The Austrian government has threatened to close a controversial Saudi-sponsored religious dialogue center because of the latter’s failure to condemn the flogging of a Saudi human rights activist and blogger.

Saudi Arabia has responded to the threat by issuing a counter-threat to move the permanent headquarters of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries [OPEC] out of the Austrian capital of Vienna.

Thank you M., Draculea, Wrath of Khan and all. More to come.

  1. So far, when it comes to voting, the French have always opted for the “voting with the heart” option.

France by-election: Narrow win for Hollande’s party (BBC, Feb 9, 2015)

“The ruling French Socialist party has narrowly beat the far-right National Front at a by-election seen as a test for President Francois Hollande.

The poll was billed as a reflection of the country’s political climate after last month’s terror attacks in Paris.

Mr Hollande’s approval ratings improved significantly as a result of his handling of the crisis.

However, the Socialist candidate at the by-election in Doubs, eastern France, won by less than three points.

Frederic Barbier, who won 51.4% of the vote, said his victory over Sophie Montel had been helped in part by the “perfect” response of France’s leaders to the terror attacks.

However. the narrow margin of his triumph led Ms Montel to say the National Front was the election’s “big winner”….”

Clare Lopez, member of the Citizens’ Commission on Benghazi, on The Steve Malzberg Show Feb 2:

‘Lopez said the Obama administration’s goal was clear from 2009 — to change U.S. policy toward Islam and the Islamic world.

“As the Citizens’ Commission on Benghazi interim report of April 2013 pointed out, our administration has switched sides. That’s not widely understood,” she said.

“Our administration has switched sides in the global jihad wars in order to support the rise to power of Islamic jihadis, Sunnis in North Africa, Iran, and the Shiites in the Persian Gulf region.”’

  3. @5 and 6, It is interesting that the two nations that were the major villians in WWII are taking the forefront in the fight against Islam, granted it is the ordinary people in Germany and not the German government but still……
