3. School district scraps ALL religious holidays under pressure from Muslims

In a decision prompted by complaints from Muslim families, the board of education in Maryland’s largest school district on Tuesday voted to remove all Christian and Jewish holidays references from the school district calendar.
According to the Washington Times, the parents of Muslim children in the Montgomery County School District argued that religous holidays were not being observed equall, because school was not closed in observance of Muslim holidays but was closed for Christian or Jewish holidays.
According to the Times, Muslim community leaders complained that the Eid al-Adha holiday was not getting equal recognition on next year’s school calendar with the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, both of which will fall on Sept. 23, 2015.

“New reports on Pakistan suggest the country still has a long way to go in tackling malnutrition, polio, lack of education, and terrorism. Guest columnist Ahmed Rashid says a tepid government response has only exacerbated such problems.
The government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is facing a political and economic crisis and a spate of recent reports has highlighted the parlous state of the country’s social services. The government appears oblivious to chronic deficiencies in health, education and governance. If it addresses these issues, it is only to put out statements of denial about cause and effect and to clamp down on critics in the media. A recent conference in Islamabad organised by the UN’s World Food Program pointed out that 44% of Pakistan’s population is facing malnutrition, 15% of whom suffer from acute malnutrition. As a result, some 11 million children under five will suffer from stunted growth.
Other UN surveys that have been carried out and come to even more dire conclusions have so far not been published. According to some Western diplomats, this is because the government objects to them. There is little recognition of the problem by Islamabad. Much of the cause for severe malnutrition is not the shortage of food, but its high cost which people can no longer afford. Food riots have already occurred in Sindh and Balochistan provinces, and famine was declared last year in the Tharpaker desert area of Sindh, leading to an outpouring of support from civil society but few long-term plans for the region by the government. Such protests could spread to grain-rich Punjab province.
The water crisis across Pakistan is become more acute by the day, with vast areas of Sindh and Balochistan expected to be declared waterless in the next decade, while there is no management of excess water and floods during the monsoon season. The lack of water in Punjab’s canal system built by the British Raj is already driving down food production in Punjab.
Meanwhile Pakistan’s campaign to prevent the spread of polio that afflicts young children has been termed ”a disaster” by the Global Independent Monitoring Board for the eradication of polio. In its latest report issued from Geneva on October 26, the Board says: “Pakistan’s polio programme is a disaster. it continues to flounder hopelessly, as its virus flourishes…. Pakistan is now the major stumbling block to global polio eradication.” It calls the government’s Emergency Operations Centre “a masterpiece of obscurity”. “It’s frustrating, eradicating polio is not rocket science,” Elias Durry of the World Health Organisation says. Pakistan has had 217 polio cases this year, accounting for 85% of all instances around the world and the highest incidence in 14 years. Moreover, 64 vaccinators have been killed by the Pakistani Taliban who oppose the campaign, also a sign of inadequate protection by security forces. Nurses and support staff who carry out this dangerous work have not been paid for two months. Pakistan now faces the disgrace of having exported the virus to China, Syria, Egypt and Israel according to WHO, through carriers who went to these destinations.
WHO fears that if Pakistan refuses to act, more money will be spent on blockading Pakistan from other countries to prevent the spread of the virus than actually combating it. However for more than a year the government has refused to acknowledge the scale of the disaster and kept facts hidden from parliament and the media. The Foreign Office has issued disturbing and defensive statements accusing the international community of exaggerating the threat. Only after the Board’s recent report has Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif reacted. While addressing the chief ministers of the four provinces on 4 November, he said he would give the Committee on Polio Eradication six months to make Pakistan polio-free. However even that statement was withdrawn a day later.
Meanwhile 25 million children still do not go to school – the largest number of any country in the world. A new report by Alif Ailaan, a leading education campaign organisation states that only one in four children who do enrol in school make it to grade 10. Half the children drop out by the fifth grade while conditions in schools are deplorable as many lack running water, toilets or even classrooms. Despite large-scale spending on schools by the Punjab government, not much has improved over the past few years.
There has been an alarming rise in the level of violence against all minorities in Pakistan, highlighted on 4 November by the mob killing of a Christian couple and the burning of their bodies on account of alleged blasphemous statements they made, when a more prosaic version of events emerged: they owed their employer money and he was exacting revenge.
Many of the social campaigns such as anti-polio and population control are unsuccessful because they are threatened by terrorists. Yet how can any campaign be mounted against extremism when there appears to be no strategic policy of zero tolerance for terrorism or a central authority. The National Internal Security Policy, announced as a clearing house and central command for the anti-terrorist campaign, has not been heard from since it was announced in February. The lack of a clear political strategy by the government has led to an ever greater policy and implementation failure on social issues.

Diversity is about the non-ownership of self. As Communism is about non ownership of property and Islam is about non ownership of your soul.
The deficit of perception makes you a slave to anyone who can comfort you in the justification as to why you are a slave.

The American hostage Abdul Rahman Kassig beheaded –
REUTERS – Islamic State militants said in a video on Sunday they had beheaded U.S. hostage Peter Kassig and warned the United States they would kill other U.S. citizens “on your streets”.
The announcement of Kassig’s death, in what would be the fifth such killing of a Western captive by the group, formed part of a 15-minute video posted online in which Islamic State showed the beheadings of at least 14 men it said were pilots and officers loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
In Washington, President Barack Obama’s National Security Council (NSC) said the U.S. government was working to confirm the authenticity of the claim.
“If confirmed, we are appalled by the brutal murder of an innocent American aid worker and we express our deepest condolences to his family and friends,” NSC spokeswoman Bernadette Meehan said in a statement.
Other Western leaders and officials also condemned the killing.
The video did not show Kassig’s beheading but showed a masked man standing with a decapitated head covered in blood lying at his feet. Speaking in English in a British accent, the man says: “This is Peter Edward Kassig, a U.S. citizen.”
Reuters could not immediately verify the authenticity of the footage, which appeared on a jihadist website and on Twitter feeds used by Islamic State.

In a statement, Kassig’s parents Ed and Paula Kassig said they were aware of news reports “about our treasured son” and were awaiting confirmation from the government as to their authenticity. They asked that in the meantime their privacy be respected.
The man in the video spoke with the same southern British accent as the killer of previous hostages, dubbed “Jihadi John” by British media. He was believed to have been wounded in an air attack on a meeting of IS leaders in an Iraqi town close to the Syrian border earlier this month, some media reports have said.
“To Obama, the dog of Rome, today we are slaughtering the soldiers of Bashar and tomorrow we will be slaughtering your soldiers,” a masked militant says, predicting Washington would send more troops to the region to fight Islamic State.
“And with Allah’s permission … the Islamic State will soon … begin to slaughter your people in your streets.”
The format of the video was different from previous such announcements, not only because it showed other beheadings but also because these were shown in graphic detail. The purported location was also disclosed, the northern Syrian town of Dabeq.
Kassig, a 26-year-old from Indiana, is also known as Abdul-Rahman, a name he took after his conversion to Islam while in captivity. His parents have said through a spokesperson their son was taken captive on his way to the eastern Syrian city of Deir al-Zor on Oct. 1, 2013.
A former soldier, Kassig was doing humanitarian work through Special Emergency Response and Assistance, an organization he founded in 2012 to help refugees from Syria, the family has said.
Islamic State has previously killed U.S. journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff and British aid workers David Haines and Alan Henning.
The masked militant, who appeared to be the leader of a beheading squad, said Kassig was buried in Dabeq, near the Turkish border.
“Here we are burying the first American crusader in Dabeq. Eagerly waiting for the remainder of your armies to arrive,” he says.
British Prime Minister David Cameron said he was horrified by the “cold-blooded murder”. Britain’s Foreign Office said it was analyzing the video.
The beheadings of the Syrian personnel were filmed in death squad style, with militants standing behind a kneeling man in a dark blue overall. In slow motion shots, each of the militants is shown drawing a knife from a box on the side of the road.

IRAN TEHRAN – Pop idol’s funeral draws biggest crowds in Iran since 2009 unrest
The funeral of Iranian pop idol Morteza Pashaie on Sunday drew the biggest crowds seen in Iran since mass protests in 2009 rocked the Islamic Republic.
Pashaie, who died on Friday of pancreatic cancer at the age of 30, was a singer-composer who won a big following that crossed Iran’s political and social divides. His music appealed both to Westernised urbanites and the traditionally devout.
Last week, before he died, large crowds of fans poured into the streets of Tehran, holding candle-lit vigils, praying and humming his hit song “One-way Street”, an ode on unrequited love.
His funeral in Tehran on Sunday brought out thousands of Iranians, both supporters of the Islamic government and secular-minded critics, in a rare moment of solidarity in a polarised country.
State television showed Pashaie’s coffin, bedecked in flowers and the Iranian flag, moving toward Behesht-e Zahra cemetery in south Tehran. Mourners in black sobbed, sang and waved his picture on his latest album cover.
The crowd grew ever bigger as young fans alerted each other by text, disrupting commuter traffic. Many filmed and broadcast through social media in defiance of security forces present in force.
“It was so overcrowded that some planned services had to be cancelled. Repeated pleas for cooperation from Pashaie’s father had no effect,” said the official IRNA news agency.
Fearing a repeat of mass demonstrations following ex-president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s disputed 2009 re-election, Iranian security forces are vigilant against any planned or impromptu public congregations.
In a country where Western-inspired entertainment is frowned upon as “un-Islamic”, establishment media tried to give a spiritual spin to Pashaie and his work, showing him in acts of prayer or during pilgrimage.
Music has had a difficult time in Iran since the 1979 Islamic revolution. The clergy have allowed traditional Iranian music to be produced and aired, but many young musicians with taste for such popular genres as rock, rap and hip-hop have been forced to go underground.

The Islamic State (Isis) has recruited an army hundreds of thousands strong, far larger than previous estimates by the CIA, according to a senior Kurdish leader. He said the ability of Isis to attack on many widely separated fronts in Iraq and Syria at the same time shows that the number of militant fighters is at least 200,000, seven or eight times bigger than foreign in intelligence estimates of up to 31,500 men.
Fuad Hussein, the chief of staff of the Kurdish President Massoud Barzani said in an exclusive interview with The Independent on Sunday that “I am talking about hundreds of thousands of fighters because they are able to mobilise ARAB YOUNG MEN in the territory they have taken.”
He estimates that Isis rules a third of Iraq and a third of Syria with a population of between 10 and 12 million living in an area of 250,000 square kilometres, the same size as Great Britain. This gives the jihadis a large pool of potential recruits.
Proof that Isis has created a large field army at great speed is that it has been launching attacks against the Kurds in northern Iraq and the Iraqi army close to Baghdad at the same time as it is fighting in Syria

ISIS smuggles 1 million tons of wheat and barley to Syria
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) On Sunday, the Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture said that, the ISIS group has smuggled more than 1,000,000 tons of wheat and barley from al-Mosul to the areas it controls in Syria.
Iraqi Minister of Agriculture Hasan al-Zabidan stated today for IraqiNews that, “The ministry has received information indicates that the gangs of ISIS have smuggled more than 1,000,000 tons of wheat and barley from Nineveh to al-Raqqa and Deir al-Zour cities in Syria.”
Al-Zabidan added, “ISIS considers al-Raqqa and Deir al-Zour cities in Syria safe zones and attempts to maintain that after the Iraqi Army advances towards al-Mosul city.”
