(Reuters) – Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott has a message for New York gun owners: Come to Texas, and bring your guns with you.

“Texas is better than New York, and New York just gave us another excuse to say that,” Abbott, a Republican, said on Thursday, after ads extolling Texas appeared on several media websites.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, signed sweeping gun-control legislation earlier this week expanding the state’s ban on assault weapons and putting limits on ammunition capacity in the wake of last month’s school shootings in Connecticut.

Abbott, a possible candidate for governor of Texas in next year’s election, used campaign money to buy ads on websites of news organizations in New York City and Albany.

  1. It’s good news in a way, as it shows that despite the Obamafication of certain States and the pending attack on the 2nd Amendment, some States just won’t be playing ball. This statement has not come from a casual NRA member, but an attorney General. I hope that other freedom-loving states join in. I would like to see Obama’s attempts to destroy the U.S. constitution humiliated by more things like this.

  2. Bob there are over half of the states that have or are in the process of making it illegal to enforce any new federal gun laws, and over 200 county sheriffs (at the last count I saw) have sworn to die before they will allow any type of enforcement of new gun laws in their counties.

  3. Please don’t come NYers. You’ll only vote Democrat and turn Texas into a hell hole like the one you are fleeing.

  4. Sorry to disappoint you Les, but I personally am aware of local NY’ers who are seriously contemplating making this transfer to Texas (definitely not Austin) in the near future. These good folks would be leaving one of the deep red districts in NYS. Each of them are registered and active Conservative Republicans as well as life long members of the NRA.
