Reader’s Links for December 17, 2024

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

Conservatives win Cloverdale-Langley City riding with 66.3% of the vote. The Liberals lost the riding with only 16% of the vote. The NDP were third with 12.5%.

Should the Liberals and NDP start wondering about losing party status in the next election?

  4. Jonathan Turley:

There are growing indications that President Biden is about to fundamentally change the use of presidential pardons by granting “prospective” or “pre-emptive” pardons to political allies.

Despite repeated denials by President-elect Donald Trump that he is seeking retaliation against opponents and wants “success [to be] my revenge,” Democratic politicians and pundits have called for up to thousands of such pardons.

While there is little threat of any viable prosecution of figures like the members of the House’s Jan. 6 committee, the use of “white knight pardons” offers obvious political benefits.

After many liberals predicted the imminent collapse of democracy and that opponents would be rounded up by the Trump administration, they are now contemplating the nightmare that democracy might survive and that there will be no mass arrests.

The next best thing to a convenient collapse of democracy is a claim that Biden’s series of pre-emptive pardons averted it — to preserve the narrative.

#APDAlert: Fourteen people have been detained by Aurora police after officers responded to a report of a home invasion with weapons at The Edge at Lowry Apartments.

Just before 2:30 a.m., Aurora police patrol officers responded to a report of an armed home invasion involving a stabbing and kidnapping at an apartment in the 1200 block of Dallas Street. The preliminary investigation suggests several suspects entered an apartment occupied by two people. The suspects moved the victims to another apartment on the property, where they were threatened and bound. An adult male sustained a non-life-threatening stab wound during the incident.

After some time, the victims were released by the suspects, at which point they called 911. Multiple Aurora police patrol units responded to the scene. Fourteen people have been detained and are being questioned by investigators.

We are still at the very early stages of the investigation. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.

  8. What Would It Mean if CEO Killer’s Suppressor Was 3D Printed?
    By Tom Knighton | 12:29 PM | December 17, 2024

In the early days after UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson’s murder, there was a lot of speculation as to what exactly the killer used. With the arrest of Luigi Magione, though, many of them have been answered. We know that Magione was in possession of a 3D-printed handgun and he had a suppressor.

However, what we’re not seeing in most of these reports is just where the suppressor came from.

I’ve reached out to the NYPD for answers, though they haven’t responded by the time this particular piece has gone live. In fairness to them, I sent that email early this morning before most decent people were awake.

What’s interesting, though, are a lot of reports that this was like a 3D-printed suppressor.

‘I can confirm it is a 3D-printed gun,’ Print Shoot Repeat, who runs the YouTube channel PSR, said. ‘What are the odds it was a 3D-printed suppressor? Well, I think kind of high honestly.’

He explained that a 3D printer suppressor is ‘super light,’ but does not allow the slide the cycle properly.

The shooter of Thompson experienced a similar issue during the murder when he shot and had to recycle the slide to take another shot.

However, another gun expert with more than 30 years of training told Dailymail.com that most guns with a suppressor will behave that way.

‘There are different causes for jamming,’ the expert, who spoke on anonymity, said.

‘Sometimes the ammunition is poor sometimes the firearm is dirty, it’s not maintained. The ammunition is a poor grade. It doesn’t matter what kind of gun it is.

    So yeah, there’s debate.

What we don’t have are answers.

3D-printing a suppressor fits what we know about the killer. We know he printed the receiver for his gun–my speculation has been that he knew all the media reporting on “gun tracing” but didn’t understand what that meant, so he wanted to avoid being identified quickly or easily–and that suppressors are more tightly controlled than firearms are. It’s very likely he did print his suppressor.

That brings up all kinds of possibilities and probabilities that a lot of gun control activists aren’t going to like.

First, again, suppressors are tightly controlled. There aren’t “suppressor kits” marketed throughout the internet where you guy buy a kit, print some key parts, and you legally have a suppressor. It doesn’t work like that. One could argue that there are kits available, but they’re not marketed as such and I have yet to find one that requires a 3D-printed part to work.

So that brings us to the idea that the whole thing was 3D printed.

No laws on the books allow just anyone to print themselves a suppressor.

“Yeah, but the files are all over the internet, most likely.”

Sure. However, there’s a problem with that argument. See, while possession of those files might not be illegal, having them on the internet likely is.

The gun files you can find on the internet are generally only there because the State Department has decided that they don’t violate the International Traffic in Arms Regulations or ITAR. That basically says that weapons and weapons technology can’t be exported without federal approval. That includes technical data.

On Monday, a State Department spokesperson confirmed to Bearing Arms that the U.S. Munitions List in Category I does, in fact, include suppressors and the technical data required to make them.

In other words, those files shouldn’t lawfully be on the internet in the first place.

While the State Department wouldn’t comment on any potential investigation, this still blows all the “we should ban ‘ghost guns’” rhetoric out of the water.

In no way are suppressors lawfully produced, and yet Magione allegedly produced one. If such a tightly controlled item can be produced from tightly controlled information, then just how does anyone really think they can stop guns from being made?

Yes, Magione reportedly used a kit, but we’ve covered the FGC-9, which doesn’t require any kits, just parts from the hardware store.

The truth of the matter is that just the possibility that Thompson’s killer used a 3D-printed suppressor illustrates that gun control isn’t a winning strategy. You’re never going to keep things out of the hands of people who want them badly enough. They’ll find a way.

While everyone is going nuts about the gun itself, the suppressor is the bigger issue, which is why no one wants to talk about it.

    • Modern technology is the biggest threat to the wanna be tyrants, 3D Printers (both plastic and metal) and computer controlled milling machines have made gun control a dead issue. The left refuses to accept reality and are trying to continue controlling people by refusing to let them have the tools that they can use to protect themselves.

Only Tyrants and Oligarchs fear an armed populace.

  9. Sick: Head of ‘Comrade Workwear’ Announces ‘Most Wanted CEOs’ Playing Cards Following Murder of UnitedHeathcare CEO

Following the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, attempts to turn a cold-blooded killer into a folk hero have been unsettling.

Authorities identified Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old former Ivy League student, as the person responsible for the fatal shooting. After a days-long manhunt, Mangione was arrested in a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania.

Those seeming to justify the murder include Senator Warren (D-MA). Warren told MSNBC’s Joy Reid that murdering Thompson was wrong but also served as a “warning” of sorts that “you can only push people so far.”

Bernie Sanders (Socialist-VT) tried to defend Warren’s shameful comments saying, “Shooting somebody in the back is totally unacceptable. But what I think has happened in the last few months is that what you have seen is people’s anger at a health insurance industry which denies people the health care they desperately need while they make billions of dollars.”

Hundreds of Mangione’s twisted supporters have raised money for his defense on a crowdfunding site, and others have sent money to his commissary account in prison.

Now, James Harr, the founder of a “socialist apparel” brand, Comrade Workwear, announced plans to sell a deck of cards featuring 52 “most wanted CEOs.”

    The New York Post reports:

He said it was inspired by the “most-wanted Iraqi” playing card decks famously distributed to US and coalition forces during the 2003 invasion of Iraq to help identify key targets in Saddam Hussein’s circle.

That deck helped soldiers “find and do what they needed to do” to those depicted, said Harr, whose social accounts are loaded with anti-capitalism posts and images including one reading “the CEO must die.”

He then blithely rattles off numerous A-list CEOs — whom The Post is choosing not to name — to be included in the deck, asking his combined 109,000 followers between Instagram and TikTok to help come up with more.

The comment thread below the Instagram post was flooded with praise from followers, who threw out scores of suggestions for other potential targets to feature in the deck, with many pledging to buy it as soon as it’s available for purchase.

Harr shared on TikTik, “Did you know in 2003, the US military, a defense agency, created a ‘Most Wanted’ Iraqi Playing Card set? They made it so they could help troops identify the most wanted members of people in Saddam Hussein’s cabinet, military, government, everything like that. Helped them find and do what they needed to do.”

“They looked like this. They had pictures of them and their name and what party, what they do, things like that. But a follower, shout out JDL, reached out and said, ‘We should do this for CEOs.’”

“Imagine, we got Sam Altman and Zuck and Bezo, a little Peter Thiel action, maybe the CEO of Northrup Grumman, the entire Walton family.”

“So yes, I’m actively making this playing card set, 52 CEOs.”

” I have a list, but if anyone has someone exceptional they they want to toss the name in the ring, let me know. I am making that this weekend. I might push a little bit, but it’s going to be up for pre-order in the next couple of days. So look out and help me.:
