The BBC’s Charles Haviland says the police reportedly stood by as Buddhist monks attacked a Muslim shop

Several people have been injured in Sri Lanka’s capital, Colombo, when Buddhist monks led hundreds in an assault on a Muslim-owned clothing warehouse.

Buddhist monks were filmed throwing stones at the storage centre of popular garment chain Fashion Bug in a suburb of the capital on Thursday night.

Police told AFP news agency that forces had been deployed to guard the area.

The attack comes as hard-line Buddhist groups step up a campaign against the lifestyles of Muslims.

The government’s Minister for Justice Rauff Hakeem, himself a Muslim, urged the prime minister to call an urgent cabinet meeting to discuss the security of Muslims following these attacks.

  1. Richard I have it on good authority that this group is not fascist and nor is it like GD in Greece. It is a perfectly decent group of people concerned with preserving Italian/Christian heritage from the consequences of mass immigration.

  2. I didn’t mean to imply that they were fascists, sorry if anyone took it that way, they are nationalist and some of them will be socialist to one degree or another but fascism is much more, so far these groups are more like the resistance in WWII then anything else in history.

  3. “The BBC’s Charles Haviland says the police reportedly stood by as Buddhist monks attacked a Muslim shop…”

The BBC would say this. After all they share sooo much with Islam, eg their love for children, their hatred for Jews…

  4. A wee taste of their own Medicine, give em’ more Medicine, the only thing wrong with giving them Medicine is that is does’nt cure brain dammage.

  5. Wow, Myannmar (Burma) now Sri Lanka. It seems Buddhists are having their “I’m mad as Hell and I’m not going to take it anymore” moment. Well, it must be bad if Buddhist monks are pissed off! Rightly so. Muslims are a curse to the entire human race.

Having said that, I do realise Buddhism isn’t exactly the “peaceful ethos” so many non-Buddhists seem to think. There are various forms of Buddhism, Zen Buddhism for example, was popular among East Asia’s warrior class. This is not a criticism of Buddhism on my part, after all, i’ve been a soldier for the past 22 years, and frankly, I’m glad they’re pissed! It means they are thinking, feeling human beings like the rest of us, sick and tired of islam’s supremacist, arrogant and destructive ways, and it’s treatment of the non-muslim as an inherently lesser being.

Now only if Thailand and other states with muslim issues would get amped to this level.

  6. It is “remenisant of the 1930s Nazi Germany” – strange, I don’t remember the Jews fighting back and attacking the Nazi headquarters..

  7. No but they did a real good job in the Warsaw ghetto upraising, a handful of men with a handful of guns fought so hard the German commander was ask if his after action report was praising the Jews or condemning the Germans.

  8. So now the BBC equates those mean awful monks as being like the nazis of 1930’s Germany. Who does the BBC serve? The British need to start a campaign to no longer allow their tax dollars go on supporting the BBC.

  9. Richard, that is a spot-on observation. Nobody should ever underestimate the fighting meddle of either a Jew or a Pole when their back is against the wall.
