This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

    He’s one of my favourite analysts because of the way his mind works. He is a trained scientist who applies his logic to various fields including finance. He is plugged into other successful people who influence his outlook. For example, he knows a prominent financial guy who started a successful prepper company. Now this guy says he will leave the U.S. before the shtf, rather than use the services of his own prepper company. Hmm.

    Why did the Dems not take Kennedy? He could beat Trump. This fact says a lot. An hour of pretty good wisdom:

    Old Feuds Resurface in Gaza as Hamas Control Fades

    Widespread murders and looting are sweeping through Gaza in the wake of the war, as longstanding tribal feuds resurface, including attempts to settle old scores.

    Asharq Al-Awsat reported that “Many people have been killed in incidents related to the First Intifada in 1987, while others have died in family disputes.”

    In various criminal conflicts across Gaza, 21 people were murdered in May and at least 14 people in June.

    One recent victim was Mahmoud Nashbat, who was a commander of Fatah’s Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades. Nashbat was killed in Deir al-Balah by assailants affiliated with Hamas.

  11. British Army Buys Israeli Anti-Drone System

    Amid calls from some UK politicians to BAN arms sales TO Israel, the British armed forces have procured new Israeli Smart Shooter rifle add-ons which are said to improve precision on the battlefield.

    The system is designed to ensure that each round hits its target by providing a standard rifle with precision algorithms that can acquire, track and hit small drones.

    British Army officer Col. (ret.) Richard Kemp wrote on X: “I have fired with this sight in Israel and it is an outstanding system which will give our troops an edge including against attack drones.”

    Kemp added: “Makes shooting a terrorist in close proximity to civilians safer, i.e., far less likely to accidentally hit civilians.”

    He continued: “The UK does not supply weapons to Israel, only technical components, and UK security is the net beneficiary of this trade as well as our close intelligence relationship.”

    Austin Private Wealth, LLC, a Texas-based financial planning company, is being scrutinized after a social media post went viral that claimed they had put options on as many as 12 million shares of DJT shares just one day before the assassination attempt on Donald Trump.

    The investment firm denied the allegations and has now blamed a filing error for this controversial action.

    According to CA Club India:

    A Put Option is an investment made by someone who expects a company’s Stock Price to fall. People who engage in Inside Trading buy Put Options can make 5X or, sometimes even 100X profits (depends on how quickly the stock plummets).

    If Trump did die in the assassination attempt, his company would have become worthless. It’s stock would have become Zero in a day. The people who bought Put Options would have made billions in profits.

    According to the viral post, Austin Private Wealth’s alleged short position on July 12 was the largest among those listed—the second-biggest was Citadel’s 1.677 million short in May.

    The filing date is July 12th, the day before the assassination attempt. With reportedly around $1 billion in assets under management, this is allegedly by far the largest put placed by the firm, according to Finbold.

    “Researcher” Josh Walkos wrote on X:

    To make things even more interesting, my source tipped me off with the following two images from their Bloomberg terminal. The screenshot on the left shows the Put by Austin Private Wealth LLC, that was taken earlier this morning. It shows the 120,000 puts. As you can see their position is by far the largest, the next closest is Citadel Advisors with 16,770.

    Here is where it gets interesting, the screenshot to the right was taken later in the day and poof, Austin Private Wealth LLC is nowhere to be found. Why?

    On July 16, the firm amended the filing.

    According to the firm, the July 12 filing pertained to activity in the second quarter. There was no short.

    The firm released the following statement:

    The SEC filing which showed that Austin Private Wealth shorted a large number of shares of Trump Media & Technology Group Corp (DJT) was incorrect and we immediately amended it as soon as we learned of the error.

    No client of APW holds, or has ever held, a put on DJT in the quantity initially reported. The correct holding amount was 12 contracts, or 1,200 shares — not 12 million shares, as was filed in error. In submitting the required report for the second quarter of 2024, a multiplier was applied by a third-party vendor that increased the number of the shares by a multiple of 10,000 for all options contracts (not just DJT). We did not catch the error before approving the filing.

    We filed the report on July 12 to reflect our positions on June 28. We amended it on July 16.

    We deeply regret this error and the concern it has caused, especially at such a fraught moment for our nation. We are committed to full transparency and maintaining the trust of our clients. As such, we are reviewing our internal procedures and our processes with the third-party vendor that assists with SEC filings to better understand how this happened and avoid similar issues moving forward.

    Social media users also scrutinized Austin Private Wealth’s investors. The latest 13F filings reveal a star-studded list of top investors, including influential radical leftists such as The Rothschild Family, BlackRock, Vanguard, and Meta, as well as prominent political families like the Bushes and the Cheneys.

    Conclusion

    Trump’s death would have crashed the Nasdaq and Dow Jones for a week. According to our estimates, anyone who had this knowledge beforehand would have made an estimated $696 billion to $1 Trillion in profits.

    I’ve always known many government employees are dumb as a box of rocks. They couldn’t last a week in the private sector. That’s why they look for the safety of government jobs- where you can be completely 100% incompetent for 20+ years and keep your job.

    Exhibit A is Kamala Harris. She is even dumber than her boss Joe Biden. But he has dementia. What’s her excuse? She is just plain dumb as a doorknob.

    Kamala has gotten a government paycheck her entire life based on being a woman, and black, and having affairs with powerful men. And it worked- she rose to Vice President of the United States despite being completely incompetent. Now she’s literally a heartbeat away from the Presidency.

    Kamala is the “Great Replacement Theory” for Joe Biden.

    But she is far from alone. In this administration we find many DEI hires who are completely incompetent, mixed with arrogance and entitlement. See Mayor Pete, Rachel Levine and Sam Britton. I’m sure there are thousands more hidden in government offices and cubicles.

    But now we get to a special case: Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle.

    Is she just another incompetent government DEI hire? Well in a word…YES. But it’s more than that. Because no one is this dumb. Not even Kamala is as dumb and clueless as Cheatle appears to be.

    When it’s this obvious, it’s a scam.

    Look at the storyline of the Trump almost-assassination. It’s just impossible anyone, or even any government employee, or even any government agency, could be this stupid, careless, reckless and incompetent.

    The assassin walked around for over an hour as a “person of interest.” And no one did anything.

    He had a golf range finder in his hand. And no one did anything.

    He was spotted with a rifle and a backpack. But still, no one did anything.

    He was carrying a ladder and climbing onto a roof. And no one did anything.

    The roof he used to try to murder President Trump had a perfect, clear sightline to the target. The Secret Service never thought to secure that roof.

    Trump rally attendees were screaming at police and pointing to the assassin on the roof- and still, no one did anything.

    While the assassin was climbing onto the roof and sitting on the roof for 30 minutes, a sniper team was inside the building, right under the assassin.

    A Secret Service sniper on a roof next to President Trump was looking right at “the threat” in his gun scope, but waited until the assassin fired at President Trump’s head to fire upon the assassin. Wouldn’t you say that’s a little too late?

    The Secret Service now admits they were aware of an assassination threat for 10 minutes before Trump took the stage. So why did they allow him to take the stage?

    The Secret Service Director Cheatle actually gave the worst excuse for not securing that roof since “the dog ate my homework”- she actually said out loud that the roof was sloped, so she didn’t want to put Secret Service agents in danger.

    Is it possible she is that dumb?

    The Secret Service had no drones overhead to identify threats to President Trump?

    Team Trump had requested more manpower to protect President Trump on multiple occasions. The Secret Service Director rejected all of those requests.

    The former and future President of the United States was not given a “full protection package.” Think about that.

    At the same exact time as Trump’s event, First Lady Jill Biden decided to add a last-minute event in the same state. So, it just so happened that even more manpower was diverted away from President Trump. And several of Trump’s regular agents were re-deployed to the First Lady’s event- leaving Trump with inexperienced newcomers.

    I have first-hand knowledge that Trump’s event was long planned. Because I personally invited President Trump to speak on Saturday July 13th at the FreedomFest Conference in Las Vegas. His staff politely turned me down because they reported President Trump already had an event planned for that day in Butler, Pennsylvania. I knew that a month ahead of time. I have that letter in writing from President Trump’s top staff.

    So, why was a last-minute new event added to Jill Biden’s schedule- at the exact same time as Trump’s long planned event? That’s highly unusual.

    All of this happened against the backdrop of the Secret Service knowing there was a legitimate Iranian terrorist threat against President Trump. So, why leave Trump with a smaller and less experienced protection team?

    I know Kimberly Cheatle was a DEI hire. As a matter of fact, guess what story is missing in the media? I haven’t seen a word about this. On May 20th Bloomberg News ran a story about the highly unusual situation of a petition signed openly by many members of the Secret Service demanding Kimberly Cheatle be fired because she is obsessed with DEI, and therefore putting lives at risk.

    That was less than 60 days before President Trump came ¼ inch away from death.

    Why is the media ignoring this story?

    This is either the case of the worst government DEI incompetence, recklessness, carelessness and stupidity in history.

    Or much worse. This was a conspiracy at the highest levels to have President Trump purposely left unprotected, so that an assassin could easily carry out his job.

    Or maybe a combination of both.

    But thank God a miracle happened that changed the course of history. God intervened and moved Trump’s head at the last second.

    Eyewitnesses from the ground who saw the shooter on the roof at the Butler Trump rally describe seeing snipers in the second story building of the AGR Building in Butler Township, Pennsylvania.

    Speaking yesterday exclusively to the Gateway Pundit, the eyewitnesses said there is a lot more to the story that is not being reported by the mainstream media.

    Though they could not get a clear look at them, they describe seeing one sniper in particular with a sleeve tattoo. The building staff had been chasing off Trump supporters earlier that day, people who wanted to walk up on the property to the security fence to get a better shot of America’s President. Later, when the group tried again the security was nowhere to be found so they went onto the field.

    While there, they witnessed a man crawling on the roof and for what ABC admits is at least twenty minutes, and witnesses say was at least thirty minutes, trying to warn security as to what was going on, but there were no police and no security on this entire side of the Trump rally.

    J.D. Vance made his first national address as the Republican vice-presidential nominee on Wednesday night in Milwaukee, and took the opportunity to introduce himself to the American people. For those who’ve read his biography Hillbilly Elegy (or watched the Netflix adaptation), Vance’s story of growing up in Middletown, Ohio and being raised by his “Meemaw” after his mother became addicted to drugs wouldn’t have come as a surprise, but Vance included a few anecdotes that even many of his fans might not have heard before… including one story about Meemaw’s gun collection.

    “And our movement, ladies and gentlemen, is about grandparents all across this country who are living on Social Security and raising grandchildren they didn’t expect to raise,” he said.”And while we are on the topic of grandparents, let me tell you another Mamaw story. My Mamaw died shortly before I left for Iraq in 2005. And when we went through her things, we found 19 loaded handguns.”

    Members of the audience guffawed and cheered. Vance explained further.

    “Now, the thing is, they were stashed all over her house,” the senator continued. “Under her bed, in her closet, in the silverware drawer. And we wondered what was going on. And it occurred to us that towards the end of her life, Mamaw couldn’t get around so well. And so, this frail old woman made sure that no matter where she was, she was within arm’s length of whatever she needed to protect her family. That’s who we fight for. That’s American spirit!”

    Over at HotAir’s live blog, my friend Ed Morrissey called the story “awesome”, and rightfully guessed that I loved Vance’s story.

    I did, but not just because Vance’s anecdote was one of the first moments where the Second Amendment took center stage at the RNC this week. Vance’s story about his grandmother was a poignant reminder that while the right to keep and bear arms is a right of We the People, it’s also a right that benefits the most vulnerable members of our community. This “frail old woman” wasn’t going to be able to take down a home invader with her bare hands, no matter how tough she was or how strong her fighting spirit. She knew that a firearm was an equalizer; a tool that would help to keep her and her family safe.

    It’s also fascinating to me that gun control activists have largely ignored Vance’s tale, at least for the moment. I figured groups like Brady, Everytown, and Moms Demand Action would have been quick to label Meemaw a danger to herself and others for leaving 19 loaded handguns stashed around a home; perhaps using Vance’s story as a springboard to tout mandatory gun storage laws or to repeat their call for gun rationing laws that limit purchases to one per month. Maybe they’ll trot out those talking points today, but with the Biden campaign imploding I imagine the gun control lobby is also a little distracted at the moment.

    Vance’s story helped to show that (as sociologist David Yamane says) guns are normal and normal people own guns. Of course, some pretty extraordinary people own guns too. I’d put Vance’s grandmother in that class, and I love that he gave Meemaw and her gun collection a shoutout from the RNC stage on Wednesday night.

      • The elderly need firearms for self defense more then anyone else, I am in my late 70s and my time for hand to hand or knife fighting are long gone.

        • My taekwondo teacher told me I shouldn’t mess my hands or feet. He bred dogs, recognized fragile bone structure.

  20. The GOP’s Reaction to Assassination Attempt Pretty Much Perfect

    Former President Donald Trump was the target of an assassination attempt.

    Right now, that’s the one thing we can agree on throughout the nation. Beyond that, everything seems to be up for debate.

    Some think it’s a good thing the shooter missed. Some think it’s a bad thing. Most of the latter group have the good sense to keep that opinion to themselves, but a handful aren’t that wise and are now finding out that was a stupid decision on their part the hard way.

    Many others are using this attack as an opportunity to call for gun control. A lot of people are doing so.

    Meanwhile, Trump’s fellow Republicans are taking a different tone entirely.

    Days after Thomas Matthew Crooks put former President Donald Trump’s head in the sights of an assault-style rifle, Rep. Wesley Hunt made the case to keep the AR-15 in Americans’ hands.

    Hunt, R-Texas, warned an audience Tuesday morning that an AR-15 ban could become a “Trojan horse” that could lead to wider gun restriction if proponents on “the left” try to push the issue in the wake of the assassination attempt.

    “My message to you all is to be vigilant here,” Hunt said, noting assault-style rifles are responsible for a small fraction of U.S. homicides. “They cannot go after our AR-15s. The second we allow them to infringe on that, we are letting the fox in the henhouse.”

    The attempt on Trump’s life was a stunning moment in American history and in this year’s presidential race. Images of the former president — hand reaching for his bloodied ear, being tackled by security, and then resurging with a victorious fist in the air — shocked the nation and have electrified his already-passionate base of supporters in Milwaukee this week for the Republican National Convention.

    Speaking at an event near the convention on Tuesday morning, gun advocates and a top Trump surrogate showed no sign of changing their tune on gun rights. In fact they doubled-down on the idea that more guns can prevent similar tragedies.

    “The insinuation that we’re going to just eradicate this country of guns is a ridiculous one. So you better arm yourself accordingly,” Hunt said.

    Chris LaCivita, one of Trump’s top campaign advisers, said at the same event that the former president would continue to push for gun rights despite the shooting. He cast Crooks as a rogue actor, saying “99.9%” of gun owners are “very responsible.”

    “There are so many different things you can do to curb, you know, problem individuals, as opposed to trying to ban what has clearly been defined by the Constitution as a right,” LaCivita said.

    Honestly, this is completely and totally true.

    Some will look at what happened and argue that there’s no way this shows that gun rights prevent shootings. I’ll argue that they’re not wrong.

    It just doesn’t show the need for gun control, either, and that’s something I think a lot of these Republican voices missed.

    Trump had a security detail made up of federal agents specifically trained to prevent assassination attempts. These agents surround him night and day. They’re so dedicated to the job that they will literally jump in front of bullets to protect him.

    Despite that, they failed to prevent an attempt on his life.

    If the government, with seemingly limitless resources dedicated to protecting just one individual, can’t prevent an attempt on that person’s life, then just how in the hell are your local police–a department stretched thin enough in this day and age and charged with investigating and preventing numerous other crimes–going to protect you?

    The short answer is that they can’t.

    While we can look back and see all the places the Secret Service screwed up, it doesn’t change the fact that neither you nor I will ever enjoy that level of protection by federal agents unless we end up in prison or something, which I’m damn sure not planning on.

    No, it’s up to us to protect ourselves from those who might wish us harm. There isn’t a detail dedicated to protecting us or our families. It’s all on us.

    That’s one of the many reasons why this changes nothing about the gun control debate.

    In the aftermath of the attempted assassination of Trump, one thing happened that didn’t surprise me at all: people calling the shooter a “sniper.” There was also plenty of other dumb stuff said by “experts” on social media and in the media, as usual, like saying that an AR-15 is especially deadly at long range, that it takes special training to handle the round and that Eagle Scout is an elite paramilitary group.

    Yes, I stole that last one from a movie, but you have to admit that it’s an equally dumb statement that would have fit right in.

    In this post, I want to explain why it’s foolish for media figures and others to call a shooter like this a “sniper,” and that it could inspire copycats through false glorification of what was really an evil act of mostly dumb luck.
    What’s A Sniper?

    Before I get into the definition I’d use for a sniper, let’s first get the whole dictionary definition out of the way first:

    Let’s break this down into its elements:

    Shoots from a hiding place
    Usually accurately
    Usually from long range

    As we’ve seen in videos, the guy did not shoot from a hiding place. People saw him take a ladder, climb onto the roof and then take aim. Nothing about what he was doing was hidden. The only reason he didn’t get shot right away is because it took some time (too much time) for police to notice him and adequately respond, as well as for Secret Service counter-snipers to know that he wasn’t one of the cops that was supposed to be up there. He wasn’t hidden at all and only got shots off due to luck that lined up with incompetence.

    So, no, not a sniper, but let’s keep going. Accuracy and long range are important to the definition of a sniper, even if they’re not strictly necessary in common parlance.

    When it comes to accuracy, you’d have to accept some very low standards to miss a head-sized target at 125 yards with a rifle. But, I’ll shelf this element because we aren’t sure whether it was bad fundamentals, distraction from a cop who went onto the roof to see what was going on that messed him up or Trump merely moving his head enough in the time to literally dodge the bullet. For all we know, he could have made that shot under other circumstances.

    But, it’s indisputable that the shot was not at long range. I’d be impressed with a 125ish yard shot from a pistol, but anyone with much practice can hit a 4-inch target at 125 yards with an AR all day. It requires no special skill or even much dedication to get good enough to make a shot at that short range.

    Really, I have a hard time considering anything under 300 yards to be long range, because that’s within chip shot range. For a given target size and a given zero, there’s a set of ranges that require no consideration for ballistics. You can aim straight at the target and still hit it regardless.

    For a 6-inch target, XM193 ammunition and a 50-yard zero, anything from zero to almost 300 yards will still hit somewhere on the target. This means that the maximum point blank range, meaning the shooter doesn’t need to hold high or low to make the shot and aiming for a head-sized target for that gun is about 300 yards. To underscore, if you take aim at the center of target and have good fundamentals, you can hit the target without adjusting aim.

    So, I’d argue that 125 yards, falling far short of 300 yards, is not long range. It requires nothing but knowledge of basic shooting fundamentals to achieve. You don’t have to get the math wrong. You don’t have to misjudge anything under a 30 MPH wind, either. Expert mistakes don’t have to be made; only rookie mistakes must be made to miss this shot.

    When we call shooters like this snipers we risk glorifying what they did far beyond any deserved recognition of skill. A number of dumb mistakes had to happen by both the law enforcement presence there as well as by the shooter for even the missed shot to happen. Making such an unstable fool sound cool in any way risks encouraging other unstable fools to try it, and probably only get themselves, and in this case, other innocent people, killed or wounded.

    Instead, we should both take this threat seriously while also making it clear that it was an amateurish attempt unworthy of any real recognition.

    We’ve become all too familiar with leftists calling for violence against President Trump and his supporters over the last 8 years. However, after last weekend’s failed assassination attempt against Trump at his Pennsylvania rally, it’s time we take these illegal threats against the former president and his supporters more seriously.

    Over the last week, a popular far-left live streamer named Destiny (a man with a female name) went on a vitriolic rampage against the murdered Trump supporter, Corey Comperatore, who was hit with a stray bullet fired at President Donald Trump.

    It only took a matter of hours for blue-haired leftists like Destiny (pictured below) to begin gleefully celebrating the death of a Trump supporter while lamenting that the assassin failed to take the life of the former president.

    He was subsequently (allegedly) demonetized on X for his comments glorifying violence while also being temporarily suspended from popular streaming service Kick.com for the same grotesque remarks.

    While many conservatives condemned the inhuman comments celebrating the murder of a fellow American, many were defending Destiny’s right to make such comments as an example of the 1A. However, during the RNC, Destiny ramped up his rhetoric from glorifying violence to actually sanctioning political attacks.

    This outrageous meltdown comes at the conclusion of some very challenging personal problems for Destiny, including a very public divorce. While some conservatives were quick to accuse all liberals of thinking the same way, Ana Kasparian, host of The Young Turks, went out of her way to condemn these comments during an impromptu interview with The Gateway Pundit journalist Elijah Schaffer during the RNC in Milwaukee, WI.

    It’s alarming to see someone with such a large audience, such as Destiny, encourage political violence. But it’s encouraging to see fellow progressive colleagues like Ana Kasparian call him out for his disgusting rhetoric and remind us that sometimes public meltdowns happen, and in this case, it just happens to be a meltdown that violates the law.

    Nashville Councilwoman Ginny Welsch blamed President Trump for the attempt on his life.

    A bullet grazed President Trump’s ear on Saturday during his Pennsylvania rally. One rallygoer was fatally struck in the head. Two other rally attendees were wounded, one critically.

    The would-be assassin, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was able to climb on top of a roof next to Trump’s Butler, Pennsylvania rally and put Trump in his scope.

    Trump defied death and raised his fist shouting, “Fight! Fight! Fight!” as Secret Service agents escorted him to safety.

    A Nashville councilwoman blamed former President Donald Trump on Wednesday for his attempted assassination.

    Metro Nashville Councilmember Ginny Welsch, District 16, told Fox 17 Nashville the former president encouraged the shooting.

    Welsch objected to suspending council rules to allow for a hearing of a resolution condemning the assassination attempt and political violence. The resolution would have also honored all victims. She told Fox 17 she “absolutely” stood by her decision.

    Councilmember Courtney Johnston, District 26, called her colleague’s opposition “disgusting” and “embarrassing,” according to Fox 17. A new resolution condemning political violence will be introduced next month, which Welsch said she will back.

    “There is another resolution that is also going to be filed on Aug. 6 that is actually speaking out against all political violence, and I will be supporting that one,” she noted.

The NATO summit was putting pinch on the overall Secret Service resources — not to mention that Kamala Harris had an event in Philly the same day.

    I reported Sunday that the Secret Service diverted resources from the Trump rally to the Jill Biden event. My Secret Service sources used the word “diverted” with me. That was rightfully a focus. I believe, from my reporting, there was a resources-allocation issue between the Trump rally and the Jill Biden dinner in the Pittsburg area on the same day, exacerbated by resources needed for the NATO summit and prep for the RNC convention.

    Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi has said the resources were not “diverted” from the Trump rally to the Jill Biden dinner — but is it a semantics issue? Were they allocated in a lopsided or inappropriate way that was not threat-based — because Trump clearly has more threats facing him than Jill Biden. Did some Secret Service agents advocate for more resources for Trump but did not win that argument and some of those resources they asked for instead went to Jill Biden’s dinner?

    That is just one aspect the committee needs to drill down on.

    Lawyers for Hunter Biden on Thursday asked two federal judges – one in California – and one in Delaware – to dismiss the criminal cases against him.

    Hunter Biden is currently facing federal tax fraud charges in California.

    In December Hunter Biden was hit with a 9-count indictment filed in the Central District of California: Tax evasion, failure to file/pay taxes, and false/fraudulent tax return.

    The indictment was handed down by Special Counsel David Weiss after a sweetheart plea deal on tax charges fell apart last summer.

    In September Hunter Biden was indicted on federal gun charges. He was indicted in a Delaware court on three counts related to his possession of a firearm while using drugs.

    Prosecutors proved that Hunter Biden was smoking crack when he purchased a firearm in 2018.

    Last month jurors returned a verdict in Hunter Biden’s criminal gun trial after three hours of deliberations – GUILTY OF ALL THREE FELONIES!

    Hunter Biden is facing 25 years in prison in the Delaware gun case.

    Hunter’s lawyers filed motions in two federal courts citing Judge Cannon’s ruling on her decision to toss Jack Smith’s classified documents case and Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’ opinion.

    Judge Cannon dismissed Jack Smith’s case based on both unconstitutional elements: The appointment by US Attorney Merrick Garland and the unlimited funding given to Jack Smith – both without the approval of Congress.

    Hunter’s lawyers argued that David Weiss, a US Attorney from Delaware, was improperly appointed as special counsel.

    Lawyers for Hunter Biden on Thursday asked federal judges in California and Delaware to dismiss the criminal cases against him in their courts, citing a recent opinion by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and the related dismissal this week of the criminal classified documents case against former President Donald Trump.

    Biden’s lawyers in motions filed in both courts pointed to those two opinions — which questioned the legality of the appointment of special counsel Jack Smith to prosecute Trump — in arguing that the appointment of U.S. Attorney David Weiss as special counsel for prosecutions of the son of President Joe Biden was unconstitutional.

    The motions follow the ruling Monday by Florida federal court Judge Aileen Cannon tossing out Smith’s prosecution of Trump over his retention of classified documents after leaving the White House. Cannon ruled that Smith’s appointment as special counsel violated the Appointments Clause of the U.S. Constitution.
