Children under the age of ten are being trained as junior jihadis amid the growing extremist threat in the capital, the Deputy Mayor of London has warned.
Stephen Greenhalgh, who oversees policing in the capital, said both he and Boris Johnson have been briefed on cases in which primary pupils have been subjected to propaganda and “extremist ideology” by their families. He said the way some children were being radicalised was “horrendous”.

Fifty firefighters are tackling a large blaze at the University of Nottingham.
The fire in Radford is thought to have started in the Glaxo Smith Kline (GSK) building on Triumph Road.

Iran ‘sending troops’ to fight Islamic State in Iraq
Shia militias in Iraq, trained and funded by Iran, are leading the ground offensive against Islamic State (IS) alongside Kurdish fighters.
However, the BBC has learnt that Iran already appears to be sending troops and weapons to fight the Sunni extremists in the country.
American airstrikes have weakened the forces of Islamic State and US Secretary of State John Kerry is confident of building a coalition against it.
The BBC’s Gabriel Gatehouse reports from Iraq.
