May 06 2014 – French fight C. African Republic rebels in north
BANGUI, Central African Republic (AP) — French forces have fought an armed group in northern Central African Republic that is blamed for killing health workers from Doctors Without Borders.
The French military announced Tuesday in a statement that its forces had battled rebels in the region of Boguila-Kota and that “numerous losses” had been inflicted Monday.
Muslim rebels from the former Seleka alliance that controlled the country until January were blamed for the recent attack on a hospital in Boguila.
Doctors Without Borders – also known as Medecins Sans Frontieres, or MSF – had operated the facility since 2006.
The French army said that the fighting lasted four hours and that the rebels were heavily armed.
Doctors Without Borders say 16 people were killed in the April 26 attack, including three members of their staff.

May 06 2014 EGYPT –Al-Azhar demands Boko Haram to release kidnapped girls
Egypt’s Al-Azhar mosque has issued a statement on Tuesday demanding that the Nigerian Islamist extremist group, Boko Haram release schoolgirls it kidnapped from their dormitories on 15 April, denouncing the threats of the militant groups to sell the girls as slaves.
“This action does not relate to the noble teachings of Islam in any way. Al-Azhar demands the release of these girls immediately” said Al-Azhar’s statement.

Last Monday, Abubakar Shekau, the leader of Boko Haram, a group that has killed thousands in a five-year uprising, claimed responsibility for the kidnappings.
In a video message, Shekau said the group was holding the girls as “slaves” and would “sell (them) in the market.
A total of 276 girls were kidnapped when Boko Haram stormed their school at night and loaded them onto trucks. While some of the girls managed to escape, but more than 220 others are still being held captive, according to police.

The US has said it will allow Syria’s main opposition alliance to open a diplomatic mission in Washington.
The state department announced an additional $27m (£16m) in non-lethal assistance, and the stepping up of deliveries to the Free Syrian Army.
The move comes ahead of talks between senior US officials and Ahmed Jarba, president of the National Coalition.
The US first recognised the group as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people in December 2012.
The move does not mean the US recognises the National Coalition as Syria’s government, nor grant its members diplomatic immunity, says the BBC’s Barbara Plett in Washington.
Nor does it allow the opposition to take over the Syrian embassy, whose operations were suspended by the state department in March, our correspondent adds.
But an unnamed US official told the Associated Press that it had been a key request by opposition members, as they believe it will give them greater presence and credibility with officials in Washington and among Syrian expatriates in the US.
In a statement, Mr Jarba said the move was a “diplomatic blow against Assad’s legitimacy and demonstrates how far the opposition has progressed”…..”

Omar personally looked into the smallest affairs of the people….He was ever ready to help those who needed his help….All citizens, including the Caliph himself, were equal before the law….Modern democratic states have yet to reach this level of democracy…. ‘All men are equal….Government is a sacred trust.’ Etc. Etc.
