3. Manitoba Canada: Province to mark Ramadan for first time

For the first time, the Manitoba government Thursday will mark the beginning of Ramadan. Multiculturalism Minister Flor Marcelino will be celebrating with Manitoba Muslims their holy month of fasting in room 200 of the legislature from 5 to 7 p.m.

(Technically, islamic fasting is really more just skipping lunch)

5. Various Al-Qaeda groups merge under the current banner of ISIS/ISIL 

The number of Islamist extremists fighting for ISIS could double after al-Qaeda’s 15,000 strong offshoot in Syria is said to have pledged allegiance to the militant group.

The merger is believed to have taken place in Albu Kamel – on the border of Syria and Iraq, where all of the crossings are currently in the hands of Sunni militia, many of them members of ISIS.

In April the al-Nusra Front pledged allegiance to al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, who has previously condemned ISIS’ brutal attempts to establish an Islamic state in the Middle East as too extreme, so the development points to a new split within al-Qaeda’s ranks.

A man blew himself up at hotel in Beirut Wednesday as security forces stormed his room, a security source said.

    Notice the two Muslim countries partitioned out of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, are among the 50. Funny that the infidel dominated state of India isn’t. So much for the Islamic land of the pure. Now you know who created the riches in the Indian subcontinent. Not the Muslim imperialists.

  5. Afghanistan is listed too. Should have stayed Hindu/ Buddhist. It was quite a rich place when the Afghan cities of Kandahar was known as Indian Hindu locations in the sacred texts of the Vedas.

    Lebanese security officials have reported an explosion at a hotel in central Beirut during a botched security raid.

    The alleged suspect blew himself up in his room on Wednesday at the Duroy Hotel, sending flames and a dark cloud of black smoke billowing out of the building’s windows, according to witness reports.

    Lebanon’s Interior Ministry said the suicide bomber, a Saudi national, was killed in the blast and a second was apprehended by security personnel.

        The General Security agency on Thursday circulated the picture of a Lebanese man accused of providing the Duroy Hotel bombers with explosives, as media reports said the two attackers wanted to target al-Saha Restaurant in Dahieh.

        […]“He has the Swedish nationality (and a passport) with the name of ‘Monzer Al HASSAN’ and he has been driving two cars – an old beige Nissan and a gray Mercedes manufactured in 2005,” the General Security said, noting that “these two cars may be booby-trapped.”

        LBCI television said the man was arrested based on the confessions of the Saudi would-be suicide bomber who survived Wednesday’s blast and who was captured by the General Security.

        “The arrested would-be suicide bomber told interrogators that he and his companion had intended to target al-Saha Restaurant near the Great Prophet Mosque in Beirut’s southern suburbs,” LBCI reported.

        According to al-Akhbar newspaper, General Security agents overnight raided al-Saha Hotel in Dahieh in search for suspects who might have checked into the hotel.

        For its part, As Safir newspaper said “the cell yesterday received an order to carry out a double suicide attack through bombers wearing suicide vests against one of the biggest restaurants in Beirut which is part of a large hotel.”

        The daily said the attack was supposed to take place during peak time when customers would be watching one of the World Cup matches.

    • Iraq’s Sadr vows to “shake the ground” against militants

      Powerful Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr vowed to “shake the ground” under the feet of advancing Sunni militants as Iraqi premier Nuri al-Maliki warned rivals against exploiting the crisis to sideline him.

      “We will shake the ground under the feet of ignorance and extremism,” Sadr said in a televised speech from the Shiite holy city of Najaf.

      He added that he only supported “providing international support from non-occupying states for the army of Iraq”.

      The cleric’s remarks came days after fighters loyal to him paraded with weapons in the Sadr City area of north Baghdad, vowing to fight a major militant offensive that has alarmed the world and threatens to tear Iraq apart.

  9. 3/ “Ramadan is a time when Muslims share, and increase their empathy for the hungry through fasting”

    Hilarious. Ramadan is a time when Muslims gorge, and increase their obesity and manage to do even less work than usual, the real miracle of Ramadan, and have phenomenally bad breath.

    But silly me, thinking this is more Canadian hicks showing the world what suave cosmopolites they really are. A glance over Manitoba’s Wikipedia page reminds that Manitobans are so stuffed with culture they can barely get up off the ground. The RWB, the WSO, the WAG, the culture never ends. And now with Multiculturalism Minister Marcelino momentously marking Manitoba Muslims’ Month, they’ve got just about enough alliteration to win another Governor General’s Award for poetry.

      • As Nasreen says, the real Ramadan hardship, if they’re going whole hog, so to speak, is that they’re supposed to forego that afternoon delight they’re so accustomed to knocking off work early for, making more slave-babies to further the moon-god’s designs. Though apparently if you’re the one making the rules it’s okay to go home and suck on your nine-year-old wife’s tongue. Eww, as nine-year-old girls say.
