4. “Far right” groups clash with “anti-fascists” in Rochester ahead of by-election

Far-right extremists clashed with anti-fascists on the streets of Rochester, bringing a bitter note to the by-election campaign.

Members of Britain First, the BNP splinter group, marched in uniform to the town’s war memorial shouting incendiary anti-Muslim slogans.

They were blocked by a crowd of more than 100 people, including Labour supporters, teenage Tory activists and anti-fascist groups, hurling chants of “scum” back at them as a wall of police officers kept the two groups apart.

5. Canadian Warplanes Launch First Airstrike in Iraq (abcnews, Nov 2, 2014)

Canadian warplanes involved in the U.S.-led bombing campaign against militants in Iraq have launched their first airstrikes since deploying to the region.

A statement from Defense Minister Rob Nicholson’s office on Sunday said two fighter jets attacked targets in the vicinity of Fallujah with laser-guided bombs and safely returned to their base in Kuwait. Few other details were immediately released.

Canada has deployed six CF-18s along with a C-150 Polaris and two CP-140 Aurora surveillance aircraft as its contribution to the bombing campaign against the Islamic State group, which has seized large parts of Iraq and Syria. About Canadian 600 airmen and airwomen are involved.

    • As an Osama bin Laden Truth Denier, (I’m convinced he died years earlier and the evidence presented of this new man shot by SEALs is as convincing as Obama’s birth certificate), all this hoo haa is like reality tv – just played before the cameras.

‘Gulf inhabitants generally concur that gender segregation is sanctioned by the Holy Qur’an, related to the principle of hijab in its extended symbolic sense of modesty and privacy beyond its more common meaning of veiling and covering.’

Only in Oman are university classes not gender-segregated. Student response to this has been to self-segregate.

Shiite militia, Iraqi security forces behind Sunni mosque massacre, report finds (CNN, Nov 2, 2014)
    http://edition.cnn.com/2014/11/02/world/meast/mosque-massacre-report/index.html

“The gunmen came in during noon prayers at the small Sunni mosque in the Diyala province, waving AK-47 machine guns.

Then they opened fire, the sound of the gunfire carried over the mosque’s loudspeakers that seconds earlier had been broadcasting prayers.

When the bullets stopped flying at the Musab bin Omar Mosque in the village of Bani Weis, about 75 kilometers (46 miles) northeast of Baquba, 34 people were dead and a more than a dozen were wounded.

Now, a report released Sunday by Human Rights Watch, citing witnesses and survivors of the August 22 attack, points the finger at Shiite militias and Iraqi security forces.

Victims of the massacre “by Iraqi pro-government militias and security forces recognized the attackers and knew them by name,” the report said. Some wore Iraqi police uniforms, according to the report.

The rights group called on the government to make public details of its findings into the attack, which HRW said was consistent with a pattern of killings being carried out in Iraq by Shiite militias, including al Haq, the Badr Brigades and Kataib Hezbollah….”

  3. AUSTRALIA – SYDNEY – IS supporters shot man outside Greenacre mosque: Witness claims

A man who was shot outside a mosque in south-west Sydney was the victim of an attack by local Islamic State (IS) supporters, a witness has said.

Rasoul Al Mousawi, 47, was shot in the head in an industrial area on Rosedale Avenue, near the intersection of Brunker Road at 1:15am (AEDT).

He has undergone surgery for injuries that are not life threatening.

A friend of the victim, a Shia Muslim who did not want to be identified, said a group of men drove past the Houssaineyat-Alnabialakram Association in Greenacre several times before the shooting, calling out “IS lives forever”.

“They called us ‘Shia dogs’ and they threatened to come back down tonight and kill you, shoot you, whatever,” the man said.

“We didn’t believe them and we went home and we got a phone call that one of our community members got shot in the head.

“He was walking his family home so he can come back and do the cleaning (at the mosque) and they shot him in front of his family.

  4. SYRIA – IS beheads 8 Syria rebels who surrendered

Islamic State group jihadists beheaded eight Syrian rebels who had surrendered in a town on the border with Iraq last week despite pledges of an amnesty, a monitor said Monday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the men were executed and their bodies hung on makeshift crucifixes in Albu Kamal in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor.

“The men surrendered in Albu Kamal because the Islamic State had offered amnesty to people who fought them if they turned themselves in,” Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP.

Instead, he said, the eight opposition fighters were beheaded and then hung from crosses in a method often employed by the jihadist group.

The monitor, which relies on a large network of sources on the ground in Syria, said the men had belonged to a group that had fought against both the Syrian regime and the Islamic State.

Meanwhile, in the city of Deir Ezzor, the provincial capital, IS jihadists decapitated another three men, also hanging their corpses from crosses, the Observatory said.

The group said it was unclear when the executions took place, adding that two of the men were accused of collaboration with the Syrian regime and the third of fighting against the Islamic State.

IS has declared a so-called Islamic “caliphate” in the territory it controls in Syria and Iraq, imposing its extreme interpretation of Islam and executing opponents.
