Turkey: Police PEPPER SPRAY women trying to enter mosque development

If memory serves, this mosque complex is being built on a park which was symbolic of secular liberal democracy for Turkey. Erdogan’s decision to build a mosque at that spot was a very loud signal to Turks of the direction he is taking Turkey. This decision, if I recall correctly, was announced during last years riots against his government by basically secularists. I will try and find links to support these assertions, again, if my remembrance of these things are accurate, later tonight.

Egyptian Militants Pledge Allegiance to IS Group (abcnews, Nov 10, 2014)
http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/egyptian-militants-pledge-allegiance-group-26800185
“Ansar Beit al-Maqdis, a jihadi organization based in the Sinai Peninsula that has carried out a series of attacks targeting Egyptian security forces, has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group.
The announcement reflects the growing regional appeal of the Islamic State, an al-Qaida breakaway group that has carved out a self-styled caliphate in Syria and Iraq and demanded the loyalty of the world’s Muslims.
Later Monday, pledges from militants in Libya and Yemen also surfaced online. The separate pledges— one in an audio recording and another in a statement— carried no known names of militant groups in either country, instead referring generally to the “holy warriors” in the two countries.
The Associated Press could immediately verify the authenticity of either statement, but they both made local references, followed a format similar of the Egyptian message and urged other Muslims to show loyalty to the Islamic State group’s self-styled Caliph, or leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Iraqi officials said Sunday that al-Baghdadi had been wounded in an earlier airstrike, though the group has not commented on the report.
The Egyptian militant group’s announcement pledging loyalty to Islamic State leader came in an audio speech posted late Sunday on its official Twitter account and a militant website. Last week, the group had used the same Twitter account to deny reports saying it had pledged allegiance to al-Baghdadi….”

Thank you
I can’t stop crying, so I’m useless to the Israeli kids we brought here this summer. Shame on me, they need adult attention right now.
The father of one of the host families sent me home with cookies and suggested I read this article about optimism. (The author is a Reform Rabbi, so I was assigned a string of Psalms to read as well. Just in case.)
Jewish Optimism In the Face of Hamas’ War
http://www.thetower.org/article/jewish-optimism-in-the-face-of-hamas-war/
And as Maimonides taught, hope is the belief in the plausibility of the possible, not the necessity of the probable. Thus, we must struggle, and help others struggle, with the tension between the world as it is and the world as it ought to be. And as Jews have always done, we must refuse to yield to cynicism or despair, always believing in and striving toward a better, brighter future.
Don’t give up, you always chew me out when I get down. Remember that no matter how dark things look they will get better, and always remember that once the sleeping giant awakens the entire world will tremble. Granted it is taking time for us to wake up but the signs are saying we are waking and doing it at speed.
Right. Defeatist thinking is for losers. I have little tolerance for it, as it saps the will of the weak. That leaky mess of gray matter can be put to better use, even counting sheep.
Right now I may be just a little closer to the sharp edge, but we’re all much closer than most people appreciate. Giving up is not an option for me and mine; there is no alternative.
You’re a resolute fighter. I’m truly grateful we’re on the same side. No compromising with an enemy defined with precision. No bravado, no blood-lust. Just a job to be done, then done well.
We share a resolute determination to defend our way of life. So do many in Eeyore’s gang – extended to include the Baron, the Sheik, the Sultan, and Ezra-the-Magnificent.
Not a one has a white flag in their underwear drawer.
That is what most soldiers are, craftsmen doing their jobs, not out for blood but out to protect their nation and culture.
The VA is watching an experimental program using yoga and Tai Chi to treat PTSD, it is showing a lot of promise and could help relax you when you get down. I know deep breathing exercises helps lessen the effects of mild (this isn’t the best word but there isn’t better one) migraines if you catch them early enough.
@ yucki: firstly (((((((((((( x ))))))))))) <—(that's meant to be a hug)
“I can’t stop crying, so I’m useless to the Israeli kids we brought here this summer. ..”
I fully understand your despair but I dont believe for one minute that you are “useless to the Israeli kids”…sometimes it actually could empower a young one to console an adult…and they are often surprisingly stronger than we are, facing some of the truth…
Only read the start of the article you link to so far:
“The story is told of a visitor to Jerusalem’s Biblical Zoo who saw that each enclosure bore a sign with a pertinent biblical quotation. One quoted Isaiah: “[T]he wolf and the lamb shall dwell together.” Across the moat separating the animals from visitors, he saw that a wolf and a lamb were, indeed, resting peaceably, side by side. Amazed, he sought out the zookeeper and asked how that was possible. “It’s simple,” the zookeeper replied. “Every day we put in a new lamb…”
I hope I am not being insensitive when I tell you that this reminds me of the Woody Allen(*) quote “The lion will lay down with the lamb, but the lamb won’t get much sleep.”
(*) And I hope that Woody Allan is a friend of Israel.
The article you linked to is EXCELLENT. I hope people take the time to read it:
“…no country yearns for peace more passionately than Israel. That is why it gave up the entire Sinai for peace with Egypt, made peace with Jordan, left Lebanon, left all of Gaza, and offered 97% of the West Bank for a Palestinian state…”
^^^ Having broken wrist and fingers of my right hand and a few on my left hand, I am thinking: no more falling for me, I have run out of arms !
Thank-you, Rita!
You’re right, they sounded so grown-up giving me all the reasons not to worry. Plus advice: don’t fake it. Pretending signals panic, which is not exactly useful in an emergency.
*Woody Allen borrowed that line.
*Woody Allen* – do you know whom he borrowed it from? It’s on the tip of my 3 (now nearly 4) typing fingers, but I cannot remember.
BTW, is Woody Allen on the right side of Israel? (The more terror is heaped onto this embattled, but brave little country, the more this is becoming a prerequisite for my approval of someone – call me judgemental ;))
The Walking Dead in Israel… When Radical Islamist Zombies Attack
http://www.israelusa.net/the-walking-dead-in-israel-when-radical-islamist-zombies-attack/
One day the Muslims are going to find themselves viewing the world through razor wire, because no one is going to trust them enough to even share physical space with them. They are making their own beds, but they’re not going to like it when the world finally responds by isolating them completely. They think they’re going to win, but they’re wrong. And once the momentum starts to move against them, it will be well nigh impossible to slow that juggernaut down.
Given what is happening we may not just isolate them we may remove them from areas that are now considered Moslem terrority, Turkey springs to mind.
What is happening in Turkey is ample evidence that there will never be a moderate Islam, no matter how hard the left tries wishing it were real.
“…What is happening in Turkey is ample evidence that there will never be a moderate Islam…”
In a conversation with the sister of Mohamed Merah(*), secretly recorded (**), she (fully veiled, breeding like a rattle snake and living off the French taxpayer as they do) said: “I admire Mohamed, he did what we all want to do but haven’t got the courage to do…) . Not long after, in an TV interview done for damage control, she was the “moderate muslim again”

I love your optimism and soooooooo want to share it !
I started reading history for fun when I was 10, I am now 68 and have a lot of historical data to draw on, I know the fight can be won if we will just fight back. In fact if we fight back there is no way we can lose the war. Now if we can get national leaders who will fight! Always remember that when President Reagan was sworn in it looked like there was no way the west could win the Cold War, by the time he left office there was no way the USSR could win.
Always remember an old saying (I forget who first said it) comes the time comes the man. When things get desperate enough a national leader will arise to save the west, all we have to fear is that that leader will institute strong man rule.
I really hate to see this. Fifteen years ago I spent two semesters as a visiting professor in Turkey. I liked my students, I liked the people I encountered, and I liked the country. Yes, my students and my colleagues were Muslims, but they weren’t (then, anyway) out to take over the world for Allah. Something has changed. Is it only Erdogan, or have the Turkish people changed? I hope it’s only the former.
“…Is it only Erdogan, or have the Turkish people changed? I hope it’s only the former.”
If Nazism stamped out a nation’s decent impulses through intimidation, lies and fear” so can Islam.
15 years ago, Ataturk was still considered a hero, now, Erdogan and his gang have just about erased him, how long before they will decapitate him posthumously for having done the opposite to islam of what Adolf Erdogan has done over the past fe years.
There are still a lot of decent people in Turkey but they have no power and are on the verge of being forced out of their nation. There will always be decent people in all nations but they often have no power, given the current direction of history the decent people are going to have to decide if they want to run to another nation of keep their mouths shut.
