Dearborn — Everywhere Khalil Fareed goes, he wears a kufi, a religious headdress that reflects his Muslim faith.
In May, as he appeared as a witness in 36th District Court, Fareed said two security officers told him he would have to remove the garment or leave.
Fighting what he says was a violation of his religious rights, Fareed, an African American Muslim from Detroit, filed a complaint Thursday in U.S. District Court against G4S Secure Solutions, the company that employs the court officers.
“This is very unfortunate if you consider we are a nation of immigrants,” said Fareed’s attorney Nabih Ayad. “We are a nation that tolerates religion in every aspect, in every form.”
The Florida-based security company is an independent contractor for the 36th District Court, Ayad said.
During the May 4 incident, Judge Marylin Atkins had not yet taken the bench when Fareed, a real estate professional, said he entered the courtroom to appear as a witness in a tenant/landlord dispute that involved a friend.
Fareed said that when a female security officer told him he had to remove his kufi, he explained that he wears it for religious reasons.
He said the officer replied that she did not care and that he had to remove it or leave.
Sorry to play “devils advocate” here, but would the same thing be done to a Jew and his kippah?
It seems these days Muslims are using Jewish rights as precedents (Sharia Courts-Beth din, Halal slaughter- Kosher slaughter) Have Jews been made the 5th column/thin end of the wedge?
I was wondering the same thing actually. It deserves a real analysis.

The question about the Jew’s being the edge of the wedge is a good one, I don’t know the answer but we do need to know the answer.
According to a Japanese revert, “the hijab reminds people who see it that God exists, and it serves as a constant reminder to me that I should conduct myself as a Muslim. Just as police officers are more professionally aware while in uniform, so I had a stronger sense of being a Muslim wearing my hijab”. ‘Revert’ not ‘convert’ coz every human were born into islam but the environment changes one faith. Wearing the hijab soon became spontaneous, albeit purely voluntary. No human being could force me to wear it; if they had, perhaps I would have rebelled and rejected it. However, the first Islamic book I read used very moderate language in this respect, saying that “Allah recommends it (the hijab) strongly” and since Islam (as the word itself indicates) means we are to obey Allah’s will I accomplished my Islamic duties willingly and without difficulty, Alhamdulilah.
The hijab reminds people who see it that God exists, and it serves as a constant reminder to me that I should conduct myself as a Muslim. Just as police officers are more professionally aware while in uniform, so I had a stronger sense of being a Muslim wearing my hijab. My hijab made me happy; it was both a sign of my obedience to Allah and a manifestation of my faith. I did not need to utter beliefs, the hijab stated them clearly for all to see, especially fellow Muslims, and thus it helped to strengthen the bonds of sisterhood in Islam.
Muslims are accused of being over-sensitive about the human body but the degree of sexual harassment which occurs these days justifies modest dress. Just as a short skirt can send the signal that the wearer is available to men, so the hijab signals, loud and clear: I am forbidden for you.
Practising Muslims, whether those born in Muslim families or those reverted to Islam, choose Islam rather than the illusory freedom of secular life. If it oppresses women, why are so many well-educated young women in Europe, America, Japan, Australia, indeed all over the world, abandoning liberty and independence and embracing Islam?
A person blinded by prejudice may not see it, but a woman in hijab is as brightly beautiful as an angel, full of self-confidence, serenity, and dignity.

IH what you are doing with all these demands, many are not even worth the time of day is to turn people against your cult. People are just sick and tired of how your feelings are hurt yet you mutilate girls, hang gays, treat women as cattle, see non muslims as third class citizens and on and on. Let me tell you that you, muslims offend me every time I see them, hear them. You offend common decency, you offend compassion, you are an offensive poeple. If there was a god and he saw how you treat people he would be horrified.

The very fact that moslems need their god to tell them how to behave, sickens me. It is not surprising that moslems need their islamic head covering to remind them to behave morally,
Tom Jefferson & Eeyore the kippah is far too small to hide anything underneath of….not to mention which one of the 2 would be more likely to hide something under their headpiece and enter into a “holy” (unforbidden) place, like a mosque (where they store weapons).
