Genetic determinism, diversity and a potential for a new totalitarianism

According to ABC News, “Geneticists have been asked to study the DNA of Adam Lanza, the Connecticut man whose shooting rampage killed 27 people, including an entire first grade class.”

This is clearly the first stage towards a new kind of ‘genetic determinism’ and one whose results are quite likely predictable. The two things that come to mind immediately are firstly, selective enforcement of information yielded through genetic research when it comes to behavioral indicators. Politics and fashion will determine which avenues may or may not be studied, as the consequences of this information will likely lead to the second area of concern.

A good example of selective enforcement is the work of Bruce Lahn, a geneticist of note in the US who has discovered a gene responsible for the development of civilization. He observed that the distribution of this gene occurs wherever civilization occurs and does not where it doesn’t (and likely the moment an outside civilizing force leaves, it no longer continues.) His work was deliberately terminated, not because it wasn’t valid or of meaningful consequence but because it actually was. Only truths that fit a political narrative are to be explored.

But why?

In my world, which is a classically liberal one, all people are equal before the law. This should not change because of a person’s genetics or genetic proclivities. We must assume that all people are capable of free will, or our entire social structure falls apart. And there are worse consequences as well. It is reasonable to use genetic information to better treat a medical condition, as is common now using ethno-pharmacology for example. Yes people from different gene pools will respond differently to different kinds of medications and will have different maladies to a degree. So this is empiricism, and none of us should have any problems with that.

However, once you start making behavioral determinations you have, among other problems, the issue of pre-crime and the issue of selectively enforced pre-crime. Let’s say they do find a gene which they decide is responsible for this school shooting. Well, we already know that the more horrible a crime the more pressure on authority to ‘do something’ about that crime even if the actual perp is dead. We see that now on the rabid advocates of gun control determined to punish political foes for the crime of someone wholly alien to them.

But what will be done if that gene is found? Thanks to massive public pressure we know that ‘nothing’ is not an option, as this would allow the notion of free will and personal responsibility to remain important variables in social calculus, so it wouldn’t be allowed to stand. We will have to treat it as a medical condition or those who posses it as pre-criminals, limiting their options and freedoms etc.

The first option is potentially worse than the second, and this is where I step out on to the thinner ice.

For those who have seen the film made to conclude the TV science fiction series, ‘Firefly’, called, ‘Serenity’, a massive civilization had experimented with methods for more fully domesticating humans and the results were less than desired. To avoid spoiling some very entertaining video I will skip the details. But the point of it was that genuine human diversity may have value that is not immediately apparent and its removal and consequent uniformity may create weaknesses and vulnerabilities that are not just genocidal, but actual extinction events. Which brings me to the second issue.

Imagine if Winston Churchill’s well documented manic depression had been treated with even today’s pharmacology. Would we have won WW2? Would we even have fought it at all from England or North America? The people I have met who became aware of the issue of Islam and its consequences to Western civilization, and were willing to speak about it, have, for the most part, been eccentrics. The more centrist people tend to keep any opinion that is not with the herd to themselves. None of them will be able to help preserve their own culture until the majority opinion or the fashionable one starts to bend towards self pride and cultural preservation and away from the cultural Marxism we have all been inculcated with. This cultural Marxism uses the term ‘diversity’ as a mantra, chanting it whenever it can be used to erode classical civilization. But in fact diversity is anathema to the communist-socialist political narrative. Really they want utter and total conformity for humanity in order to achieve utopia, as communism has always done, reveling in mass exterminations from the National Socialist industrial-slaughter of all non-conformists in Germany to the International Socialists and Chinese socialists starving to death of tens of millions of people.

And this is why there is a sudden rush to study this criminals DNA.

To eradicate it.

  1. This is shocking. Imagine if someone wanted to carry out DNA tests on different races to see if ethnic minorities were more likely to commit crimes or were in some way inferior, or if genetic tests were carried out on homosexuals to see if there was a gene responsible for their sexuality. The Left would cry out in anger!
Yet, in a typical Leftist hypocritical fashion, they would have no qualms about using genetic manipulation to fulfil their own agendas. Why are they checking the DNA of Adam Lanza and not the late stinky Yasser Arafat, or Abu Qatada or any other Muslim terrorist for that matter?
