The Labour Party have been accused of “cheating” Milton Keynes residents after it emerged that one of their councillors was formerly second in command of a local neo-Nazi group.
Councillor Margaret Burke, was a far-right extremist who ran the Milton Keynes November 9th Society with her then husband Terry Flynn in the early 1980s.
They both wore Nazi-style uniforms and recruited gangs of local youths to hand out racist leaflets and daub buildings with swastikas, as reported by the Milton Keynes Citizen.

(Reuters) – U.S. President Barack Obama said on Sunday that the rights of Myanmar’s minority Muslim population were not being fully protected and warned that the Southeast Asian country would not succeed if Muslims there were oppressed.
On a visit to Malaysia, Obama praised political reforms under way in once-isolated Myanmar but said the danger of democratization was that it could unleash religious and ethnic conflicts and that such developments could move Myanmar in a bad direction.
“You have a Muslim minority (in Myanmar) … that the broader population has historically looked down upon and whose rights are not being fully protected,” Obama told a townhall-style meeting of young leaders from across Southeast Asia. “Myanmar won’t succeed if the Muslim population is oppressed.”

Britain is now a “post-Christian” country, former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams has said.
Speaking to the Sunday Telegraph, Lord Williams said Britain was not a nation of believers and that the era of widespread worship was over.
It comes after Prime Minister David Cameron said people in Britain should be confident of its status as “a Christian country”.

“If I say that this is a post-Christian nation, that doesn’t mean necessarily non-Christian.
“It means the cultural memory is still quite strongly Christian.”
He added: “But [Britain is] post-Christian in the sense that habitual practice for most of the population is not taken for granted.
“A Christian nation can sound like a nation of committed believers and we are not that. Equally, we are not a nation of dedicated secularists.
“It’s a matter of defining terms. A Christian country as a nation of believers? No.
“A Christian country in the sense of still being very much saturated by this vision of the world and shaped by it? Yes.”

Could be read as a threat, but in context it comes across more as a variation on ‘diversity is strength.’ The rest of that talk is equally nauseating. He wins applause for being black, calls himself a Christian who learned the Golden Rule from the teachings of Jesus and implies that such reciprocity exists in Islam.

A court in Minya has passed death sentences on 683 supporters of former president Mohamed Morsi, including leading members of the Muslim Brotherhood.
The Islamist group’s Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie was among the defendants found guilty of attacking Adawa police station and killing a police officer, Mamdouh Kotb Mohamed Kotb, on 14 August 2013 — following the dispersal of pro-Morsi sit-ins at Rabaa and Nahda squares.
They were also found guilty of committing violence, rioting, destroying public and private property, attacking police officers, and inciting violence.
The verdicts must be ratified by the grand mufti before they can be carried out.
The court has set 21 June for the final verdict to be passed, after the grand mufti has made his assessment.
The law allows the verdicts to be appealed.
March verdict
The same judge sentenced 529 people to death in March.
On Monday, he confirmed 37 of the death sentences and commuted 492 others to life imprisonment upon the instructions of the grand mufti.
The defendants were accused of killing a police officer and storming Matay police station on 14 August 2013.
Khaled El-Koumi, lawyer for one of the defendants sentenced to death, told Ahram Online that he would appeal against the verdict as soon the court has issued its reasoning within the next 60 days.

Gaza tunnels discovered in Rafah Mosque
The armed forces say they have discovered and destroyed the openings of six tunnels found in a mosque in the Gaza border town of Rafah.
The tunnels, discovered on Saturday, are thought to have been used by “extremist elements” for “smuggling and infiltration to and from the Gaza Strip in order to intensify their activity in northern Sinai,” said an armed forces statement on Sunday.
[…]The tunnel openings were found behind Al-Nasr Mosque’s washroom, behind the pulpit, one in the southern corner and three “from the bottom of the mosque”, according to the armed forces.
The armed forces destroyed the tunnels using machinery and flooding them with water.

Hizb ut-Tahrir is an Islamic organization founded in 1953 in East Jerusalem by a local Sharia court judge. The declared goal of the organization is to “restore the just Islamic way of life and Islamic State (Caliphate) and implement it in an Islamic system.” In the EU Hizb ut-Tahrir is banned in Germany (for anti-Semitic propaganda), as well as in Denmark and the UK.
In February 2003 the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation declared it a terrorist organization and banned its activities.

Kirkuk Iraq – April 28 2014 – 50 killed in bomb attack on rally, police and troops voting in Iraq
Fifty people were killed on Monday as suicide bombers attacked a political rally, Iraqi police and soldiers two days before a national election, authorities and witnesses said.
A suicide attacker killed at least 30 people and wounded 50 others at a Kurdish political gathering in the town of Khanaqin, 100 miles northeast of Baghdad, security sources said.
The Kurds were celebrating the television appearance of Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, a Kurd incapacitated since late 2012, who cast his vote in Germany where he was undergoing medical treatment.
“The attacker snuck among the crowds near the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan’s headquarters and blew himself up, causing a tragic massacre,” one police officer said, sobbing after he discovered his brother was among those killed.

BULGARIA – Bulgaria’s Rozovo Inhabitants ‘Discriminate’ Refugees – Ombudsman
Syrian refugees have been facing discrimination from the inhabitants of Rozovo, a Bulgarian village, according to the National Ombudsman.
Penchev’s comments came after three Syrian families were forced to leave Rozovo, a village in Central Bulgaria, following calls by locals that they go away until Monday.
Residents who issued the ultimatum (and who claim to represent the village’s population) said “more radical protests” and even “violence” could be triggered by their refusal to leave.
The 17 Syrians, six of whom were children, were thus forced away only a day after having moved in. They have been granted refugee status.
Konstantin Penchev said in an interview for the public broadcaster BNT that their actions were a demonstration of intolerance and could not be justified.
He stressed that the three Syrian families had paid for their stay and had not relied on charity to make a living.
Penchev was also clear they had done nothing wrong to Rozovo’s inhabitants and had shown no disrespect for the laws during their single day in the village.
The National Ombudsman added that the Syrian families that were driven out, as well as other asylum seekers and refugees whose rights have been violated by citizens or institutions could turn to his office for help.
Also on Monday morning, some 150 people (out of a population exceeding 1000) staged a demonstration in front of the house where the refugees had spent a day, waving Bulgarian flags which they later placed at the building’s door and on its fence.
They chanted, “Bulgaria for the Bulgarians!” and told journalists which covered their event they had been afraid that refugees could threaten their lives or rape some of the inhabitants.
It was pressure put by them on the house’s owner earlier last week that forced him to ask the Syrians to leave.
