This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

    • The notion that the US is the only “exceptional” country on Earth is baked into the American psyche and unfortunately will not change during Trump’s 2nd term. The US has yet to acknowledge a disastrous military defeat in Ukraine and the rise of China as the manufacturing giant of the 21st Century.

      Trump’s inaugural address was virtually the same at what he was saying at every electoral campaign stop for more than a year.

      He was elected thanks to his stand on two issues: 1) closing the U.S. borders and deporting the millions of illegals who have come in during the years of the Biden administration and 2) not only reducing inflation but rolling back prices thanks to cheap energy resulting from his policy of ‘drill baby drill.’ These issues are both domestic in nature and along with them the rest of his speech was almost entirely focused on domestic matters. These included rolling back the many social engineering experiments inflicted on the American public during the years of Democratic Party control in the new millennium such as promotion of LGBTQ rights, transgender rights, Green Deal restrictions on what companies can manufacture and consumers can buy, and state censorship to enforce political correctness.

      His only direct mention of foreign relations was his restatement of his determination to take back the Panama Canal. Greenland was no mentioned by name, but we may consider it as having been addressed when he referred admiringly to America’s ‘manifest destiny’ of territorial expansion, as well as when he stated his intent to restore the name of the highest mountain in North America, situated in Alaska, to its 1917 designation as Mount McKinley in honor of the 25th president of the United States. For those seeking a brush-up on history, Wikipedia informs us that: ‘He presided over victory in the Spanish-American War of 1898, gained control of Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Philippines.’

      Trump stated in his speech that he wants his legacy to be as a Man of Peace and as a Unifier. However, it is hard to reconcile this ambition with his also insisting on American exceptionalism, which underpins the hubris that has driven the country into one disastrous foreign conflict after another over the past 30 years.

      It is an open question what it will take short of some existential catastrophe for the country and its leaders to accept the status of one among several members of the board of directors of global politics.

    The tragedy of the Southport killings must be a line in the sand for Britain.

    We must make sure the names of those three young girls are not associated with the vile perpetrator, but instead with a fundamental change in how Britain protects its citizens and its children.

    In pursuit of that, we must of course ask and answer difficult questions.

    Questions that should be far-reaching, unburdened by cultural or institutional sensitivities and driven only by the pursuit of justice.

    Britain now faces a new threat. Terrorism has changed.

    In the past, the predominant threat was highly organised groups with clear political intent. Groups like Al-Qaeda.

    That threat of course remains. But now, alongside that we also see acts of extreme violence perpetrated by loners, misfits, young men in their bedroom, accessing all manner of material online, desperate for notoriety.

    Sometimes inspired by traditional terrorist groups. But fixated on that extreme violence, seemingly for its own sake.

      Here are some things to keep in mind over the next few months:

      1) If the preemptive pardons are valid the people receiving them can be forced to give incriminating evidence to questions during a Congressional investigation. If they plead the 5th Amendment they are saying that the pardons aren’t valid.

    • 3) There are massive unanswered questions about both assassins, both attempts have been memory holed after about a week. Why? Remember that Dan Bongino said that layered incompetence is a sign of pre planing.

    • 4) The New Years Day terror attack and explosion have also been memory holed after about the same length of time. Why? Once again look at the incompetence in the New Orleans preventative tactics, was this just DEI or something else?

    • 5) Why were there connections to Ukraine in the second assassination attempt and the Las Vegas bombing?

    • 6) Why was the Las Vegas bombers body burned beyond recognition but his IDs and phone were lightly scorched?

    • 7) Why did the Las Vegas bomber (a highly trained soldier) chose a 50 caliber Desert Eagle (a physical heavy firearm) to use to commit suicide? This firearm was sure to do so much damage to the face that not even the teeth could be used to ID the man?

      • As I understand it, EVERY FBI officer involved in the Hunter Biden Laptop lie has lost security clearance. This is day 1 of the new order.

        My guess is we will find out soon.

    President Trump is not wasting time draining the swamp as he embarks on his mission to save America once more.

    Trump took to Truth Social early Tuesday morning to announce the first four people he had canned upon taking office. None of these should come as a major surprise to TGP readers, especially one certain infamous general.

    “Our first day in the White House is not over yet!” an excited Trump wrote on Truth Social. “My Presidential Personnel Office is actively in the process of identifying and removing over a thousand Presidential Appointees from the previous Administration, who are not aligned with our vision to Make America Great Again.”

    “Let this serve as Official Notice of Dismissal for these four individuals, with many more,” coming soon, he added before the big reveal in “Apprentice-style” fashion.

    “Jose Andres from the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition, Mark Milley from the National Infrastructure Advisory Council, Brian Hook from the Wilson Center for Scholars, and Keisha Lance Bottoms from the President’s Export Council—YOU’RE FIRED!,” Trump concluded.

    Milley’s firing perhaps will be the most satisfying of all. As Jim Hoft reported yesterday, the disgraced general was one of the many corrupt figures pardoned by Joe Biden right before he left the Oval Office for the final time.

    Milley was one of the architects of the worst American foreign policy blunder in history. His response to his own ineptness was to focus on the woke military agenda. Milley also was making promises with China to warn them about any possible US attack.

    Andres is a far-left Trump-hating chef who has regularly preached the ‘virtues’ of open borders for years. This unquestionably played a role in him receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Biden earlier this month.

    Lance Bottoms is a former Atlanta mayor and a Biden adviser who assisted him on his reelection campaign. That is until Biden was forced out in a coup led by Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama.

    Brian Hook served as Trump’s Iran envoy during his first term in office before announcing his resignation in August 2020. He was also a close ally of neocon former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

    These four people are just a small drop in the ocean compared to what’s coming. Reports indicate that Trump intends to fire over 1,000 additional Biden cronies in a housecleaning unlike anything America has seen in decades.

    Trump is sending a clear signal he will not allow Deep State bureaucrats to sabotage his administration by slow-rolling his initiatives and leaking sensitive information to the corporate media. This should rightfully make the political establishment tremble in fear.

    President Trump continues to take no prisoners as he embarks on his mission to make America great once more.

    As Fox News reported Tuesday morning, Admiral Linda Lee Fagan, commandant of the Coast Guard, was fired by the acting Secretary of Homeland Security Benjamin Huffman due to several operational failures under her watch along with rampant political correctness.

    As the outlet noted, Fagan was the first woman to lead the Coast Guard or any branch of the U.S. military.

    Her failures included ignoring border security threats, insufficient leadership in recruitment and retention, obsession with diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives (DEI), and an “erosion of trust” regarding her handling of sexual assault cases at the Coast Guard Academy in what is known as Operation Fouled Anchor.

    More from Fox News:

    Fagan is accused of ineffective deployment of Coast Guard assets to support national border security, including in intercepting fentanyl and other illicit substances. She also had insufficient coordination with DHS to prioritize operations along maritime borders.

    The DHS official said Fagan had significant failures in recruiting personnel, which worsened issues related to operational readiness. The official added that the lack of innovative strategies to address retention struggles in critical specialties weakened workforce sustainability.

    Under her leadership, there were also persistent delays and cost overruns in acquiring essential platforms, including icebreakers and helicopters, that the official said undermined Coast Guard capabilities in the Arctic and other strategic regions. The official further cited inadequate accountability for acquisition failures that were highlighted during President Trump’s first administration.

    Fagan also made DEI policies a priority, including at the Coast Guard Academy, which diverted resources and focus from operational essentials.

    Fagan’s handling of sexual assault cases in Operation Fouled Anchor garnered intense scrutiny from Congress last summer. There, she was questioned over failing to hold officials accountable for the cover-up and and withheld additional documents congressional lawmakers requested about the mishandling of the problem at the Coast Guard Academy.

    Fagan was the first woman to lead the Coast Guard or any branch of the U.S. military as the outlet noted as Fox News noted.

    The news of Fagan’s demise comes after Trump announced his first four firings early this morning including disgraced General Mark Milley. He is expected to issue over 1,000 more pink slips in the coming days.

    UNRWA, a UN agency tasked with providing aid to Palestinian refugees, has long been embroiled in controversy due to repeated allegations of links to Hamas, the Gaza-based terrorist group. In fact, the UN recently acknowledged that nine of its staff members may have been involved in the October 7 terrorist attack on Israel, further intensifying criticism of the agency.

    A White House policy adviser for the incoming Trump administration highlighted the rationale behind this move, stating, “The United States and American citizens have been some of the most generous people in the entire world. But at this point, we have to understand that foreign policy is domestic policy, and if this is not aligned with our interests, then Uncle Sam should not be opening up his pocketbook any longer.”

    In August 2024, The Gateway Pundit reported that UNRWA admitted that nine of its staff members may have been involved in the heinous Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

    This admission is not just a minor oversight; it highlights a disturbing pattern of complicity and negligence within an organization that claims to uphold humanitarian values.

    Philippe Lazzarini, the UNRWA Commissioner-General, confirmed that an investigation by the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) found evidence that could suggest these staff members were involved in the attacks.

    While Lazzarini attempts to downplay the severity of this finding by stating that evidence was “insufficient” in other cases, the fact remains: nine individuals associated with a UN agency may have played a role in terrorism against a sovereign nation. This is not merely an administrative issue; it is a matter of national security and moral integrity.

    The IDF also revealed that a top-secret Hamas subterranean data center was discovered beneath the headquarters of UNRWA in Gaza.

    According to The Times of Israel, “The subterranean data center — complete with an electrical room, industrial battery power banks and living quarters for Hamas terrorists operating the computer servers — was built precisely under the location where Israel would not consider looking initially, let alone target in an airstrike.”

    President Donald Trump has once again proven his unwavering commitment to national security by announcing a decisive executive order aimed at dismantling the drug cartels that have been terrorizing America.

    On Monday, a new executive order was signed by Trump to designate these groups as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs) and Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGTs).

    The executive order specifically targets notorious cartels such as the Sinaloa Cartel and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, as well as violent gangs like MS-13 and Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua.

    The Biden administration’s open-border policies have only emboldened these criminal organizations. By dismantling Trump-era measures like the “Remain in Mexico” policy and halting border wall construction, Biden effectively handed the cartels a golden ticket to expand their influence.

    By designating these entities as FTOs and SDGTs, Trump’s administration is determined to mobilize every available resource—ranging from intensified law enforcement crackdowns to strategic military operations—aimed at dismantling cartel leadership, infrastructure, and operations.

    Trump says he may deploy the military into Mexico to strike the cartels after designating them as foreign terrorist organizations through an executive order.

    Labeling these cartels as FTOs and SDGTs also enables the U.S. government to:

    Freeze assets linked to the cartels within U.S. jurisdictions.
    Prosecute individuals providing support to these organizations under stringent anti-terrorism laws.
    Deny entry to members and affiliates of the designated groups.

    From this day forward, cartel leaders and the government officials shielding them are officially on notice.

    DESIGNATING CARTELS AND OTHER ORGANIZATIONS AS FOREIGN TERRORIST ORGANIZATIONS AND SPECIALLY DESIGNATED GLOBAL TERRORISTS

    By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), 8 U.S.C. 1101 et seq., the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA),50 U.S.C. 1701 et seq. it is hereby ordered:

    Section 1. Purpose. This order creates a process by which certain international cartels (the Cartels) and other organizations will be designated as Foreign Terrorist Organizations, consistent with section 219 of the INA (8 U.S.C. 1189), or Specially Designated Global Terrorists, consistent with IEEPA (50 U.S.C. 1702) and Executive Order 13224 of September 23, 2001 (Blocking Property and Prohibiting Transactions With Persons Who Commit, Threaten to Commit, or Support Terrorism), as amended.

    (a) International cartels constitute a national-security threat beyond that posed by traditional organized crime, with activities encompassing:

    (i) convergence between themselves and a range of extra-hemispheric actors, from designated foreign-terror organizations to antagonistic foreign governments;

    (ii) complex adaptive systems, characteristic of entities engaged in insurgency and asymmetric warfare; and

    (iii) infiltration into foreign governments across the Western Hemisphere.

    The Cartels have engaged in a campaign of violence and terror throughout the Western Hemisphere that has not only destabilized countries with significant importance for our national interests but also flooded the United States with deadly drugs, violent criminals, and vicious gangs.

    The Cartels functionally control, through a campaign of assassination, terror, rape, and brute force nearly all illegal traffic across the southern border of the United States. In certain portions of Mexico, they function as quasi-governmental entities, controlling nearly all aspects of society. The Cartels’ activities threaten the safety of the American people, the security of the United States, and the stability of the international order in the Western Hemisphere. Their activities, proximity to, and incursions into the physical territory of the United States pose an unacceptable national security risk to the United States.

    (b) Other transnational organizations, such as Tren de Aragua (TdA) and La Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) pose similar threats to the United States. Their campaigns of violence and terror in the United States and internationally are extraordinarily violent, vicious, and similarly threaten the stability of the international order in the Western Hemisphere.

    (c) The Cartels and other transnational organizations, such as TdA and MS-13, operate both within and outside the United States. They present an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States. I hereby declare a national emergency, under IEEPA, to deal with those threats.

    Sec. 2. Policy. It is the policy of the United States to ensure the total elimination of these organizations’ presence in the United States and their ability to threaten the territory, safety, and security of the United States through their extraterritorial command-and-control structures, thereby protecting the American people and the territorial integrity of the United States.

    Sec. 3. Implementation. (a) Within 14 days of the date of this order, the Secretary of State shall take all appropriate action, in consultation with the Secretary of the Treasury, the Attorney General, the Secretary of Homeland Security, and the Director of National Intelligence, to make a recommendation regarding the designation of any cartel or other organization described in section 1 of this order as a Foreign Terrorist Organization consistent with 8 U.S.C. 1189 and/or a Specially Designated Global Terrorist consistent with 50 U.S.C. 1702 and Executive Order 13224.

    (b) Within 14 days of the date of this order, the Attorney General and the Secretary of Homeland Security shall take all appropriate action, in consultation with the Secretary of State, to make operational preparations regarding the implementation of any decision I make to invoke the Alien Enemies Act, 50 U.S.C. 21 et seq., in relation to the existence of any qualifying invasion or predatory incursion against the territory of the United States by a qualifying actor, and to prepare such facilities as necessary to expedite the removal of those who may be designated under this order.

    Sec. 4. General Provisions. (a) Nothing in this order shall be construed to impair or otherwise affect:

    (i) the authority granted by law to an executive department or agency, or the head thereof; or

    (ii) the functions of the Director of the Office of Management and Budget relating to budgetary, administrative, or legislative proposals.

    (b) This order shall be implemented consistent with applicable law and subject to the availability of appropriations.

    (c) This order is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.

  15. ACLU Files Lawsuit Just Hours After Trump Signed Executive Order Addressing Birthright Citizenship

    The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has filed a lawsuit challenging President Donald Trump’s executive order on birthright citizenship.

    The lawsuit was filed in New Hampshire on Monday evening, just hours after the executive order was signed.

    Under Trump’s order, a baby born in the United States will not have automatic citizenship unless one of the parents is a citizen or green card holder.

    The order states:

    It is the policy of the United States that no department or agency of the United States government shall issue documents recognizing United States citizenship, or accept documents issued by State, local, or other governments or authorities purporting to recognize United States citizenship, to persons: (1) when that person’s mother was unlawfully present in the United States and the person’s father was not a United States citizen or lawful permanent resident at the time of said person’s birth, or (2) when that person’s mother’s presence in the United States was lawful but temporary, and the person’s father was not a United States citizen or lawful permanent resident at the time of said person’s birth.

    “On a prospective basis, the federal government will not recognize automatic birthright citizenship for children of illegal aliens born in the United States,” a Trump official explained on a call with reporters about the orders.

    The ACLU argues that the order violates the 14th Amendment and the Administrative Procedures Act.

    “Denying citizenship to U.S.-born children is not only unconstitutional — it’s also a reckless and ruthless repudiation of American values. Birthright citizenship is part of what makes the United States the strong and dynamic nation that it is.

    This order seeks to repeat one of the gravest errors in American history, by creating a permanent subclass of people born in the U.S. who are denied full rights as Americans,” Anthony D. Romero, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union, said in a statement.

    “We will not let this attack on newborns and future generations of Americans go unchallenged. The Trump administration’s overreach is so egregious that we are confident we will ultimately prevail.”

  29. This is Why National Reciprocity is Needed

    Thanks to reciprocity and constitutional carry laws, a concealed carry permit holder from Georgia is recognized to some degree or another in 32 states, at least if the permit holder is 21 or older. However, there are a handful of states that almost no one can carry in unless they live there, and the only reason most residents can carry is because of the Supreme Court’s Bruen decision.

    But national reciprocity is likely to be a topic this year in Congress. President Donald Trump has already said he supports it and GOP leadership seems supportive as well.

    There are still roadblocks to be navigated, but there’s a decent chance it will happen.

    And there’s a reason it’s needed.

    With the U.S. Congress in Republican control and the new Trump administration in power, the possibility of a national concealed carry reciprocity law is increasing. Some are speculating how that will impact Illinois.

    Every state in the nation has some sort of concealed carry law. The requirements vary state by state. Some allow concealed carry without a permit. Other states like Illinois require a permit. Illinois was the last state in the nation to implement a law allowing carrying concealed firearms outside the home in 2013.

    U.S. Lawshield’s Kirk Evans said national concealed carry reciprocity would be similar to how states recognize driver’s licenses from other states.

    “But the general concept is if you’ve got a concealed carry permit in, say, Virginia, then Illinois is going to be required to recognize that permit,” Evans told The Center Square.

    In 2018, gun control advocates Everytown posted on Twitter, now X, that “’Concealed Carry Reciprocity’ would force every state to accept other states’ concealed carry standards, even states that have weaker standards, or, worse, no standards at all,” and “would undermine the standards that states have set for who can carry hidden, loaded guns in public.”

    With Illinois’ firearms regulations among the most strict in the nation, Evans expects some to be “kicking and screaming” from gun control groups in Illinois if national reciprocity is enacted.

    “The better news for Illinois is while you have to recognize that permit, you can still regulate the how, where and why of carrying,” Evans said.

    Of course, the same will be said in states like New York, Hawaii, and California, which don’t recognize pretty much anyone’s permit as things currently stand.

    Personally, I’d rather see national constitutional carry passed, but I also don’t think that’s likely to happen, so this is probably as good as we can get, and frankly, it should have already happened.

    As it stands, I can use my Georgia driver’s license in any state in the nation. It’s recognized as valid regardless of any other factors, and driving isn’t a constitutionally protected right.

    So why aren’t carry permits already recognized?

    Well, the truth is that they’re not and it’s likely to take an act of Congress to make it happen. This is our best chance to pass it in quite some time–since Trump’s first term, as a matter of fact–and my hope is that GOP leadership doesn’t squander the opportunity like they did 8 years ago.

  30. A Rifle Behind Every Blade Of Grass: Why The Taiwanese People Must Arm Themselves Like Americans

    Communism is the most murderous ideology in recent history. Communists around the world killed close to 100 million people; that’s more than 5 times the number killed by the Nazis. Of those 100 million, the Chinese Communist Party is culpable for 65 million dead.

    Luckily for the world, communism was dealt a decisive defeat last century. Within a few years of the Berlin Wall coming down, communism imploded across Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union. There were other unforeseen benefits: with its Soviet benefactor gone (and with other economic triggers), India had to roll back democratic socialism. Billions of people suddenly experienced freedom like never before.

    There was hope that the Chinese regime would also suffer the same fate as other communist governments. But they managed to hang on to power, crushing dissent with tyrannical, barbarous force.

    Despite the persistence of the Chinese Communist regime, the end of the Cold War marked a victory for liberal democracy. The 1990s were a time of optimism, as the world enjoyed a peace dividend.

    All of this resulted in a belief that communist China could be wooed and charmed into what seemed like the future: a peaceful, liberal global order, with free enterprise, free trade, and open engagement among the peoples of the world.

    The United States, Europe, and Japan opened up trade and travel with communist China. Entire industries were offshored with the belief that as the Chinese people engaged with liberal democracies, the communist regime would loosen its grip on them, like how Augusto Pinochet eventually ceded power and Chile became a democracy.

    Unfortunately, the opposite occurred. The Chinese Communist Party remains entrenched, having transformed China into a surveillance state. The 26-year old Great Firewall of China looks quaint as compared to their modern Black Mirror-like dystopian social credit system. They’ve leveraged technology to create an authoritarian regime unprecedented in history. Rather than adopting liberalism, China is exporting illiberalism. (As an example, see how western governments imitated the harsh Chinese COVID lockdown model, instead of going the way of Sweden.)

    More alarming than China’s domestic repression is its growing threat to the liberal global order. The regime has whipped up jingoistic propaganda domestically to fuel its rapid militarization, closing — and in some cases surpassing — the West’s technological lead. With aspirations to replace the United States as a global power, China is already asserting itself as a regional hegemon, as evidenced by its frequent clashes with several of their neighbors. This foreshadows the future if China expands its reach beyond the region.

    In the hive mind of the communist regime, the Chinese Civil War never ended, and Taiwan (formally known as the Republic of China) must be defeated, annexed, and brought under the control of the Chinese Communist Party. Unification is a ruse.

    American intelligence is on to it, and their assessment states that Dear Leader Xi Jinping has given the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) a deadline of 2027 to take Taiwan by force. Their assessment seems correct as evidence of what the Chinese have been up to piles up. They have built ships capable of an amphibious assault like D-Day. They have reinforced their aircraft bases with enough concrete to build a 4-lane highway from Washington DC to Chicago. They have built new aircraft carriers and nuclear submarines. They recently revealed 6th-generation fighter aircraft. They are working on drone taxis that will get weaponized sooner rather than later. They have allegedly weaponized microwaves. The list is long.

    Meanwhile, after two decades of being involved in conflicts around the world, the American people are war weary. It’s understandable why someone would say, “Not my country, not my problem, let the Chinese communist regime take over Taiwanese democracy.” But this is a historical inflection point unlike anything seen before. It’s not like German reunification, in which the East Germans gave up communism and voluntarily merged into a liberal democracy. It will be the forceful extinguishing of Liberty in a part of the world where liberal democratic norms were imposed by the United States after the radioactive dust from World War 2 settled.

    The United States and allied countries understand the threat, and have been addressing Taiwan’s security needs by supplying them with weaponry. Turning Taiwan into a porcupine with missiles as quills will help, so will creating an aquatic defensive perimeter around the island.

    But in the end, it’s absolutely imperative that no communist boots land on free Taiwanese soil, and if they do, they are repelled quickly. If there are no boots on the ground, Taiwan isn’t invaded. Period.

    That’s where the American model of an armed citizenry rising up in defense of their country comes into play. The Second Amendment was written with several goals in mind, one of which was repelling foreign invasions. After the lessons learned from the invasion of Ukraine and the October 7 attack on Israel, it should be obvious that Taiwan really needs an armed and trained citizenry.

    Direct support from the West may be unlikely. The only country that can realistically project power that far away is the United States. Political realities may mean that the United States doesn’t intervene directly. This has nothing to do with the Taiwanese people’s race or language or religion; at the start of World War 2, the US was in a similar isolationist (or non-interventionist) mood. Winston Churchill put a lot of effort to get the United States involved in support of the United Kingdom, and even then, American involvement was finally precipitated by the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

    The weaponry being supplied by the West will help Taiwan delay access to the island, but the communist regime will launch wave after wave of attacks. They could reduce Taipei to rubble before even sending a single boat across the strait. Given their history of killing their own people to maintain power, they may be willing to do so, even if it means ruling over a devastated island.

    The comparison of military power is bleak:

    Currently, Taiwan has 169,000 active-duty military personnel, according to the International Institute for Strategic Studies’ The Military Balance. That’s a figure dwarfed by the PLA’s 2-million-strong military. The PLA air force operates more than 2,400 combat-capable aircraft, including J-20 Mighty Dragon stealth fighter jets. Taiwan has 474 combat aircraft, and most of its fighter jets are decades old. China also boasts the world’s largest navy, including two aircraft carriers with a third on the way.

    To bolster its defense forces, Taiwan has mandatory military service for men. But, the commitment is only four months—compared to 18 months in South Korea, and about two years in Israel and Singapore.

    Taiwanese troops will be overwhelmed in the face of an enemy that’s overwhelmingly larger. Let’s not forget that communist regime is sizing up to achieve qualitative and quantitative parity with the United States.

    The worst case scenario for Taiwan is that the communist PLA defeats their defenses and lands troops on the island. This is where Japanese Admiral Yamamoto’s (unsubstantiated) quote comes into play.

    You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.

    Taiwan must arm all willing adults, both men and women. There’s no alternative. While the Taiwanese seek to avoid war, the Chinese Communist regime shows no respect for their democracy and will impose conflict upon them.

    What happened in Hong Kong in the recent past is evidence what is to come if there is no resistance.

    An important precursor to arming the Taiwanese people is a shift in the mentality of their government. They will need to trust their people with arms. It’s a bridge that most governments are afraid to cross, but the Taiwanese government must.

    Once that mindset shifts, the people can be armed quickly and cheaply. Taiwan has an adult population of roughly 19 million. Giving each adult an M-4, a shotgun for FPV drone hunting, a sidearm, and 1000 rounds of ammo for each gun won’t take a big bite out of the Taiwanese defense budget.

    Arming the population is obviously insufficient. Training is extremely important, as President James Madison learned after the Battle of Bladensburg during the War of 1812. Training must start immediately.

    Even if my guess is wrong and it costs a lot more money, that’s still a small price to pay for freedom. Money that’s spent on defense can be recouped with a few years of economic growth, but freedom that’s lost to a totalitarian regime could take a century to be won back, or never.

    In the absence of direct security commitments from the free world, the best hope for Taiwan is deterrence through strength. An armed citizenry is the last line of defense to warn a potential attacker of the high price to pay for invasion. So far, the Taiwanese government has either not understood that, or understands it and is still not over the “trust your people with guns” hump.

    Dear Leader Xi Jinping’s 2027 deadline is fast approaching. Taiwan must act quickly, or risk becoming the first domino in a new Dark Age of Tyranny.

  31. No Matter How Much You Hate the Media, You Don’t Hate Them Enough

    I’m used to the media getting stuff wrong on guns, gun rights, violent crime, and so on. I’ve seen it time and time again. For a long time, I believed a lot of this was really just honest mistakes born out of ignorance. They weren’t gun people and no one in the newsroom were gun people. They likely didn’t know any gun people or, if they did, they weren’t aware those folks were into guns.

    But those days are long behind me.

    All too often these days, I see issues reported on and framed in the most disingenuous ways imaginable. They try to make headlines and the body of the story, at least in the initial paragraphs, as alarming as possible to the news consumer, all in an effort to manipulate public perception.

    Take this story out of Arizona. A House committee in the legislature voted to approve a measure that would allow teachers to potentially carry firearms on campus if they so desire.

    But that’s not how it’s presented, at least at first.

    Let’s start with the headline, which is all some people will ever see. “Arizona House panel plans to reduce school gun violence by allowing more guns on campus.”

    This was likely written by someone who thinks guns cause violence in some way. To such a person, the idea of allowing teachers–the people many of these some folks seem to want to hold up as demigods everywhere else–is insane because guns make people evil or something.

    The article itself, however, doesn’t start out much better.

    A gun may be on the supply list for school staff and teachers next year if new legislation is signed into law in Arizona.

    Oh, that’s clever.

    Except, it’s not. Why? Because if something is on the supply list, that means it’s a requirement. The rest of the story doesn’t support that at all.

    House Bill 2022 is one of the first pieces of legislation to make progress in Arizona’s new legislature, passing out of the House Education Committee on Tuesday, the second day of session. It would allow teachers and staff at Arizona’s schools to carry on campus and in classrooms in a move that supporters say would be an investment in students’ safety during a time when school shootings continue to threaten the nation’s children.

    “We’re not advocating to go out and find the active shooter, we’re advocating for them to protect their children in the best manner possible,” state Rep. Selina Bliss, R-LD 1, said. “And this is the very last step if they were pushed to that situation.”

    Bliss, who has a background as a nursing educator, sponsored the bill, but says it was written by the Arizona Citizen’s Defense League, a nonprofit gun rights group.

    Funny how they never point out when Everytown or some other anti-gun group actually writes the gun control legislation being pushed, isn’t it?

    Now, in fairness to the reporter, this admission and information that it’s optional comes right after the implication that teachers might be required to carry a firearm. It also goes on to note that teachers will have to undergo extensive firearm training before they can carry in the classroom.

    Still, the framing is far too typical from the media, which leans into the idea that guns are the problem.

    This comes from the media all the time and it infects the brains of ordinary Americans.

    What’s more, no one in the media hierarchy ever thinks to call this out. They don’t call it out because they favor it.

    • When Trump is talking about this idea he keeps saying that the US will own 1/2 of the business, this will mean that the US gets 1/2 of the profits. He is also talking about the US owning 1/2 or Tik Tok which would mean that the US gets 1/2 of the profits. I think he is looking for ways to replace the Income, Inheritance and Gift taxes, I know he wants to stop all of those taxes. They are what gives the US Government a lot of control over the population and he wants to remove that control. I can see where there may be some legal problems with owning the businesses but there are as many legal arguments allowing the ownership as there are blocking it.

      We will have to wait and see what happens just as we will have to wait and see what happens with the Birth Right Citizenship. A very telling piece of evidence is that Congress passed the Indian Citizenship Act of 1924 well after the 14th Amendment was passed. This shows that the 14th Amendment was meant to apply to the ex slaves and their descendants not everyone who happens to be in the States when giving birth.
