“A leaked report into the so-called “Trojan Horse” plot has found evidence there was an agenda to introduce “an intolerant and aggressive Islamist ethos” into some Birmingham schools. The report, revealed in The Guardian, was ordered by the government after claims some Muslim groups were trying to take control in some schools.
The Department for Education has said it will not comment on the leaks.
Birmingham council has released its own report, disagreeing with Mr Clarke.
The government’s report was compiled by retired senior police officer Peter Clarke, the former head of the Met Police’s counter-terrorism unit. It is due to be published next week.
It says he found evidence of “sustained and co-ordinated agenda to impose upon children in a number of Birmingham schools the segregationist attitudes and practices of a hardline and politicised strain of Sunni Islam”.
He also found evidence of a “co-ordinated, deliberate and sustained action to introduce an intolerant and aggressive Islamist ethos into some schools in the city”.
The agenda would have confined “schoolchildren within an intolerant, inward-looking monoculture that would severely inhibit their participation in the life of modern Britain,” the leaked report says….”
IS militants kill 115 in Syria gas field takeover: NGO
BEIRUT: Militants killed at least 115 Syrian regime fighters, civilian security guards and employees when they seized a gas field in Homs province, a monitoring group said Friday, updating an earlier toll.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights described Thursday’s takeover of the Shaar field as “the biggest” anti-regime operation by the Islamic State (IS) since it emerged in the Syrian conflict last year.
The Observatory also said the fate of another 250 people who worked at the site but went missing during the fighting remains unknown.
“The number of people, most of them security guards and members of the (paramilitary) National Defence Forces, killed in the IS attack on the Shaar gas field in Homs province has risen to at least 115,” said Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman.

“Boko Haram gunmen killed many villagers and set homes ablaze in a northeastern Nigerian town just 85 kilometers (53 miles) from the strategic center of Maiduguri before dawn Friday, according to survivors. Residents of Damboa town called The Associated Press to say they were “piling up corpses.”
Half the town is up in flames, say civilian defense fighters there according to Nigerian Vigilante Group spokesman Abbas Gava.
Well-armed Islamic extremists attacked as residents were preparing for the 5 a.m. dawn prayers and the civilian defense fighters could only resist with clubs and homemade shotguns, he said.
Damboa has been besieged for two weeks, since Islamic extremists on July 4 attacked a new tank battalion base set up on its outskirts. The Defense Ministry reported it repelled the attack and killed at least 50 insurgents, with the deaths of six soldiers including the commanding officer. But locals said the soldiers were driven from the base and that extremists twice have ambushed military convoys trying to reach it in the past week.
The militants had cut off access to the town from the south on Monday when they blew up a bridge further south. Damboa is on the main road south from Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

OTTAWA – CANADA-July 18 – Police close street, evacuate homes as part of tactical operation in south end
Police have closed part of an Ottawa street as a tactical team executes a search warrant in the city’s south end.
The tactical officers were joined on Topley Crescent on Friday by members of the police chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosives unit.
Five homes were evacuated between Keys Way and Karsh Drive, and the public was being asked to avoid the area.
Police said the level of risk for this operation was high enough to warrant evacuating the immediate area for the safety of police officers and the community.
The police’s CBRNE unit is responsible for responding to a variety of incidents including suspicious packages, recovered explosives, bomb threats and homemade explosive labs, according to the Ottawa Police Services website.
Police said the warrant execution is part of an ongoing investigation. They could not immediately provide any additional information.
