1. Belgium: Shiite mosque bombed by Sunni

A Moroccan man admitted setting fire to a Shiite mosque in Brussels to protest the crackdown on fellow Sunnis in Syria when he went on trial Thursday for the attack that killed the imam.

But Rachid El-Boukhari, 35, denied intending to kill the preacher at the main Shiite mosque in the Belgian capital when he addressed the court here, according to news reports.

Boukhari, who describes himself as Sunni, risks a life sentence if found guilty of carrying out the attack on the Rida mosque just before evening prayers on March 12, 2012.

He is accused of “a terrorist offence” as well as “arson causing death” under the “aggravating circumstances” that the attack was “based on religion.”

“Yes, I knew that there was at least one or two people in the mosque when I set it on fire,” the defendant told the Brussels court, according to the Belga news agency.

(Reuters) – Gunmen exploded bombs and opened fire on worshippers gathered at the central mosque of north Nigeria’s biggest city, Kano, for Friday prayers, witnesses said, in an attack that bore the hallmarks of the Islamist militant group Boko Haram.

“These people have bombed the mosque. I am face to face with people screaming,” said Chijjani Usman, a local reporter who had gone to the mosque in the old city for prayers himself.

The mosque is adjacent to the palace of the emir of Kano, the second highest Islamic authority in the country, although the emir himself, former central bank governor Lamido Sanusi, was not present at the time.

(Interesting that Canada has an overall higher percentage of support for the Islamic State than Isreal, where Israel has a much higher percentage of Muslims. Clearly the Muslims in Israel have a great deal more experience with something akin to what the Islamic State is like)

  3. If she did this to create publicity she choose a way that most people would be afraid to take, she is ticking off all of the politically correct and the Moslems.

    “At least two demonstrators have died in clashes between Islamist protestors and police in the Egyptian capital Cairo.

    The protests were called by an ultra-conservative Salafi group, which oppose the army’s overthrow of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi in 2013.

    They asked protestors to defend what they call Egypt’s “Islamic identity”.

    There was a heavy security presence on the streets on Friday and police arrested dozens of Islamists ahead of the rallies.

    A friend of one of the dead told AFP that police had fired randomly on protestors.

    But the interior ministry said police had come under fire, and had arrested a protestor carrying a shotgun.

    In a separate development, gunmen in Cairo shot dead an Egyptian brigadier general and wounded two soldiers, the military said.

    ““Foreigners” are unable to solve the problems of the Middle East because Western states “don’t like us” and are more interested in just following the cash, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an said on Nov. 27.

    “Only we can solve our problems. I speak openly; foreigners love oil, gold, diamonds, and the cheap labor force of the Islamic world. They like the conflicts, fights and quarrels of the Middle East. Believe me, they don’t like us,” said Erdo?an during an address to the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC) in Istanbul.

    “They look like friends, but they want us dead, they like seeing our children die. How long will we stand that fact?” he added.

    Erdo?an said Middle Eastern countries could solve their problems by themselves without any help from the West.

    “The only condition to overcome the crisis in the Islamic world is unity, solidarity and alliance. Believe me, we can resolve every problem as long as we are united. Islamic countries, which have developed economically recently, have been experiencing the biggest humanitarian and political crisis in their history simultaneously,” the Turkish president said.

    “If we act together, we will end the loneliness of Palestine which has continued for nearly one century … It is possible to end the bloodshed in Iraq and killing of Syrian children if we unite,” he said.

    He also savaged critics of his remarks that Muslim explorers traveled to the Americas before Columbus as suffering from an “ego complex,” reaffirming his belief their purported feat was an historical fact….”
