Arguably the most despicable member of Congress has been caught on tape teaching illegal aliens how they can stay in America and avoid President Trump’s mass deportation efforts.
Video footage emerged today showing Rep. Ilhan Omar (Socialist-MN) recently hosting workshops with Somali residents in Minneapolis. During one of the events, she spoke to media members in her native tongue and appeared to dish out advice to illegal migrants from her country of birth.
“I advise the Somalian people that if ICE attempts to question you, you are not obligated to answer their questions,” Omar reportedly said in Somalian. “Just state that you were advised by a lawyer not to answer questions.”
“Disclosure of your name, immigration status, and mode of entry is not mandatory,” she added.

Omar went on to tell Somali illegals that they needed to take steps to educate themselves on America’s immigration laws to combat ICE better.
“Learn the laws and prepare yourself,” she said. “And refrain from disclosing information that you would prefer them not to know.”
As TGP readers may know, Jim Hoft revealed Omar’s father and other Somalian war crimes perpetrators are currently living illegally in the United States.
Omar’s father, Mohamed, and other Somalians like Yusuf Abdi Ali, who killed thousands for Barre, escaped to the West and were not appropriately vetted before entering the country. Barre was a dictator and was connected to Cuban dictator Fidel Castro as well as other dictators around the globe.
Omar is also a vile racist. A few years ago, she was caught making this racist statement against white people:

Border Czar Tom Homan announced his intention to pursue legal action against far-left New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy.
This comes after Governor Murphy boasted about harboring an illegal immigrant in his own home.
During a gathering with Blue Wave New Jersey, Governor Murphy casually disclosed the presence of an individual living above his garage, whose “immigration status is not yet at the point that they are trying to get it to.” He provocatively added, “Good luck to the feds coming in to try to get her.”
This statement is a direct challenge to federal law enforcement authorities.

I think the government is pretty foolish the same way he said because I got a note of it, won’t let it go, we’ll look into it. If he’s knowingly harboring, concealing an illegal alien, that’s a violation of Title 8 United States Code 1324, I would seek prosecution, or the secretary would seek prosecution. Maybe he’s bluffing. If he’s not, we’ll deal with that.
As far as suing sanctuary cities, we’ll get in line because the Trump administration is going to do that already. Sanctuary cities are sanctuaries for criminals.
One example is Sanctuary Cities in New York City. If they would have given us over the killer of Laken Riley when he got arrested in New York City for endangering a child, he would have been in jail. He would never have killed Laken Riley.
Sanctuary cities are responsible for the deaths of thousands, thousands of young children throughout my career. We’re going to sue them. We’re going to hold them. Look, if it’s got to go to the Supreme Court, that’s what President Trump wanted to do. He will end sanctuary cities.

The swamp is being drained once again. The Trump administration has sent shockwaves through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) by notifying over 1,000 employees that they are on the chopping block, marking a decisive step in dismantling bloated government agencies notorious for regulatory overreach.
EPA employees who have been with the agency for less than a year received an email last week notifying them that they could be dismissed immediately, according to NBC News citing sources familiar with the matter.
These employees, who are still on their “probationary” status, were bluntly informed that their tenure could end without delay at the administration’s discretion.
“As a probationary/ trial period employee, the agency has the right to immediately terminate you,” the email reads. “The process for probationary removal is that you receive a notice of termination, and your employment is ended immediately.”
The notification—rightly seen as a warning shot against entrenched bureaucrats—comes as part of President Trump’s broader push to slash wasteful federal agencies, restore accountability, and put American taxpayers first.
NBC News reported:
Nicole Cantello, the president of AFGE Local 704, another union local that represents EPA employees, said she, too, knew of several employees who were on the list but said they had more than a year of contiguous federal service.
CNN was the first to report on the email to EPA workers, which plays into a kind of whiplash for some federal employees as environmental policy pingpongs depending on which party controls the executive branch.
Cantello said the AFGE Local 704 union is “concerned the agency will conduct a mass firing of probationary employees.”
“Probationary employees are usually let go because they don’t perform well or were disciplined. We’ve never had a probationary mass firing in the 33 years I’ve been at EPA. This is unprecedented in scope and scale,” she said, adding that probationary employees have few protections.
“There will be little anyone can do about it as long as they state a reason,” Cantello said, referring to EPA leaders.
This move follows Trump’s prior efforts to downsize the government, including the buyout offers to federal employees if they resign by February 6.
The federal workers who accept Trump’s offer will receive pay and benefits through September 30.
Over 20,000 federal workers have accepted Donald Trump’s buyout offer, a senior administration official has confirmed.
Axios reports that while the number represents one percent of the federal workforce, it is still way below the White House target of between five and 10 percent.

Remember Thomas Jefferson said that Freedom requires constant vigilance of our governments. One of the things that needs to be done in all Western Nations is the schools must be required to teach civics to all students and they must be required to learn what their rights are and what the limitations on the governments are. One of the things that has allowed the left to seize so much power in the US was the way they stopped teaching history and civics in the schools. Border Czar Tom Homan joined Fox Sunday Morning Futures host Maria Bartiromo on Sunday and shared a huge update on how President Trump’s border security measures are deterring illegal immigration.
“I looked at the numbers this morning, Maria. The crossings on the border are down 93%,” Homan said. “That’s a bigger decrease than under the first Trump administration.”
Still, Homan added, “We’ve got more work to do.”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced on Monday that the number of border crossings had decreased even further by 95%.
Homan further announced that 5,000 aliens, most of whom were criminals, were arrested in the first week after President Trump took office on January 20.
In regards to so-called noncriminals who crossed the border illegally but have not been convicted of a crime, Homan says they are “arrested in sanctuary cities because you force us into the community rather than arresting the bad guy in jail.”
As The Gateway Pundit recently reported, Democrats in Illinois are preventing ICE officials from detaining illegal aliens who are in local jails and prisons and even trying to allow illegal aliens to change their names to avoid detection by ICE.
They would rather hide these criminal aliens from ICE in jail at the expense of taxpayers to later let them out and terrorize law-abiding citizens than admit that they don’t belong in our country.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt last Tuesday schooled two leftist reporters who apparently don’t know what a criminal is.
“It’s a big culture shift in our nation to view someone who breaks our immigration laws as a criminal, but that’s exactly what they are,” she said when asked repeatedly why the U.S. is deporting “those who are just in the country illegally.”
Leavitt also said last Friday, “Our message is simple: if you are a criminal illegal alien, you will be arrested and deported.”
Homan recapped the shocking change we’ve seen at our Southern Border, saying, “President Trump is the game changer.”

A Colorado Democrat who ran twice for Congress and almost defeated Lauren Boebert has ripped his party’s toxic political brand.
Adam Frisch, who almost defeated Rep. Lauren Boebert in 2022 and ran again unsuccessfully in 2024, said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal that the party’s brand was in the toilet.
The Journal reported from the election of the new chairs of the Democratic National Committee in Maryland:
All of the candidates could agree that the situation facing the party is dire.
The Democratic brand is in the toilet, with a recent Wall Street Journal poll showing 60% of Americans view the party unfavorably while only 36% see it favorably.
Democrats lost ground with nearly every demographic group last November, including minorities, women, low-income voters and those without college degrees.
“Twenty big cities, Aspen and Martha’s Vineyard—that’s what’s left of the Democratic Party,” lamented former congressional candidate Adam Frisch.
“And I’m not exactly sure those 20 big cities are getting the best version of the Democratic Party.”
Frisch, who lives in Aspen, ran in a red district in rural Colorado; he overperformed the top of the ticket but still fell short.
However, it is worth noting that Frisch has always styled himself as a moderate Democrat.
Speaking with local media ahead of the 2022 midterms, he described himself as “a pro-business, pro-energy, moderate, pragmatic Democrat” who “can build coalitions and get stuff done.”
Meanwhile, The Gateway Pundit reported that Frisch was caught having sex in a storage locker with a woman he was having an affair with.
The lurid act was reportedly caught on camera and then later used to blackmail Frisch into changing his vote on the Aspen City Council regarding an important multi-million dollar transportation project.

Former Congressman Ron Paul is calling for the agency to be audited, exposed, and ultimately dismantled.
In his weekly report titled “Audit USAID, Then Shut It Down,” Paul lays out a damning case against the agency.

USAID is a key component of the U.S. government’s regime change operations worldwide. USAID spends billions of dollars every year propping up NGOs overseas that function as shadow governments, eating away at elected governments that U.S. interventionists want to overthrow.

On his second day in office President Trump officially designated drug cartels on the southern border as terrorist organizations.
Last week Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that “all options are on the table” regarding the Mexican cartels.

Aviacionline reported Monday (in Spanish) that US authorities are using high-tech aircraft over the border to strengthen surveillance over possible illicit activities.

Aviacionline reported that maritime patrol aircraft, traditionally used in anti-submarine warfare missions, are being deployed. The aircraft are now being used for data collection and surveillance on land. These technical aircraft have high-precision radars, infrared sensors and communications interception systems that are being used over the border inside Mexico.

The planes could be monitoring to discover where the border crossings are going to be made, of they could be gathering intel for future strikes by either missiles or spec ops units. Either way they are a good sign that things are going to change on the border.

President Donald Trump announced Monday that he is demanding Ukraine provide the United States with access to its vast reserves of rare earth minerals in exchange for continued military and financial assistance.
“We’re telling Ukraine, they have very valuable rare Earth. We want what we put up to go in terms of a guarantee. We want a guarantee,” Trump told reporters from the Oval Office.
“We’re handing them money hand over fist. We’re giving them equipment. [The] European [Union] is not keeping up with us. They should equalize.”
“Look, we have an ocean in between. They don’t. It’s more important for them than it is for us. But they’re way below us in terms of money, and they should be paying at least equal.
“They should really be paying much more than us, but let’s say equal to us. And they’re billions and billions of dollars below. So we’re looking to do a deal with Ukraine where they’re going to secure what we’re giving them with their rare Earth and other things,” Trump said.

Trump’s demand signals a dramatic shift from the Biden regime’s blank-check approach, which has funneled almost $200 billion in military and economic assistance to Kyiv since Russia’s 2022 invasion—often with little oversight.
With Ukraine’s government continuing to rely heavily on U.S. aid, Trump is making it clear that there will be no more free rides under his leadership.
As of September 30, 2024, U.S. funding for the Ukraine response had reached nearly $183 billion, with $130.1 billion committed and $86.7 billion already distributed, according to Ukraine Oversight.

Ukraine possesses significant reserves of critical minerals, including titanium, lithium, beryllium, manganese, gallium, uranium, zirconium, graphite, apatite, fluorite, and nickel, according to the World Economic Forum.
These minerals are essential for various high-tech industries, such as aerospace, defense, electronics, and renewable energy.
Russian forces have already captured key mining regions in Eastern Ukraine, including much of the coal-rich Donbas. However, vast supplies of strategic minerals remain under Ukrainian control in the Dnieper River basin and the Carpathian Mountains.
The United States relies heavily on imports for many of these critical minerals, with China currently dominating the global supply chain.
Reports indicate that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had previously entertained the idea of leveraging his country’s mineral wealth to maintain U.S. military support, according to New York Post.

Trump’s FCC chief has just opened an investigation of NPR and PBS which could result in the loss of taxpayer funding for these outlets. Conservatives are cheering for this. For years now, people on the right have pointed out that National Public Radio functions like a media arm of the Democrat party.
In short, they do not deserve taxpayer funding.
George Washington University Law Professor Jonathan Turley agrees. Even though Turley is a liberal-leaning person who has appeared on NPR in the past, he acknowledges that NPR has become little more than a mouthpiece for the left.

“This is NPR.” That tagline has long been used for National Public Radio, but what it is remains remarkably in doubt. NPR remains something of a curiosity. It is a state-subsidized media outlet in a country that rejects state media. It is a site that routinely pitches for its sponsors while insisting that it does not have commercials. That confusion may be on the way to a final resolution following the election. NPR is about to have a reckoning with precisely what it is and what it represents.
While I once appeared regularly on NPR, I grew more critical of the outlet as it became overtly political in its coverage and intolerant of opposing views.
Even after a respected editor, Uri Berliner, wrote a scathing account of the political bias at NPR, the outlet has doubled down on its one-sided coverage and commentary. Indeed, while tacking aggressively to the left and openly supporting narratives (including some false stories) from Democratic sources, NPR has dismissed the criticism. When many of us called on NPR to pick a more politically neutral CEO, it instead chose Katherine Maher, who was previously criticized for her strident political views.
Some have long questioned the federal government’s subsidization of a media organization. NPR itself continues to maintain that “federal funding is essential” to its work. However, this country has long rejected state media models as undermining democratic values.

MTG-led panel plans hearing to grill NPR and PBS heads
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) on Monday called on the CEOs of NPR and PBS to testify at a ‘DOGE’ subcommittee hearing on what she described as “systemically biased content” from federally funded radio and TV organizations.
Why it matters: Greene’s hearing dovetails with a Federal Communications Commission investigation into the two broadcasters, which are longtime targets for Republican budget slashers.
Driving the news: Greene, the chair of the new DOGE subcommittee, sent letters on Monday to NPR CEO Katherine Maher and PBS CEO Paula Kerger, writing that “the subcommittee seeks to better understand” each news organization’s “position on providing Americans with accurate information.”
In letters to both CEOs, Greene wrote that the subcommittee is concerned by the two news organizations’ “blatantly ideological and partisan coverage.”
Greene asked both CEOs to testify during the week of March 3 or March 24. It’s the first hearing to be announced for the subcommittee.
Elon Musk tweeted his approval, calling it an “excellent action” by Greene.
What they’re saying: NPR in a statement Monday refuted Greene’s characterizations and said the company’s workers “constantly strive to hold ourselves to the highest standards of journalism.”
“We welcome the opportunity to discuss the critical role of public media in delivering impartial, fact-based news and reporting to the American public,” the organization said in a statement.
“We appreciate the opportunity to present to the committee how now, more than ever, the service PBS provides matters for our nation,” PBS said in a statement.
Zoom out: The new Trump administration is on the warpath against what officials say is frivolous government spending, with Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) leading the charge.
Trump has signed executive orders freezing funding for diversity and climate change programs, and has even moved to shut down the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
Brendan Carr, Trump’s new FCC chair, is probing whether PBS and NPR — which Republicans have long accused of liberal bias — violated government rules preventing commercial advertisements by listing off government sponsors on air.
Carr wrote in his letter announcing the investigation that Congress is “actively considering whether to stop requiring taxpayers to subsidize NPR and PBS” and that he does not “see a reason why Congress should continue sending taxpayer dollars to NPR and PBS.”

A Temple University student was suspended and arrested after allegedly impersonating a U.S. Immigration and Enforcement Unit (ICE) agent on the school’s North Philadelphia campus on Saturday, Feb. 1, Temple University said in a statement on Sunday, Feb. 2.
Aidan Steigelmann, 22, and two other unidentified suspects were allegedly imitating ICE agents on the school’s campus when they tried to enter. They were denied access to the Johnson and Hardwick Residence Halls just after 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, per CBS News Philadelphia.
Steigelmann and the two other individuals were having a conversation before they all departed the area in a Jaguar SUV, police said, per CBS News Philadelphia.
Around 10 minutes later, authorities were notified that Steigelmann and one other suspect were allegedly wearing shirts that said “Police” and “ICE” and were disrupting the business. The third person was recording the incident. The three suspects were located after investigators used the footage to track the Jaguar SUV. At 10 p.m., Steigelmann was arrested by police on the 1700 block of North 12th Street.

Laura Ingalls Wilder did not cross the country in a covered wagon and triumph over wolves, floods, Indians, and malaria to have her life’s work rewritten by Los Angeles green juice yuppies, but here we are. Netflix officially announced a “Little House on the Prairie” reboot is in the works, and we should prepare for the worst.
Both Wilder’s autobiographical book series and the television series that ran from 1974 to 1983 are deeply popular with Americans because they tapped into a pivotal moment in the country’s history — the westward expansion and the settling of the frontier. The story of Pa, Ma, and their three daughters, Mary, Laura, and baby Carrie are delightful and entertaining, but it also captures the challenges and triumphs of pioneer life, showcasing the resilience and resourcefulness that defined the era. It’s a nostalgic window into a time when daily survival required determination and where small victories like seeing your dad bring a rabbit home for supper felt monumental. So it’s not surprising that Netflix would see this beloved content as ripe for ripping off and cashing in on — just disappointing.
Wilder’s stories embody the most important ideals and values that our country was founded on and that many Americans still hold dear today. Values like family, security, charity, independence, and self-reliance. Can we really trust the service that brought us “Dear White People” to do justice to those themes?
Wilder’s story begins in Wisconsin, but by the third book, the Ingalls family has settled in Kansas, where her father built a one-room log house more or less in the middle of the Osage Indian territory. You can imagine how a modern telling of this story begs for screenwriters to insert woke, anti-settler political screeds, which is not just the opposite of Wilder’s personal experiences but the opposite of American history. Netflix teases this in its press release, promising the “series will offer a kaleidoscopic view” of those who shaped the frontier.
From the perspective of the novel’s narrator, 5-year-old Laura, the Indians are a threat to her family. She watches Ma tremble in fear as they raid their home, taking food and valuables. She lays awake for nights on end listening to their threatening war chants. And yet, Wilder also gives us glimpses of their shared humanity. The way Pa respects and shares meals with Indians, and the way Laura longs to see a “papoose.” The trials and triumphs of the Ingalls are real American stories that are now going to be twisted into a message of the settlers’ racism or colonialism instead of American resilience and exceptionalism.
The problem with wokeness in Hollywood is not that it’s tied to progressivism or Marxism (although it usually is that too), but that it’s boring. We have reached total woke saturation at the box office, where we need fewer land acknowledgments and more original, inspiring works of art. Not woke retellings of recycled characters and franchises.
If Netflix really wants to take a stab at honoring this cultural touchstone, they should focus on keeping “Little House on the Prairie” a showcase of the American values that built this nation. But if they want to lecture us on why Westward expansion was a racist mistake, they can take “Little House” from my cold, dead hands.

The Other Enemy

There are a lot of gun rights groups out there, and that’s not always a bad thing. Each represents the gun community in slightly different ways and people can pick and choose based on which groups align most with their values. Overall, though, the goal is the same. All seek to protect and restore our right to keep and bear arms.

At least, that’s the theory.
There’s a problem with some gun rights groups, and that’s the perfect being the enemy of the good enough.
We didn’t lose our gun rights overnight, so an incremental approach to restoring them shouldn’t be a major issue. Anything that moves the needle toward liberty should be a good thing, in my opinion. However, some want it all right here, right now.
And some groups are a bit more…problematic on that front.
After Rep. Keith Kidwell (R-Beaufort, Dare, Hyde, Pamlico, GRNC Rated****) once again introduced a permitless concealed carry bill,House Bill 5 (“NC Constitutional Carry Act”), legislators started receiving emails from gun rights supporters claiming the bill wasn’t good enough.
Unfortunately, the emails are being generated through a slick-looking website for a phony gun group calling itself the “NC Firearms Coalition” (NCFC) – one of roughly two dozen such shell organizations run by the infamous Dorr brothers, whose specialty is raking in money by attacking pro-gun legislators and legislation with claims that they aren’t pro-gun enough.
This phony gun group has, to the best of our knowledge, never shepherded the introduction of any legislation in the NC legislature. In fact, the last time we ever encountered one of them at the legislature was in 2017. When we checked with legislators the Dorr brothers claimed to be working with, the legislators had never heard from them.
The Dorr scam purports to be headquartered in Raleigh. In truth, the UPS Store in the photograph you see is their “office.”
In the past, NCFC did predatory fundraising by claiming credit for GRNC’s legislative accomplishments. Now they are telling people to fill out an email form to send a message against HB 5 with vague calls for “disjunction of gun control” (whatever that means).
What people don’t know is that the message form they are filling out is actually one of at least two dozen used by the Dorr brothers to gather millions of emails, which they hustle for money.

I’ve talked about the Dorr Brothers before. A couple of times, really.
As noted above, they don’t get much accomplished, but they do make a lot of noise about gun rights purity. If a bill isn’t absolutely perfect in their eyes, it shouldn’t be passed at all, and this is what they try to frame as “no compromise.”
But passing what you can get passed right now isn’t exactly compromising our gun rights. When the status quo involves restrictions on those rights, the win is any restoration of those rights.
There are some people, though, who benefit more from the constant conflict than in actually achieving anything.
None of the Dorr Brothers organizations have notched any real legislative wins. They don’t get legislation introduced and most lawmakers who they claim to work with have never heard of them. When they have heard of them, though, it’s usually in the context of one of the groups the brothers are affiliated with doing something particularly shady.
For me, the big issue with the grift here isn’t that they’re not accomplishing what they purport to want to accomplish, it’s that they actively work against legislation that’s infinitely better than what’s currently on the books. I’m not saying they’re plants by gun control groups or anything of the sort, but I will say that anti-gun groups might well be smacking themselves in the head for not having thought about doing something like this.

Robbers Attempt Garbage Truck Stick-Up, Get Trashed and Bagged in Process

As if things weren’t already screwed up enough in the Windy City, gang banger crooks are apparently so hard up for a target to inflict violence and theft upon they are now trying to rob, of all things, a garbage truck? WTF?
In proof criminals really are THAT dumb, early morning bandits approached a garbage man on his route after he stepped outside of his truck as it was parked in an alley. But the driver, a CCL holder and as the news had to point out in the Peoples Republic of Illinois, also a FOID card holder, as in Firearm Owner’s Identification, which “allows” a gun owner in the state to practice their constitutional rights, wasn’t having none of that.
According to NBC 5 Chicago, “the suspects displayed a firearm and announced a robbery.” The sanitation worker let his own gun do the announcing and went OK Corral on the two losers, shooting one 42-year-old suspect in the head, killing him on the spot, and popping a cap into his 20-year-old accomplice’s neck, putting a prompt end to said robbery. The latter was transported to a hospital after the melee and was last listed in critical condition.
Two weapons were recovered on the scene and detectives are still investigating, NBC 5 reported. The incident took place in the early morning hours of Friday, Jan. 31.
The garbage truck driver was taken to a hospital for evaluation and last listed in good condition according to Brietbart news.
When asked how he felt, the sanitation worker told local news: “It’s just all in a day’s work. Taking out the trash is what I do.” Ok, not really, but that would’ve been a cool quote.
For what this situation is worth, however, the score did end Garbage Man 2, Violent Criminals 0, proving when it comes to violent outcomes one man’s trash really is another man’s treasure, and this is one story defensive minded gun owners can treasure.

In the last few days, Donald Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (“DOGE”) has effectively put an end to USAID, gelded the General Services Administration (GSA) tech division, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), and the Treasury, and fired corrupt people in the FBI – and that’s just the short list.
With the war on USAID, GSA, OPM, and the Treasury alone, DOGE is saving taxpayers at a rate of one billion per day. All of this has driven the Democrats into a frenzy as they insist that an elected president managing the government is a coup. Unfortunately for them (but not for us), they don’t have a legal leg to stand on.
President Kennedy founded USAID via Executive Order 10973 in November 1961: “Administration of Foreign Assistance and Related Functions.” It was meant to be a permanent clearing house that would work with the State Department to distribute money intended to help advance technology and financial competence in low-income countries. It reflected the fact that, in 1961, the U.S. was still the last country standing after WWII. The vision was to benefit America by fortifying poor countries against Soviet depredation.

USAID has strayed far from that mandate. The Daily Mail assembled a helpful list of examples of USAID’s hard-left blank check policy. This list includes:
$30 million to study HIV in Africa among sex workers and so-called “transgender” people.
$38 million to the Wuhan Institute of Virology and other Chinese research labs.

None of this advanced US interests. All this money—your money—was for leftist social engineering and, seemingly, political money laundering. Elon Musk is right that it needs to go.
Things weren’t any better with money going to GSA, where its technology arm, in Luke Rosiak’s words, was “a far-left agency that viciously subverted Trump during his first term.” The GSA had a government-wide computer office—“@18F”—that still has a “trans flag” as its logo. It aggressively enforced extreme DEI policies, including illegally excluding people from activities by race or sex. (Read Roziak’s thread for more examples of GSA tech’s leftist depredations.)

And, of course, Trump fired all the FBI agents involved in the war against those of Trump’s supporters who showed up at the Capitol on January 6. The Acting FBI Director fought back, which leads to the point of this article: It’s almost certain that none of these people has a legal leg to stand on, whether it comes to the way Trump has stopped the money flow or the firings.
First, Trump’s refusal to fund corrupt agencies: Since 1801, under the aegis of Thomas Jefferson, presidents have had a power known as impoundment. This means the president gets to decide how to spend—or not spend—money that Congress has allocated.
In other words, the generation that ratified the Constitution believed that this was an appropriate exercise of executive power. However, in 1974, in yet another piece of Watergate fallout, Congress enacted the “Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act of 1974,” which says that the president must submit to Congress his plans not to spend money.
Given the history of impoundment (the ratifying generation approved of it), it’s highly unlikely that this act is constitutional. The fact that no president has yet challenged it doesn’t change this reality. Additionally, because Trump has a majority in Congress, if he were to submit his impoundment plan, the greater likelihood is that it would give him a pass. (RINOs would have a hard time explaining to voters why they want America to pay for “trans” comic books in Peru.)
Second, Trump’s ability to fire employees: Here’s a slimmed-down version of the history of presidential power in this area.
In 1789, the First Congress debated whether the Constitution gives the president the unilateral power to remove Executive Branch officers. Ultimately, Congress simply said that when the president fires someone (a tacit acknowledgment that he has that unilateral power), a lower-level employee must take custody of records until a new officer is appointed.
That debate has led the Supreme Court to hold several times that Congress has no direct role in firing officials. (See, e.g., Bowsher v. Synar, 478 U.S. 714, 723 (1986); Myers v. United States, 272 U.S. 52, 146 (1926); Parsons v. United States, 167 U.S. 324, 338–43 (1897).)
There was a fight over this power when Andrew Johnson attempted to fire an Executive Branch officer whom Lincoln had appointed, violating the Tenure of Office Act, and leading to Johnson’s impeachment. However, the Senate did not convict Johnson, and by 1887, Congress repealed any requirement that the Senate approve firings.
When the 19th century ended, the president’s unilateral power to fire officers was unquestioned. This makes sense because if the Founders had wanted to extend the “advice and consent” power to firings, they could have done so. This standard continued through the 1920s.
Things changed in the 1930s when an activist Supreme Court created a new standard, which has affected (or infected) the government to this day: It held that if Congress designates an agency as “independent,” Congress, not the president, has the power over dismissal, with the president as its agent. This was the go-ahead to create a fourth branch of government that is neither legislative, executive, nor judicial, although, as we’ve repeatedly seen, these “independent” agencies all claim those powers.
The big issue of our day is whether these “independent” agencies are constitutional—I say they’re not because they are not one of the three branches of government established under the Constitution. Thankfully, the Supreme Court has, of late, been pulling back from the 1930s template.
Here’s another legal concept: “The greater includes the lesser.”
In this case, it means that if the president has the power to fire officials, he has the power to fire lesser employees working under those officials.
And one last legal concept: President Trump has appointed DOGE and Elon Musk to act as his agents when it comes to reasserting executive control over government agencies.
Agents acting within the scope of their assigned agency have the same authority as the principal.
I’m confident that President Trump is acting entirely within the authority the Founding Fathers and ratifiers of our Constitution intended him to have. However, we know that these issues will end up before the Court and, perhaps, before Congress.
I’m hopeful that, as President Trump and DOGE expose an escalating amount of government fraud, abuse, and waste, despite the escalating Democrat pushback, Congress and the Courts will understand that they will not have the American people at their backs if they strike down his legitimate use of constitutional power. Or, as this tweet thread says, nobody is going to be very sympathetic to Democrat lamentations and threats:

A man has admitted a racially aggravated public order offence after setting fire to a Quran which was live-streamed on social media in Manchester.
Martin Frost, 47, was filmed holding a flag of Israel before tearing out pages of the Islamic holy book and setting fire to it in Manchester on Saturday (February 1), a court heard. He had publicised the event online beforehand, and it was streamed on social media, Manchester Magistrates’ Court was told.
The ‘trigger’ for his actions was the death of his daughter in the Israeli conflict which had affected his mental health, the court heard on Monday (February 3).
Frost, of Barkway Road, Stretford, Trafford, pleaded guilty to a single charge of racially or religiously aggravated intentional harassment or alarm to Fahad Iqbal, by displaying some writing, sign or other visible representation which was threatening, abusive or insulting thereby causing that or another person harassment, alarm or distress.
Robin Lynch, prosecuting, told the court a crowd of supporters gathered near the Glade of Light memorial to the 22 murdered in the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing, last Saturday afternoon when Frost began tearing out pages of the Quran.
Mr Lynch said a passer-by tried to intervene, but Frost then shouted: “This is what I think of your Quran. Islam has no place in civil society.”
The prosecutor continued: “Then he ripped out pages and said these pages talk about paedophilia and sets that page alight.” Frost then threw the book in the river nearby and was arrested when police arrived.
The defendant told officers he was demonstrating solidarity with another anti-Islam activist in Sweden, who was recently murdered after burning a Quran.
A victim impact statement from the person who tried to intervene, said: “I was quite shocked, disgusted and offended. I’m a Muslim. I still can’t believe someone would do this. When he began to burn the Quran my heart was about to break out. This is the most emotion I have ever felt.”
Zoe Earle, defending Frost – who was in tears stood in the dock, said: “He’s extremely distressed at the distress he’s caused others as a result of this. He needs some further help and support.
“What triggered what happened recently is that his daughter was killed in the Israeli conflict. Her death has had a significant impact on his mental health. His mental health is clearly declining over the last six months.”
The court heard Frost has 20 previous convictions for 47 offences, but nothing of a similar nature to the public order offence on Saturday. Judge Margaret McCormack asked for a pre-sentence report before passing sentence.
She told Frost she was sorry for the loss of his daughter, but added: “The Quran is a sacred book to Muslims and treating it as you did is going to cause extreme distress. This is a tolerant country, but we just do not tolerate this behaviour.”
She bailed Frost on condition he does not post anything further on social media and will pass sentence on April 29.
