a graveyard willing to accept the bodies.
They said the husband and wife were ultimately buried in a cemetery far from San Bernardino, after a closer facility refused to take the bodies because of fears the graves would be desecrated. Neither person would identify the cemetery where the couple was buried.
Muslims are usually buried within 24 hours of dying, but family members and community members had to wait for the bodies to be released by law enforcement officials and then for permission from a cemetery.
Neither source would say which cemetery refused to bury the couple, but a woman at the Islamic Cemetery & Masjid in Adelanto, Calif. – less than an hour from San Bernardino – confirmed the cemetery had refused to bury the bodies, in part out of a fear of backlash, but also for “other reasons”. She declined to give her name.
The family of Tamerlan Tsarnaev, one of the two men accused of carrying out the Boston Marathon bombing attack in 2013, faced similar difficulty finding a place to bury his body after the attack. Graveyards in Massachusetts refused to accept the body, and the family ultimately buried him in an unmarked grave in Virginia.
About 10 people went to the funeral, the attendee said, including members of Farook’s family and people who used to pray with him at mosques in San Bernardino County.
But most Muslims in the community refused to participate in the burial or perform the funeral prayer, called Salat Al-Janazah, according to the source who did not attend the funeral.
“I don’t forgive him myself,” said the mosque-goer who did not attend the funeral. Still, he added, “I pray mercy for him, and we Muslims know God is merciful. But he’s also just.”
Farook and Malik left behind a 6-month-old daughter, who has been in state custody since the Dec. 2 massacre. Farook’s sister and brother-in-law, Saira and Farhan Khan, have said they hope to adopt their niece.
An attorney for family members did not immediately return a call seeking comment for this story.

The parents of James Foley, the journalist beheaded by Islamic State in 2014, have reacted with dismay after France’s far-right leader Marine Le Pen tweeted an image of his decapitated body.
Le Pen posted three gruesome images of Isis killings on the social media site on Wednesday in response to an accusation by a journalist that her Front National party bore similarities with the extremist group.
“Daesh is THIS!” Le Pen said in angry tweets showing the killings, using the Arabic acronym for the group. But her effort to make a distinction between her anti-immigration party and Isis appears to have backfired.
The prosecutor’s office in the western Paris suburb of Nanterre said had launched an investigation into “the dissemination of violent images” over the tweets.
Foley’s parents said they were “deeply disturbed”.
John and Diane Foley said in a statement: “Our family was informed this morning that Marine Le Pen, a French politician, tweeted a shamefully uncensored picture of our son.”
“We are deeply disturbed by the unsolicited use of Jim for Le Pen’s political gain and hope that the picture of our son, along with the two other graphic photographs, are taken down immediately,” they said.
Foley, a freelance journalist, was captured in Syria in 2012 and beheaded in August 2014.
Mainstream media largely refrained from showing any potentially disturbing or gruesome photos from the incident.
Le Pen tweeted the photos after Jean-Jacques Bourdin, known for his brash style, said on BFM TV that her party Front National (FN) and Isis both focus on identity, so share a “community of spirit.”
The incident comes three days after Le Pen’s FN suffered a stinging defeat in critical regional elections on Sunday, failing to take any regions, a personal humiliation for Le Pen who ran in the north. However, she came out victorious in a legal battle on Tuesday when a Lyon court acquitted her of inciting hatred for denouncing prayers in the streets by Muslims.
Interior minister Bernard Cazeneuve, asked about the tweets in parliament, told MPs he has taken the case to a section of the judicial police that deals with illicit content on the internet so it can look into the matter “as it does each time these photos are diffused”.
“They are propaganda photos of Daesh,” Cazeneuve said. He called them “abject, an abomination and a veritable insult to all victims of terrorism.”
Bourdin occasionally stirs national controversy on his morning show on RMC radio and BFM TV.
On Wednesday, discussing extremism with a noted Middle East expert, he referred to “links … not direct links between the National Front and Daesh, but this isolation in identity that in the end is a community of spirit.”
In response, Le Pen wrote the tweets.

French far-right leader Marine Le Pen was under investigation Wednesday after tweeting graphic images of Islamic State atrocities, among them a photo of the decapitated body of US reporter James Foley.
The prosecutor’s office in the western Paris suburb of Nanterre told AFP it had launched an investigation into “the dissemination of violent images” over the National Front (FN) leader’s series of shock tweets.
The images were tweeted with the caption “This is Daesh” (an Arabic acronym for the Islamic State group) and showed Foley’s bloodied body with his decapitated head on his torso, a man on fire in a cage, and a victim being driven over by a tank.
Foley’s bereaved parents John and Diane said they wanted the images removed immediately, accusing Le Pen in a statement of using the “shamefully uncensored” image to her own political ends.
“We are deeply disturbed by the unsolicited use of Jim for Le Pen’s political gain and hope that the picture of our son, along with the two other graphic photographs, are taken down immediately,” they said.

Le Pen, who has over 830,000 Twitter followers, addressed the tweets to BFM TV journalist Jean-Jacques Bourdin, whom she accused of likening her party to the jihadist group.

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls described the photos as “monstrous”.
“Madame Le Pen: inflaming public debate, political and moral failing, non-respect for victims,” he wrote on his Twitter account.
Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve alerted the police to look into the tweets “as they do every time these photos are published”.
The photos are “Daesh propaganda and are a disgrace, an abomination and an absolute insult to all victims of… Daesh,” said Cazeneuve.
Le Pen was reacting to comments by Bourdin, whom she accused of drawing parallels between her party and the IS jihadist group in an “unacceptable bungle”.
Bourdin, during his morning show known for combative one-on-one interviews, suggested there were “links” between FN and IS.
In later remarks Bourdin dismissed Le Pen’s reaction as “hysterical”.
“At no point did I say the FN was like Daesh,” he insisted.
FN lawmaker Gilbert Collard also tweeted a picture of an IS victim, albeit one that was far less graphic than those posted by Le Pen.
“We are only showing the hate-filled ignominy of those who (compare) us with killers,” Collard, who was also placed under investigation, said by way of explanation.
Le Pen’s FN scored a record number of votes in regional elections on Sunday, boosted by concerns over the migrant crisis and terrorism, though the party failed to win control of any regions.
In the wake of the November 13 attacks in Paris that left 130 people dead, Le Pen warned that if IS was not conquered “Islamist totalitarianism will take power in our country”.

The group says EU pressure on Turkey to stem migration to Europe has resulted in the “forcible transportation” of hundreds of migrants.
Pressuring them to return was in breach of international law, the Amnesty report said.
Turkey “categorically denied” any Syrian migrant had been forced home.
In the report, released on Wednesday, Amnesty blames the EU’s “recklessness” and says it should suspend “Action Plan” – the EU-Turkey migration deal signed in November – until human rights obligations are met.
It also calls on richer countries to take in more migrants.

The clumsily-named “Evidence-gathering and Arrest Unit Plus” (BFE+) will support the existing elite anti-terror group GSG 9 in the event of a terrorist attack.
Its 50 officers – who will be boosted to 250 next year – will join in hostage rescues and other “tough situations”, Federal Police chief Dieter Romann said.
Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere told journalists at BFE+’s base near Berlin that the unit was the first lesson to be drawn from the devastating attacks that killed 130 people and injured dozens more in the French capital on November 13th.

Payouts for retired servicemen and women will be fixed at today’s levels until 2017, leaving 140,000 former service personnel or their partners up to £270 out of pocket.
The cap is in place as the War Pension Scheme is deemed a compensation payment – meaning it falls outside the Government’s “triple lock” guarantee that will see state pensions rise by 2.9 per cent next year.
Ukip’s defence spokesman, Mike Hookem – himself a former a soldier – said David Cameron was “leaving veterans and war widows out in the cold” and added: “This pensions freeze is utterly two faced when you consider how only a few weeks ago, ministers were pushing to send our brave forces into action once again.”

The committee said in an official statement issued on Wednesday that the offices, located in Cairo and Suez governorates, have been given to the ministry of finance to implement a court ruling.
The governmental committee has also announced that they have seized a number of hospitals in Beni Suef and five other medical laboratories and pharmacies in the same governorate.
Chairman of the committee Mohamed Abouel Fotouh said that all of the medical outlets are currently operating under the supervision of the health ministry.
Since March, the panel has seized the funds of 702 Brotherhood leaders in addition to transferring the management of 1,050 NGOs and some 147 schools believed to be affiliated with the group into a government trusteeship.
The Brotherhood was banned by a court ruling in September of last year, two months after the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi.
Three legal challenges have been filed against the ruling, but courts have not issued any final decisions.
The group was deemed a terrorist organisation by Egyptian authorities in December 2013, a designation that was later upheld by a Cairo court.”
