“Islamist militants battling the Syrian government seized control of the Quneitra border crossing between Syria and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights on Wednesday, according to an Israeli military spokesman and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Among the fighters were members of al-Nusra Front, a Syrian rebel group with ties to al Qaeda, according to the Israel Defense Forces.

5. Muslim Fury as Burkini Banned in Top Hotels

Thinking of jetting off to Morocco for a last-minute end-of-summer getaway while staying uber modest? Well now you can’t — because hotels across the traditionally Muslim country have banned the burkini. Scores of resorts across the state have slapped a ban on the halal swimsuit, which covers the body and has a head covering attached, because they claim it’s unclean.

 

6. On the Brazilian prison riot, it seems that there was indeed beheadings and lots of weapons found, (I posted a video in a previous post which I mistakenly said was from a mosque but it was weapons found in that Brazilian prison) but there is no mention of any Islamic connection anywhere. It appears to be a crime gang in Brazil. I would argue from the beheadings and look, these people are influenced by islamic behavioral norms but there is no mention of Islam in any of the articles. This however wouldn’t be surprising from Brazilian media, but for the moment, there is no evidence showing it is Islam related.

    Oh, don’t worry… The United Nations Human Rights Council will be right on making sure that the evil-doers are brought to justice. Phew! Thank God there’s a United Nations. Where would we be without it?

    Are you sure? Oh well, I guess then one man’s nightmare is another’s utopian dream.

    • Ok 🙂 But my focus was on the fact that they will spread around the world afterwards.

      • Consider also the possibility that westerners who attend the annual hajj are intentionally exposed upon return to western nations… the 21st century Juhayman effect 2.0 assisting unaware fellow muhammedans whose hajj requirement has been fulfilled upon their final journey.

      • impression is that ebola has a rapid incubation rate and just as rapidly destroys is host in about 4 days – less time than the completion of the Hajj. In which case the infection would stop at and be contained in Mecca.

        But that’s just wishful thinking and too much to hope for. A more realistic scenario is that groups of demented muslims (yes, tautology) weaponize it by creating aerosols from infected patients and spread them to crowded centers in the West. That scenario is certainly not beyond the bounds of possibility.

  4. #2 – Islamic State claims to have executed 200 Syrian troops

    THE Islamic State has released pictures it claims shows the execution of 200 Syrian soldiers after the capture of a key military air base earlier this week.

    The unconfirmed reports, which contain pictures and video footage of hundreds of soldiers being led into the desert dressed only in their underwear, were circulated on social media by IS supporters early this morning.

      Rights group says up to 65 soldiers slaughtered; militants say 200

      The Islamic State group has killed dozens of Syrian soldiers it captured after overrunning a military base in northeastern Syria, shooting some and using knives on others in the latest brutal mass killing attributed to the extremists, activists said today. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the militants rounded up the soldiers in the arid countryside yesterday near the Tabqa airfield, three days after seizing the base in heavy fighting. The government troops were among a large group of soldiers from the base who were stuck behind the front lines after the airfield fell to the jihadi fighters.

      Observatory director Rami Abdurrahman said the extremists killed up to 65 soldiers. He said some were shot to death, while others were killed with knives. A statement posted online and circulated on Twitter by supporters of the Islamic State group claimed the extremists killed “about 200” government prisoners captured near Tabqa. It also showed photographs of what it said were the prisoners: young men stripped down to their underwear marching in the desert. The photos could not immediately be verified, but correspond to other AP reporting.

    “There was a “statistically significant” increase in net migration into the UK in the year up to March, from 175,000 to 243,000, official figures show. EU citizens accounted for two-thirds of the increase, including a rise in arrivals from Romania and Bulgaria.

    Prime Minister David Cameron said his target of reducing net migration below 100,000 could still be achieved. Separate figures showed over 25% of births in England and Wales last year were to mothers themselves born abroad.

    There was also a rise in the proportion of people in the UK who were born overseas…”

    “France is calling for “exceptional support” for Libya, warning the country could fall into chaos without United Nations intervention.

    If no action is taken, French President Francois Hollande warned, “terrorism will spread across the region.”

    His comments come a day after the UN Security Council called for an immediate ceasefire in Libya.

    It is also seeking sanctions against those involved in the surge in violence between rival militias.

    The names of those to face sanctions have not yet been decided.

    However, the Security Council has been alarmed by the increase in fighting between militia groups and Libya’s army factions in recent weeks.

    On 23 August a coalition of militias, including some Islamist groups, operating under the banner Libya Dawn, seized control of the international airport in the capital, Tripoli from a Zintan-based militia.

    The victory, which secures the alliance’s control over the capital, ends a five-week siege.”

  16. EGYPT – Sinai militant group says it beheaded 4 Egyptians

    CAIRO: A Sinai-based militant group said Thursday that it had beheaded four Egyptians, accusing them of providing Israel with intelligence for an airstrike that killed three of its fighters.

    Four headless corpses were found in the Sinai Peninsula earlier this month, security sources said – the first time that any decapitations had been made public in Egypt.

    The men had been abducted by gunmen two days earlier while driving in the town of Sheikh Zuwaid, which is just a few kilometers from the Gaza Strip.

    In a video released on Twitter, Egypt’s most dangerous militant group, Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, said the four men had been spying for Israel’s Mossad spy agency.

    Armed men in black masks stood over the kneeling captives as one of the militants read out a statement. Minutes later, the four men had their heads cuts off.

    The filmed killings was reminiscent of images posted on the Internet by ISIS, which has seized large parts of Iraq and Syria, suggesting Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis might have been inspired by the group, notorious for beheadings and executions.

    The Sinai militants are not believed to be officially linked to ISIS insurgents. However, Egyptian intelligence officials say the group has influenced Egyptian militants who are based just over the border with Libya.

    The officials say the Libya-based fighters have also established contacts with Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis.

    Though the four dead men were civilians, security sources had said initially that they might have been targeted for their perceived allegiance to the police and army.

    In the video, Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis presented what it said were confessions by the men. Two of them said they had spent time in Israeli jails for smuggling. The other two said Mossad had paid them for information.

    The group said the men provided intelligence used in an airstrike on July 23 in northern Sinai that killed three of its fighters. At the time, the Egyptian army said no Israeli aircraft or drones had crossed into Egyptian airspace.

    Militants in the Sinai have stepped up attacks on policemen and soldiers since then-army chief Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi toppled President Mohammad Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood in July 2013.

    The attacks initially targeted security forces in Sinai – a remote but strategic part of Egypt located between Israel, the Gaza Strip and the Suez Canal – but they have since extended their reach, with bombings on the mainland.

    The violence has hurt tourism, a pillar of the economy.

    “The speaker of Niger’s parliament has fled the country after a parliamentary committee agreed he could be arrested over a baby-trafficking scandal. Hama Amadou, considered a presidential contender in 2016, says the allegations are politically motivated. His second wife and 16 other people were arrested in June accused of illegally buying new-borns from “baby factories” in south-eastern Nigeria. All of those accused have denied any wrong-doing. The babies are allegedly sold for thousands of dollars each.

    The BBC’s Niger correspondent Baro Arzika says the case has proved fortuitous for President Mahamadou Issoufou’s party which has been looking for ways to remove Mr Amadou as speaker since he fell out with the ruling coalition.

    The scandal has also shocked many in the predominantly Muslim country as it is seen as unIslamic to pass off adopted children as your own, our reporter says….”

    “Equatorial Guinea’s ambassador to the US is suspected of beating a girl with a wooden chair leg but will not be arrested because he has diplomatic immunity, officials say.

    Police in Arlington, near Washington DC, were called to Ambassador Ruben Maye Nsue Mangue’s residence on Monday.

    Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said they found a juvenile with a large cut to her head and other injuries.

    “We determined the ambassador was the primary suspect,” he said.

    Mr Sternbeck said the girl had sustained a “significant laceration” to her head, bruises and a swollen eye and was taken to Virginia Hospital Center.

    He said she had been beaten with the wooden leg of a chair.

    Mr Sternbeck added that police officers, who do not have jurisdiction in cases involving diplomats, did not make any arrests and informed the US state department.

    A state department official said the agency was in contact with local authorities but could not discuss the incident further…”

    “Egypt has opened an investigation into ousted President Mohammed Morsi for allegedly handing over secret files to Qatar, state media report.

    Mr Morsi was suspected of leaking “documents relevant to national security” via the Doha-based al-Jazeera TV network, the Mena news agency said.

    Qatar supports the Muslim Brotherhood, the Islamist group to which he belongs.

    Mr Morsi, who was overthrown by the military last summer, is facing four separate trials on various charges.

    They include conspiring with foreign terrorist groups, inciting the murder of his opponents when he was in power, and orchestrating a prison break during the 2011 uprising that toppled his predecessor, Hosni Mubarak.

    Several other Brotherhood leaders, as well as hundreds of ordinary members, have already been sentenced to death.

    A crackdown by the authorities over the past year has seen more than 1,400 people killed and 16,000 others detained, rights activists say….”

    “Nigeria has confirmed its first Ebola death outside Lagos – a doctor in the oil hub of Port Harcourt.

    His wife has been put under quarantine, while a further 70 people in the city are under surveillance.

    Latest figures show more than 1,550 people have died of Ebola, with at least 3,000 confirmed cases – mostly in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

    The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that the total number of cases could potentially exceed 20,000.

    In an action plan to deal with the outbreak, the WHO said that “the actual number of cases may be 2-4 fold higher than that currently reported” in some areas.

    Speaking to reporters, the WHO assistant director-general, Bruce Aylward, said the possibility of 20,000 cases “is a scale that I think has not ever been anticipated in terms of an Ebola outbreak”.

    He added: “That’s not saying we expect 20,000… but we have got to have a system in place that we can deal with robust numbers.”

    This unprecedented outbreak is currently out of control as medical agencies struggle to cope with the increasing number of cases on the ground and continue to face hostility from communities in certain affected areas, the BBC’s West Africa correspondent Thomas Fessy reports….”

    The UN agency said the number of cases could already be four times higher than the 3,000 currently registered.

    It also called on airlines to resume “vital” flights across the region, saying travel bans were threatening efforts to beat the epidemic.

    So far, 1,552 people in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Nigeria have died.
