Reader’s Links for August 27th, 2025

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

For those interested, please check out https://vladtepesblog.substack.com/ as an another avenue of expression. The Substack is a different project in a sense. It is older videos that in the light of subsequent events, look different or of increased importance, Check it out now and again if you like.

  1. 2. I swear I posted this comment this morning on today’s Reader’s, and it appeared in yesterday’s:

…So I stuck out my thumb and decided to hitchhike. It was warm and sunny and I could go anywhere. Why not Berlin?

Within a half-hour a sky-blue convertible Porsche 911 pulled up. It was driven by beautiful blonde-haired woman. “Where are you headed?” she asked in her thick German accent. She was smoking a cigarette. Everything about her seemed to be just as free as me.
    “Berlin, I guess.”
She laughed a laugh both earnest and dark. “Do you know where you now are?”
“I am in Canada,” I answered, a little bit confused.
“Berlin is everywhere!” the woman said, laughing again as she threw her head back, hammering the throttle. The tires of her Porsche squeeled as she took off. “We are all Berliners!” she shouted as her car raced away.

    • What One Girl’s ‘Scotland the Brave’ Moment Tells Us About the UK
      By Tom Knighton | 4:29 PM | August 27, 2025
      Tom Knighton

There’s always been a certain perception in some circles that Europe is ahead of the United States in so many ways. Even if it’s just in the arts or style, people often look to Europe as the epicenter of so many things. While that’s not always untrue, two of the big cases where it is happen to be on the topic of gun control and dealing with crime.

This was brought to life recently by a 14-year-old girl named Mayah Sommers.

You’ve probably seen her, but just in case you haven’t, here’s her making a stand.

Here’s what happened before the cameras started rolling.

On a Saturday evening in Dundee’s St Ann Lane, police were called after reports of a girl wielding a bladed weapon.

According to witnesses, the confrontation involved migrants who had allegedly been harassing her, with one reportedly recording the encounter. Police Scotland later confirmed that a 14-year-old girl was charged and would be reported to the authorities.

Yet instead of condemnation, Sommers’ arrest ignited fury online. Critics argued that a child should never have to resort to carrying weapons to feel safe. In modern Britain, however, pepper spray and even basic self-defence tools are illegal, leaving vulnerable young women with no legal means of protection.
Europe’s Protection Failure: A Brutal Reality

The episode has come to symbolise what many call a systemic failure across Europe: the inability, or unwillingness, of authorities to shield their own citizens, particularly young girls, from migrant crime.

The outrage echoes beyond Scotland, with commentators framing the event as a glaring sign of Europe’s broken system.

‘Our societies have failed them,’ one viral comment read, while others blasted the European establishment for being more concerned with policing “racism” than tackling the root causes of assault threats.

Sommers has now been dubbed “Queen of Scots,” and not for nothing. She’s being hailed across the internet as just that, as well as other things. Some have likened her to Boudicca, the British warrior queen who fought the Romans. Others have just presented her like Eowyn from Return of the King, standing before a wounded King Theoden.

      It’s all pretty based, though.

As noted in the above-quoted section, the confrontation wasn’t out of the blue. The girl and her younger sister were being harassed by a group of “migrants,” the same kind of which have been accused of making up grooming and rape gangs throughout the British Isles.

When these people get caught, though, they’re often given slaps on the wrist because apparently, their culture didn’t realize that raping young girls was wrong. This has been going on for quite some time, and it’s freaking disgusting.

Yet also as noted, people are denied even less lethal self-defense tools. People can’t protect themselves from violent gangs, yet the government will not protect them, either.

They’re too busy arresting people for X posts, after all.

The United Kingdom decided a while back that people would be denied the means of protecting themselves. They tripped over themselves to ban anything and everything they can that might be used by a bad guy, which also tends to mean anything that can be used to protect oneself. They’ve created a culture of victimhood.

I don’t want to condone a 14-year-old girl carrying around weapons with the intention of hurting people, but I damn sure get it. Someone has to do something, and the British government won’t. They’re charging Sommers, while the men who harassed her and put her into a position where she felt she had to draw steel seem to be getting away with it. I don’t want to condone it, but what other choice did she really have?

Now, the young girl is a rallying point in a fight that goes beyond her protecting herself and her sister from potentially being raped.

Maybe, just maybe, things will change to the point that rapists get chopped up or, preferably, shot. If their cultures don’t realize rape is wrong, then it’s up to the British people to make sure they at least learn it’s not worth the risk.

And it’s taking a 14-year-old girl to show them the way.

Editor’s note: While we’re not in the same boat as the UK, anti-gun and pro-illegal immigration forces desperately want us to end up in the same place.

  3. If Not for Double Standards on Crime, Democrats Would Have No Standards at All
    By Tom Knighton | 8:29 AM | August 27, 2025

Crime is a major problem in many of our largest cities, and even a lot of the midsize ones. There’s a reason President Donald Trump called in the National Guard and took over law enforcement in the District of Columbia.

There’s also a reason he’s floated the idea of doing it in other cities, too.

But while Democrats have been screaming bloody murder about it, it’s important to remember that they have a pronounced double standard when it comes to crime. That’s something that came up at America’s 1st Freedom.

On August 25, President Donald Trump (R) signed a sweeping executive order aimed at dismantling cashless bail in Washington, D.C. He also warned other jurisdictions that rely on the practice that they could face the loss of federal funds.

“I will crack down on the Left-wing jurisdictions that refuse to prosecute dangerous criminals and set loose violent felons on cashless bail … . If you kill somebody, there’s no bond,” said the president.

The order directs federal prosecutors to take up cases in D.C. to ensure pretrial detention and instructs Attorney General Pam Bondi to identify cities that continue to maintain similar bail-free policies. The White House’s goal, in a nutshell, is to end the revolving door of crime, a move the administration says will protect ordinary citizens from violent offenders who too often return to the streets within hours of arrest.

It also highlights a broader issue: cashless bail has become a key mechanism through which violent offenders can avoid accountability, even as the gun-control Left attributes rising crime rates to the law-abiding gun owners.

For defenders of the Second Amendment, Trump’s executive order exposes the absurdities of the gun-control Left. On one hand, the far Left continues to push for tighter restrictions on the constitutional rights of lawful gun owners; on the other, it promotes cashless bail policies that release dangerous criminals back into communities.

While gun-control advocates falsely insist that firearms drive crime, their preferred “reforms” often remove accountability from the individuals who actually commit the violence. Those who want cashless bail may say they want to reduce inequities of the defendants who cannot afford bond, but the data shows that repeat offenders are disproportionately responsible for violent crime.

Now, I actually understand the arguments for cashless bail. The person hasn’t been convicted of a crime, so why are we holding them indefinitely simply because they’re poor? I understand it, and to some degree, my libertarian sensibilities actually agree with it.

However, cash bail was the norm when our Constitution was written, so it seems safe to assume that the Founding Fathers didn’t see it that way, so I’m fine with cash bail being required. Especially since the spike in violent crime that everyone has lost their mind about, which started in 2020 and has slowly trickled down, started right after so many Democrat-run cities and states did away with cash bail.

Meanwhile, as they put criminals back on the streets, they want to deprive us of our right to defend ourselves.

They empower criminals by putting them right back out on the streets, then say they’re serious about crime and to address it, they need to go after the guns.

The irony is that while many anti-gunners are pretty overt about wanting to deter people from owning guns, the best way they could possibly do that is by getting serious about crime and criminals. Most people buy their first gun because they’re worried about crime. They’re afraid their home will be broken into and their loved ones injured or worse. That’s why they get a gun.

Reduce that risk to nothingness, and what you end up with is a world where a lot of people just aren’t going to bother.

They don’t. They don’t know how to do it because too many of those criminals and their support system are core demographics for the Democratic Party.

But they’re going to keep trying to take our guns (most, anyway, because there is the odd pro-gun Democrat), because while they say they want to reduce crime, it’s kind of hard not to look at their other actions and at least think the majority of them are actually pushing gun control to help that particular demographic.

    Prove me wrong.

Editor’s Note: President Trump and Republicans across the country are doing everything they can to protect our Second Amendment rights and right to self-defense.

Richard: 29 States have Constitutional Carry and with luck the North Carolina legislature will override the Governors veto making it 30. We the People are fighting back and are winning the fights to restore the Constitution to what the Founders wanted.

    • I read that article about Roger Waters. Having avoided everything about him for so long, I didn’t realize his monstrous position on Ukraine.

He’d actually fit perfectly with the extreme faction that’s serving as “anti-retreat” operators behind Prez Z. Vicious knot-zees despised by the vast majority of Ukrainians.

German Communist Moon Of Alabama – loathsome, but lots of useful links, translated stuff:
      https://www.moonofalabama.org/2025/08/ukraine-zelenski-rejects-giving-land-as-fascists-promise-to-kill-him.html#more

He quotes a London Times interview with the Privy [“Right”] Sector leader who burned all those people alive in Odessa in 2014:

“His views on President Putin’s demand for Ukraine to cede the territory it defends in the eastern Donbas region as a precondition for possible peace are typically direct.

“If [President] Zelensky were to give any unconquered land away, he would be a corpse – politically, and then for real…
It would be a bomb under our sovereignty. People would never accept it.”

      German Communist added:
“A day before being fired as the commander of the Ukrainian army Zaluzhny took a selfie with the leader of the fascist Right Sector and commander of Right Sector brigade of Ukrainian military in front of a portrait of Nazi collaborator Stepan Bandera and the fascist OUN flag.”

      Right up Roger Waters’ alley.
I just don’t get why the UK and Vogue Magazine [!!] are promoting a guy who’s posed with a big swastika bracelet for years.

  4. Foreign Policy, premier organ of the D.C. establishment Council On Foreign Relations, is expert class treachery in a nutshell. Just look at ‘Table of Contents’ for recent articles on the “Middle East Crisis”:
