Reader’s Links for May 5th, 2024

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. One of the great fallacies coming from the women’s movement is that it gave women greater equality in terms of women’s ability to enter the work force. This big push happened in the 1970s. Popular culture even put lipstick on the pig by presenting us with successful female role models:

    https://youtu.be/ZNKOt2k7Pm4?si=d4W5S8oH042mgcGb

The reality, however, is that the women’s movement had nothing to do with this. While the left made it a cause for righteous celebration, the reality was that traditional single-earner households were quickly becoming unaffordable because of inflation. This inflation was the consequence of the removal of the dollar from its gold anchor August 15, 1971. After this day the USD began a free fall resulting in massive loss of purchasing power. Thanks to Keynesian economics the family unit suffered its greatest blow. We have been feeling the consequences of this injury ever since. Knowing exactly how much value the dollar has lost is difficult because the Consumer Price Index (CPI) has become fictitious. Critical metrics such as food and fuel have been removed from the calculation for political expediency. Regardless, many experts put the devaluation at about 96%:

The next time a feminist (is this really even a thing anymore given that that beast has been drowning in the “gender” ocean for quite some time?), I would ask how have women really been served by being forced–yes forced–to work? You’ve come a long way, baby. Right. Everyone should be mad as hell at what deficit financing has done to our society. If only more people got it.

    • Major credit cards came about in the early 1970s. Debt, interest payments for all things material. If you did not have the money to buy something, you did not buy it became a thing of the past. Awe just go into debt. Working women who now needed a car, clothes for work, babysitters, hair and nails done ……………..things became important, TV, less reading, thinking, less time for mom to spend with her children playing board games, knowing their math and reading skills, the teacher was also the babysitter and God was forgotten, dismissed.

During Covid, Justine Trudeau told people if they were feeling low, just use your credit card and buy what you wanted to make yourself feel better. Why would anyone in their right mind encourage debt? It has taken quite a few years to turn people into credit slaves, don’t worry the government will take care of you all too soon. I heard a woman telling another woman early in the Covid great reset, that she was happy to stay home and get paid.

  2. Exclusive: Top Attorney Thor Hearne Offers Analysis and a Prediction on the Supreme Court’s Decision on Trump vs. United States Presidential Immunity Case – Includes Scathing Rebuke of Special Counsel Jack Smith
    by Jim Hoft May. 5, 2024 8:00 am418 Comments

Coalition filed an amicus brief with the Supreme Court on the question of presidential immunity.

As we are all aware, this case concerns the issue of whether a subsequent president may criminally prosecute his (or her) predecessor and current political rival for official acts the previous president took while in office.

The Friend of the Court brief was filed back in early April to defend the constitutional principle that a President of the United States, as the Nation’s chief executive, must have immunity from criminal prosecution for those official acts the President takes. Otherwise, fear of a subsequent political rival bringing a criminal prosecution against the President will impair the President from making those decisions necessary in the President’s best judgment to protect our national interest and discharge the duties of the office of Chief Executive.

How the Supreme Court decides this case will affect the Separation of Powers between the three branches of our government and will determine how future presidents fulfill their duty as Chief Executive. The brief provides a historical context for the Supreme Court to consider. It is not hyperbole to suggest that the United States v. Trump case is of a constitutional magnitude equivalent to Chief Justice John Marshall’s decision for the Court in Marbury v. Madison.

The oral argument in the United States Supreme Court took place on April 25th. A decision is expected before Independence Day.

Attorney Thor Hearne, outside counsel for the Constitutional Coalition, provided an analysis of the Trump vs. United States oral arguments. This was a blistering rebuke of the Biden administration’s ham-handed defense of their actions to take down their political opposition in the upcoming election.

    Via Attorney Thor Hearne:

Every Justice understood that the Supreme Court is deciding a landmark case that transcends the immediate issue of President Trump and the 2024 presidential
    election.

Given this, I was somewhat surprised by the quality of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s work. During my thirtyyear career I have had opportunity to argue before the Supreme Court and I have represented hundreds of amici parties, including the leadership of the United States House and Senate in matters before the Court. In most Supreme Court cases the Solicitor General represents the United States. Irrespective of whether it be the Clinton, Bush, Obama, Trump, or Biden Administration, I have found that the written briefs and argument by the Solicitor General and the counsel in the Solicitor General’s office is of a very high quality. The Solicitor General has its own Style Manual for Supreme Court briefs. Given this, I was surprised when I read Jack Smith’s briefs that were not of the high quality the Solicitor General normally writes.

I did not find that quality of the briefs Jack Smith filed, nor the argument Mike Dreeben made, to be on par with what the Solicitor General customarily presents in cases before the Supreme Court. I found this surprising, but then I noticed that the briefs filed in the Supreme Court were not by the Solicitor General’s office but were an in-house product of Jack Smith’s “Special Counsel” team. I anticipated that when this case of such importance was argued in the Supreme Court, the Solicitor General’s office would direct the briefing and argument. But this was apparently not the case.

Attorney Hearne also offers his prediction for the case.

    MY PREDICTION OF THE OUTCOME

Two of the more challenging intellectual tasks one can undertake are forecasting the path of a hurricane or predicting how the Supreme Court will rule. With that caution thrown to the winds, I offer my prediction.

I expect Chief Justice Roberts will author the majority opinion that overturns the D.C. Circuit’s categorical holding that the president has no immunity from criminal prosecution for any official act. I anticipate the Supreme Court will remand the case to the district court for a fuller record of what specific “official acts” (as opposed to “private acts”) are the basis of Jack Smith’s indictment. The remand will direct the district court to develop the specific facts and allegations underlying Jack Smith’s indictment.

Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Barrett did not seem inclined to favor a blanket rule that the president is absolutely immune from criminal prosecution for every official act the president takes while in office. Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Barrett seem inclined to develop a more limited doctrine of immunity addressing the distinction between “official acts” (directing a drone strike that killed American citizens) and “private acts” the president engages in pursuit of the president’s private interest. (Bill Clinton’s act with Monica Lewinski is not an “official act” even though President Clinton engaged in the act in the Oval Office, nor is President Clinton’s subsequent denial of inappropriate conduct at an official press conference held in the White House.)

Justices Kavanaugh, Gorsuch and Alito appeared favorable to a broad rule recognizing presidential immunity from criminal prosecution for official acts. I anticipate they will join the Chief Justice and Justice Barrett’s opinion reversing the DC Circuit’s. Justices Alito, Kavanaugh, Gorsuch and Thomas also appeared to be sympathetic to the argument made in our amicus brief that bringing a criminal prosecution against the President for an official act requires that the President first be impeached and convicted by the House and Senate.

Justice Thomas (as he is wont to do) focused on the constitutional source of presidential immunity and wanted to have a fuller sense of the constitutional text and history underlying the immunity doctrine. Justice Thomas is a celebrated textualist and originalist who looks to the words of the Constitution (or a statute) that is the subject of the dispute so that the Court may faithfully interpret and apply the Constitution or statute as the drafters intended. This is similar to the philosophy the late Justice Scalia brought to the Court. I anticipate Justice Thomas will embrace the principal of presidential immunity from criminal prosecution for official acts. But I anticipate Justice Thomas will write a separate opinion explaining the historical context and constitutional text underlying this doctrine.

    • How long before Justice Thomas is ‘Scaliad’ – as we were originally told, Justice Scalia was found with a pillow over his head…

Will the Supreme Court Justices dare vote their conscience?

      • I don’t know, it would be a big mistake for them to do something like this. Given the number of people who are already afraid of this administration and are getting ready to remove them from power. The US isn’t some disarmed nation where they can intimidate the population.

  3. Human Trafficking Evidence in Chicago Migrant Facility
    by Guest Contributor May. 5, 2024 11:00 am55 Comments

Terry Newsome of Behind Enemy Lines podcast has been covering the ever-expanding issue of illegal immigration in the city of Chicago. The sanctuary city crisis has become a burden too heavy for the blue states to carry. In recent months, Chicago citizens have flooded city council meetings lambasting the Johnson administration for continually catering to the illegal immigrant population while housing them in facilities across the city. As the Gateway Pundit reported in March, migrant facilities in Chicago appear to be hot spots for imported crime of myriad sorts.

Illinois taxpayers are on the hook for everything from transportation, to food, shelter, phones, and childcare. The multiple modern ghettos that pose as migrant facilities have put an undue burden on both the emergency responders and the Cook County taxpayer. So much so that Mayor Brandon Johnson has recently asked the Chicago City Council for an additional $70 million to manage the illegal immigration crisis. This is on top of the $300 million already spent to sustain the crisis.

The irony is that Chicago faces record crime and violence in recent years due to the Illinois Safe-T act passed in 2022. The Act puts violent criminals back on the street through cashless bail. As Newsome covered in January, the homeless are left to freeze in the sub-zero temperatures of Chicago while migrants are housed, fed, and cared for on the taxpayer dime. The juxtaposition of increasing crime and cost of living with the uncapped spending on illegals has stressed the political tension to a breaking point. Recently an African American voter chastised the City Council while wearing a MAGA hat. The concerned citizen observed that previous funds going to illegal immigrants came from an opiate settlement fund. The harrowing story of a mother who lost her child from a stray bullet, and turning to opiates for solace is not out of the ordinary in Chicago.

  4. Andrew Breitbart Told Us Over a Decade Ago: Leftist Organizations Morph into New Groups with the Same Purposes, “To Put Conservatives and People in Flyover Country On the Defensive” (Video)
    by Margaret Flavin May. 5, 2024 10:40 am85 Comments

SDS, ANSWER, MoveOn, Code Pink, Occupy Wall Street, Black Lives Matter, anti-Israel encampments….the names may change over the years, but the puppet masters, funders, tactics, and goals remain the same.

The great Andrew Breitbart told a CPAC crowd in 2012 how these organizations morph over the years.

“The community organizing that crafted the anti-war movement for the purpose, the sole purpose, of getting Barrack Obama and progressives elected, which disappeared and did not hold the anti-war president to task for maintaining ‘George Bush’s wars’ is the exact same organism that created the Occupy movement in order to defend this president and to get progressive officials elected.”

“It is not the story you will see on ABC, CBS and NBC…they try to act as if this is organic. It’s organic the way the anti-war movement was….the exact same people, many of whom want to overthrow this government.”

He also detailed a telling conversation with Bernadine Dohrn at a dinner she hosted with her equally radical husband, former unrepentant Weather Underground terrorist leader Bill Ayers, where she confirmed the left’s tactics.

Breitbart asked Dohrn, “If you care so much about protesting the war, why don’t you protest the war when Barrack Obama is president? Whatever happened to the anti-war president?”

“And this has always been my thesis on Occupy…Bernadine Dohrn said, ‘Well, the anti-war movement is more or less the Occupy movement.’”

“And that is the untold story of Occupy…it is the organized left of which Bernadine and Bill are a central component and community organizers, and they transformed for cynical political purposes, the anti-war into the Occupy movement with the same purposes….to put conservatives and people in flyover country, and the good and decent in this country on the defensive.”

“And it works with the aiding and abetting of the American mainstream media.”

  5. Scoop: U.S. put a hold on an ammunition shipment to Israel

The Biden administration last week put a hold on a shipment of U.S.-made ammunition to Israel, two Israeli officials told Axios.

Why it matters: It is the first time since the Oct. 7 attack that the U.S. has stopped a weapons shipment intended for the Israeli military.

The incident raised serious concerns inside the Israeli government and sent officials scrambling to understand why the shipment was held, Israeli officials said.
President Biden is facing sharp criticism among Americans who oppose his support of Israel. The administration in February asked Israel to provide assurances that U.S.-made weapons were being used by Israel Defense Forces in Gaza in accordance with international law. Israel provided a signed letter of assurances in March.

State of play: The Israeli officials said the ammunition shipment to Israel was stopped last week.

The White House declined to comment.
The Pentagon, the State Department and the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office didn’t immediately respond to questions.

Driving the news: The Biden administration is highly concerned Israel will invade the southern Gaza city of Rafah where more than one million displaced Palestinians have been taking shelter.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released several statements in recents days saying he intended to order an invasion of Rafah regardless of whether Israel and Hamas reach a deal for the release of hostages being held in Gaza and a ceasefire.

Netanyahu hinted at tensions with the Biden administration in a statement on Holocaust Remembrance Day issued Sunday.

“In the terrible Holocaust, there were great world leaders who stood by idly; therefore, the first lesson of the Holocaust is: If we do not defend ourselves, nobody will defend us. And if we need to stand alone, we will stand alone,” he said.

Behind the scenes: Last Wednesday U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited Israel and had a “tough” conversation with Netanyahu regarding a possible Israeli operation in Rafah, two sources briefed on the meeting said.

Blinken told Netanyahu during their meeting that “a major military operation” in Rafah would lead to the U.S. publicly opposing it and would negatively impact U.S.-Israel relations.
A day later White House spokesman John Kirby told reporters that Israeli leaders understand that President Biden “is sincere” when he talks about the possibility of changes to U.S. policy regarding the Gaza war “should they move ahead with some sort of ground operation in Rafah that doesn’t take into account the refugees.”
White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said at a Financial Times conference in Washington on Saturday that the Biden administration made clear to Israel that the way it will conduct an operation in Rafah will influence U.S. policy towards the Gaza war.

The big picture: Egyptian and Qatari mediators are still trying to reach a hostage deal between Israel and Hamas that would lead to a pause in the fighting in Gaza.

The Biden administration is deeply involved in the efforts and CIA director Bill Burns joined talks in Cairo over the weekend.
Hamas in a statement on Friday said it was reviewing the current proposal with “positive spirit” and was “going to Cairo in the same spirit to reach an agreement.”

While Israel waits for Hamas’ response to the proposal, Netanyahu has issued several statements over the weekend saying he won’t agree to end the war as part of a hostage deal.

Israeli Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant visited Israeli military forces in Gaza on Saturday and said Israel sees “worrying signals” that Hamas isn’t going to move toward an agreement on releasing hostages.
“This means that an operation in Rafah and in other parts of Gaza will take place in the very near future,” Gallant said.

  7. Israel-Gaza war: Israel shuts Kerem Shalom crossing after Hamas fires rockets
    1 hour ago

Israel has closed the Kerem Shalom crossing into Gaza after Hamas fired rockets from within the strip.

At least 10 people were injured, some seriously, Israeli media report.

The armed wing of Hamas said it had targeted troops with short-range rockets.

Mediators in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, have held two days of talks aimed at securing a deal for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages held by Hamas.

In a statement, Hamas said the latest round had ended on Sunday and that its delegation would now travel to Qatar toconsult with the group’s leadership.

The truce proposal is believed to involve a 40-day pause in fighting while hostages are released, and the release of a number of Palestinian prisoners being held in Israeli jails.

The main sticking point appears to be whether the ceasefire deal would be permanent or temporary.

Hamas is insisting any deal makes a specific commitment towards an end to the war, but Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected that on Sunday.

“The state of Israel cannot accept this [Hamas’s demands], we are not prepared to accept a situation in which the Hamas brigades come out of their bunkers, take control of Gaza again, rebuild their military infrastructure, and return to threatening the citizens of Israel in the settlements surrounding the southern mountains, in all parts of the country.

“This will be a terrible defeat for the state of Israel,” he added.

The war began after waves of Hamas gunmen stormed across Gaza’s border into Israel on 7 October, killing about 1,200 people and taking more than 250 hostages. The group is proscribed as a terrorist organisation by many Western countries.

During the subsequent Israeli military campaign in Gaza, more than 34,600 Palestinians have been killed and over 77,900 wounded, according to figures from the territory’s Hamas-run health ministry.

Mr Netanyahu has faced pressure from within his far-right coalition to press ahead with the long-promised offensive in Gaza’s southern-most city, Rafah, where an estimated 1.4 million people have taken shelter after fleeing fighting in northern and central parts of the strip.

The US is reluctant to back a military operation that could cause significant civilian casualties, and has insisted on seeing a plan to protect displaced Palestinians first.

The Israeli government also faces mounting pressure at home.

Of the 252 hostages who were kidnapped by Hamas on 7 October, 128 are still unaccounted for – and among them, at least 34 are presumed dead.

Addressing the strike on the Kerem Shalom crossing, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said 10 projectiles had been fired from an area near the Rafah crossing in southern Gaza, about 3.6km (2.2 miles) from Kerem Shalom.

The IDF said they were fired from a site some 350m from a civilian shelter, before it destroyed the launcher and a nearby military site.

It called the launches “another clear example of the terrorist organisation’s systematic exploitation of humanitarian facilities and spaces, and their continued use of the Gazan civilian population as human shields”.

Ceasefire talks have gone on for months without a breakthrough, and there has not been a pause in fighting or a release of hostages since the end of November.

  8. President Trump Calls For Jack Smith to be Arrested After Special Counsel Admits HE LIED TO THE COURT About Classified Docs Seized from Mar-a-Lago
    by Cristina Laila May. 5, 2024 1:20 pm317 Comments

President Trump this weekend called for Jack Smith to be arrested after the Special Counsel admitted in a court filing that he lied to the court about the classified documents seized from Mar-a-Lago.

“ARREST DERANGED JACK SMITH. HE IS A CRIMINAL!” Trump said in a Truth Social post this weekend.

Jack Smith admitted he lied to the Court about the classified documents seized from Mar-a-Lago in a motion filed late Friday night.

Special Counsel Jack Smith on Friday evening responded to Trump’s co-defendant Walt Nauta’s motion to extend a deadline for disclosures in the classified documents case.

Recall that Walt Nauta, a former White House employee and Navy veteran who worked valet for Trump and served as a personal staffer at Mar-a-Lago was indicted along with Trump last year.

In a motion filed late Friday, Jack Smith admitted the FBI messed with the boxes containing “classified” documents they seized from Trump and can’t be sure the order or the placement of the documents.

In a May 1 filing, Walt Nauta’s attorney claimed he had difficulty in cross-referencing materials in classified and unclassified discovery because “certain items in the seized boxes he reviewed were in a different order from where they appear in the scans of the boxes’ contents produced in discovery.”

Jack Smith in his Friday night response admitted the FBI moved the classified documents around.

According to a footnote in the motion reviewed by The Gateway Pundit, the FBI messed with the boxes containing the ‘classified’ documents they seized from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.

The DOJ previously assured the Court that the placement of classified documents as originally found had been maintained – THEY LIED!

Footnote 3: The Government acknowledges that this is inconsistent with what Government counsel previously understood and represented to the Court. See, e.g., 4/12/24 Hearing Tr. at 65 (Government responding to the Court’s question of whether the boxes were “in their original, intact form as seized” by stating “[t]hey are, with one exception; and that is that the classified documents have been removed and placeholders have been put in the documents”

The DOJ in August 2022 lied to the Court when they claimed the red, blue and yellow sheets shown in the viral photo of the classified documents indicated their classification status.

It turns out they were “slip sheets” the FBI used to replace the so-called classified documents.

The FBI admitted they messed with Trump’s documents! The FBI used cover sheets as placeholders for the classified documents.

“After the boxes were brought to WFO, the FBI created an index to correlate the documents with classification markings to codes (e.g., document “bb”) and labeled the classified cover sheets in the boxes with the codes for the seized documents. The FBI also generally replaced the handwritten sheets with classified cover sheets annotated with the index code, but regardless, any handwritten sheets that currently remain in the boxes do not represent additional classified documents—they were just not removed when the classified cover sheets with the index code were added. In many but not all instances, the FBI was able to determine which document with classification markings corresponded to a particular placeholder sheet.”

“The government headed by me unanimously decided: The incitement channel Al Jazeera will be closed in Israel,” wrote Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on X, while thanking Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi.

Karhi added, “Our orders will go into effect immediately. Too much time has passed and too many unnecessary legal hurdles for us to finally be able to stop Al Jazeera’s well-oiled incitement machine that harms the security of the country.”

435,855 souls would have been lost in a Tel Aviv genocide, 104,656 women and children murdered in Ashdod, and 354 hospitals obliterated across Israel.

Additionally, 1,204 synagogues, 158 churches, and 73 mosques would have been consumed by flames, along with their congregants, due to relentless rocket attacks from #Hamas in #Gaza and Iranian proxies in Lebanon, Iraq, and Syria.

If not for #Israel’s Iron Dome, all of the above would have happened by now. Truly, the world is but an “Iron Dome” away from catastrophe, massacre, and genocide.

They’re setting up camp and won’t leave until the uni disinvests etc. Tents, flags, masks etc, looks like a copy of the protests on US campuses. The speaker in the video sounds british btw, that’s not a dutch accent.
