    Afghan bomb kills Logar governor Jamal in mosque (BBC, Oct 15, 2013)
    “The governor of Afghanistan’s Logar province has been killed in a blast in a mosque, during prayers for the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha.

    Arsala Jamal was standing at the front of the mosque greeting worshippers when a bomb hidden under a table detonated.

    At least 15 people were injured, and several are said to be in a critical condition, Mr Jamal’s spokesman said.

    Logar is south of the capital, Kabul, and the Taliban increasingly control much of the countryside…”

  2. Russia Busts Terror Attack Plot on Chemical Facility in Kirov

    Russia has foiled a deadly terror attack at one of its chemical facilities which could have killed “hundreds of people”, officials in Moscow said.

    Russian officials have apprehended two Islamic extremists, who have been planning to launch an attack on the chemical storage facility in the central Kirov region.

    While taking the men into custody, authorities have found extremist texts, a large cache of home-made explosives and fake passports.

    It is unclear when the suspects were detained. The investigators have not released their names.

    The chemical facility in Kirov stores tonnes of poison gases such as VX, sarin and Soman for disposal.

  3. UK – Failed asylum seeker in burka deportation battle: Father says he and his daughter, 11, cannot be sent to France because she wouldn’t be allowed to wear islamic dress

    The father, 42, who cannot be named for legal reasons, says the pair will face religious persecution and even imprisonment if his daughter wants to fully express her religious beliefs.

    He told immigration officials the girl would ‘suffer’ greatly in France because she wears the niqab.

    He said: ‘But what about my daughter’s school? She wears a cover but France won’t accept her at school. Mentally she will suffer a lot.’
