“Hey did you see that?” Marty shouted. Barry was behind the wheel.
“What?” They were really moving, now. It felt like ninety miles per hour, but the speedometer was broken so they couldn’t be sure. Barry concentrated on his driving.
“Never mind. –Gone.” Marty said as he watched out the passenger-side window.
Neither man knew, exactly, why they were going so fast. To the people on the street they looked like getaway bandits in that old blue ’71 Chevy. They pointed at the car as it flashed by and then it was gone. From inside, the world was a blur. Blur. Blur. Marty saw what they were passing and Barry saw what was coming, but not too far ahead. He tried to anticipate the curves, but he felt like he was just hanging on. He didn’t want to tell his buddy he was getting nervous. He didn’t want to say it felt like they were going to crash.
“I think I just saw Jesus Christ standing on that corner back there,” said Marty. He lit a smoke and cracked the window. The sound of the wind in the cab combined with the rumble of the engine and the tires to make an urgent roar.
“Funny,” replied Barry, “I just saw Jesus in the rear-view.”
“Is it my imagination or are we accelerating?” Marty had to push the words out now to be heard above the noise.
“Yeah, it feels like we’re going faster,” Barry replied. “My foot isn’t even on the gas.”
The car barreled on. Scenery isn’t much scenery if you don’t get a chance to get a good look at it, Marty thought. Then it’s something else. Then it’s just raw information left undigested, sitting in your gut to be processed later. If you can remember it.
Seconds raced to minutes, days and months as the Chevy went faster and faster. The car radio stopped working because the broadcast signals could no longer keep up. Still, they left the static on for the nostalgia of it.
Then, when the car began to approach the speed of light everything became quieter and felt slower. Barry was no longer afraid of crashing. They wondered if they could soon stop and get out and stretch their legs.
“Maybe we should wait a bit to see what happens,” said Marty as he lit another cigarette.

Harrowing new footage has captured the moment an alleged Venezuelan gang seized control of an apartment complex in Aurora, Colorado.
The heavily-armed mob are seen storming through the residence brandishing guns in the video that emerged on Wednesday. A man in a hoodie lugs a high-powered rifle and pounds on a door in the building, while several others wield pistols.

A 16-times deported illegal alien charged with killing a 64-year-old Colorado man will serve a maximum of one year in prison after radical Democrat prosecutors sought a lenient sentence.
Ignacio Cruz-Mendoza, 47, was arrested and charged in June with vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, reckless driving, and driving without a commercial driver’s license in connection with the death of 64-year-old Scott Miller.
Another victim was seriously injured in the crash on Highway 285 South near Conifer.
Cruz-Mendoza was driving a semi-truck and working for an American trucking company even though he had no driver’s license at the time of the deadly crash.
Democrat prosecutors in Jefferson County charged the illegal alien with misdemeanor traffic violations!
This is far more lenient than similar crashes involving semi-truck drivers.
Recall that the same DA’s office sentenced an American truck driver in Colorado to 110 years in prison after a deadly accident. Colorado’s governor had to step in and reduce that prison sentence because it was so extreme.

In a damning revelation, an undercover video released by Louder with Crowder’s MugClub Undercover unit has exposed the United Nations’ deep-rooted fears of a second term for former President Donald Trump.
The undercover video features Jorge Paoletti, an associate legal officer in the treaty section of the UN’s Office of Legal Affairs.
He openly admitted that the UN is “terrified” of another Trump administration and that the organization’s globalist ambitions directly clash with Trump’s America First policies.
Paoletti: One of the defining features of this MAGA movement is the ultranationalism. It’s a movement that is deeply nationalistic. It’s American first, Make America Great Again, America, America, America, we hate immigrants, we hate everybody that is not us, that doesn’t think like us, look like us, right? That’s the central element.
One of the main enemies [of the MAGA movement] are what they call the globalists. I’m the definition of a globalist…I’m not sure the United Nations as an institution is going to survive a second term by Donald Trump.

Analysis shows 155,000 additional deaths reported after mRNA shots were unleashed on public.
A leading data expert has issued a “bone-chilling” warning after reviewing the numbers and causes of death across America since the COVID-19 pandemic and the mRNA shots – now proven to have many and dangerous side effects – hit Americans.
A report at Slay News explains it is John Beaudoin, a renowned statistician, who found an explosive surge in deaths from fatal kidney conditions following the advent of mRNA treatments.
The report said, “Beaudoin calculated that there have been 155,000 excess deaths caused by acute kidney injury (AKI) since late 2020 in the United States alone.”
He looked at government numbers for a variety of factors, including state reports on excess deaths.
“As Beaudoin explains in a new interview, excess death is the figure above the expected baseline, not the total, meaning an extra 155k Americans died from AKI,” the report said.
While the death toll had been documented to have had no significant changes for years, suddenly they surged, 200% above normal, for 2021. And they were up 300% in 2022.
Then, in 2023, they continued to surge “alarmingly.”
Beaudoin explained, in the report, his “investigations prove that only COVID mRNA shots, and possibly COVID-19 hospital protocols, could be responsible for the staggering excess deaths from kidney failure,” the report said.
“There are more life years lost to acute renal failure alone than COVID, than polio, than smallpox … than anything in the past 100 years in the United States, except for World War II,” he said.
The report noted fellow data expert Ed Dowd confirmed the trend.
“Using data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) database, Dowd estimates 153K excess deaths nationwide from acute kidney injury alone over the last few years.”
Previous studies have suggested deaths “from all causes” actually are up significantly among those who were given the mRNA treatment.

The border crisis orchestrated by border czar Kamala Harris continues to produce shocking and disturbing incidents, including those involving innocent children.
FOX 5 San Diego reported that several migrants were caught trying to board school buses filled with helpless children in southern California this week. According to the outlet, the invaders attempted to board buses along two school routes twice this week at the stop near Highway 94 and Cochera, which services the Jamul-Dulzura Union School District in San Diego County.
The school district’s Superintendent, Liz Bystedt, released a letter to parents revealing the first attempt happened Tuesday afternoon along the Route A route when three migrants were walking in the middle of the highway, attempting to halt one of the district’s school buses and barge their way on.
The following incident occurred Wednesday along Route B and involved 20 migrants trying to force their way onto the bus as it picked students up from the same stop.
Fortunately, the bus drivers ensured no migrants boarded the bus and the children were unharmed.
Bystedt added in her letter that “for the safety of students and bus drivers,” buses will now drive past stops with migrants nearby and to the next one on the route.
These disturbing incidents have terrified parents, knowing that their vulnerable children could have easily been abducted and never seen again. One parent, Nicole Cardinale, revealed to FOX 5 San Diego that her eight-year-old son’s school bus was affected this week and described what unfolded as “really scary.”
“He said these adults – they weren’t kids – had backpacks on, and they were trying to get on his bus,” Cardinale explained. “He said there was a lot of them.”

The school district has reported the case to the US Border Patrol, California Highway Patrol, and San Diego County Sheriff’s Department to determine whether any criminal acts occurred in either incident.
Kimberly King, the media relations director for the sheriff’s department, released the following statement to FOX 5 San Diego:
The San Diego Sheriff’s Office was made aware of this incident today. We are conducting a follow-up investigation to determine if a criminal act has occurred. The Sheriff’s Office takes issues regarding student safety very seriously and are working with the school district in order to keep the students and our community safe.

In the final months before the 2024 presidential election, three Republicans on the Georgia State Election Board are making new election rules that elected officials and experts in both major parties warn could sow misinformation and chaos in November. Some critics even worry the rule changes could be used to alter election results outright ? and the board may yet make even more changes before the election.
“They are a mess,” Georgia Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger told USA TODAY of the board’s efforts to change vote certification requirements so close to Election Day.
One of the latest rules, which passed Aug. 19, requires county investigations of even minor discrepancies between the number of ballots cast and the number of voters in a precinct before certifying the results. Critics worry that could cause delays or even failures to certify.
“Any effort to delay also is an opportunity to infuse doubt and suspicion and accusations, and we saw that happen in 2020,” Kathy Boockvar, a Democrat who served as Pennsylvania’s Secretary of the Commonwealth from Jan. 2019 to Feb. 2021, told USA TODAY.

The board passed that rule just four days after Raffensperger – who famously resisted Donald Trump’s request to “find” nearly 12,000 votes to reverse Joe Biden’s 2020 Georgia victory ? issued a press release denouncing its ongoing activity so close to November. “Activists seeking to impose last-minute changes in election procedures outside of the legislative process undermine voter confidence and burden election workers,” Raffensperger stated.
The board’s actions prompted a Monday lawsuit by Democrats and Georgia county election officials, who want a court to make clear ahead of the election that state deadlines for certifying the results are mandatory, and the new rules don’t change that fact.
The board is also set to consider a requirement next month for local officials to hand-count every ballot before certifying results.
The three members on the five-person board, Dr. Janice Johnston, Rick Jaffares, and Janelle King, became a majority voting bloc in May when King replaced another Republican board member who resisted some efforts to sow doubt about Joe Biden’s 2020 victory in Georgia.
Since then, the trio has been praised by Republican presidential nominee Trump as “pit bulls” fighting for “victory,” while passing a series of rules that change Georgia’s vote-counting process in the final months before the November election, including a requirement passed on Aug. 6 for counties to conduct a “reasonable inquiry” before certifying results.

One of the most popular booths at this year’s Minnesota State Fair bears a simple sign: “Never Walz.” The booth offers t-shirts and prizes for fairgoers – all emblazoned with the “Never Walz” logo. The line for the booth grows so long at times that it poses traffic problems for police officers patrolling the fairgrounds.
Bryan Strawser, chairman of the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus, is not surprised by the booth’s popularity. He’s watched Gov. Tim Walz’s career since the vice-president candidate first served in Congress. Walz, Strawser told the Second Amendment Foundation, poses a clear and present danger to the Second Amendment rights of the entire country, should he and Kamala Harris take control of the White House.
“If elected, Walz would become more effective at pushing gun control than any vice president we’ve had in decades because he can speak the language. He’s a hunter – that part’s not fake. He really does hunt,” Strawser said. “People will perceive him as having more credibility on the issue. Biden and Harris are not gun owners, but he is. He could win some folks over who don’t know any better.”
When Walz served in Congress from 2007 to 2019, he was an A-rated, NRA-endorsed congressman.
“He never voted for any anti-gun legislation, and he even celebrated the Heller decision with us,” Strawser said of the landmark 2008 Supreme Court opinion that said individuals have a Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.
Everything changed when Walz ran for governor. Another candidate was endorsed by the Democratic Party – known in the state as the Minnesota Democrat-Farmer-Labor party, or DFL. Walz could only run to the left of the DFL-endorsed candidate in the primary, Strawser said, and this included changing his long-held positions on guns.
“He completely flipped,” Strawser said. “Even before the state convention, he came out in favor of red-flag laws, an assault weapon ban, raising the purchase age to 21 and more. As governor, he proposed universal background checks, raising the age to 21, magazine restrictions and a ban on assault weapons.”
Strawser said he and his members have little doubt that if elected, Walz will call for more restrictive gun laws at the national level.
“I think he will push for magazine restrictions, bans on certain rifles, national universal background checks and, if he can get it through, raising the age to 21 for all firearm purchases,” he said.
Strawser warns that Walz is hard to pin down on his positions, but he should not be underestimated. He is a serious politician, and he is known to have a temper.
“Our members think he’s a political chameleon. You cannot trust what he says about the Second Amendment because of how he’s flipped. If you talk to Democratic gun owners like him, they too worry about how far he will go. We have a chapter of liberal gun owners here. They are very disappointed with him. They can’t get him to change his positions, and they can’t figure out why he flipped,” he said. “It’s hard to know what Walz really believes. He was in Congress for 12 years and told constituents he believed in the Second Amendment. Now, he’s on the other end of that equation.”
Based on his actions as Minnesota’s governor, Strawser said it’s not too difficult to determine how Walz would infringe upon the Second Amendment as vice president.
“Walz would have signed any gun-control bill they put in front of him,” he said.

Last week, a Federal District Court Judge in California ruled that switchblades are not “protected arms” under the Second Amendment, but now the Massachusetts Judicial Supreme Court has ruled that they are protected.
The case, Commonwealth v. Canjura, involves a man arrested for carrying a switchblade in Boston, Massachusetts. State law defines a switchblade as “a knife with a blade that is over 1.5 inches long and has an automatic spring release device that allows the blade to be released from the handle.” The punishment for carrying a switchblade can be up to five years in prison.
On July 3. 2020, Boston police responded to a report of a man and woman fighting. When police arrived, they found David Canjura preventing his girlfriend from leaving the scene. The police separated the parties. Mr. Canjura’s girlfriend told officers he took her phone and would not return it. Two other people came forward, stating they saw Canjura push his then-girlfriend against a wall. Police would arrest the man and search him. They discover an orange firearm-shaped knife with a spring-assisted blade. They charged him for carrying a switchblade knife and for domestic violence.
Prosecutors would drop all charges except for carrying a switchblade charge. During a pretrial hearing, Canjura’s attorney would file for a motion to dismiss because he argued that switchblades were “protected arms” under the Second Amendment and the Massachusetts law banning the knives was unconstitutional. The motion would fail, and Canjura would then tender “an admission to sufficient facts for a finding of guilt on the charge,” but he would reserve his right to appeal, believing the motion to dismiss should have been granted. He would appeal, and the Massachusetts Judicial Supreme Court would approve his application for direct appellate review.
Mr. Canjura’s lawyer argued that switchblades are “protected arms” under the Second Amendment. He stated the knives are in common use for lawful purposes and not “dangerous and unusual.” This argument is similar to the statements made by Knife Rights in Knife Rights Inc. v. Bonta. In that case, the judge ruled that “common use” is actually “common use for self-defense” and “dangerous and unusual” is actually “dangerous or unusual.” Luckily for Canjura, the Massachusetts Judicial Supreme Court had a very different idea from the California judge.
Massachusetts tried to argue that the plain text of the Second Amendment doesn’t cover knives because “arms” only applies to firearms. If the judge signed onto this argument, the defendant would fail the first step on Bruen, which says a law must be consistent with the original text of the Second Amendment. The court would not need to review the case further, but the judges rejected the state’s arguments and stated that knives were “arms” during the founding era. The defendant also used the 1.2 million switchblades sold yearly to prove “common use.” Unlike the California judge, these judges accepted the figure without attaching “for self-defense” to the legal standard. The defense also argued that switchblades might be “dangerous,” but there is nothing to make them more “dangerous and unusual” than other knives. The judges agreed.
“In the most basic sense, all weapons are ‘dangerous’ because they are designed for the purpose of bodily assault or defense,” the court wrote. “As such, general dangerousness of a weapon is irrelevant where the weapon belongs to a class of arms commonly used for self-defense. Consequently, spring-loaded folding knives cannot be categorically prohibited just because they are, in everyday terms, ‘dangerous.’ At the very least, for purposes of this analysis, ‘dangerous’ weapons must feature uniquely dangerous qualities that are disproportionate to their use for self-defense.”
Since part one of Bruen was satisfied, part two shifts the burden to the state to prove that the law is consistent with the history and tradition of the Second Amendment. Usually, courts use the ratification date of the Second Amendment as the founding era, which is 1791. The farther from that date, the less weight a law has in regard to arms. The Massachusetts Judicial Supreme Court actually gave a break to the state by allowing laws from the ratification date of the 14th Amendment, which was 1868, to be considered part of the founding era, but the state still failed at producing relevant historical analogs.
Massachusetts relied on laws surrounding bowie knives from the 1830s as its analogs. In Rahimi, the Supreme Court said that a historical analog doesn’t have to be a historical twin, but it must be similar. The Massachusetts Judicial Supreme Court didn’t believe that the bowie law knife was good enough because it dealt with a fixed-blade knife, and a switchblade knife is closer to a folding knife. They reasoned that if the founders wanted to ban folding knives, they would have since they were used during the founding era. The court ruled that the state failed step two of Bruen.
The state wanted the Massachusetts Judicial Supreme Court to remand the case back to the lower court if they felt the lower court erred in denying the motion to dismiss. The court was unwilling to remand the case to give the state another shot. Instead, the court reversed the lower court’s ruling and approved the motion to dismiss. This legal victory doesn’t knock down the Massachusetts switchblade law but sets up a future challenge and a powerful argument for dismissal for those charged with carrying a switchblade.

Gang’s Takeover of Apartment Complex is Why People Need ‘Assault Weapons’

When people ask why we need so-called assault weapons, most of us default to point out that we don’t have to illustrate a need to exercise our rights. That is completely true and I’m one of those who has said it time and time again. We don’t, nor should we. If we’re required to show a need, then it’s not a right in the first place. That was the core issue at the heart of the Bruen case, really. The state demanded someone show a need and the Supreme Court said you can’t do that.

That extrapolates out to things like AR-15s.
But from time to time, we also see a situation where it makes it very clear that yes, there is a need for such firearms.
In this case, we’re going to talk about an armed gang taking over an apartment complex in Aurora, Colorado.
New video has surfaced showing alleged gang violence at an apartment complex home to some migrants in Aurora.
The video shows the group entering an apartment building with several weapons and then making their way through a door. The scenario took place at The Edge at Lowry apartments, which became a reported crime hotspot in that city.
In the video, men can be seen walking up a stairwell carrying weapons. They can be heard speaking Spanish.
The owners of the video said it was taken shortly before a shootout at the complex that left one person seriously injured. Several vehicles were also damaged by gunfire.
All of the people appear to be carrying rifles and handguns, except for one of the men who can be seen talking on a cell phone. They all then gather around a door and go in.
Another video clip shows what appears to be two men forcing a door open. But what or who they were searching for is not clear.
The video was shot in the building where Cindy and Edward Romero lived until Wednesday. FOX31 caught up with them as they loaded up their stuff and moved out.
“It’s been a nightmare and I can’t wait to get out of here,” former resident Cindy Romero said.

The gang appears to be made up of Venezuelan “immigrants” who have taken to terrorizing the residents of this complex, which houses a lot of other immigrants. There’s no mention of whether they’re legal or not, though I think we all know what the gang’s status actually is.
Yet there are also a lot of Americans there who are being terrorized by this gang.
While this appears to be a complex where people aren’t exactly flush with cash, the truth of the matter is that Americans have a right to keep and bear arms and our financial status is irrelevant. These people have a right to defend themselves, and with the numbers of bad guys we’re seeing here, and the level of armament–all of which is likely illegally obtained–if these bad guys decide to get even rowdier than they already are, it’s not likely to be a good thing to be relegated to defending yourself with a 10-round magazine, much less a bolt-action rifle and revolver like some people want to relegate us to.
For all the vilification of so-called assault weapons we see in the media, they do fill a niche in a self-defense strategy. It might not necessarily be ideal for a lot of circumstances, but when it is ideal, nothing else will do the job nearly as well.

Fifth Circuit Rules Illegal Immigrants Don’t Get Second Amendment Protections

The right to keep and bear arms is a human right. It’s no different than the right to worship as one sees fit or to speak freely, though those particular rights are treated much differently in this country.

Yet there’s a question. Do illegal immigrants have the right to keep and bear arms?
One might argue that there’s nothing specifically prohibiting them from having it in the Second Amendment. Further, if it’s a human right, wouldn’t they possess it by virtue of being human?
Then there’s the flip side, that the Bill of Rights protects the rights of Americans and those who are here lawfully, thus not applying to those who crossed the border illegally.
And a court figured the latter was the correct argument.
Illegal migrants do not have the right to bear arms under the Second Amendment, a federal appeals court in New Orleans has ruled, rejecting arguments by a Mexican man who was convicted of illegally possessing a handgun and argued that the ban was unconstitutional.
A three-judge panel of the New Orleans-based 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled on Tuesday that federal prohibitions on illegal immigrants owning firearms was lawful, and Second Amendment rights do not apply to those who have entered the country illegally.
The ruling came in an appeal by Jose Paz Medina-Cantu, who had been arrested by Border Patrol agents in Texas in 2022 and charged with illegally possessing a handgun and unlawfully re-entering the country after being previously deported.
Medina-Cantu pleaded guilty and was sentenced last year to 15 months in prison, but he preserved the right to argue on appeal that the gun charge violated his right to keep and bear arms under the Second Amendment.
His lawyers based their argument on the 2022 landmark New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen decision by the Supreme Court’s 6-3 conservative majority that established a new standard to determine whether a law violates the Second Amendment.
The Bruen ruling required gun regulations to be “consistent with this nation’s historical tradition of firearm regulation” and the three-judge panel said the Supreme Court’s recent rulings on gun rights “did not unequivocally abrogate our precedent that the plain text of the Second Amendment does not encompass illegal aliens.”

I’m very much on the side of gun rights being human rights, but we need to be realistic here as well. Illegal immigrants are already in violation of federal law. The firearm was obtained unlawfully. Those two facts alone make him a criminal and thus one of the kinds of people the courts have generally held can be prohibited from owning firearms.
There’s also an argument that illegal immigrants aren’t part of the political body of the United States and thus the preservation of rights enshrined in the Constitution doesn’t apply to them, and that’s an argument put forward by a lot of people better versed on the law than me, so I’m inclined to take the argument as valid.
Plus, Rahimi found that analogs don’t have to be perfect, and there were laws prohibiting the carrying of guns by certain people deemed to be dangerous. It’s not difficult to put an illegal immigrant who is already violating our laws in such a category.
I’m pretty sure this isn’t the last we’ll hear of this case, and it’ll be interesting to see how other courts rule going up the judicial change, though I doubt we’ll see anything much different going forward.

Do You Live In A Top-10 Gun-Friendly State?

We all know that governments in some states have great respect for the Second Amendment, while leaders in other states don’t give a second thought to passing yet another law that infringes on citizens’ right to keep and bear arms.
But do you know how your state ranks in relation to the other states in the union? Do you live in a Top 10 state, or are you stuck in one in the bottom 10?
Well, the folks at Ammo.com can help you out with that assessment. In fact, they recently posted a listing of the “Most Gun-Friendly States in 2024,” and some of the rankings might surprise you. I know they did me.
One of the surprises to me was that while most that are high on the list are in the South, Midwest or West, the Number 1 most gun-friendly state was in, of all places, the Northeast. That’s right. New Hampshire is number one.
“New Hampshire is Number 1 thanks to its incredibly relaxed gun laws, low crime rates and lack of state sales tax,” the report stated. “Governor Chris Sununu recently signed into law a bill that restricts the state’s law enforcement from enforcing federal laws that infringe on an individual’s right to gun ownership. Essentially, New Hampshire seems to be the best state for gun owners, with low crime rates and minimal restrictions on firearms and purchases.”
Number 2 on the list was West Virginia—not quite as much of a surprise to me as New Hampshire was.
“As of July 2021, most firearms and ammunition are exempt from the state’s sales tax, but not every firearm gets a pass on taxes,” the report stated. “West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice recently signed legislation that allows CHL holders to carry firearms on college campuses. Legislative actions that remove firearm restrictions are a good indicator that this state will remain on this list for some time.”
Number 3 on the list was Arkansas, which also had a lot going for it as gun ownership is concerned, according to the report.
“Arkansans are lawfully permitted to open or conceal carry firearms under the state’s concealed carry legislationas long as they’re over 18 years of age and legally allowed to possess firearms,” the report stated. “Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders currently intends to sign legislation that solidifies Arkansans’ rights to keep and bear arms. Based on her previous statements and track record, Arkansas will remain high on this list.”
Rounding out the top 10 gun-friendly states, according to the Ammo.com rankings, were Montana (4), Mississippi (5), Missouri (6), Oklahoma (7), Texas (8), South Dakota (9) and North Dakota (10).
If you don’t find your state on that list, you still have a chance to be in the top half of gun-friendly states. Rounding out the top 25 are Idaho (11), Wyoming (12), Alaska (13), South Carolina (14), Alabama (15), Kentucky (16), Tennessee (17), Florida (18), Louisiana (19), Indiana (20), Georgia (21), Iowa (22), Kansas (23), Arizona (24) and Utah (25).
As for that bottom 10—presumably the 10 Gun-Unfriendliest states—they were Hawaii (50), California (49), New York (48), Illinois (47), New Jersey (46), Connecticut (45), Maryland (44), Massachusetts (43), Rhode Island (42) and Michigan (41).
Ammo.com took into account a number of factors in determining the rankings, including current gun laws, current purchase laws, CCW guidelines, CCW reciprocity, 2A-centric taxes, current legislators’ past voting history, current governors’ voting history and stand your ground laws.
If you don’t like where your state landed on the list, take it up with the folks at Ammo.com. Or, better yet, get to work fixing your state’s 2A problems. After all, it is an election year. You can also always move, but not many of us want to do that.

PLA Will ‘Reunify’ Taiwan: Chinese General Confronted Sullivan Just Before Surprise Xi Meeting

Chinese leader Xi Jinping met with US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan on Thursday at the end of the latter’s three day trip to Beijing, which is a first such trip for a sitting US national security adviser in eight years.
But the most interesting and tense moment came just before that, when Sullivan met one of China’s vice chairs of the Central Military Commission, Gen. Zhang Youxia. The top general confronted Sullivan on growing US support for Taiwan’s military. Zhang informed Sullivan that reunification of Taiwan with the mainland is “the mission and responsibility” of the Chinese PLA military and that it won’t be deterred. Sullivan looked nervous and unsettled throughout the whole encounter, with Zhang confident and beaming.

“China demands that the United States stop military collusion between the U.S. and Taiwan, stop arming Taiwan and stop spreading false narratives about Taiwan,” the statement issued by the defense ministry said.
Sullivan meekly opted for a diplomatic and conciliatory tone in response, saying “it is rare that we have the opportunity to have this kind of exchange” and underscored “the need for us to responsibly manage U.S.-China relations.”
A follow-up White House also statement sought to emphasize the two sides had “recognized the progress in sustained, regular military-military communications over the past 10 months.”
As for statements in the wake of Sullivan’s rare meeting with President Xi, there were the usual expressions of managing competition and avoiding direct conflict:
“We believe that competition with China does not have to lead to conflict or confrontation. The key is responsible management through diplomacy,” he told reporters at a news conference shortly before leaving Beijing.
“While great changes have taken place in the two countries and in China-U.S. relations, China’s commitment to the goal of a stable, healthy and sustainable China-U.S. relationship remains unchanged,” Xi said.

“President Biden is committed to responsibly managing this consequential relationship to ensure that competition does not veer into conflict or confrontation, and to work together where our interests align,” Sullivan continued, echoing the familiar theme.
But the fact that he was confronted by the PLA delegation and was essentially told off concerning the hot button Taiwan issue is likely going to be used by Republicans back home to point out the weaknesses of the Biden White House’s foreign policy.
A main campaign theme of Trump is that the world no longer “respects” America, and the hawks will most certainly highlight Sullivan’s cowering as a PLA general informed him essentially that ‘we will take Taiwan’.

As for the surprise meeting with Xi, the Chinese leader’s tone was reported to be surprisingly conciliatory, perhaps realizing he’s dealing with a lame duck administration.
“Earlier on Thursday it was revealed that the two sides had agreed to plan a call between Xi and Biden,” The Guardian reports. However, there are “no known plans for the two leaders to meet again in person before the US election in November.”

Strangling Iran: What holds true in the West Bank, holds in Gaza
The IDF’s actions on Wednesday in Jenin, Tulkarm, Tubas, and the Far’a refugee camp in the Jordan Valley indicate that it has learned that lesson. The failed suicide bombing attack last week in Tel Aviv was the catalyst for implementing this lesson.

The country heaved a sigh of relief at its good fortune for this miracle, at having averted a mass-casualty incident.

That an explosive device of this magnitude was smuggled into Israel showed that the country needed to take the growing terrorist infrastructure developing in Judea and Samaria quite seriously. It also needs to take threats from Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, which took responsibility for the bomber, seriously as well.…
Automatic weapons and crude pipe bombs have been replaced in the hands of terrorists by powerful improvised explosive devices (IEDs) used against troops conducting counter-terror actions in the West Bank. These IEDs, including the one that Muna wanted to explode in Tel Aviv, reveal a terrorist infrastructure developing – including IED manufacturing labs – directly under Israel’s nose that Iran could use as yet another pressure point against the country.
This is something that Israel cannot allow, and last week’s attempted suicide bombing set alarm bells ringing regarding how far Iran’s program had advanced and convincing policymakers of the need now to quash it.
The IDF’s action on Wednesday was reportedly the most significant military maneuver in the West Bank since Operation Defensive Shield which began in March of 2002, following the Netanya Park Hotel Passover Eve massacre where a suicide bombing attack killed 30 people at a Passover seder.
The 42-day Operation Defensive Shield that began in March of 2002 was a turning point, and Israel did degrade terrorist capabilities. But this was not a one-off deal, with Israel just leaving the territory after the operation.
Rather, it takes continuous work to ensure that the terrorist infrastructure does not reappear, what security officials continuously refer to as “mowing the lawn.” What this predicts is that when the intense fighting stops in Gaza, the continuous war against terrorists – preventing the resurrection of a terrorist infrastructure there – will continue for years, if not decades.

Airline flight cancellation chaos to Israel is unsustainable
Major airlines cancelling flights is a new phenomenon that Israel doesn’t seem to have a solution for.
A recent article at The Jewish Insider noted that US Representative Ritchie Torres (D-NY) has sent a letter to “American Airlines, Delta Airlines, and United Airlines expressing his concerns over their decisions to suspend flights to Israel without FAA guidance that such flights are unsafe.”
This is an important development because the airline cancellation chaos in Israel has become unsustainable and is needlessly punishing people who fly to and from Israel without proper guidelines or transparency.…
It’s important to point out that these cancellations were not just for a day or a week, but they are occurring for months. Now it appears these cancellations mean Israel has been cut off from international travel by many airlines for most of 2024.…
There is no transparency or reasoning behind the mass cancellations. The fact that Iran decides to threaten Israel should not become the new norm for travel chaos in Israel. The fact that Hamas chose to begin a genocidal war on Israel was not a good reason for international carriers to punish Israel for the crimes of Hamas.
The decision to cancel the flights is not due to the emergence of a new rocket threat from Hamas. Hamas is now degraded, and its capabilities are weakened. Hezbollah and Iran possess rockets. However, terrorist groups like Hezbollah should not be allowed to dictate to the region where people are allowed to travel. This is handing Hezbollah and Iran a win.
It is clear that the latest war has begun a new trend. The decision by airlines to cancel flights is a new phenomenon. It didn’t happen in previous wars for such a long period of time. The logic behind the cancellations is not clear. There are few affordable alternatives.
Israel is becoming isolated through these decisions, and this is not a good message to send to countries facing terrorist threats or threats by authoritarian regimes. Given the fact that Israel has the best air defenses in the world and is supported by the US and the West, the decision by Western commercial airlines to cancel flights for long periods of time does not bode well.
