This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.
So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

My friend and I speak almost daily on current events. Many are the days that we feel nearly paralyzed by the inundation of multiple developments on multiple fronts. Which way to look? What is true, here? What is smoke and what is fire? What is an intentional event created by people who are our enemy? Do we even have enemies or are we paranoid? Are we really in the throws of a red-green revolution? How many concentric rings of understanding must we struggle out through in order to find an understanding that seems satisfactory?
Who among us is least confused inside of this information battle space? I don’t know the answer to this question, but I think I can offer a simple analog that may help.
Firstly, discard relativism and believe that truth exists. Believe there is right and there is wrong. Real and bullshit. If you’ve not yet settled this argument with yourself you’re at the wrong blog.
The analog is as follows, and I like it because it relates so well to our time that it is, to me, beyond conspicuous:
Central banks create and destroy fiat currencies on a daily basis. When they decide the money supply must be increased, they electronically transfer “credit” into the accounts of partner banks. This transfer is sequential as it goes through the machine. The U.S. has what is called the Federal Reserve System.

What is most interesting, I find, is how abstracted the path is of taxpayer money going from private (we the peepo) to public, then back to private (commercial bank) hands. Therein lies the rub.
These digital transfers of hundreds of billions of dollars aren’t anything but that. Computer entries conjured from nothing. Accounting exercises. This virtual (fiat) money lands in the laps of the smartest people in the proverbial room. (How many MIT people find their way to Wall Street, Yucki?)
Not for one second do these sharp cookies believe the digital entries they have received from above represent any real worth. This is why they then proceed to immediately invest in real things such as real companies creating real stuff with real people. This is the alchemy of creating something from nothing. This is why you may have heard the line about the people being closest to the printing press benefit the most. They get first dibs on converting fake money into tangible assets. The rest of us having no such advantage must survive more by our wits. Criticisms aside, it has been a brilliant system which has created much wealth for over one hundred years. This said, it is a glorified ponzi scheme.
Just as the people closest to the creation of fiat currency know the truth about the currency they create, collectivists spinning the Hegelian dialectical understand the real value of what it is they create. This is why George Soros has been so successful. He is a rare bird sitting at the nexus of both printing presses.
The difference between money and dialectics is that fiat currency (lie) gets real once converted into tangible assets. The dialectical (lie) gets real once converted to human reaction. This reaction is then cycled into leftist political gain, power gain, and then of course parasitic wealth transfer.
Both currencies undergo their respective circuitous routing toward their tangible ends.
The enemy of the communist dialectic is anything that exposes it as a lie. This would be truth. The enemy of the fiat currency is anything that exposes it as a lie. This would be any tangible asset, but in the monetary sphere distilled to physical gold and silver as mediums of exchange without counterparty risk.
Back to my introduction. One effects of a blizzard of lies (information battle space) is paralyzing snow blindness. Here is an example where the Federal government is intentionally working against the interests of the people. How many more examples must we witness before we commonly admit the enemy is well within our gates?

As an aside, the American Sheriff is a uniquely powerful entity. We see good Sheriffs doing great things. Could the Sheriff be a key to fighting back on a larger scale?
The County Sheriff is the highest police official in his county, it takes a direct law from the State Legislature to over ride this power. They can literally order State and Federal law officers to stop their investigations and leave the county there are a few States in the North East who have stripped their sheriffs of this power along with the power to investigate crimes and arrest criminals. The problem is that Sheriffs are elected and beholden to the political leaders of their counties, although a lot of them are raising in protest and telling the left where to go.
If/when the Second American Civil War starts it will probably be done by the left, although if Kamala is elected (they steal this election) I see some of the Governors standing up and telling DC where to go and what to do after they get there.

Amsterdam, New York city leaders are unsettled after local CEO Anthony Constantino posted a massive ‘Vote for Trump’ sign on top of his property, and the tallest building in Amsterdam.
This week, Sticker Mule CEO Anthony Constantino unveiled a massive, $150,000 ‘Vote for Trump’ sign on top of the tallest building in Amsterdam, NY.
The sign is meant to symbolize American manufacturing coming back to America, with the location being a fitting due to the factory building it is a-fixed on top of being vacant for over 40 years following the closing of Fownes Brothers and Co., a glove manufacturer that shut down U.S. operations in 1984 and moved to China, decimating Amsterdam.
But when Constantino brought Sticker Mule to the city in 2010, things began to turn around. As his company grew to be one of the largest in the printing industry, he began purchasing and revitalizing almost every functional manufacturing building in the city — bringing prosperity to a city long riddled by despair and poverty.
The city was extremely grateful for Constantino, seeing him as a kind of local hero at the time … but apparently the city is now having a change of heart.
Now they are threatening to throw him in jail unless he removes the sign, which is located on his own property!
It all began with a complaint from the city demanding it be removed, as reported by The Post Millennial.
Then Mayor Mike Cinquanti took to Facebook to announce further action.
The Montgomery County Supreme Court granted a temporary restraining order.
The mayor then followed through, with the city sending a temporary restraining order demanding: Take down the sign or else.

Constantino responded to the news to the Gateway Pundit stating:
“I’m shocked and deeply disturbed by the City’s reaction. It’s a beautiful sign, designed by local artists, to bring much needed enthusiasm back to Upstate, NY which is what we need to re-ignite economic growth.
The sign symbolizes the return of manufacturing to America and elevates the skyline of our hometown. Whether you’re Democrat or Republican, it’s a tourist attraction that will bring economic activity to Amsterdam, NY making it a big win for everyone.
Only highly partisan and short-sighted politicians would take issue with it.”
Constantino is hosting a sign lighting party in the parking lot on Monday, featuring a stage constructed on top of three Cybertrucks, free fish filet sandwiches, and Trump signs. The event will feature special guests including UFC superstars Henry Cejudo, Kelvin Gastelum and Tracy Cortez.

In yet another example of legacy media being the marketing wing for Democrats, Paramount Global, the parent company of CBS, has rejected a series of advertisements from CatholicVote.
The ad highlights the dangers of these surgeries as well as the disturbing fact that U.S. taxpayers are often footing the bill.
The Daily Caller News Foundation exclusively obtained emails announcing the rejection:
“Paramount S&P has declined the spot submitted yesterday,” a Paramount ad sales executive stated in the email first obtained by the DCNF.
“Taxpayers, especially parents, deserve to know that they are paying for devastating and permanent surgeries that destroy the healthy body parts of children,” president of CatholicVote, Brian Burch, told the DCNF. “CBS and Paramount have been particularly aggressive in pushing transgenderism in mass media, so why would they be afraid to discuss what that means in reality for everyday families whose kids are receiving their pro-transgender messaging?”

Shocking new revelations about Iranian assassination plots targeting current and former U.S. officials, including President Donald Trump, have laid bare the dangerous politicization and neglect festering within our national security apparatus. The intentional weaponization of intelligence by Harris not only prevented the U.S. from stopping the invasion of Israel a year ago, but it has also failed to halt this week’s missile bombardment by Iran’s war machine. It’s clearer than ever that their aggression knows no bounds, and the failure to act decisively against these threats only emboldens their deadly ambitions. Despite the undeniable and imminent danger these threats pose, the Harris administration and key intelligence agencies have willfully neglected to address or prevent them, recklessly endangering lives for the sake of political gain.
The national intelligence collection priorities are set by every president. Those skilled in the tradecraft necessary to infiltrate and sweep up intelligence against our adversaries are deployed based on these metrics. President Trump kept it simple: our adversaries including
terrorists, narco-traffickers, the Chinese Communist Party, were at the top of the pyramid. Harris and Biden have reversed these priorities, publicly declaring the existential threats of our time to be climate change, DEI, and stopping ‘white rage.’ The result: new world wars exploding, hostages being taken, and innocent civilians being killed.
U.S. intelligence agencies have long been aware of Iranian plots to assassinate President Trump on American soil, with Secretary Blinken even admitting that these threats have been “intensely tracked for a long time.” Yet, despite this prolonged awareness, two assassination attempts on President Trump have already unfolded, his campaign has been successfully hacked by Iran, and one would-be assassin has brazenly called for Iran’s leaders to order his murder. This isn’t just a lapse in security—it’s a staggering failure of leadership, leaving President Trump a clear target while the administration continues to turn a blind eye.
The Biden-Harris administration and key intelligence agencies have willfully ignored the clear and present danger posed by Iranian assassination plots, allowing political motives to override national security. These agencies have not just failed—they’ve deliberately chosen not to act, leaving President Trump and other U.S. officials vulnerable. This reckless abandonment of duty has placed American lives in the crosshairs, all for the sake of political expediency. It’s a betrayal of the very principles that should guide our intelligence community and a dangerous gamble with the safety of our nation’s leaders.
What is particularly troubling is the intentional failure of the FBI, the intelligence community, and the State Department to proactively safeguard President Trump’s life. This is not just an oversight; it is a deliberate decision to prioritize political objectives over the safety of a former president. Don’t believe me? How is it that Director Wray testified under oath that it was not a bullet that struck President Trump in the head? America’s top cop isn’t that ignorant, he’s just that politically corrupt.
The directors of the Secret Service are no different. For two years, they’ve blatantly ignored or dismissed repeated requests to bolster President Trump’s security, allowing political bias to compromise their duty. This is a glaring example of our intelligence system being weaponized against those it’s meant to protect. To make matters worse, these agency heads didn’t just fail in their responsibilities—they actively lied to Congress about these requests, further entrenching this corrupt, politically-driven agenda. This is not just negligence; it’s a deliberate betrayal of their oath to safeguard American lives.
Iran possesses a range of capabilities that make these assassination threats even more concerning. Their covert action programs are sophisticated, and their cyber capabilities are among the most advanced in the world. These actors have exploited America’s porous southern border to infiltrate the country and establish sleeper cells capable of carrying out attacks on U.S. soil. The potential for these operatives to be activated at any moment is not just a possibility-–it is a reality that we must face.
Despite these dangers, the Biden-Harris administration has failed to take decisive action to neutralize the threat. Instead, they have emboldened Iran through policies that funnel billions of dollars to the regime, enabling it to fund terror proxies across the Middle East and beyond. The administration’s desire to restore the flawed Iran nuclear deal is their HOV lane to a nuclear bomb. Worst of all, they refuse to even call out terrorist organizations like Hamas for what they are—terrorists.
The intelligence community has the tools and the talent to stop these plots before they materialize. Under President Trump, we shattered Iran’s nuclear ambitions and dismantled their terrorist war machine. Now, we must hold accountable those who have deliberately jeopardized the safety of President Trump and the American people. But before there can be any internal accountability, there must be a reckoning—and that reckoning starts on November 5th.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) finds itself in the crosshairs of multiple whistleblower complaints and mounting accusations of gross mismanagement.
Republican firebrand Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) has taken to X to call out FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell, demanding her resignation and promising a brutal grilling before the Oversight Committee.
According to Greene, Criswell will face “worse than the full Kimberly Cheatle treatment” for FEMA’s failures.
On Friday, Elon Musk joined the chorus of voices slamming FEMA’s mishandling of relief efforts.
In a series of explosive posts on X, Musk accused FEMA of obstructing private humanitarian aid, blocking SpaceX engineers from delivering critical Starlink terminals and supplies to devastated areas in North Carolina.
Musk revealed that his team, which had already set up operating bases to help deliver lifesaving resources, was actively blocked by FEMA.
According to Musk, more than 300 Starlink terminals had been deployed to restore communication, but FEMA was impeding progress at every turn.
One of Musk’s engineers shared a disturbing account:
“It’s true. They are now about to shut down the Air space to ‘regulate’ the private choppers we are riding in to deliver Starlink and supplies. We are pushing back with Trump team as well to help us, but not looking good.
We need help to get word out about FEMA, we spoke with Ivanka and handed out Starlinks with her yesterday, but FEMA then showed up and started blocking us.
The largest concern for us here is the FAA throttling flights for our choppers, where they are requiring To/from information and mission now to deliver a discrete code. Doing this takes a long time and very cumbersome to the ops. This is the largest concern and most help we could use.”
This isn’t the first instance of FEMA’s apparent incompetence. Multiple whistleblowers have come forward to expose the agency’s failure to issue deployment orders to first responders, leaving Americans stranded and without help.
In a bombshell letter sent by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, whistleblowers claimed that FEMA withheld crucial pre-disaster funds and left “hundreds if not thousands” of service members and first responders idle as Hurricane Helene ravaged the southeastern U.S.
“As reported and further confirmed by my office, hundreds, if not thousands of service members were deployed by the Department of Defense to North Carolina and have sat idle, waiting for FEMA,” Gaetz said in the letter.
“We have confirmed FEMA employees deployed, on the clock, awaiting orders in hotels. FEMA pre-disaster aid was withheld, exacerbating the emergency. It is also public that NGOs have purchased airline tickets for migrants through the use of FEMA funds,” he added.
While Americans suffer in the wake of this disaster, FEMA’s credibility has hit rock bottom.
Despite Congress approving a $20 billion emergency package on September 25 as part of a temporary spending bill to keep the government funded through December 20, Mayorkas announced on Wednesday that “FEMA does not have sufficient funds to make it through the season.”
According to whistleblowers, FEMA is diverting resources to house illegal immigrants and cover the costs of the Biden administration’s border enforcement failures under the Shelter and Services Program of FEMA.

Earlier this year, Criswell, who oversaw the botched response to the tragedies in East Palestine, Ohio, and Maui, Hawaii, faced questioning before the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee regarding FEMA’s expanding role in addressing non-traditional disasters, including pandemics and the migrant crisis at the US-Mexico border.
The hearing highlighted concerns about FEMA’s ability to manage its core mission amidst these new responsibilities, the potential for fraud and waste in FEMA programs, and the agency’s staffing shortage.
FEMA has obligated over $150 billion for COVID-19 response, and the DHS Inspector General has identified billions in fraud and improper payments.
FEMA has a significant staffing shortage, which the Government Accountability Office (GAO) found to be a 65% operational capacity gap.

Pearl-clutching leaders, biased media, and delusional demonstrators are outraged by the ingenuity and lethality of Israel’s ongoing campaign against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
On Sept 25th, Pentagon’s spokeswoman Sabrina Singh assured reporters that “the U.S. is not providing intelligence to support Israel’s operations.”
Two days later, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken urged Israel to “stop firing” and insisted “the path to diplomacy is still open.” He urged “to use the time that we would have…a cease-fire to see if we can reach a broader diplomatic agreement.”
According toThe Jerusalem Post, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin was “outraged” that Israel gave minimal notice before the airstrike that killed Hezbollah head, Hassan Nasrallah, along with a large group of terrorists gathered in a residential building—after their mobile devices were destroyed in an unprecedented precision attack.
Former CIA Director and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta—on whose watch the U.S. conducted a years-long campaign of “targeted assassinations,” killing thousands of terrorists and innocent bystanders with drone strikes—opined in a Sept 22nd CBS interview that Israel was conducting “a war of terror.” When asked whether Israel’s beeper attack constituted terrorism, Panetta averred: “I don’t think there’s any question that it’s a form of terrorism.”
The celebrations that erupted across Lebanon, Syria, and Iran in the wake of Nasrallah’s demise demonstrate how misguided the U.S. approach is. Key facts— providing context and clarification—are blithely ignored.
Hezbollah’s hands are smeared with American blood. It bombed the U.S. Embassy in Beirut in April 1983. It killed 241 U.S. servicemen and injured 150 on Oct 23, 1983—the deadliest single-day toll for the USMC since the Battle of Iwo Jima.
Between 1982-1992 Hezbollah abducted and tortured 25 U.S. citizens and 104 Westerners. Beirut Station Chief William Buckley was tortured to death in 1985. On June 15, 1985, Robert Stethem, USN, was murdered during the hijacking of TWA flight 84. USMC COL William “Rich” Higgins, serving with the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, was abducted, tortured and murdered in July 1989.
Hezbollah supplied shape-charges that killed and maimed thousands in Iraq and Afghanistan. They trained and equipped ISIS and helped Syria’s Assad violate the Obama Administration’s “red line” using chemical weapons against civilians.
The U.S. should rejoice that Israel is avenging them—something we’ve failed to do, the bounties on Hezbollah leaders notwithstanding.
Hezbollah—designated a terrorist organization in 1997–is one of the world’s most powerful and well-organized. In Central and Latin America, it’s actively engaged with cartels and earns billions from narcotics, weapons, and people- trafficking. This criminal/terrorist nexus is a clear and present danger in our own hemisphere.
In the Levant, Hezbollah has taken over Lebanon, whose military (LAF) the U.S. has trained and equipped for decades. Unfortunately, the LAF is so penetrated by Hezbollah that much of this assistance effectively benefited them.
A ceasefire along the Israeli-Lebanese border was negotiated in 2006. UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) was established by Security Council resolution (UNSCR) 1701 to keep Hezbollah north of the Litani River and prevent it from firing into Israel. UNIFIL’s mandate was last renewed on Aug 28, 2024–as it has been every year since 2006.
The spectacular failure to prevent Hezbollah from firing missiles into Israel—some 8,000 since Oct 8th, 2023, displacing over 70,000 civilians from their homes, schools, and businesses—goes completely unnoticed.
In 2006, Israel went to war to end the then-ongoing Hezbollah barrages. The U.S. and UN orchestrated the ceasefire, urging UNIFIL to enforce it. Current calls for a ceasefire are THE definition of insanity: Doing the same thing repeatedly, naively expecting different results.
Israel is now conducting a multi-phase campaign. Phase 1 destroyed Hezbollah’s command, control, and communications. Phase 2—the air campaign—is ongoing. Both are classic décapitation strikes—akin to the 1967 Six Day War and U.S. Operations Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom. If there is a Phase 3—a ground campaign—it will push Hezbollah north of the Litani, per the 2006 UNSCR.

Israel’s fight isn’t with Lebanon. Hezbollah is an Iranian transplant—a Shia death cult forced upon a majority Christian and Sunni nation. It has destroyed what was the Switzerland of the Middle East. The Christian population has been uprooted—with emigration accelerating after Hezbollah murdered Premier Rafiq Hariri in Feb 2005, sparking the bloody yet futile Cedar Revolution. Thousands of Christians, Sunnis and Druze perished. The LAF should fight to eject this alien invader and restore Lebanese sovereignty.
Arguably, Israel has exquisite intelligence on Hezbollah, with little need for U.S. Intel sharing. What it needs is precision weapons and diplomatic support.
Unlike Gaza, Lebanon is a sovereign country and a member of the UN, captured by an Iranian proxy in order to establish another theocracy and extend the Shia Crescent to the Mediterranean. That is contrary to U.S. strategic interests.
Far from Lebanon, U.S.-allied Saudi Arabia has been waging a brutal war against another Iranian proxy for over a decade. Despite U.S. assistance—and thousands of Yemeni civilians killed and maimed—the Saudis haven’t degraded the Houthis. Like Hezbollah, this proxy poses a major threat to U.S. strategic interests. Destroying the Houthis should be our fight—not only to protect Israel from their ballistic missiles, but to enforce freedom of navigation in critical international waters. It’s a dereliction of duty to allow continued attacks on our Navy and international shipping.
Shia worships martyrs, tracing their sect’s origins to the assassination of Muhammad’s cousin, Ali, in 661 AD. Now Nasrallah and associates have joined that long green line. Their demise affords Lebanon a chance to reclaim its sovereignty and make peace with Israel after 40 years of disastrous Hezbollah dominance.

On Friday evening Secretary of State Antony Blinken broke the news on X that the Biden regime is sending $157 million to the people of Lebanon.
In his announcement on Twitter Blinken bragged that the Biden regime is “committed to supporting those in need and delivering essential aid to displaced civilians, refugees and the communities hosting them.”

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has ordered a suspension of private drone flights in North Carolina’s Hurricane Helene flood zone, only to backtrack amid intense backlash.
The deadly storm has left a trail of destruction across North Carolina, with 94 confirmed deaths in the western part of the state alone. Hundreds remain unaccounted for, and residents are desperate for help.
However, instead of expediting rescue efforts, FEMA and the Biden administration seem more focused on suppressing the efforts of private citizens who stepped up where the federal response has faltered.

Buttigieg and FEMA’s mishandling of this disaster is not just an issue of bureaucratic red tape—it’s a deliberate attempt to control the narrative. FEMA’s lies and obfuscations have left North Carolinians in the dark, both figuratively and literally.
The federal government, instead of empowering its citizens to help, has taken unprecedented steps to stifle their efforts.
Adding insult to injury, Buttigieg’s order was followed by a weak clarification from the Department of Transportation after the backlash became too loud to ignore.
“The USDOT tweet from yesterday was referring to temporary flight restrictions that were in place but were lifted late last night,” a DOT spokesperson told Fox News Thursday.
The spokesperson also added that the FAA “is not banning drones from providing Hurricane Helene disaster relief and recovery assistance.”
“At times, local authorities and law enforcement request the Federal Aviation Administration issue a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) in order to ensure safety for aircraft or drones operating in certain areas,” the spokesperson added.
“These restrictions occur at the request of local authorities or law enforcement. FAA does not put these into place without requests.”
“With proper authorization, drones (and other aircraft) are permitted to operate within a Temporary Flight Restriction. These are only for limited areas identified by law enforcement and local authorities.
“Relief operations, including civilian operations and volunteers, that are coordinated with emergency responders can still access the airspace during these restrictions. Anyone looking to use a drone or other aircraft to assist in Hurricane Helene disaster relief and recovery efforts should coordinate with first responders and law enforcement on scene to ensure they do not disrupt life-saving operations,” according to the statement.
Americans deserve a government that works for them, not against them. It’s time for accountability, transparency, and leadership—qualities sorely lacking in FEMA, the Department of Transportation, and the Biden administration as a whole.

A three-time convicted violent criminal repeatedly threatened to kidnap and kill Judge Aileen Cannon and her family but the Biden-Harris DOJ waited FOUR MONTHS to bring charges and arrest him.
Aileen Cannon is a Trump-appointed judge for the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
Judge Cannon was assigned to Jack Smith’s classified documents case against President Trump.
Eric Rennert, 65, of Illinois, is facing six federal charges and the indictment accuses him of communicating interstate threats and threatening to kidnap, injure, and murder a federal judge.
The indictment did not name Judge Cannon, however, it said a Federal Judge in St. Lucie County received the threats.
According to the indictment, Rennert threatened to kidnap and kill Judge Aileen Cannon on May 25. Three days later on May 28 he repeated the threats.
On July 24, Rennert once again threatened to assault, kidnap and murder Judge Cannon with the intent to impede, intimidate, and interfere with a federal judge while engaged in the performance of official duties.
The third threat in late July was shortly after Judge Cannon dismissed Jack Smith’s classified documents case against President Trump.
Judge Cannon dismissed the ENTIRE case: . “The clerk is directed to close this case,” Cannon wrote.
“Upon careful study of the foundational challenges raised in the Motion, the Court is convinced that Special Counsel’s Smith’s prosecution of this action breaches two structural cornerstones of our constitutional scheme—the role of Congress in the appointment of constitutional officers, and the role of Congress in authorizing expenditures by law,” Cannon wrote in her order.
The Biden-Harris DOJ waited four months until after the deadly threats began to charge Rennert.
Rennert was taken into custody and will be transported to Florida. He has not entered a plea.
On May 25, a 3-time convicted violent criminal (allegedly) threatened to kidnap and murder a federal judge–and kidnap and harm the judge’s family–in St. Lucie County, Florida.

EPA touts rules as necessary to control contamination from wastewater, while critics say the rules go too far and exemplify federal overreach.
Food prices—especially meat and poultry—have skyrocketed in the past four years and could be exacerbated further next year when new EPA rules for meat processors go into effect.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Price Outlook for September reported that beef and veal prices had increased for six straight months, and predicted they will rise 5.2 percent overall in 2024. Poultry prices also rose, although by a smaller percentage, and are expected to rise more before year’s end.
The report traced the rise to factors including pandemic-related supply chain disruptions and the worst inflation since the 1980s.
Next year could see still higher meat and poultry prices at the grocery store, analysts say. That’s because an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposal is expected to put some meat processors out of business, resulting in potential job losses and supply chain disruptions.
The EPA announced a proposed rule change governing effluent, or wastewater, limits for meat and poultry processors in January of this year, followed by public comment in the spring.
The agency’s final rule will go into effect in August 2025.

From the ‘Gucci bag’ to the ‘goat’s horn,’ U.S. weapons smuggling into Mexico is a booming business

Mexico is engulfed in a wave of criminal violence and disputes between rival drug gangs. U.S. weapons are fueling the bloodbath, Mexican authorities say.
Cartels are increasingly arming themselves with more powerful weapons, as they push to outgun rivals and Mexican police, according to U.S. military estimates and security experts. In the northwestern Mexican state of Sinaloa, two factions of the Sinaloa Cartel are using heavy weapons in a turf war for control of the smuggling of fentanyl and other drugs to the U.S., Mexican authorities say. More than 100 people have been killed in the conflict sparked by the abduction of Sinaloa Cartel patriarch Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada. He is now awaiting trial in the U.S. on drug-trafficking charges.
Mexico has seized more than 186,000 weapons since 2006, according to the country’s defense ministry. But that is a fraction of the more than 200,000 weapons a year that transnational criminal organizations smuggle into Mexico just from the U.S., according to the Mexican government.
“It’s an arms race,” said Romain Le Cour, senior expert at Global Initiative, an organization focused on organized crime.
On Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear a gun-industry bid to quash a lawsuit filed by the Mexican government alleging American firearms manufacturers have illegally flooded the country with weapons used by drug cartels. Mexico sued companies including Smith & Wesson Brands; Beretta U.S.A.; Glock; Sturm, Ruger & Co.; and Colt’s Manufacturing. The gun makers said the lawsuit is a stalking horse for gun-control advocates in the U.S.
The industry’s brief described the suit as “a foreign sovereign that is trying to bully the industry into adopting a host of gun-control measures that have been repeatedly rejected by American voters.”
Security experts say that many American weapons go to the drug cartel’s rank and file, but that there are also trophy items—gold-plated customized weapons that a kingpin collects to show status.
Here are some of the more coveted weapons getting smuggled into Mexico from the U.S.

The Minigun
The Minigun, a six-barreled machine-fed weapon that can destroy a small car in minutes, is reserved for defense of high-profile drug leaders, said José Alberto Baena, a former security chief in the southwestern city of Morelia. That includes Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera, the leader of the violent Jalisco New Generation Cartel.
“Not everyone has the ability to use these sophisticated weapons,” Baena said.
The Mexican military seized the first Minigun from a crime scene in 2018, according to military documents released by the nonprofit DDoSecrets.
The weapon is used primarily to repel Mexican special forces or when a gang needs to enter a battle zone to take a predetermined target and exit quickly by eliminating any possibility of return fire. “In an attack with a multibarreled machine gun, that’s thousands of bullets a minute,” Baena said. “So there’s no opportunity to react.”
The Barrett
The Barrett, designed to pierce armor plating and penetrate buildings, is popular among criminal groups who use the weapon to repel military gunships and armored vehicles. Barretts are only assigned to midlevel gang members, some trained in special combat. “They are the people who are actually fighting federal forces,” Baena said.
The belt-fed M249 SAW
The belt-fed M249 SAW is a prized weapon for top drug lords in Mexico, said Timothy Sloan, a former Mexico City attaché for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. It is a light weapon with devastating firepower, because of the number of rounds it holds. It can fire up to 850 bullets a minute and is used to keep the enemy pinned down while other fighters move in and flank the target.
The weapon also denotes status, with the security detail of Mexico’s biggest drug lords wielding the M249 SAW. It’s “like a Gucci bag. It’s more of a way to recognize who’s in charge of the cartel teams. Who’s the boss. Who’s the closest to leadership,” Sloan said.
Cartels are increasingly trying to mimic the look of elite law-enforcement teams, and the M249 SAW is part of that image, Le Cour said. “Drug cartels today want to look very professional,” he said. “They want to look much more like SWAT teams.”
Zapata, “El Jefe” and “El Grito” pistols
Some of the most sought-after collector items are the custom-engraved guns made by weapons manufacturer Colt. Mexico’s government says Colt has designed some of its pistols specifically for the Mexican market, according to the lawsuit the Mexican government has brought against Colt and other manufacturers. The weapons are seen as status symbols for cartel leaders.
Two models that convey cartel rank are the .38 caliber Super “El Jefe” pistol and the 38-caliber Super “El Grito” pistol.
“It’s like having a scepter, or a crown for a king,” said security consultant David Saucedo.
When Mexican authorities captured Gulf Cartel boss José Luis “El Wicho” Zúñiga in 2011, they seized from him a gold-plated, diamond-and-ruby-encrusted Colt .38 Super handgun. Zúñiga had paid $57,000 to have the gun customized, according to Mexico’s lawsuit.
One coveted Colt pistol has a portrait of Mexico’s revolutionary general Emiliano Zapata on one side and on the other a phrase attributed to him: “It is better to die standing than to live on your knees.”
Colt said it didn’t have any part in the design, engraving or marketing of the Emiliano Zapata pistol, without providing additional details. One Emiliano Zapata pistol was used in 2017 to assassinate Miroslava Breach, an investigative journalist, Mexico’s lawsuit said.
“America’s firearms industry isn’t a longstanding criminal accomplice to Mexico’s drug cartels,” the U.S. gun makers told the Supreme Court. Colt said it produces, markets and sells its products according to the relevant U.S. and country-specific legislation.
Rocket launchers
Gangs are also known to use rocket launchers in Mexico smuggled from the U.S. and other countries to take down targets. They include the M72 LAW antitank rocket, which has been used against the Mexican military, and makeshift bulletproof vehicles built by cartel engineers and mechanics, Baena said. The Mexican military seized 127 rocket launchers from 2008 to 2023, according to the Defense Ministry.
The “goat’s horn”
The AK-47 is perhaps the most common assault-style weapon among drug cartels in Mexico, security experts said. The rifle is light, easy to use, easily accessible and relatively cheap, making it a weapon of choice for the rank and file.
“The street thugs know how to operate those,” said Sloan, the former ATF attaché in Mexico. “You can fire a lot of rounds and hopefully hit your target.”
The Beretta
The Beretta .22 pistol is given to the lowest-ranking cartel members, including children recruited to fight for gangs, Saucedo said. The weapon, one of the market’s cheapest, is used for low-stakes assassinations and extortion threats. “They are used to kill a market merchant, a taxi driver,” Saucedo said.
In addition, new recruits are given cheap, 3-D printed weapons, or artisanal weapons that are often inaccurate and aren’t a great loss if the sicario, or assassin, dies in battle.
