Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.
This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

Yesterday I posted a disturbing documentary in Reader’s about the Red Chinese Social Credit System. All indicators suggest we are in for the same treatment. Onerous legislation scheduled in the Canadian Parliament will strangle individual autonomy. Big Brother is coming here, too, but he is missing the computing power to do the job right. Some will argue he is already here. After watching that documentary I will counter that you ain’t seen nothing yet.
Every people, every culture, every demographic slice of life contains rebels and sheep. Recalcitrance is an American virtue, while in communist China compliance is widely regarded as equally virtuous. Of course, we have in our own culture many who rationalize state overreach as a necessary–no mandatory–part of societal efficacy. From no quarter will you hear this more than from power-worshipping politicians and apparachiks. And special women, known sarcastically in North America as “Karens”, came to prominence during the pandemic as governmental social-credit proxies.
I can almost hear the conversation between regional manager Canadian PM Mark Carney speaking with President Xi:
Xi: “You must gain more control over your dissidents!”
Carney: “But Mr. President, we must be patient and go more slowly lest we reveal our intentions too quickly. We are debanking more and more, but twenty percent of our population is difficult to deal with, whereas history shows the Chinese behavior to be more hive-minded.”
Xi cannot argue the point because he knows it to be true. Any casual observer sees the Chinese are more willing to subortinate to the collective. Mask-wearing Asians were a conspicuous feature in the Canadian landscape even before Covid infected weak-minded, fear-addled Canadians eager to virtue signal compliance to state-sponsored scientism.
Another salient Chinese attribute that has contributed to its communist authority’s success has been its incredible ability to steal intellectual property from Western sources. In fact, we can posit that theft is the single greatest invention in a culture that cannot tolerate creativity. While the Chinese greatly admire, and wish they had the West’s creative drive, they understand that the dark flip side of this characteristic is individualism, rebelliousness and, well, a segment of the population that is too risky to allow to exist untethered. Free thinkers breed contempt for authority. Even if the Chinese mind is capable of the kind of aberrant neurological misfires that result in earth-shattering innovation, such capabilities are better suppressed domestically while gathered from abroad.
It is for these reasons that I have concluded that, while it is yet another creation of Western synapses, artificial intelligence is a shoe that more perfectly fits the Red Chinese foot. It contributes nothing new, it efficaciously collates data and individuals into the collective, it is a superior control tool and any and all aspirations to real sentience are pure fantasy. How deliciously Red Chinese.
Ironically, in the end the Maoists ripped-off their own geist from their enemy’s work shop. So bereft of creativity are they that it did not even occur to them to rebrand it for a little camoflage. Nope, they had to name it Skynet, purloined from the Arnold Blacksmith movie Terminator. For such an industrious people their dearth of creative energy is beyond (fittingly) imagination.
In the spirit of reciprocity I offer this idea to the dissident Chinese sci-fi writer, if a single one exists in that population of 1.4 billion souls:

Putin’s Latin America Gambit
While the world watches Russia’s military movements on the Ukraine border, Vladimir Putin has been busy building leverage in Latin America. The recent arrival of 68 Russian military “technicians” and advisors to Venezuela in January precipitated the mobilization of the Maduro regime’s military forces to the Apure State, near the border, opposite Colombia’s Arauca province.
Moscow’s ambassador in Bogota assures President Ivan Duque that the Russian military presence in Venezuela does not threaten Colombia, nor will the Russian weapons systems fall into the hands of illicit actors and terrorists operating on the border. A promise that will be difficult to keep considering the close ties between Venezuela’s Maduro regime and illegal armed groups and civilian militias.
