    “A bomb exploded on Sunday morning at the police headquarters in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul, killing at least one officer and wounding another six, officials said. “A suicide bomber in military uniform carried out the attack on the third floor of the building, where my office is located,” Kabul’s chief of police General Mohammad Zahir Zahir said. Speaking to The Associated Press by telephone, he said: “Unfortunately as a result of this attack, a police officer who was a director of my office was killed and at least six other police offices are wounded.”

    Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqqi said the explosion happened in the compound at about 9 a.m. (0430 GMT), when the area was crowded. The explosion came about two hours after another blast was heard in the city. Defense Ministry spokesman Gen. Mohammad Zahair Azimi said that explosion was an attack on an Afghan army vehicle that resulted in no casualties. Taliban insurgents claimed responsibility for both attacks.”

    Tony Blair signed a secret contract with a Saudi oil firm, which promised him £41,000 a month and commission on deals he helped broker, it has been claimed.

    The former prime minister signed the agreement with PetroSaudi – founded by a senior member of the Saudi royal family – in November 2010 in a deal that would promote the firm to Chinese leaders.

    It proposed fees of £41,000 a month and a two per cent cut on any successful negotiations for Blair, while the firm was told it was prohibited from disclosing his role without consent.

    The 21-page leaked document, obtained by The Sunday Times, is the first time a detailed contract agreed by his office – Tony Blair Associates – has been revealed.

    The newspaper claims it is also the first piece of evidence of his work for a Middle Eastern oil firm.

    Mr Blair’s role as a Middle East Peace Envoy is to hammer out a ceasefire in times of conflict between the Israelis and Palestinian

    But it is thought the revelations will give rise to fresh criticism of his role and his private interests.

    PetroSaudi, which was jointly founded by Saudi businessman Tarek Obaid and son of Saudi Arabia – King Abdullah – Prince Turki bin Abdullah Al Saud, has projects in Tunisia, Ghana and Indonesia.

    A senior PetroSaudi source told the Sunday newspaper: ‘[Blair] has got deep ties to the Middle East and that is how we got to know him.

    ‘It was a confidential engagement to help us develop business in China.’

    The report stated that TBA would help find potential sources of new investment and Blair would have to personally make introductions to contacts, including senior political leaders.

    A former ambassador to Libya, Oliver Miles, has called for the former Labour Party leader to be removed from his current post in the Middle East – where his office is based in Jerusalem.

    The fact this was kept a secret, or was intended to be kept a secret, was a mistake,’ he told the Sunday Times.

    But Tony Blair Associates has defended the claims, maintaining the PetroSaudi contract was ‘nothing to do with the Middle East’ and only lasted for ‘a period of months’.

    A spokesperson said: ‘Tony Blair Associates worked for PetroSaudi for a period of months over four years ago.

    ‘This was in connection with an issue in the Far East and nothing whatsoever to do with the Middle East or the unpaid ex-officio role of Tony Blair for the Quartet in Palestine.

    ‘TBA has had no involvement in Malaysia and has no knowledge of the matter.’

  6. Baghdad blasts in Shiite areas kill at least 33

    A wave of car bombs struck Shiite-majority areas of Baghdad on Saturday, killing at least 33 people, security and medical officials said.

    The six car bombs, which hit five different areas of the Iraqi capital, also wounded more than 100 people.

    The deadliest single attack was in Sinaa Street in the city’s central Karrada district, and killed at least 10 people.

    Two car bombs also hit the Amil area of south Baghdad, and one each exploded in Ameen in the east, Zafraniyah in the centre and Sadr City in the north.

    Baghdad is hit by near-daily bombings and shootings, some of which have been claimed by the Islamic State (IS) jihadist group, which has overrun large parts of the country since June.

    IS and other Sunni extremist groups consider Shiites to be heretics and frequently target them.

    The jihadists would have to make major advances to even attempt to occupy part of the Iraqi capital, but security forces are unable to keep them from carrying out bomb attacks.

  7. New video shows scenes inside ‘Boko Haram-controlled town’

    A new Boko Haram video obtained by AFP on Sunday shows militants on an armoured vehicle parading down a road in an unidentified town they apparently control and the group’s leader Abubakar Shekau preaching to locals.

    It was not possible to tell whether the footage was staged for propaganda purposes, especially scenes of residents cheering Islamist fighters.

    The message appeared to be aimed at reinforcing Shekau’s claim that he has created a caliphate within Nigeria.

    In the 44-minute video, Boko Haram voices support for other so-called caliphates, including the one proclaimed in Iraq and Syria by the Islamic State (IS) group.

    Shekau, who is pictured in closeup shots with rare clarity, again dismisses government claims about ceasefire talks.

    – ‘Living in a caliphate’ –

    The video, which was delivered through the same channels as past messages, shows armed men lined along a well-paved road, with three pick-up trucks bristling with heavy weapons also visible.

    Black, crested flags associated with the Islamist group are also shown.

    Later, an armoured vehicle rolls down the road lined with both fighters and individuals who appear to be residents of the town.

    Boko Haram has released a series of videos showing similar military hardware, equipment it says was stolen from the Nigerian military. Such claims have been impossible to verify.

    No women or girls are seen on the street or anywhere else in the footage.

    Most of the message is taken up by a sermon from Shekau, delivered indoors but apparently played on a speaker to locals assembled outside.

    “We have indeed established an Islamic caliphate,” he said, restating a claim he first made in August.

    The images of the sermon include unusually clear closeups of the Nigerian militant leader.

    – ‘Support for Islamic brethren’ –

    Shekau has previously expressed solidarity with other jihadi groups and leaders.

    In the latest video, he seemed to associate territory under his control with a wider, global caliphate, but did not submit to the authority of any other jihadi leader.

    “To everyone living in Islamic Caliphate, we convey our greetings,” he said, specifically mentioning “brethren” in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Shishan (an Islamist term for Chechnya), Yemen, Somalia and “the Caliphate in Iraq and Syria.”

    A graphic shown later includes a picture the IS group’s leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi as well as a portion of the message his group issued on July 1 proclaiming a caliphate in Iraq and Syria.

    Iraq on Sunday was investigating whether Baghdadi was killed in air strikes by US-led coalition warplanes.

    – ‘There is no truce’ –

    Nigeria maintains it is still negotiating with Boko Haram envoys in neighbouring Chad and that a disputed October 17 ceasefire declaration remains viable.

    Violence has however continued and the Islamists are believed to control more than two dozen towns and villages in the northeast.

    “There is no truce between me and Nigerian tyrants,” Shekau said, dismissing the credibility of Danladi Amhadu, the purported rebel negotiator.

    “This person Danladi… if he thinks he can, let him show his face. By Allah, we will kill him,” the Islamist leader said.

        Rabat- For three years, a butcher in Zurich, the largest city in Switzerland, deceived his Muslim customers by selling them pork falsely presented as calf.

        The butcher has reportedly sold 3.1 tons of pork making his customers believe that the meat is Halal, according to the Swiss version of 20Minutes, which revealed this scandal.

        In a routine control of food security, an inspector noticed that the meat presented for sale didn’t look like calf, as the tag claimed.

        The manager of the butchery was sentenced to 6 months in jail and a fine 18,000 Swiss francs (about $18,680) “for fraud and misrepresentation.”

        “If customers had known it was pork, they would not have bought it because Islam forbids the consumption of this type of meat,” says the prosecutor handling the case.

        The butcher was deceiving his customers double fold. On the one hand, Muslims who were buying meat at his shop did not know it was pork, which is forbidden according to the teachings of Islam. On the other hand, he made substantial profits, since pork is much cheaper than the calf on the meat market.
