Scene from ‘The Remains of the Day’

In my opinion, the importance of this scene cannot be overestimated as to its relevance to the worlds current condition. It is truly prophetic. One wishes and hopes the US administration today are not the very amateurs the actor playing the US ambassador to England before WW2 refers to, and warns about. The scene is a dinner at a British nobleman’s mansion where the various powers of Europe are meeting to discuss allowing the Germans to rearm after the Treaty of Versailles forbade them from so doing. The Germans have them all fooled as the nation of peace.
