Bangkok Post:

102 separatist incidents in the deep South

A total of 102 incidents of unrest struck the four southern border provinces on Friday morning, Internal Security Operations Command (Isoc) deputy spokesman Pramote Prom-in said.

Col Pramote said bombs and suspicious objects were planted in many areas, and insurgents were thought to be to blame. Thai flags were also burned and Malaysian flags hoisted to mark the 55th anniversary of the founding of the Bersatu separatist movement, an umbrella group active in the far South, and Malaysia’s National Day, Aug 31.

There were 44 incidents in eight districts of Narathiwat, 34 in Yala’s Muang, Yaha and Bannang Sata districts, 12 in Pattani’s Muang and Yarang districts, and another 12 in southern Songkhla.

Security officers were able to dismantle most of the bombs, but six soldiers were injured by explosions in different areas of Narathiwat this morning, he said.

“We believe the culprits wanted the incidents to make headlines and they chose to act on Aug 31, which coincides with the national day of Malaysia and the anniversary of the Bersatu’s establishment,” Col Pramote said. “They [the insurgents] wanted to arouse their followers in the region.”

He said the insurgents were trying to generate hatred and distrust between the people of the two neighbouring countries by burning Thai flags and raising Malaysian flags.

However, Thailand and Malaysia will continue to have a good relationship and these incidents will not cause  conflict, he added.

  1. Easy solution: Partition Malaysia & Thailand. All non Muslims in Malaysia head north & are given Thai citizenship. All Muslims in Thailand can head south & take ownership of the house that the non Muslims vacated.

    Perfect.

Granted the Malays will no longer have a tiger economy but they have Islam to give them comfort.

  2. The only problem is the Moslems are trying to follow the orders of Mohammad and conquer the world, they are spreading Islam with fire and sword, they won’t willingly leave any nation.

  3. Brecher and expert on war explains:

Southern Thailand is one of those places where ethnic plates are squeezing like the San Andreas Fault. Look at Thailand on a map and you’ll see it’s like an apple with a worm dangling down from it. The big apple is the Thai heartland, the river valley where the ethnic Thais grow their rice. The worm dangling down from it is the Malay Peninsula. This insurgency is happening at the very bottom, at the Malay border. The insurgents are Malays, not Thais. Different culture, different religion — Muslims, not Buddhists like the Thais.

As they pushed their borders south, down the Malay Peninsula, the Thai kings ran up against the Muslim kingdom of Pattani, and they’ve been trying to hang on against local rebels ever since. That’s what we’re seeing now: another flare-up of a war that’s been going on for centuries.

The Thais are doing the only thing they can by killing anybody they think is in on the insurgency, because frankly, you can’t kill off these Muslim rebels with kindness (and money) the way they did the other rebellions, the Commie-inspired rebellions in the North.

We’re going to see a long, slow grind of the ethnic plates in Southern Thailand.

  4. As for the partition idea I think with muzzies we must never surrender. Take over their land and brainwash them out of Islam. Be ruthless as possible. It is for their own good. They will thank you once they are free.

  5. @ Don….You’ll never be able to “brainwash them out of islam”. The majority will have to either be barricaded into one area or……….you get the picture.

  6. Islam is a very controlling religion, like many manipulative eastern originated religions. They control their closeknit islamic community via their religion. I guess one of the reason that they would never leave their religion is because they believe in the grandeur of their islamic past. Even if some of them leave their religion, they still belong to a culture that is very different and one that exists mostly in the Middle East, Asia and Africa..
