1. Video of sharia punishment for theft in Saudi Arabia
It bears mentioning that 1. I didn’t watch it to the end. I stopped when they prepared his hand. I value what little of my sensitivity to human suffering I have left after something like 8 years of doing this blog, and 2. While showing the horror of sharia punishments makes for spectacular watching and easy disapproval I find it by far the less important aspect of sharia. Some people may approve of amputation for a thief. I myself support the death penalty for psychopathic joy-killers and other first degree murders etc. The real problem is the process of determining guilt. Under sharia it is first and foremost identity politics. Whether or not you are muslim determines the extent to which you can expect something akin to rational justice. And then the court procedure determining your guilt would not reflect the rules of evidence or burden of proof that a Western Greek-based democracy would normally offer. I would rather live in a nation where O.J. Simpson walks free, for example, than where at any time anyone can be killed by the state for an unsubstantiated accusation of blasphemy.
‘Unusually violent attack’
Scotland Yard added the suspect struck shortly before 02:00 BST on Sunday and a hammer had been recovered from the scene.
Det Ch Insp Andy Chalmers said: “This was an unusually violent attack on three women and I am very keen to speak with anyone who was in or around the hotel between 01:00 and 02:00 on Sunday morning.”
All three victims were from the United Arab Emirates and in their 30s, police said.
The men were working for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the UN confirmed.
The above linked BBC report goes out of its way to mention that this has nothing to do with Boko Haram’s quest for a sharia state in Nigeria. However some easy googling reveals that the cattle farmers who are being slaughtered in masses are Christian and the killers are muslim. It also bears mentioning that stealing cattle belonging to Christians in Bangladesh by Muslims is a common event and certainly part of a greater jihad against the infidel, in as much as the founder of Islam created his entire cult on stealing from non-believers to the extent that we should in fact refer to him as, ‘The Pirate Redbeard‘ as opposed to ‘The Prophet Mohamed’. From linked article above:
The unrest is often seen as sectarian in nature since Fulanis are Muslim and the communities with which they are in conflict in central Nigeria’s “Middle Belt” – where the country’s mostly Christian south and Muslim north meet – tend to be Christian.
Sadly, the media seems too willfully stupid or seemingly colluding with a pro-islamic narrative to recognize the basic difference between an isolated incident and a policy.
