Islam and its meaning and consequences post 3 for July 16 2014.

There should be some interesting materials tonight as well. Try and check back in 8 hours or so.

1. Woman breaks free from man who grabbed her in sexual assault

A teenage woman managed to escape the grasp of a man during a sexual assault in Epsom on Tuesday. […] The man was described as Asian, in his mid-30s and with short black hair. He was wearing a black or navy jacket and had stubble or a beard. It is believed he was on foot.

2. Canadian Killed in Syria Lives On as Pitchman for Jihadis

WASHINGTON — Shortly after the video begins, a man in his 20s dressed in camouflage appears on screen and begins a recruitment speech.

His pitch is fairly straightforward: Come join the fight — you don’t need to be a radical to be a jihadi.

He says he was just a normal teenager growing up in Canada, fishing and watching hockey, before he left it all for the battlefields of Syria.

3. Stephen Coughlin appeared on Michael Coren tonight to discuss the performance of the imam at the Vatican on June 8 2014. For those not familiar with the issue, here is a link to the complete analysis. This is very content rich and should be seen a few times.

4. Ebola 2014: Death toll, new cases on the rise in Africa

(Video at site)

As of July 12, the cumulative number of Ebola virus cases in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone was at 964, including 603 deaths. The death toll has almost doubled in a month’s time; reported deaths in the three countries in mid-June was 350.

A coordination center is being established in Conakry, Guinea, where the World Health Organization is sending epidemiologists, communications experts and other support staff. Trained volunteers are also helping officials find possible cases and isolate infected individuals.

(So long as people tolerate multicultural beliefs there cannot be an artificial fix for this problem. “Poverty, superstition, fear and ignorance” are all functions of the cultures where this disease is epidemic. You cannot fix this without destroying the cultures that believe, for example, the way to cure AIDS is to have sex with a virgin or a young boy. Which explains another health crisis in Africa)

  • Employee said he couldn’t sell them as he was fasting for religious festival
  • Mother-of-three was instead forced to use the self-service checkouts
  • She told worker he should be serving people not turning them away
  • Firm apologises to customer but refuses to condemn worker’s actions

Thank you Wrath of Khan, Yucki, M, ML and all who sent in material.

  1. Insurgents attack outside Kabul airport in predawn raid (CNN, July 17, 2014)
    http://edition.cnn.com/2014/07/16/world/asia/afghanistan-violence/index.html

“Insurgents attacked a building outside Kabul International airport early Thursday, police said. The gunmen took over a half-completed building in an assault that included explosives, rocket-propelled grenades and machine-gun fire, according to police spokesman Hashmat Stanikzai.

The attackers were surrounded by Afghan police forces, he said. The building where the firefight was taking place is located in a settlement a few hundred meters outside the grounds of the airport. Operations there have not been affected, said Stanikzai. There were no immediate reports of casualties.”

  2. 3/ If there is anyone who is a difficult fit for the 5-minute format it’s Stephen Coughlin! But bully for Michael Coren for trying to shoehorn him into it. You can almost see the wealth of information-I’m-sorry-we-don’t-have-more-time-for bulging the sides of the frame.

I’m not sure the link to the complete analysis is there.

    • Bookmark all of his videos, send the urls to all of your friends, his videos really need to go viral.

  3. As reporters vie with each other to report the plight of Gazans, they always report something along the lines

The unemployment rate in Gaza stood at approximately 40% before the latest conflict, with a similar proportion being classed as living under the poverty line.

But that is from a UN report.

What I see is that almost all Gazans are overweight. In a very recent TV program, one man had 9 children and over a hundred grandchildren. This population boom has been continuing over the last 60 years. No wonder no matter how much aid from our taxes one gives these spoilt people, it will never be enough.

  4. Tunisian soldiers killed in attack near Algerian border (BBC, July 17, 2014)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-28341318

“At least 14 Tunisian soldiers have been killed in a militant attack near the Algerian border with at least 20 others wounded, the defence ministry says. They say gunmen, armed with rocket-propelled grenades and rifles, raided two checkpoints near Mount Chaambi. It is reportedly the heaviest death toll registered by the army since independence in 1956.

The Tunisian army has been waging a crackdown on militants operating in the mountainous region over the past year. Islamist militants, including fighters linked to al-Qaeda in the Islamic Mahgreb (AQIM), are believed to be hiding out in the border region….”

  6. Malaysian Plane ‘Crashes With 295 On Board’

A Malaysian passenger plane has crashed in Ukraine, according to aviation sources cited by the Russian news agency Interfax.

The airliner, which was travelling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur with 295 people on board, is thought to have come down close to the border with Russia.

A spokesman for Malaysian Airlines has confirmed “an incident” on board one of its flights and is expected to release a statement shortly.

The aircraft involved is believed to be a Boeing 777 with flight number MH17, which departed from Amsterdam at 12.14am local time.

Sky’s Katie Stallard, in Moscow, said media reports suggest the plane came down in an area where there has been recent heavy fighting amid continuing tensions between Russia and Ukraine.

  7. Egypt freezes assets of 66 Brotherhood-owned firms

An Egyptian government committee said on Thursday that it had frozen the financial assets of 66 companies owned by leaders of the embattled Muslim Brotherhood group.

“The panel froze the assets of 66 companies owned by Muslim Brotherhood leaders,

Since being drawn up last September, the committee has frozen the assets of scores of the group’s leaders and Brotherhood-affiliated NGOs.

In June, the panel froze the assets of several shopping malls owned by Muslim Brotherhood leaders.

Last September, Egypt’s court of urgent matters banned the activities of the Muslim Brotherhood and all affiliated organizations and froze all their assets.

The latest asset freeze comes amid a harsh government crackdown on the Brotherhood, which has remained ongoing since last summer’s ouster of president Mohamed Morsi –a Brotherhood leader himself – by the Egyptian army.

  9. Syria conflict: Western countries sending millions of pounds in aid to Isis-controlled regions

Western governments are sending millions of pounds of aid to areas held by the radical Islamic group Isis in northern Syria, The Independent can reveal.

The aid, which is paid for by the UK, European and US governments, consists of food, medicine and hygiene kits. It is brought into the country through the war-torn north from the two last remaining border posts open with Turkey in Reyhanli and Kilis.

Western groups such as Mercy Corps International, the Norwegian Refugee Council, World Vision, the International Rescue Committee and the United Nations World Food Programme provide supplies to hundreds of thousands of people every month across the self-proclaimed Islamic State.

This includes towns such as Raqqa, Manbij and Jarablus, which have witnessed beheadings, crucifixions and other draconian interpretations of sharia since Isis took over early this year.

“We have lots of direct shipments into Isis-held areas. Nearly all of our trucks go through the Turkish border post near Kilis. Sometimes they get stuck en route, and we have to wait two or three weeks for them to get there if they get held up by fighting or another opposition group which isn’t happy that we’re sending aid through an Isis checkpoint,” said a Western aid worker. Aid groups say their aim is to help vulnerable people, not to support the rule of Isis. Mercy Corps, which has headquarters in the UK and the US, has received £27.3m from the UK Department for International Development for humanitarian activities in Syria.

A spokeswoman for Mercy Corps said: “We have been delivering essential aid to hundreds of thousands of civilians in need on all sides of the conflict, irrespective of race, ethnicity, religion or political affiliation – as an independent, impartial humanitarian organisation, that is our mandate.”

Isis uses social media to demonstrate the brutality with which it treats its enemies and those who break its laws. But it uses the same media to show it distributing aid and administering healthcare to people under its rule.
