Reader’s Links for May 25, 2025

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, “black flies matter.”

Here, at my place in the bush, the black flies devour you at this time of the year. They chase you with a knife, fork and bib. Your orifice is their office, and they’re in the building. But not this year. It’s too cold.

I wonder what this year’s black fly cycle means. Will dragon flies start carrying off small children? Will the forest chickens cluck off? Will bats lose their beer bellies?

Somehow I think the cycle of life in this ecosystem will manage. Like George Carlin said, the planet will shake us off like fleas if we bug her (pun intended) too much.

I hear the grouse still beating her breast in the forest not too far away. I just saw that my loons, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Walkowiszcikoff, are out on my lake, back for another fishing season.

Anyone standing in this forest understands that we play but a small part in this wondrous scene.

Peckers of wood peck away. The ongoing battle with the cabin mice continues. I got a wolf and countless deer on a bush cam.

Anthropogenic crime-scene grifters will see things differently, though. These central-planning collectivist dine on any fleeting anomaly to push their con. Facts be damned.

I think I’ll go trout fishing now.

    • They are all in my neck of woods in droves. GRRRR Ticks mating season is usually May, but not to worry, there will be a vaccine. At some point there will be a vax for stupid methinks, or have we already been there, done that.

      • Yes, I think the stupid vaxx has been delivered. Only that one they tested thoroughly to make sure it did the trick.

        • Hey, one way or another they’re gonna get ya.
Direct energy weapons seem kinder that continually spraying the skies. What have they been spraying all winter for, other than killing trees?

    • Analysis: Iran braces for potential conflict as 5th round of US negotiations ends inconclusively

As the fifth round of negotiations between Tehran and Washington concluded in Rome, signs of progress remained elusive. Iranian state media reported on May 23 that US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steven Witkoff had left the talks prematurely…

Islamic Republic Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei struck a similarly pessimistic tone during a May 20 sermon. Khamenei asserted that the negotiations were unlikely to bear fruit and denounced US demands for zero uranium enrichment as “outrageous and excessive.”

On May 21, Kayhan, a newspaper aligned with Khamenei’s office, argued that the negotiations had failed to produce meaningful outcomes and called for a shift in policy toward “active resistance” against the United States…

Initially ambiguous, US messaging grew firmer in early May. President Donald Trump stated in a May 4 interview that he would accept nothing short of the “total dismantlement” of Iran’s nuclear program…

Iran issues escalating warnings amid Israeli threats…

Tehran is taking the threat seriously. On May 22, Araghchi described the leak as “alarming and [it] warrants immediate and serious condemnation from the UN Security Council and the IAEA.” He further warned that the regime would take “special measures” in retaliation should an attack materialize…

The United States, signaling resolve, has ramped up its regional military posture since March. Over 100 heavy transport aircraft have delivered military equipment to American bases across the Middle East. On May 19, the US deployed an additional squadron of F-15E fighter jets to Diego Garcia, bringing the total to six and complementing a prior deployment of nearly one-third of its B-2 stealth bomber fleet to that base.

    • From MEF link above:

Israel will strike Iran’s nuclear facilities within days.

This sobering conclusion emerges from the convergence of alarming intelligence assessments, failed diplomatic efforts, and lessons from this week’s Middle East Forum (MEF) war game simulation.

The Pentagon’s Defense Intelligence Agency now warns that Tehran can produce sufficient weapons-grade uranium for a nuclear device in “probably less than one week.” From Jerusalem’s perspective, this shrinking timeline leaves virtually no margin for error….

This fundamental impasse validates what we observed during the Middle East Forum’s annual policy conference in Washington, D.C., from May 19-22. Our war game simulation on Thursday, which brought together seasoned policy experts and MEF supporters to examine a Strait of Hormuz crisis, demonstrated how diplomatic failures can cascade into military action within hours.

The Iranian team exploited every hesitation, using negotiations to advance their program while mining the Strait and revealing a clandestine nuclear arsenal. Friday’s diplomatic failure in Rome suggests this pattern continues in reality.…

The operational reality is daunting. Any Israeli strike would require a week-long campaign targeting multiple sites: the Natanz enrichment complex, the deeply buried Fordow facility, Isfahan’s uranium conversion plant, and suspected weaponization sites.

Israel has methodically degraded Iran’s deterrent capabilities – Hezbollah’s rocket arsenal reportedly reduced by 80 percent, Syrian proxy networks shattered, Hamas isolated after the Gaza war. As one Israeli security official assessed, “Iran’s regional allies lie in tatters.”

Our war game simulation at the MEF conference revealed truths now playing out in real-time. When evidence of weaponized enrichment triggered action in our exercise, events spiraled from GPS disruptions and cyber-attacks to nuclear detonation within three compressed rounds.

China’s simulation role proved particularly instructive. Beijing positioned itself as both Iran’s protector and the Gulf states’ alternative security guarantor, ultimately downing an Israeli aircraft when conflict erupted. This reflects current reality: China continues supplying Iran through sanctions, purchasing discounted oil, and positioning itself to benefit regardless of outcome.

Recent U.S. Treasury sanctions revealed Chinese sodium perchlorate shipments to Iran’s missile program through Bandar Abbas—the same port that suffered a mysterious explosion in April.

Russia similarly exploits the crisis for strategic gain. While avoiding direct military involvement, Moscow upgrades Iran’s capabilities and threatens advanced S-400 air defense sales that would substantially complicate Israeli operations. Our simulation’s Russian team seized Arctic territories while others focused on the Gulf—classic strategic opportunism that mirrors Russian President Vladimir Putin’s real-world approach.…

Israeli leaders understand the price their nation will pay. Iranian missiles will target Jerusalem, Haifa, and Tel Aviv. Houthis will escalate from Yemen. Revolutionary Guard assets worldwide will activate against Israeli embassies and Jewish communities from Buenos Aires to Bangkok. The domestic front will endure casualties and psychological warfare unseen since 1973. Yet any Israeli prime minister must weigh this terrible but temporary cost against the permanent threat of a nuclear-armed Iran.…

  3. Mohamed is at it again!

Terrorism suspect’s “jihadist ideology” a possible motive in Utrecht cemetery vandalism
    https://nltimes.nl/2024/08/26/terrorism-suspects-jihadist-ideology-possible-motive-utrecht-cemetery-vandalism
Testimony from an expert in the Arabic language and culture indicated that the manner in which almost a hundred graves were vandalized at an Utrecht cemetery in May fits in with the “jihadist ideology.” Prosecutors presented more information about their case against 21-year-old Mohamed B. on Monday. The Vleuten resident is also accused separately of participating in a terrorist organization, and preparing to carry out impactful criminal acts, such as bombings.
On Monday, B. appeared at the District Court in Utrecht for the first public hearing regarding his case. In addition to the grave desecration, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) suspects B. of participating in a terrorist organization and preparing serious crimes, such as causing explosions. B. is alleged to have come close to traveling to Somalia last year to join the terrorist group, Islamic State (IS), but he was stopped by his father.
He claims he then participated in a deradicalization program, and has expressed regret for his past beliefs. B. claimed he wanted to travel to Somalia to track down IS recruiters and unmask them.
The Public Prosecution Service said it does not believe B.’s version of events, and prosecutors think B. wanted to give a different impression to the outside world. B. is said to have maintained contacts with those sharing his jihadist perspective, and he is alleged to have transferred money to organizations that adhere to that ideology.
He “scribbled” jihadist texts on the walls of his holding cell, where he is being kept in pre-trial detention, the prosecutor alleged on Monday. A co-defendant in the case has given a statement indicating that B.’s terrorist ambitions have not diminished at all.
Towards the end of that hearing, he apologized for the vandalism at the cemetery. B. was arrested shortly after the grave desecration and has been in custody ever since. He is said to have filmed the destruction of several graves. His lawyer asked the court to release B. in advance of his trial, subject to probationary conditions, so that he can continue with the treatment process. “There is sufficient guidance and control built in,” said the lawyer. She denied that the destruction of the graves was related to any terrorist ideology.
The prosecutor opposed the suspension of pre-trial detention, arguing the risk of recurrence is great. By destroying the graves, B. went from just talking about violence to actually committing it, he argued.
The court agreed, saying that B. is suspected of crimes which are too serious. The court said it would not be reasonable to put an end to B.’s pre-trial detention based on the current status of the investigation, nor would it be possible to rationally explain such a decision to the public.
    B. will therefore remain in custody at least until the next interim hearing, which is scheduled for November 18.

Two men attempt to attack suspect accused of destroying graves during hearing in Utrecht
    https://nltimes.nl/2025/05/22/two-men-attempt-attack-suspect-accused-destroying-graves-hearing-utrecht
Two men attempted to attack a suspect during a hearing at the court in Utrecht on Thursday. Officers were able to restrain the two men before they got to Mohamed B., who is accused of destroying 117 graves at the Daelwijck cemetery in Overvecht, Utrecht. The two men were removed from the court after the incident.
    B. allegedly kicked and smashed the graves with a hammer in May of last year. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) has recommended that the 22-year-old from Vleuten be given a five-year prison sentence. “The destruction saddened hundreds of people,” the prosecutor said.
There was a lack of evidence to charge B. with terrorism-related motives. A few months ago, the OM suspected B. of participating with a terrorist group and preparing severe crimes like explosions. It was reported at the time that B. almost left the country to go to Somalia to join ISIS.
    B. says that he has come to his senses after his radicalization, but according to the Public Prosecution Service, there is every reason to doubt that claim.
However, the suspect left no signs to make it clear to people that this was a part of an act of terrorism. Despite this, the OM maintained that the way in which the vandal went about his work had the characteristics of jihadist ideology.
    B. mostly targeted standing gravestones and photos of the deceased. He confessed to having vandalized around 20 graves, but the prosecutors do not believe his confession. Parts of the vandalism were filmed by B. with his phone. He shared videos of his acts online in chat groups.

  4. Bag of dog feces thrown at pro-palestinian protesters in Katwijk; Police intervene
    https://nltimes.nl/2025/05/24/bag-dog-feces-thrown-pro-palestinian-protesters-katwijk-police-intervene
A pro-Palestinian demonstration near the Katwijk town hall turned tense Thursday evening when a man threw a bag of dog feces at a small group of protesters. Police intervened immediately and led the man away from the scene, according to Omroep West.Despite the incident, the protest concluded peacefully without further disturbances or arrests.
The protest, held at 8 p.m., involved five demonstrators displaying a Palestinian flag and carrying signs with messages such as “Israel is starving children” and “Peace for all children in Israel and Palestine.”
Several dozen Katwijk residents opposed the protest, shouting phrases like “Go home, man.” One bystander also displayed an Israeli flag in opposition. Police maintained a strong presence and kept the two groups separated throughout the event.
At the protest’s conclusion, the demonstrators delivered a letter to the Katwijk municipal office. The letter demanded that Katwijk align with the call by Amsterdam Mayor Femke Halsema for the national government to hold Israel accountable. Additionally, the protesters urged the municipality to impose a boycott on products from Israel. After submitting the letter, the demonstrators left in a waiting taxi.
This protest follows recent unrest in Katwijk related to Israeli-Palestinian tensions. Last week, pro-Palestinian demonstrators were confronted during a pro-Israel Christian celebration at the Nieuwe Kerk. Several confrontations have reportedly heightened tensions in the community.
On the previous Saturday, a group gathered on the boulevard intending to oppose a rumored pro-Palestinian protest, which ultimately did not take place. After delivering speeches, the crowd dispersed without incident.
On the previous Sunday evening, despite a mayoral ban, another protest occurred near the Nieuwe Kerk. Police removed several demonstrators, but the situation remained calm afterward.

  5. Year-old news, may still be of interest:

2 May 2024 Dutch court convicts sisters tied to Islamic State; 3.5 and 2.5 year prison terms
    https://nltimes.nl/2024/05/02/dutch-court-convicts-sisters-tied-islamic-state-35-25-year-prison-terms
The sisters Amina E. and Amal E. were convicted by the District Court of Rotterdam on allegations of preparing terrorist acts, and participating with Islamic State (IS). The younger of the two, 25-year-old Amina E., was ordered to serve three and a half years in prison. Amal E., who is now 38 years of age, was jailed for two and a half years.
The crimes detailed by investigators took place between August 2014 and November 2022. The women traveled to Syria via Turkey in 2014 when Amina was only 16 years old. The sisters are among the group of 12 women who were brought back from a detention camp in Syria at the end of 2022.
They were kept there under very difficult conditions, the court acknowledged. “And that’s putting it mildly,” the presiding judge said.
This was one of the reasons the court gave a lower sentence than what the Public Prosecution Service recommended. The prosecutor called for a term of six years and four months for Amina E., and five years and four months for Amal E.
Additionally, ten months of Amina E.’s sentence can be conditionally suspended. The older sister, Amal, faces other conditions, including compliance with guidance and therapy programs after her prison sentence.
During the trial, Amina did not deny that she had lived in an area occupied by IS, and that she was married to two IS fighters. She argued that was not of her own free will. However, the court said this was not a credible defense, partly because there is no evidence supporting her claim she did not want to be there.
In fact, chats and photos show the opposite, the court said. In chats and messages on social media, Amina wrote that she supported the IS ideas and ideology, and she glorified life in the caliphate. “Of course, you were young, you were 16 years old. But that does not alter the criminality of your conduct,” the court said.
The sisters followed the verdict via a video link. Amina indicated that she was very upset about the prison sentence she was ordered to serve.

  6. How low can you go?
Four enrichers steal stuffed animals from a memorial for two children who were recently murdered in Winschoten, the Netherlands. Mayors demand urgent action on mental health–related violence
    https://nltimes.nl/2025/05/22/mayors-demand-urgent-action-mental-health-related-violence
“The mayors of Amsterdam, Utrecht, The Hague, and Rotterdam have sent an urgent letter to the Tweede Kamer warning about the increasing number of serious incidents involving people with mental health problems, RTL reports. The letter precedes a parliamentary debate on the issue scheduled for next week.
The mayors highlighted the dangerous situations caused by individuals suffering from mental confusion, sometimes resulting in deadly consequences. In February, an 11-year-old girl was fatally stabbed on the street in Nieuwegein by a man with a confused mental state. In Amsterdam in 2023, a 25-year-old man was stabbed by his mentally unstable upstairs neighbor.
