1. Afghan market car bomb kills 89 in Paktika province

(Based on the reports out of Muslim countries I have seen in the past few years and in fact, the last few days (Egypt etc) one of the most dangerous things you can do in a muslim country appears to be going shopping for food. Please take note Canadian immigration authorities. Its not an accident of geography. It is an ideology which is highly importable much like communicable disease. Video at link)

At least 89 people have been killed and dozens injured in a suicide attack at a busy market in eastern Afghanistan’s Paktika province, local officials say.

They say the attacker drove a 4×4 vehicle into the market in Orgun district and detonated the explosives.

The market was full of people doing their shopping for the Muslim festival Ramadan at the time of the attack.

3. Malaysia: Najib urges Muslims to appreciate spirit of ‘Nuzul al-Quran’

(Another country ramps up its degree of islamic adherence. Islam demands not just the spread of islam geographically, but a constant increase in degree of adherence. Both ideas are called, ‘the hijra‘)

KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has urged Muslims to appreciate the spirit of ‘Nuzul al-Quran’ and be united to uphold the agenda of the ‘ummah’.

In a message on his Facebook page in conjunction with Nuzul Al-Quran that will be observed tomorrow, Najib invited Muslims to strategise with maturity and wisdom so that their responsibility to safeguard Islam in this world would be properly fulfilled.

4. Just over 4 years ago, June 2010, I interviewed Sam Solomon, a former very high ranking imam and islamic scholar (in the learned sense rather than the jihadi sense) about the nature and ambitions of Islam. Now that it has been just over 4 years, it might be worth revisiting what he said and seeing if it rings any more true, or seems as stunning as it did 4 years ago. 5. Egypt seizes rockets being smuggled into Gaza Strip

CAIRO — Egypt has reported the capture of Soviet-origin rockets from the Gaza Strip.

Egypt’s official Middle East News Agency said several BM-21 Grad surface-to-surface rockets were intercepted as they were being smuggled to the Gaza Strip.

MENA said the shipment consisted of 20 rockets and launchers, meant to be transported in the tunnels that connect Rafah, divided between Egypt and the Gaza Strip.
