A measure introduced in the U.S. Congress on April 17 is designed to secure the Second Amendment rights of Americans who live in rental properties whose landlords receive financial assistance from the federal government.
The Preserving Rights of Tenants by Ensuring Compliance to (PROTECT) the Second Amendment Act, HR 2930, was introduced by Republican U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra of Iowa. In a nutshell, it would ensure that landlords and rental property managers cannot unlawfully restrict tenants’ firearm ownership, which is currently a common problem.
“The right of Iowans to keep and bear arms is enshrined in our Constitution and shall not be infringed,” Rep. Feenstra said in a news release announcing the legislation. “These constitutional protections must be strongly defended and certainly do not cease to exist for gun owners living in rental properties.”
Rep. Feenstra added that the measure will protect tenants in his home state of Iowa, as well as gun owners throughout the country who rent their residences.
“My PROTECT the Second Amendment Act ensures that landlords or rental property managers who receive federal financial assistance at taxpayer expense cannot unlawfully restrict Americans from exercising their constitutional rights,” he said. “As a strong advocate of the Second Amendment, I will always defend the right of Iowans to keep and bear arms and support law-abiding gun owners.”
According to Rep. Feenstra, the legislation has three main objectives. These include protecting tenants’ rights to lawfully own a firearm within federally assisted rental housing, allowing the lawful transport of firearms through common areas when entering and exiting the property and preventing property managers and landlords who accept federal assistance from prohibiting or discriminating against tenants’ constitutional right to own a firearm.
Although it was just introduced this week, the measure is already garnering support from several gun-rights groups, including the National Rifle Association (NRA). John Commerford, executive director of NRA’s Institute for Legislation Action (NRA-ILA) applauded Rep. Feenstra for introducing the much-needed legislation.
“The right of law-abiding Americans to keep firearms in their homes for self-defense has been a fundamental freedom since our nation’s founding and has been reaffirmed by the U.S. Supreme Court,” Commerford said. “No one should be forced to give up this right, especially when a landlord or property manager is receiving federal tax dollars. The NRA applauds Representative Feenstra for introducing this important legislation that protects the right to keep and bear arms.”
The measure has been referred to the House Committee on Financial Services. Rep. Feenstra proposed the same legislation last year, when Democrats controlled the U.S. Senate.

California is so lost that far-left Democrats would apparently prefer to let some children be exploited by sexual predators rather than get tough on crime.
As Breitbart reported, Democrats in the State Assembly on Monday blocked legislation that would have made the trafficking of minors a felony.
In an interesting twist, the bill is being sponsored by State Assemblymember Maggy Krell, a Democrat from Sacramento. It would apply to children aged 16 and 17.
But her colleagues have decided they want prosecutors to have discretion. Many of these prosecutors have been backed by the communist George Soros and have refused to enforce criminal laws in the name of “criminal justice reform” and “equity.”

Trump’s message after a tragic mass shooting at Florida State University was clear: defend the Constitution, even in moments of crisis.
On April 17, 2025, a deranged gunman killed 2 two people and wounded six others. The attack, which unfolded near the student union just before noon, rattled the campus and reignited fierce debate over gun policy and campus safety in Florida.
The shooter, identified as 20-year-old FSU student Phoenix Ikner, arrived at a campus parking garage around 11 a.m. and began firing a handgun outside the student union shortly before noon. Ikner chaotically moved across green spaces and buildings, firing indiscriminately. Law enforcement ultimately confronted him. After refusing to comply with law enforcement directives, he was shot and apprehended by the officers at the scene.
President Donald Trump, whose primary residence is in Palm Beach, Florida, responded swiftly to the tragedy. In his initial remarks, Trump described the shooting “a shame” and “a horrible thing,” stating, “Things like this take place. And we’ll have more to say about it later.” When pressed about the possibility of new gun control measures, Trump reiterated his unwavering support for the Second Amendment:
“Look, I’m a big advocate of the Second Amendment. I have been from the beginning. I protected it, and these things are terrible, but the gun doesn’t do the shooting. The people do. It’s a phrase that’s used probably too often.”
President Trump further emphasized, “I have an obligation to protect the Second Amendment. I ran on the Second Amendment… and I will always protect the Second Amendment.” Trump’s comments made clear that this latest shooting would not prompt him to reconsider his stance on gun rights or support additional restrictions.
The FSU shooting occurred against a backdrop of contentious debate over campus carry laws in Florida. Just three weeks before the attack, the Florida Senate Criminal Justice Committee narrowly voted down a bill (SB 814) that would have allowed concealed carry of firearms on college campuses. The bill, sponsored by Republican Sen. Randy Fine, was defeated in a 4-3 vote after Republican Sen. Ileana Garcia joined Democrats Mack Bernard, Jason Pizzo, and Carlos Guillermo Smith in opposition. Two other Republicans were absent, making Garcia’s vote decisive.
Sen. Garcia defended her vote, stating, “I have zero regret… This decision wasn’t about partisan politics; it was rooted in common sense. The incident at FSU was tragic, but the real issue lies not with the firearm itself, but with the factors that led to it.” The bill’s failure is notable in a state legislature dominated by a Republican supermajority (28-12 in the State Senate and 84-36 in the State House after the 2024 elections), further highlighting divisions even within the GOP on gun issues.
Florida already has several gun control laws on the books, including:
Ban on concealed carry and open carry of firearms on college campuses.
Minimum age of 21 for purchasing rifles and handguns[10][18].
Three-day waiting period for most firearm purchases.
“Red flag” law allowing law enforcement to temporarily seize firearms from individuals deemed to be a threat to themselves or others.
Despite these measures, the FSU shooter was able to obtain firearms and carry out the attack, violating multiple existing laws in the process.
While President Trump and many Republican lawmakers nominally remain committed to defending gun rights, the failure to pass the campus carry bill, due in part to a Republican defector, underscores ongoing divisions within the party. The FSU tragedy also raises questions about the effectiveness of current gun control laws, as existing measures did not stop the shooter from carrying out a heinous act.
As the investigation continues, the debate over how best to ensure campus safety in Florida and across the nation will certainly intensify.

Rasmussen: ‘Americans Still Buying More Guns’

While gun sales have declined from a peak in 2020-21, Americans are still buying lots of firearms, according to a Rasmussen survey.
A recent Rasmussen survey revealed what gun dealers and manufacturers already knew, and anti-gunners didn’t like hearing: Despite a downturn in gun sales, Americans are still buying guns, and for the past five years those purchases have surpassed one million per month.
This is happening despite efforts in several states to make buying guns increasingly difficult.
According to Rasmussen, 19 percent of American adults say they, or someone in their household, bought a gun in the past year. Sixty-four percent (64%) of all American Adults say the main reason most people purchase a gun is for self-defense, the veteran polling firm revealed, which says a lot about the public confidence in the ability of law enforcement to respond quickly to violent crime.
Headline news such as the reported raid on an underground nightclub in Colorado Springs, during which more than 100 people were arrested—allegedly many of them illegal aliens—and police recovered drugs and guns, might alarm more people enough to buy a firearm.

Don’t Talk to Me About Protecting Children With This Going On

“It’s for the children” has become something of a trite saying uttered by people such as anti-gunners when they are trying to push their agenda. It’s so trite that we mock it, much like how anti-gunners mock “thoughts and prayers.” We hear it so much, and on so many different issues, that it’s hard not to roll our eyes at it.

But I’m not rolling my eyes anymore. Instead, I’m pissed.
See, the people who say this expect us to believe they care about the safety of children, that the idea of protecting kids is so important that it should trump literally everything else. They cite studies that claim “gun violence” is killing kids more than anything else to try and leverage our innate desire to protect children as a way to push us to accept their premise, that gun control is a worthy goal.
Yet over the last couple of days, I’ve seen way too much to just shrug that nonsense off anymore.
Let’s start with something I wrote about over at our sister site, Townhall. Buffalo Police Department SVU Detective Richard Hy, known to many of you on YouTube as Angry Cops, unveiled a systemic problem in the Buffalo Public Schools. It seems they’re actively hiding cases of sexual assault against students. Some of those appear to be student-on-student assaults, which one might imagine the schools are trying to hide to protect themselves, but they’re also failing to report parent-on-student abuse.
I report on two examples at Townhall.
The Buffalo area went for Kamala Harris in 2024, which suggests a strong anti-gun lean in the city, which fits in a community that was ravaged by a terrible mass murder conducted by a racist piece of filth in 2022.

Plenty of people, including many teachers and administrators, think we should restrict our right to keep and bear arms in order to protect children, are actively putting kids at risk by not reporting cases of assault.
Since I wrote about it, I’ve been alerted to numerous people claiming this is also happening in their communities. The schools are refusing to report abuse, either because they’re afraid it will make them look bad or because they’re actively seeking to protect predators.
Yet I also remember the nationwide school walkout right after Parkland, where teachers were vocal supporters of both the walkout and gun control in general, and it seems at least some of them are party to this?
That’s far from the totality of the problems I’m upset about.
Kira Davis used to be an editor for our sister site, RedState. She’s a big part of how I ended up at Bearing Arms. Now, she’s on her own with her own Substack, which I subscribe to–and you should too, by the way–and this dropped in my inbox yesterday.
This week, Public Safety Committee in the Assembly took up a bill for consideration that would impose automatic felony charges for the purchasing of children for sex.
Ok. So far so good. Who could be mad about that?
Amazingly, the bill ignited an internal war among the supermajority Democrats on the committee. Some representatives wanted to exclude sixteen and seventeen year-olds from the legislation.
You read that right. California Democrats are perfectly fine with the rape and prostitution of sixteen and seventeen year-old Californians. According to Democrats, some children don’t deserve to be covered by the strongest letter of the law.
The fight lasted exactly a day. Committee Chairman Nick Schultz told reporters the provision will be stripped from the bill before it moves on. Older teenagers will not receive the same protections as other children against sex traffickers and abusers.

Now, I don’t think I need to tell you where your average California Democrat stands on gun control. I don’t think you need to really think long and hard about what percentage of them will tell you that gun control is, in part, about protecting children.
16- and 17-year-olds are children. How the hell can you include 18- and 19-year-old adults as children when it comes to counting them as child victims of so-called gun violence, using that to call for gun control to protect children, then refuse to protect actual children from being exploited?
And this is without getting into some people’s flirtations with trying to normalize pedophilia and renaming these people as “minor attracted persons” instead, and even talking about plopping them under the LGBT+ umbrella, or the issue of trying to transition children into another gender without the parents being part of the decision or, in some cases, stripping parental custody because the parent isn’t fully supportive of the transition, thus potentially damaging a child for life.
Don’t tell me you’re interested in protecting children when this is the other stuff you back.
I want to protect children by putting as many good people with guns between them and danger. I want law-abiding adults to have firearms on hand to put down the bad guys before they can hurt the kids. I’m all about protecting the children, and I recognize our right to keep and bear arms is how we do it.

The gun control group Giffords is claiming (and complaining) that Donald Trump’s policies in the first 100 days of his second term are making the country less safe, going so far as to declare him “weak on crime” and accusing him of making decisions that have “made America more dangerous.”

The Trump Administration announced news today that will no doubt displease Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy after he campaigned against President Trump last year and refuses to help bring the Russia-Ukraine War to an end.
As The Gateway Pundit previously reported, Zelenskyy joined Kamala Harris surrogate Democrat Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro for a tour of an ammunition factory in the Keystone State last September and took the opportunity to stump for the Harris campaign and attack Trump and JD Vance on American soil in an interview with a far-left media outlet.
“My feeling is that Trump doesn’t really know how to stop the war even if he might think he knows how,” Zelenskyy said.
“With this war, oftentimes, the deeper you look at it, the less you understand. I’ve seen many leaders who were convinced they knew how to end it tomorrow, and as they waded deeper into it, they realized it’s not that simple.”

On behalf of the David Horowitz Freedom Center, we are very saddened to announce the passing of the Center’s founder, David Horowitz. After a lengthy battle with cancer, David passed yesterday at the age of 86.
