Its along the Don Valley river or something which is particularly shallow so it floods easily and often but not this much.
But to get this special wildlife preserve and wetlands built, they had to install special temporary dams called Plug dams IIRC.
These Plug dams stop water from getting to Lake Ontario where the storm drains normally would, or something like that.
So the flooding is 100% because of problems with the re routing of storm drains and plug dams amplifying a well known and common problem of flooding along the Don river or valley or something.
I am not that familiar with the topology of the GTA but people who are can hopefully interpret this here for us for clarity.
Further, project is finished this fall and the plug dams should be removed.
I tend to believe this fellow as I have known him some time and his explanation for things government when it comes to engineering and even climate related, is rational and apolitical. Meaning he also knows Global Warming is a catastrophic myth.

A leftist activist has been arrested for burning down a gun shop owned by Cornel Rasor, a Republican candidate for the Iowa State House of Representatives, on the Fourth of July.
The activist, Jennifer S. Meyer, is accused of burning down Cornel Rasor’s Army Surplus Store in Sandpoint, prompting celebrations from her fellow leftists.
Meyer has reportedly made signs for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and a local arts commission.
It appears the fire that consumed Cornell Razor’s Army Surplus store (located just 1 block away from where Sandpoint Pride is held) was ARSON, not a “stray firework.”

The Iowa Tribune reports that when police executed a search warrant on her house on Tuesday evening, they found “$1,000 cash, $1,200 of dollars worth of silver, a 9mm gun, car titles, birth certificates, college transcripts, and passports, indicating that Meyer may have been intending to flee the country.”

Police found a cell phone and a bomb detonator next to Thomas Matthew Crooks’ after a Secret Service sniper fatally shot him on a rooftop outside of Trump’s Butler, Pennsylvania rally.
“Channel 11?s Nicole Ford also obtained exclusive photos showing the cell phone and transmitter device found next to Crooks moments after a Secret Service sniper shot and killed him.” WPXI reported.
It was previously reported by The Wall Street Journal and CNN that Crooks had explosives in his Hyundai Sonata which was parked next to the rally.
Details about the explosives are not known.
However, according to CNN, investigators found no online search history of Crooks researching how to assemble homemade explosives.
“It’s unclear how Crooks assembled the explosive devices found in his car. Investigators parsing through his online search history haven’t found any indication of him researching how to make home-made explosives, law enforcement officials said.” – CNN reported.
The so-called ‘security lapses’ and circumstances surrounding the assassination attempt against Trump raise questions about how Thomas Matthew Crooks was able to pull everything off by himself.
Crooks reportedly purchased a 5-foot ladder from Home Depot the morning of the assassination attempt.
How did he know he needed a ladder to access a rooftop with a clear line to President Trump? It is unclear if Crooks used the newly-purchased ladder because the one photographed is larger than the one he bought from Home Depot.
A bullet grazed President Trump’s ear on Saturday during his Pennsylvania rally. One rallygoer was fatally struck in the head. Two other rally attendees were wounded, one critically.
In an appalling breach of security, Thomas Matthew Crooks was able to climb on top of a roof next to Trump’s Butler, Pennsylvania rally and put Trump in his scope.
Trump defied death and raised his fist shouting, “Fight! Fight! Fight!” as Secret Service agents escorted him to safety.

At least two Republican senators are demanding Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resign following Wednesday’s briefing on the assassination attempt on President Trump where it was revealed the Secret Service was aware of a threat ten minutes before a would=be assassin fired at Trump’s head, yet Trump was allowed to go on stage at Saturday’s rally in Butler, PA. Trump was miraculously only hit in his ear. However, one supporter was killed and two wounded in the attack on Trump by 20-year-old Thomas Crooks. (UPDATE at end: ABC reports Secret Service snipers saw Crooks on the roof twenty minutes before the shooting.)

NBC News reported on the briefing, saying Crooks had visited the rally site several days before (excerpt):
The 20-year-old who shot at Trump on Saturday visited the site of the former president’s rally days ahead of the event to scope out the area, two sources familiar with today’s Senate briefing told NBC News.
Crooks was photographed as a suspicious person 62 minutes before he opened fire, and snipers spotted him 20 minutes before the shooting, the sources said.

Law enforcement officials investigating the assassination attempt on Donald Trump told lawmakers Wednesday that 20 minutes passed between the time U.S. Secret Service snipers first spotted the gunman on a rooftop and the time shots were fired at the former president, according to several law enforcement officials and lawmakers briefed on the matter.
Officials said the snipers spotted the suspect, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, on the roof of a building outside the security zone at the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, at 5:52 p.m. ET. The shooting happened at 6:12 p.m. ET, 20 minutes later, the sources said.
According to the sources, the timeline presented in the briefing was as follows:
5:10 p.m. Crooks was first identified as a person of interest
5:30 p.m. Crooks was spotted with a rangefinder
5:52 p.m. Crooks was spotted on the roof by Secret Service

Shades of Roger Stone arrest: Police raid right-wing publisher Jürgen Elsässer Monday morning
German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (Social Democrats) ordered police to shut down the leading right-wing monthly magazine “Compact” and sent 200 armed officers to raid the home of publisher Jürgen Elsaesser Monday. Now the crackdown on free speech seems to be backfiring, however, as more and more call for Faeser’s resignation and Elon Musk chimes in.
The Gateway Pundit has reported on Germany’s “Antifa”-aligned homeland security minister Nancy Faeser, who published a comment in “Antifa” magazine 2021, which is run by a group considered “far-left” and “communist aligned” by the Bavarian secret police.
In 2022, Faeser was involved in a plot to oust Germany’s head of Cybersecurity, Arne Schönbohm, presumably for not being sufficiently pro-censorship as a conservative Christian Democrat, together with public broadcaster “comedian” Jan Böhmermann and a shadowy group of anonymous journalists who call themselves “Policy Network Analytics” on Twiter and are loosely tied to Germany’s “Media Matters”, Social Democrat donor backed “Correctiv”.
In December 2022, she ordered a high-profile raid on a group of so-called “Reichsbürger,” who do not recognize the current German Basic Law as a valid constitution and were allegedly plotting a coup, and ordering the arrest of 27 suspects including 71-year-old Prince Henry XIII. of Reuss.
Press and half a dozen TV crews were on the scene, similar to the staged FBI-CNN arrest of Roger Stone. The weapons seized in the alleged coup involved several hunting rifles, a crossbow, and a 13th-century cutlass. The trial began in May after a year and a half in custody.
Beginning in 2024, Faeser’s national head of secret political police, Thomas Haldenwang, briefed government-friendly journalists on a campaign by left-wing NGO “Correctiv” to frame AfD (“Alternative for Germany”) members for alleged plans to “deport millions of foreigners and German citizens”. It turned out “Correctiv,” which is funded by CIA cutouts Open Society, and Pierre Omidyar, and the German and EU taxpayer had no evidence of its claims and had to retract in court.
Now Faeser ordered German police to raid and shut down Germany’s leading right-wing monthly “Compact” (with a circulation of 40,000) because it “incites hatred against Jews, foreigners, and our parliamentary Democracy.”
“Compact” publisher Jürgen Elsässer was raided by police at 6 am in his home and office in Falkensee, Brandenburg, and photographed by journalists being arrested in his bathrobe.
A TV crew belonging to public broadcaster ARD’s left-wing news format “Kontraste” was also present. The editor-in-chief of “Kontraste” Georg Heil is the brother of labor secretary Hubertus Heil (Social Democrat). Georg Heil was apparently also informed of the “Reichsbürger” raid 2022. Police leaking personal information to the press is a crime in Germany, attorney Christian Konrad noted.
Police even removed the furniture from his office, as the desks and chairs evidently pose a threat to democracy.

Now, the politically motivated persecution of right-wing media seems to be backfiring, however. Renowned conservative legal scholar Rupert Scholz and free-speech lawyer Jürgen Steinhöfel called the shutdown “obviously unconstitutional.”
Constitutional lawyer Prof. Volker Boehme-Nesler said the raid shows ‘”methods of authoritarian states against freedom of the press” by the Antifa minister.
Even left-wing MP Dieter Dehm of the former East German Communist party (“The Left”) compared Faeser to “McCarthy” and warned: “The noose of those who think they know everything is tightening ever more around the neck of diversity and freedom of expression! The Left must show solidarity with Compact and Jürgen Elsässer!”

Many observers noted that Interior Minister Nancy Faeser had wrongly used German association registration law to ban “Compact” magazine, which is not a club or an association or PAC but a limited company.
Media attorney Carsten Brennicke also questioned the legality of leaking the time and place of the raid to the press: “Leaking information about police raids in advance by ministries or other authorities for the purpose of self-promotion is not only illegal but also represents an infringement on the personal rights of those affected. It is not (yet) clear who leaked the information, whether this was done at the highest level in the responsible ministry or by someone else. But the fact is that it was no coincidence that the press was ready and waiting to film that morning. The leaking of such information shows that many of those in charge today are more concerned with self-promotion in the ongoing election campaign than with doing their jobs. Of course, the leaking of such information does not strengthen trust in the rule of law.”

If you search for “home still” on Amazon, you will see a bunch of products that are explicitly advertised as tools for producing liquor.
But while it is legal to make beer, cider, or wine at home for your own consumption or to share with friends, unlicensed production of distilled spirits remains a federal felony punishable by up to five years in prison, a $10,000 fine, or both.
That law is unconstitutional, a federal judge in Texas ruled last week.
In addition to potentially protecting at least some DIY distillers from a daunting threat, the decision offers hope of constraining a federal government that has expanded far beyond the limited and enumerated powers granted by the Constitution.
“This decision is a victory for personal freedoms and for federalism,” said Dan Greenberg, general counsel at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, which represented the hobbyists who challenged the ban on home distilling. The ruling, he noted, “reminds us that, as Americans, we live under a government of limited powers.”
That is easy to forget, given the chilling arrogance exemplified by the unsolicited letter that one of the plaintiffs in this case, Scott McNutt, received from the Treasury Department’s Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau. The TTB said it had learned that McNutt “may have purchased a still capable of producing alcohol,” warned that “unlawful production of distilled spirits is a criminal offense,” and noted the potential penalties

To avoid those penalties, the TTB explained, anyone who wants to concentrate the alcohol in a fermented beverage must first obtain the requisite federal permits. But those permits are not available to home-distillers.
That policy, the government argued, is justified by the need to safeguard federal revenue by preventing evasion of liquor taxes. But U.S. District Judge Mark T. Pittman concluded that the challenged provisions, which apply to noncommercial producers who owe no such taxes, do not count as revenue collection or as a “necessary and proper” means of achieving that goal.
One of those laws makes “distilling on prohibited premises” a crime, while the other prohibits stills in “any dwelling house.” Those provisions, Pittman notes, make “no reference to any mechanism or process that operates to protect revenue.” And while “prohibiting the possession of an at-home still” meant to produce alcoholic beverages “might be convenient to protect tax revenue,” he says, “it is not a sufficiently clear corollary to the positive power of laying and collecting taxes.”
Pittman also rejected the government’s claim that the ban was authorized by the power to regulate interstate commerce, which Congress routinely invokes to justify legislation. He notes that “neither of these provisions connect(s) the prohibited behavior to interstate commerce.”
Home distilling, the government argued, “substantially affects interstate commerce in the aggregate.” But to justify regulation of noncommercial activity under that “substantial effects” test, Pittman says, requires showing that it is necessary to execute “a comprehensive statute that regulates commerce on its face,” which is not true in this case.
In that respect, Pittman thinks, the ban on home distilling differs from the medical marijuana ban the Supreme Court upheld in 2005, which supposedly was justified as part of a comprehensive regulatory scheme established by the Controlled Substances Act. Dissenting from that decision, Justice Clarence Thomas warned that its logic would allow Congress to “regulate virtually anything.”
As Pittman sees it, however, the Commerce Clause is still not quite the blank check that Congress would like it to be. He issued a permanent injunction that bars the government from enforcing the home-distilling ban against McNutt or other members of the Texas-based Hobby Distillers Association.
“While the federal government has become more enthusiastic about inflating the scope of its powers over the last century, this case shows that there are limits to the government’s authority,” said CEI attorney Devin Watkins. “If the government appeals this decision to a higher court, we look forward to illuminating those limits.”

New Legal Briefs Dismantle New York’s Argument for Public Firearms Carry Bans

Under the leadership of the Second Amendment Foundation, Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) joined in the filing of a reply brief with the Western District of New York in support of its motion for summary judgment in its federal Second Amendment lawsuit, Christian v. James, which challenges several of New York’s recently implemented public carry bans.

“New York’s carry ban is as unconstitutional as it is immoral,” said FPC President Brandon Combs. “FPC will continue to fight forward until all peaceable people can freely exercise their right to bear arms throughout New York and across the nation.”
Today’s brief not only supports SAF & FPC’s motion but it also dismantles the State’s arguments against its claims.
“The State cannot ground its prohibition on carry in public parks and at all private property open to the public (the ‘no-carry default’) in any relevantly similar historical tradition grounded in the Founding era,” the brief states. “Instead, the State raises several unpersuasive threshold arguments, all of which can be dismissed.”
FPC brings this challenge as part of its high-impact FPC Law strategic litigation program to eliminate disarmament regimes and restore the natural right to keep and bear arms.
