2. Israel National News: Next Goal for ISIS – Jordan. And Then?

Ma’an  is a Bedouin village in the southern part of Jordan that has always been a headache for the country’s rulers. The population is strongly fundamentalist and includes a significant number of Salafists.

Street demonstrations that ended violently have been held there in the past, once brought on by food prices, once by the price of fuel, and once because the monarchy did not treat village leaders with enough respect. In time, Ma’an became Jordan’s baromemter, an indicator of underlying currents of opinion in the country.

On the 2th of June, in the middle of a Friday afternoon, Ma’an was the scene of a pro-ISIL (“The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant”, known as ISIS, but more accurately translated ISIL) demonstration where black flags waved and the signs had an unmistakable message (my additions in parentheses, M.K.).

 3. Yogyakarta, to cries of “Allah is great” unknown assailants attack Sacred Heart parish

Jakarta (AsiaNews) – Another Catholic community is now under attack in Indonesia in a climate of increasing cases of violence and abuse against religious minorities.

The Parish of the Sacred Heart in Pugeran, in the South of Yogyakarta was targeted early yesterday morning by three different groups of unknown assailants on motorcycles. The attack took place during the first morning Mass: the authors, dressed in black with their faces covered by masks, broke through the parish gates shouting “Allah is great”. 

4. Dozens killed and churches burned in latest Boko Haram attack

Police had promised residents protection following threats from the jihadists, but a local leader denounces that the army did not respond to requests for assistance launched by the villages under attack.

Lagos (AsiaNews / Agencies) – The dead from yesterday’s attack waged by Boko Haram on  villages near Chibok, in northeastern Nigeria are feared to be over 100.  It is the same area from where the group kidnapped more than 200 girls in April. Initial reports from the attack yesterday also speak of five churches and several houses burned.

The Islamists’ main target was the village of Kwada, where they used gunfire and bombs on worshipers leaving the churches. A similar fate awaited the villagers of Kautikari, located eight kilometers from Chibok.

6. USA: Two Women Arrested over Alleged Knockout Attack on 79-Year-Old Orthodox Jew

The Daily News reported that Raven Small, 20, and Tatyana Bone, 18, were arrested as suspects shortly after the incident that occurred on Sunday at 1:10 a.m. in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn.

An epidemic of these kinds of senseless attacks on unsuspecting victims have surfaced in cities across the nation. Many of the victims of the so called “knockout game” have been seriously injured and in some cases have suffered fatalities.

(‘Suffered fatalities’? Is that like, ‘metabolically challenged? Killed seems more like the right word to me)
