Re: #2 Live Science. You don’t need the latest genetic research to know that as the history is quite clear on the matter. Though people tend to say “No one knows when the first gypsies left India or, indeed, why”. That’s just not true and never was. (maybe that ignorance is from the time (as far back as the ancient 1990’s) when we had to allocate hours or days or even weeks to go to a library and engage in dedicated research just to answer the simplest question).
The Gypsies fled northern india (now pakistan) during the muslim invasions of Mahmud of Ghazni (AD 971-1030). So ya they were fleeing the musilm genocide of the hindus.
Some historians have misscharicterized it as being an interregnum inbetween muslim invasions but Mahmud was muslim and he invaded so it was obviously not “inbetween” muslim invasions.
