A Russian military ship tracked by U.S. intelligence assets over the past two months as it sailed the western Atlantic arrived at a Caribbean port this week.
The research ship Yantar on Sunday sailed into the port of Willemstad, capital of the Caribbean island of Curacao, after transiting international waters off the southeastern United States. Maritime tracking data showed that it was near Aruba several days ago.
The ship was spotted by naval vessel watchers as it entered the port, where it is expected to take on supplies.
Pentagon officials have said the vessel was tracked from the north Atlantic on Aug. 24 as it sailed south through international waters along the U.S. east coast.

In Kiev’s imposing Soviet-era government buildings, Ukraine’s political leadership told NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg that their armed forces were no match for Russia, and needed help.
“Our heroes, our warriors belong to an army that was neglected for decades…they face aggression and need defensive weaponry,” the speaker of the parliament, Volodymyr Groysman, told Stoltenberg making his first visit to Ukraine as head of NATO, 18 months after Russia seized Ukraine’s Crimean peninsula.
Prime Minister Arseny Yatseniuk, sitting alongside Stoltenberg at a national security council meeting, was equally blunt in depicting a threat from Russia which, however, denies it has provided weapons to the rebels in the east.

Marine Le Pen, the leader of France’s far-right National Front, has been ordered to stand trial in October on charges of inciting racial hatred after comparing Muslim street prayers to the Nazi occupation, legal sources said Tuesday.
Le Pen made the comparison in December 2010 while campaigning for the presidency of her party, and a judicial enquiry was opened into the matter in 2012.
In the speech she denounced the holding of Muslim prayers in the streets of France – where a dearth of mosques had forced many to pray outside – saying: “For those who like to talk about World War II, to talk about occupation, we could talk about, for once, the occupation of our territory.”
“It is an occupation of part of the territory, suburbs where religious law is applied. Sure, there are no armoured vehicles, no soldiers, but it is an occupation nonetheless and it weighs on residents.”
The move to put her on trial comes after the the European Parliament has stripped National Front leader of her immunity as a lawmaker In July 2013.
That decision left her open to face prosecution in France.
The populist far-right leader, who was first elected to the European Parliament in 2004, has said that the move by the EU was an attempt to “intimidate” her because she was “a dissident” and she invoked her right to freedom of expression.
“I will now defend myself in court and I am absolutely convinced that it will rule in my favour and defend my right to tell the French the truth about the situation,” she said at the time.
Le Pen believes her views are shared by “a majority of French people” and that the lawmakers’ vote “will bring to the fore the issue of daily violations against secularism in France”.
Tuesday’s announcement will be a blow to the party just as it was hoping to build up momentum ahead of the regional elections in December and the presidential election in 2017, in which Le Pen is expected to perform strongly.
Some political analysts doubt however that putting Marine Le Pen on trial is the right move.
“She will no doubt try to turn this to her advantage and make herself out to be the victim of some kind of plot between the mainstream parties, who have had her right to free speech taken away from her,” French far-right specialist Jean-yves Camus told The Local.
“If they really wanted to deal with Marine Le Pen it would have been much wiser for the mainstream political parties to just concentrate on themselves and on what they say. For example, the more the centre-right party talks about Islam the more they give legitimacy to the National Front.”
But anti-racism campaigners say whether or not Le Pen’s enjoy’s the publicity, the right thing to do is put up before a judge.
“What Marine Le Pen said was disgraceful. When we take people to court as an organization we always ask ourselves: ‘Is this person going to get publicity out of it and will they benefit?’, but you cannot decide on these grounds,” Philippe Schmidt from the International League against Racism and anti-Semitism (LICRA) told The Local.
“If the person simply has to be prosecuted for what they’ve said, then that’s the most important factor to consider, especially if it’s the state that is prosecuting. The most important thing to consider is not whether she will be able to claim she is a victim but simply whether what she said was illegal.”

BARCELONA (Reuters) – The head of Catalonia’s regional government says a unilateral split from Spain is unstoppable unless the central government agrees to call a binding referendum on independence.
Artur Mas threw down the gauntlet to Madrid less than a week before a local election which Catalan separatists have billed as a proxy vote on secession.
Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has repeatedly ruled out a breakaway by the wealthy northeastern region and opposed any attempt to hold a referendum.
Mas did not expect matters to change after a national election due in December as not only the ruling People’s Party (PP) but also the opposition Socialists and the smaller Ciudadanos party oppose such a possibility.
“I am very skeptical that a new Spanish government could offer a deal to Catalonia on holding a referendum,” Mas said in an interview with Reuters at the 16th Century Palau de la Generalitat regional headquarters.
The west doesn’t need separatist movements right now, the Islamic conquest will take advantage of these movements to weaken and already weak foe.

Not quite making it into the category of suicide bomber, a Muslim terrorist was killed when the grenade he was about the throw blew up on him.
On Monday evening, around 11:30 PM, Muslims set up an ambush on the road connecting Negohot and Adorayim in the southern Mount Hebron area, according to a Tazpit report.
The Muslims piled up rocks onto the road hoping an Israeli driver would crash into them, at which point they would apparently attack the driver directly.
An Israeli driver from Negohot saw the pile of rocks just in time, and managed to swerve around them. He then called in the army.
I don’t know how to make a rational comment without telling them how to use grenades.

Many people argue that liberals, socialists and progressives do not understand basic economics. I am not totally convinced about that.
Take the law of demand, for example, one of the fundamental principles of economics. It holds that the lower the cost of something the more people will take or do of it. Conversely, the higher the cost the less people will take or do something. By their actions, liberals fully understand the law of demand. Let’s look at some proof.
The Seattle City Council voted unanimously to establish a tax on gun and ammunition sales. Hillary Clinton has called for a 25 percent tax on gun sales. In Chicago, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle proposed “violence taxes” on bullets to discourage criminals from buying guns. Let’s ignore the merit of these measures. They do show that gun grabbers acknowledge the law of demand. They want fewer gun sales and thus propose raising the cost of guns.

RUSSIA – Chechen lawmaker proposes legal immunity for holy books
After a court in Russia’s Far East found allegedly extremist statements in a Muslim religious book, an MP from Chechnya is drafting a bill that would prevent courts from recognizing any holy book of any religion as extremist material.
“I have a principle position on this subject: it is necessary to completely exclude the possibility of court processes over holy scriptures, once and for all. We all know that there are values that are beyond time, that have existed before us and will live after we are gone. Holy scriptures of world religions followed by billions of people also fall into the category of such values,” State Duma MP Shamsail Saraliyev (United Russia) told Izvestia daily.
“These texts have many centuries of history and recognizing them as extremist is completely absurd,” he added.
He referred to the scandal that erupted in early September after a court in the Far Eastern region of Sakhalin fulfilled local prosecutors’ request to recognize as extremist the Koranic commentary ‘Prayer to God’. The judge pointed out that the quotes from Koran stating the supremacy of Allah and banning the worship of any other deities could be viewed as extremist.
The court ruling was immediately met with sharp criticism from Muslim clergy and also from some representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church. The head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, known for his strong Muslim faith, publicly protested against the decision and also filed in a legal appeal against it.
The wide response prompted a dedicated session of the State Duma Committee for Religious Communities and Public Organizations that took place on September 15. During this meeting some lawmakers and experts suggested that holy texts of various religions should be exempt from the Law on Extremism and that all legal controversies concerning the religious sphere should only be resolved by the Supreme Court.
In addition, Saraliyev told reporters that all participants of the committee session, including representatives of major religions, denounced the ruling of the Sakhalin court and “unanimously decided that such actions on the part of the Russian court system were incorrect and lacked perspective as they evidently sought to promote hatred towards Islam, instigate ethnic strife and undermine stability in the Russian state.”
A key Russian Muslim cleric – first deputy head of the Council of Muftis Rushan Abbasov said Saraliyev’s bill was in line with the position of all Russian followers of Islam who had earlier unanimously called to introduce complete legal immunity for all holy books. Abbasov added that in his view the Sakhalin court had taken the Koran quotes out of context and by using this method anyone could find extremism in any holy text.
Representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church have also backed the draft. The head of the Holy Synod’s department for relations between the Church and the Community, Vsevolod Chaplin, said in a radio interview that the “initiative was worthy of discussion” and suggested that the law introduces a minimum age of 200 or 300 years after which holy texts should be considered immune from probes on extremism.

This report comes just days after a senior U.S. military commander told Congress that only 4 to 5 U.S.-trained Syrian fighters are effectively engaged against ISIS as a result of a $500 million program pushed through by GOP congressional leadership a year ago. Since the [nuclear] deal was signed, Iran has significantly increased its financial support for two of the largest terror groups in the region that have become political players, Hamas and Hezbollah. In the years before the deal was signed, the crippling sanctions limited this support, which had significantly diminished along with Iran’s economy. But Tehran’s belief that tens, or hundreds, of billions of dollars will flow into the country in the coming years as a result of sanctions relief has led to a decision to boost the cash flow to these terror organizations.
This support, for example, has enabled Hezbollah to obtain highly developed new armaments, including advanced technologies that many militaries around the world would envy. Al-Rai, a Kuwaiti newspaper, reported Saturday that Hezbollah has received all the advanced weaponry that Syria has obtained from the Russians. The report cited a security source involved in the fighting in Zabadani, on the Syria-Lebanon border, where Hezbollah is fighting the al-Nusra Front, the Islamic State, and other groups. It is evidently the growing Iranian financial support that is enabling the Lebanese Shiite militia to purchase advanced weapons, including ones that were hitherto outside of its reach.

Embassy reveals that it receives 300 emails and calls per day – 70 per cent in favour of decision to fence off Hungary’s borders
Britons have been jamming the switchboard of Hungary’s embassy to London with messages of support for Budapest’s controversial stance on the migrant crisis, the mission’s staff disclosed on Tuesday.
In a briefing designed to defend Hungary’s decision to fence off its borders to migrants trying to reach Europe, the country’s diplomats disclosed that the embassy in Belgravia was now receiving up to 300 phone calls, emails and letters every day on the matter.
While around 30 per cent were comments such as “you are heartless scum”, the rest described Hungary’s actions as “God’s gift to Europe”, officials claimed.
The comments, which offer a snapshot of British attitudes on the migrant question, were revealed by the embassy in the wake of strong criticisms levelled at Hungary over the hardline approach of Viktor Orban, the country’s Right-wing prime minister.
Mr Orban has said that the influx of mainly Muslim migrants from the likes of Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan could end up running into the millions, threatening Europe’s identity as a Christian nation.
Hungarian police, meanwhile, have been castigated for using tear gas and water cannon on migrants as they have tried to stop them crossing into Hungarian territory, large parts of which are now guarded by a hastily-built border fence.

UK – The first of 20,000 Syrian refugees to be taken in by the UK have arrived in the country, the Home Office has said.
The government has not provided details of the exact number or where in the UK they are being resettled.
The refugees will receive housing, access to medical care and education, and they can work from day one, under the UK’s resettlement scheme.
Prime Minister David Cameron has said they will come from refugee camps in countries neighbouring Syria.
He has said the UK would take the most vulnerable, including disabled children, women who had been raped and men who had been tortured.
Those being resettled are being selected by the UN on the basis of need.
Huge influx
Under the government’s Vulnerable Persons Resettlement scheme, the refugees will be granted five years’ humanitarian protection which includes access to public funds, the labour market and the possibility of family reunion, if a person was split up from their partner or child when leaving their country.
After those five years they can apply to settle in the UK.
Mr Cameron said the scheme would be funded for the first 12 months by the government.
The UK has agreed to accept 20,000 Syrians, displaced by the country’s war, by 2020.
Britain has been under pressure to take in more people as Europe struggles to deal with a huge influx of refugees – most fleeing conflict in Syria but large numbers also fleeing violence and poverty in Afghanistan, Eritrea and Kosovo.
