In the past couple of days there have been several articles about a giant ice sheet that is apparently breaking off from Antarctica and is proof not just of global warming but of the horrific escalating Revelations level destruction of all things warm and fuzzy on the earth.
I keep thinking though of a couple of things.
1. The earth has cooled more in the past 12 years due to lack of sunspots than it warmed in the previous 100
2. Scientists have discovered yet another giant active volcano under the ice sheets of Antarctica.
While yeah, the world may come to an end because of my neighbors’s Hummer, my money is on the volcano for melting the ice. Also, as the ice is already floating in the ocean, I fail to see how it could cause the ocean level to rise. Could someone please explain to me how Archimedes was wrong on that whole ‘displacement’ thing?
Earthquakes deep below West Antarctica reveal an active volcano hidden beneath the massive ice sheet, researchers said today (Nov. 17) in a study published in the journal Nature Geoscience.
It is true when we finely do leave the Quaternary ice age in a couple million years both polls will melt. Antarctica and Greenland which is ice on large land masses will lose all its ice to the oceans raising the sea level up to 200 feet.
This will take place but in about 2 million years about the time Andromeda galaxy hits the Milky Way (ours.) Which I would say is a MUCH greater threat.
Our real concern for us is the end of our interglacial period. This really is a major threat in our not to distant future.
“In the past couple of days there have been several articles about a giant ice sheet that is apparently breaking off from Antarctica and is proof not just of global warming but of the horrific escalating Revelations level destruction of all things warm and fuzzy on the earth.”
It happens in Interstadials. So, just like the recent polar vortex (caused by jet stream shifts), it’s a known and documented phenomenon, and not down to CAGW.

“While the Guardian’s Suzanne Goldenberg jumps the shark again, wailing that the collapse of the West Antarctic ice sheet has already begun and implying it’s due to mankind, prior research has demonstrated that collapse over centuries of the West Antarctic ice sheet is a natural phenomenon typical of the most recent interglacial periods.
According to glaciologists, “There is some evidence to suggest that, in previous interglacials, the West Antarctic Ice Sheet completely disappeared, leading to sea levels about 5m higher than at present [1]. Evidence…indicates open seaways across West Antarctica at various periods during the last few million years, and even during the past one or more interglacials.”
Thus, the complete collapse and disappearance of the entire West Antarctic ice sheet is typical of interglacials, there is no evidence that man has anything to do with the cause, nor that man can stop this phenomenon by forsaking use of fossil fuels. “

60% fifth graders unable to read second grade English, Urdu or Pashto (tribune, May 2, 2014)
http://tribune.com.pk/story/702890/60-fifth-graders-unable-to-read-second-grade-english-urdu-or-pashto/
“Caught between a declared education emergency and a change in the medium of instruction from Urdu to English, it seems the students of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) are losing ground and direction. This year’s Annual Status of Education Report (Aser) shows school-going children who are actually attending school are doing poorly in all aspects of learning.
The survey, conducted in rural areas of 25 districts in K-P, targeted 14,705 households in 741 villages and assessed 45,290 children, aged between three and 16. Out of these, 39,923 children between the ages of five to 16 were evaluated on their ability to read Urdu/Pashto, English and solve basic math problems.
The report describes the assessment tools for language and arithmetic as “designed to cover up to class two and class three level competencies, respectively, as per the national curriculum.”
According to the Aser report, 51% of grade five students enrolled in private schools were able to read at least one story in Urdu/Pashto, whereas only 35% of their class fellows at public schools were able to do the same….”
Panjgur incident: Militant group threatens English-language schools (tribune, May 8, 2014)
http://tribune.com.pk/story/705755/panjgur-incident-militant-group-threatens-english-language-schools/
“An armed group based in Panjgur, Balochistan’s western district, has threatened 23 English Language Learning Centers to shut down and stop imparting co-education and teaching in English, which they say is ‘Haram (prohibited) in Islam’.
Masked armed men barged into one language center on Wednesday and threatened the teachers and the young male and female students. “Co-education and learning English language is Haram (forbidden in Islam),” they told the teachers, according to one instructor who spoke on the condition of anonymity. The armed men destroyed the school’s furniture and tore textbooks during the incident.
Panjgur police have lodged an FIR against unidentified persons under the Anti Terrorism Act and security has been increased around the centers…”
Oxford sex gang: Scores more victims identified (BBC, May 14, 2014)
http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-27394888
“Police in Oxford say 50 to 60 young women have been identified as potential victims of a paedophile ring operating for eight years in the city.
Exactly a year ago, seven men were convicted of raping and trafficking six girls aged from 11 to 15 between 2004 and 2012.
The victims were groomed and subjected to sadistic sexual abuse.
Since then, Thames Valley Police has reviewed about 180 cases of vulnerable children potentially at risk.
The investigation, which began in 2012, has heard from dozens of girls who were connected to the gang.
The Kingfisher unit, which was set up by Thames Valley Police and Oxfordshire County Council in November 2012, also involves social services, health and education services…”
Is Iranian bomb research ‘mea culpa’ needed for nuclear accord? (yahoo/reuters, May 14, 2014)
http://news.yahoo.com/iranian-bomb-research-mea-culpa-needed-nuclear-accord-142300851.html
“U.N. watchdog findings that Iran may have worked on designing an atomic bomb helped the West tighten sanctions on Tehran which ultimately forced it, U.S. officials say, to enter serious talks on reining in its nuclear program.
But as Iran and six world powers enter a crucial stage in their efforts to hammer out a long-term deal by late July [ID:nL6N0O02IM], the issue of how to handle suspicions that the Islamic Republic has carried out nuclear weapon research could emerge as a serious stumbling block.
At issue is whether to press Iran to fully admit to any such activity in the past – even if it complicates the search for a broader deal to end the nuclear dispute – or whether to focus more on ensuring that whatever happened then has since stopped.
The outcome could have far-reaching consequences for the standing of the International Atomic Energy Agency, which has long struggled to end Iranian stonewalling of its investigations and which says clarification of all its questions is vital….
It is unrealistic to expect Iran to confess to “everything they know and did”, said Jim Walsh, a research associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), adding that he doubted a full public “mea culpa” by the country was needed.
Robert Einhorn, a former top U.S. State Department official once involved in talks with Tehran, said: “While full and honest Iranian disclosure of past activities is undoubtedly the best result, such an outcome faces formidable obstacles.”
A Western diplomat critical of Iran – not from any of the countries involved in the diplomacy – put it more bluntly, saying Iran had problems in addressing the allegations because the suspicions were “true and they are going to get caught”.
Iran says the accusations are false and baseless but has offered to work with the IAEA to clear them up….”
The left will use anything they can to fear monger and stop the west from being free and prosperous.
You know, the climate change fanatics aren’t even trying to be logical anymore, they just fire all guns all the time regardless of how ridiculous their statements are because they know it is virtually illegal now to call them on their lies. For instance, have you noticed how freely they now “state” that each storm, flood, or drought is definitely a result of manmade global warming, and that the oceans are going to rise immediately, regardless of the fact that it takes almost a thousand years for the oceans to change temperature and then rise due to thermal expansion? In other words, they are lying their goddam heads off and nobody has the guts to call them on it. I now place “science” and the probity of, “scientists”, along with Voodoo, astrology, and witches…
Voodoo at least uses real drugs to make its false claims.
Chris you now understand why I think we are entering a new Dark Age, things I learned in grade school are now considered graduate level work.
