Reader’s Links for June 12th, 2024

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

For those interested, please check out https://vladtepesblog.substack.com/ as an another avenue of expression.

  1. Start your day with a bit of sad humour:

  2. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said Tuesday on MSNBC’s “All In” that the Supreme Court of the United States’s failure to impose consequences for any ethical breach is leading to “authoritarianism, tyranny, and the abuse of power in the United States.”

Ocasio-Cortez said, “Justice Alito’s position is laughable in this. This idea that he can be and that the court should be accountable to nobody and that the only person they should be accountable to our themselves.”

She continued, “This kind of scout’s promise sort of set up for how we should be having ethics standards for the highest and most consequential court in the land. It is completely unacceptable, and not only is it unacceptable but to have anyone of our coequal branches be completely unaccountable to the others is paving the path to authoritarianism, tyranny, the abuse of power in the United States.”

  3. FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — A federal judge on Tuesday struck down a 2023 Florida law that blocked gender-affirming care for transgender minors and severely restricted such treatment for adults, calling the statute unconstitutional.

Senior Judge Robert Hinkle said the state went too far when it barred transgender minors from being prescribed puberty blockers and hormonal treatments with their parents’ permission. He also stopped the state from requiring that transgender adults only receive treatment from a doctor and not from a registered nurse or other qualified medical practitioner. And he barred a ban on online treatment for transgender adults.

  5. A funding bill from House Republicans includes billions for mass migration backed by the United Nations’ (U.N.) International Organization for Migration (IOM). The large-scale funding continuation comes as a former Democrat staffer of the House Appropriations Committee has been hired to lobby Congress to fund IOM, using American taxpayer dollars.

On Wednesday, the House Appropriations Committee will consider a State Department funding bill for Fiscal Year 2025. The bill includes nearly $2.5 billion that can go toward the IOM, which helps facilitate mass migration to the U.S. through the nation’s southern border.

  6. Passengers on an El Al flight from Ben-Gurion to Heathrow Airport in London on Monday were asked to undergo extra customs checks after a customs official discovered one of the passengers had an Israeli flag, according to UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI).

According to a letter by UKLFI, there was nothing unusual before arriving at customs, when at around 10:30 p.m. the passengers reached the customs border and entered the “Nothing to Declare” channel.

The letter quotes one of the passengers’ descriptions of the event: “We were walking through the exit when a customs official appeared and asked a man in front of me what he had on his suitcase. The man replied, an Israeli flag. Immediately, the customs official started shouting, ‘Everyone on the Israeli flight, go to the room on the left.’ One traveller said, “Why us? We are walking through with passengers coming off a flight from Doha.”

  7. Hezbollah’s weaponry has seen significant developments in its arsenal of rockets, UAVs, and precision missiles, the Alma Research and Education Center stated in its report on Monday.

According to updated estimates, Hezbollah now possesses a few thousand precision missiles and rockets out of a total stockpile of 75,000. This precision arsenal is not restricted to the Fateh-110 missiles but includes various types of rockets undergoing precision enhancement processes.

The number of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in Hezbollah’s possession has also increased. In 2021, the estimate was around 2,000 UAVs. The current estimate suggests approximately 2,500 UAVs, though questions remain as to whether this may be an underestimate, the Alma Center’s report noted.

  8. Go 10:07 to 30:00 on this one. The hosts are well-meaning but waste too much time talking. It’s an interview with CTV’s Vassy Kaplos and Chrystia Freeland, who has a mouth like an axe cut. Kaplos is making a name for herself as a very rare legacy journalist who is objective, which means she will likely be objectively unemployed.

Axe Mouth’s media training is to speak platitudes to which sheep will baa passively in agreement, because there is neither fish nor meat in her statements. She has gotten away with this far too long, but as the wheels fall off our economy and this new tax puts another nail in our financial coffins, patience for pablum will run out as fast as Trudeau in a news scrum. Axe Mouth’s days are numbered, but she will do fine pimping as head Madam for the World fascist government (WEF):

    • Johnny, I can no longer tolerate listening to this whining little World Economic Forum Chairpeoplekind / so called CANADIAN deputy prime minister. Her performance in the days following this tyrannical government’s actions toward the truckers, Canadian citizens, told me she is an evil, self congratulating, arrogant narcissist who should be charged with treason. Her allegiance is with the elites of the world, not the “little worthless eaters”.

  10. Crime is So Bad in Hawaii Police Are Urging Beachgoers to Take Their Valuables Into The Ocean
    by Ben Kew Jun. 12, 2024 10:00 am71 Comments

Authorities in the Hawaiian capital of Honolulu have urged beachgoers to take their valuables into the ocean rather than risk them being stolen by criminals.

In a message posted in the run-up to King Kamehameha I Day, a public holiday in the state of Hawaii, the Honolulu police department said people should instead invest in a “waterproof bag” in which they can keep their valuables safe.

“For those enjoying the beach, don’t leave valuables unattended on the sand,” the message read. “Instead, use a waterproof bag that you can take into the water with you.”

  11. Ice Arrests Illegal Guatemalan “Got Away” – Charged with Rape of Child in Massachusetts
    by Margaret Flavin Jun. 12, 2024 10:15 am12 Comments

In the sanctuary state of Massachusetts, Yader Alexander Morales-Quevedo, a 24-year-old Guatemalan noncitizen, was attested by Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) for the rape of a minor in Bristol County.

Morales-Quevedo is one of the millions of “got-aways” brought into the U.S. thanks to Joe Biden’s broken border.

According to ICE, “Morales-Quevedo unlawfully entered the United States on an unknown date at an unknown location, and without being inspected, admitted or paroled by a U.S. immigration official.”

The New Bedford District Court arraigned Morales-Quevedo on Aug. 30, 2022, for the offense of rape of a child, with the court upgrading the charges to be heard by the Superior Court.

ATF’s New Engaged In The Business Of Selling Firearms Rule Block By Federal Judge

A federal judge in Texas has issued a Preliminary Injunction (PI) against the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ (ATF) from enforcing its Final Rule about being engaged in the business of selling firearms.

The lawsuit, Texas v. ATF, was filed by Gun Owners of America (GOA), Gun Owners Foundation (GOF), Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL), Tennessee Firearms Association (TFA), Louisiana, Utah, Mississippi, and Texas after the ATF announced a new rule requiring most gun sellers to obtain a Federal Firearms License (FFL) before selling any firearms. The rule was in response to a request by President Joe Biden. The elderly Biden has been frustrated by being unable to pass a federal universal background check (UBC) law.

The ATF used the power they claimed was given to them by John Cornyn and other members of Congress through the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA) to change the rule on who needs an FFL to sell a gun. The ATF said a person no longer needs to be selling firearms to make money to be considered “engaged in the business” of selling guns. Simply advertising a firearm for sale by creating a flyer or posting it online was enough to be considered an “unlicensed gun dealer.” Keeping records or putting a gun on a table for sale was enough to be considered engaging in the business of selling firearms.
One of the most disturbing parts of the new ATF rule is the presumption of guilt. The ATF will take the default position that someone is violating the rule unless that person can prove otherwise. This stance turns the “innocent until proven guilty” principle on its head.

Before the rule was enacted, the plaintiffs in the case asked Federal District Court Judge Matthew J. Kacsmaryk to issue a temporary restraining order (TRO) to prevent the rule from being enacted. The Northern District of Texas judge granted the request for a TRO for the plaintiffs, including residents of the named states and members of the organizations. The ATF would answer by stating that none of the parties have the standing to sue. An idea that Judge Kacsmaryk outright rejected.
The judge also highlighted how the rule differs from the BSCA. He states that this difference could violate the Administrative Procedures Act (APA), and therefore, the plaintiffs are likely to succeed on the merits of the case. The judge seemed to have a significant problem with the fact that the ATF says that selling a single firearm could require an FFL, which is something never mentioned in the BSCA.

“Here, the Final Rule clashes with the text of the BSCA in at least three ways,” the judge wrote. “First, it asserts that there is no ‘minimum number of firearms to actually be sold to be ‘engaged in the business’’ for the purposes of the licensing requirement. ‘[A] single firearm transaction’ — or even a mere offer to engage in a transaction — may suffice.”

Judge Kacsmaryk also stated that the plaintiffs would likely suffer irreputable harm if the rule were allowed to go into effect because it could lock up many people’s funds if they need to sell guns for things like paying bills. The judge also noted that the balance of interest must be decided for the plaintiffs if the rule is unlawful.

“Moreover, ‘[t]here is generally no public interest in the perpetuation of unlawful agency Action,’” the judge wrote. “And as this Court’s analysis makes clear, Defendants’ Final Rule is almost certainly violative of — at the least — the APA. As such, ‘both the balance of equities and the public interest weigh in favor of allowing orderly judicial review of the Rule before anyone shuts down their businesses or sends them to jail.’”

The PI only applies to GOA, TFA, and VCDL members or Louisiana, Utah, Mississippi, and Texas residents. Since the organizations do not have to give up a membership list, there is no way for the ATF to verify who is covered by the PI, making it almost impossible for the government to enforce the rule against anyone.
The government is expected to appeal the Court’s decision while waiting on a hearing about a permanent injunction, but the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals has been critical of other ATF rules, making the ATF’s task of winning an appeal an almost impossible challenge.

  13. The Biden administration has publicly praised American troops who are part of the risky mission to deliver aid to Gaza via a temporary pier, but behind the scenes, sources tell Breitbart News that the troops’ safety is being endangered for a “photo-op.”

There are approximately 1,000 troops who are part of the novel operation to attach a floating pier to the coast of Gaza. The pier went operational on May 17, but eight days later on May 25, it broke apart due to heavy seas and had to be dismantled from the coast and repaired. It was reattached just last week.

  14. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi assembled a cabinet for his third term on Sunday and, for the first time in modern India’s history, appointed no Muslim officials.
The New Indian Express noted that Modi’s cabinet “saw representation from across states, classes and castes, but not for the 200 million Muslim population in the country.”

The opposition lambasted Modi during his campaign for playing to Hindu nationalists and fueling sentiments against Muslims. One of his more controversial talking points was urging Indian voters to oppose a Muslim “Vote Jihad,” an effort allegedly sponsored by rival Pakistan to destabilize Indian politics.

  15. Twenty-seven pro-Palestinian activists were arrested during another protest at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) on Monday, as the House of Representatives expanded its inquiry into antisemitism at the school.

UCLA was the setting for some of the ugliest scenes in the country during the wave of “encampments” this spring. Activists barred Jewish students and journalists from areas on campus; police only intervened after vigilantes struck.

A source told Breitbart News that some Jewish faculty members are afraid to walk on campus because of roving bands of pro-Palestinian activists that harass Jews.
