1. Russian armored columns said to capture key Ukrainian town

Russian forces in two armored columns captured a key southeastern coastal town near the Russian border Thursday after Ukrainian forces retreated in the face of superior firepower, a Ukrainian military spokesman said.

The two Russian columns, including tanks and armored fighting vehicles, entered the town of Novoazovsk on the Sea of Azov after a battle in which Ukrainian army positions came under fire from Grad rockets launched from Russian territory, according to the spokesman, Col. Andriy Lysenko.

2. Italy: Calderoli Says He Needs ‘Exorcist Against Kyenge Hex’

(ANSA) – Milan, August 26 – Deputy Senate Speaker Roberto Calderoli said he needs an exorcist to lift a hex placed on him by the father of MEP Cecile Kyenge, Calderoli told Oggi weekly in an interview, excerpts of which were published Tuesday. Calderoli, who is from the anti-immigrant Northern League, last year likened Kyenge – who was Italy’s first black cabinet member at the time – to an orangutan, triggering a criminal probe that currently sees him facing charges of defamation aggravated by racial hatred and discrimination.
Since then, Calderoli has undergone six operations, been twice in intensive care, broken two ribs and two fingers, and his mother died, Calderoli told Oggi weekly in the interview to be published Wednesday.
The run of apparent bad luck culminated with the discovery of a two-meter snake in his kitchen last week.

(Maybe he should hire a Gypsy. Italy has some of those, doesn’t it?)

3. Islamic State claims to have executed 200 Syrian troops, shot down a helicopter in Iraq

THE Islamic State has released pictures it claims shows the execution of 200 Syrian soldiers after the capture of a key military air base earlier this week.

4. Al Qaeda magazine hints of looming attack; urges bombing of Vegas, military targets

A new English-language Al Qaeda magazine features a how-to article on making car bombs and suggests terror targets in the United States, including casinos in Las Vegas, oil tankers and military colleges, and implies that an attack is imminent.

5. Canada’s economic growth better than expected, nearing 3% by June 2014

(It may be worth pointing this out to people thinking of voting Liberal or NDP in the next election. Especially when you compare Canada to the rest of the world. Ontario debt not withstanding, which is a Liberal made problem)

6. Ohio: School on lockdown after Muslim threatens to murder children over Israel-Hamas conflict

Hamas savagery comes to the U.S.: “He identified himself as ‘Mohammed Shehad’…My sense is that due to the way he identified himself it sounds like he was upset at Israel.” Or this could simply be an attempt to “strike terror into the hearts of the enemies of Allah” (Qur’an 8:60), or even a jihad-chic hoax.

  1. #1 Since it takes a lot of time and training to get tank crews to maneuver and fight as a unit I will believe the reports that this is a Russian military unit that is part of an invasion force. When I was in the Army they said it took 1 year of training to bring a unit into combat ready condition.

#4 It is simply a matter of time before they manage another big attack inside the US, with our southern border wide open God alone knows all of what they have brought into the US.

#6 I hope they catch the SOB.

  2. GOLAN – Syria crisis: Rebels seize border crossing with Israel in the Golan Heights

Syrian rebels, including fighters from an al-Qa’ida-linked group, have seized control of a frontier crossing with Israel in the Golan Heights after heavy clashes with President Bashar al-Assad’s forces, activists and rebels said.

The capture of the post along Syria’s de facto border in the Golan held more symbolic than strategic value, but rebels said it would provide relief to nearby villages under siege by government troops.

The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said an array of rebel fighters, including from the al-Qa’ida-linked Nusra Front and the Western-backed Free Syrian Army, took the crossing after heavy fighting that left at least 20 Syrian soldiers and an unknown number of rebels dead. There were also clashes in the towns of Jaba, Tal Kroum and Rawadi in Quneitra province.

  3. 6/ “My sense is that due to the way he identified himself it sounds like he was upset at Israel,” though the individual’s exact motivations remain unclear, Phalen said. At this point, authorities “really don’t know what his frame of mind was or what he was thinking.”

    don’t ya luv it?

    • I had to stop because I’m beginning to understand some of what they’re saying.
I’ll check this out on Israeli sites.

  4. Hamashole Ismail’s Unwell

Senior Hamashole Ismail Haniyeh has reportedly been rushed to hospital shortly after emerging from hiding during Operation Protective Edge. The exact cause is not known.
Here are the latest odds for what happened:
16-1: Scalp condition caused by contaminated shampoo
12-1: Bad hangover (the guys got carried away at their “victory” celebration toga party)
8-1: Old soccer injury flaring up
5-1: Food poisoning caused by a bad batch of Zionist Dairy Products of Death.TM
2-1: Terrible rash caused from soiling his panties
Whatever the cause, I’m sure Haniyeh’s happy he’s getting the best possible care.
    Well, second best possible care.

  5. Islamic State militants blew up three oil installations in northern Iraq early Thursday, according to Iraqi Kurdish forces,

    • Isis militants have set fire to three oil wells in northern Iraq as they were forced to retreat by advancing Kurdish forces.

The Isis (also known as Islamic State) fighters ignited the wells before deserting the Ain Zalah Field, which was overrun in early August. A massive offensive has been launched in the area by Kurdish peshmerga forces causing the retreat of Sunni fighters.

IS fighters control a few marginal oil fields in Iraq’s north, which are nonetheless sufficient to fund the group’s activities according to analysts.

By June 2014, the Islamic State controlled all the main oil fields in eastern Syria, as well as the major gas fields. According to a Carnegie Endowment report, Syria’s oil producing regions were generating up to $50m in monthly revenue for the group.

The group has made attempts to seize the Baiji oil refinery which once supplied some 50% of Iraq’s demand for refined petroleum products. According to some, however, even if it falls into IS hands the refinery would be difficult to operate without technical staff.

Also, the majority of the country’s crude production is in the southern regions of Iraq, which produces 75% of the country’s crude oil.

Iraq is the world’s seventh-largest oil producer with 3.3 million barrels per day in April, according to an Opec report.
