Reader’s Links for April 13th, 2024

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. Anarchy in the UK: Squatters Take Over £13 Million London Pub Owned by Celebrity Chef Gordon Ramsay
    by Kristinn Taylor Apr. 13, 2024 9:30 am76 Comments

A luxurious London pub and boutique hotel owned by celebrity British chef Gordon Ramsay has been taken over by a gang of squatters who are threatening legal action if an effort is made to remove them, according to reports that place the value of the property at 13 million pounds sterling (About $16.2 million.)

Excerpt from the UK Sun report:

The gang, said to be made up of at least six “professional squatters”, used Ramsay’s own kitchen appliances to barricade themselves in and have glued shut the locks.

Photos show the swanky bar area of the venue — which had been temporarily closed for a handover — resembling a tip, with debris sprawled everywhere and a squatter crashed out on a leather sofa.

Ramsay, 57, was about to sign over a multi-million pound lease to new partners when the gang broke in to the York & Albany pub and boutique hotel near Regent’s Park, central London.

The TV chef — who was embroiled in a legal battle over the venue back in 2015 — called the police last Wednesday but has been unable to remove the squatters from the 19th-century building.

    SNIP

They have also slapped a legal notice on the front door, saying they are entitled to stay there as it “is a non-residential building”.

They claim that the law which prevents squatting is not applicable because it “was NOT designed or adapted, before the time of our entry, for use as a place to live”.

Incredibly, they then threaten legal action, suggesting that if anyone tries to enter “by violence” they could end up in jail for six months.

They warn: “Take notice that we occupy this property and at all times there is at least one person in occupation.

“That any entry or attempt to enter into these premises without our permission is therefore a criminal offence as any one of us who is in physical possession is opposed to such entry without our permission.

“That if you attempt to enter by violence or by threatening violence we will prosecute you.

“You may receive a sentence of up to six months’ imprisonment and/or a fine of up to £5,000.”

The note, signed by “The Occupiers”, also warns: “If you want to get us out you will have to issue a claim for possession in the County Court or in the High Court.”

End excerpt. Please read the complete Sun report at this link for more including photos of the squatters.

  2. Shocker: Federal Judge Refuses to Toss Hunter Biden’s Gun Charges
    by Jim Hoft Apr. 13, 2024 8:45 am87 Comments

In January federal prosecutors urged the judge in charge to reject Hunter Biden’s efforts to dismiss the gun charges brought against him.

This came after the prosecutors revealed that the brown leather gun pouch used by Hunter Biden tested positive for cocaine residue.

This case against Hunter delves back to 2018 when an investigation into Hunter Biden led to the discovery of the questionable substance on his gun pouch. The analysis, carried out by an FBI chemist, authenticated that the residue found was indeed cocaine. This alarming find was part of a broader court filing that was intended to bolster the case against Hunter Biden.

Last year, Hunter Biden was indicted on federal gun charges. He faced indictment in a Delaware court on three counts relating to his possession of a firearm while using drugs.

  3. Berkeley Students Disrupt Dinner at Law Dean’s Home; Accuse Law Professor of Assault

UC Berkeley’s law school dean, Erwin Chemerinsky, and his wife, law professor Catherine Fisk, faced a bizarre scene this week when third-year students invited into their home for a dinner held a disruptive protest and refused to leave. The students accused Fisk of assault after she tried to pull a microphone from the hands of Malak Afaneh, leader of Berkeley Law Students for Justice in Palestine.

Afaneh has been featured by Berkeley on its website discussing how “As a proud Muslim immigrant, a first gen, low income student, and a survivor, I know exactly what it feels like to not have anyone in your corner.” She added:

“As leaders at Berkeley Law, we have the privilege of being in spaces where we can gain access surrounding the U.S. legal system, information that is gatekept and withheld from the very communities that often need it the most.”

It appears that one of those privileged spaces was the Dean’s home. Chemerinsky was warned that protests might be held at his home. Moreover, flyers appeared around campus opposing the dinners.

Chemerinsky discussed this threat in a statement to the school:

“The students responsible for this had the leaders of our student government tell me that if we did not cancel the dinners, they would protest at them. I was sad to hear this, but made clear that we would not be intimidated and that the dinners would go forward for those who wanted to attend. I said that I assumed that any protest would not be disruptive.”

The Berkeley Law Students for Justice in Palestine depicted Dean Chemerinsky in a cartoon with a bloody knife and fork, which were denounced as anti-Semitic and raised images of the ancient blood libel against Jews.

  5. Biden DOJ Slow-Walks ‘Slam Dunk’ Case Against Man Who Allegedly Tried To Kill Justice Kavanaugh, Baffling Experts
Nicholas Roske is accused of trying to murder the conservative Supreme Court justice over his position on abortion

President Joe Biden’s Department of Justice is dragging its feet in prosecuting Nicholas Roske, the man accused of trying to assassinate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, leaving legal experts perplexed about the slow-moving pace of the case.

Roske was indicted for attempted murder of a Supreme Court justice nearly two years ago in June 2022, after allegedly traveling from his parent’s home in California to the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C., with the intent to kill Kavanaugh. Roske, a biological male who identified in some online posts as a transgender woman, was upset over the leaked Supreme Court draft opinion overturning Roe v. Wade, according to court documents.

After arriving by taxi at Kavanaugh’s house, Roske called the police on himself and was eventually found with a suitcase full of guns, ammo, zip ties, and other tools to carry out the attack. However, the case—which one legal expert who spoke to the Washington Free Beacon called a “slam dunk” for federal prosecutors—has seen almost a dozen continuances since Roske last appeared in court in October 2022, and still no plea has been reached or trial date set.

“It’s noteworthy that after nearly two years, there is still no trial date or plea agreement in this case,” Gerard Filitti, senior counsel at The Lawfare Project, told the Free Beacon. “While pretrial motions would resolve questions about the admissibility of some of the evidence, including statements made by Roske, there is no underlying procedural reason why it would take this long to get to trial.”

  6. Teacher at Veenendaal Islamic Center preaching hatred toward non-Muslims: report
    https://nltimes.nl/2024/04/12/teacher-veenendaal-islamic-center-preaching-hatred-toward-non-muslims-report
Islam teacher Musa Ibn Yusuf of the Islamic center Ar-Rahmah in Veenendal is urging Dutch Muslims to hate people of other faiths. “There is no solidarity with Christians,” he said in a podcast on YouTube, De Telegraaf reports. “Solidarity is simply wrong. There is just hatred towards those who do not believe in the enlightenment of Islam.”
Musa Ibn Yusuf was responding to a report that a church made parking spaces available for an adjacent mosque during the month of Ramadan.
The Dutch intelligence service AIVD has long had concerns about the principle of Al-wal?? wa-l-bar? – a concept of “loyalty and disavowal” associated with Salafist Islam, according to the newspaper. “Part of the doctrine is an aversion to Muslims and non-believers who think differently, which can also mean an aversion to Dutch society as a whole,” the service wrote.
The AIVD also noted that, in recent years, many Dutch Salafists have taken a more moderate tone, realizing they can reach more people if they stop preaching aversion. But some stick to the Al-wal?? wa-l-bar? principle.

  11. Fewer Than One in Four Americans Have a Positive View of Federal Government
    by Cassandra MacDonald Apr. 13, 2024 2:40 pm177 Comments

According to a new poll, fewer than one in four Americans have a favorable opinion about the federal government.

The Pew Research Center released data from their American Trends Panel survey on Thursday, which found only 22 percent of adults have a positive opinion of the federal government.

Pew reports, “State governments get mixed ratings: 50% of adults have a favorable opinion and 49% have an unfavorable view. This reflects a 4-point decline in favorability since 2022 and a 9-point decline since 2019.”

Additionally, “61% of adults rate their local government positively. But this, too, is down from 66% in 2022 and 69% in 2019.”

Democrats are approximately three times as likely as Republicans to have a positive view of the federal government.

  12. POWDER KEG AFRICA: Niger Protest Demands Departure of US Troops, Right as Russian Military ‘Instructors’ Are Welcomed
    by Paul Serran Apr. 13, 2024 8:00 pm17 Comments

The rapidly changing situation in Africa’s Sahel region saw the collapse of French post-colonial rule, but American influence is also at stake in the wake of coups in multiple countries, ushering into power military juntas that are developing bilateral relations with Russia.

In the case of Niger, this situation escalated up to the point where the Niger Junta Severed the ongoing US Military Cooperation Agreement and Ordered its troops and civilian personnel out of the Country

A spokesman for the Niger military junta, Major Amadou Abdramane, stated clearly, with no margin for interpretation: ‘The American bases and civilian personnel cannot stay on Nigerien soil any longer.’

Since then, the US has been scrambling to assess the future of its ‘counterterrorism operations’ in the Sahel.

Now, it arises that a crowd took to the streets of Niger’s capital today (13) to demand the departure of U.S. troops, mere days after the Junta welcomed new Russian military instructors.

    Reuters reported:

“Marching arm in arm through central Niamey, the crowd waved Nigerien flags in a demonstration that recalled anti-French protests that spurred the withdrawal of France’s forces from Niger last year after the army seized power in a coup.

One hand-written sign in English read ‘USA rush out of Niger’, in a show of support for the junta and its decision in mid-March to revoke an accord that had allowed around 1,000 U.S. military personnel to operate on its territory out of two bases.

  13. Brutal Iranian Regime Sends Out Morality Police on the Streets of Iran – To Attack Iranian Citizens and Protesters Following Iranian Attacks on Israel – VIDEO
    by Jim Hoft Apr. 13, 2024 7:00 pm171 Comments

FOX Contributor Ellie Cohanim reported moments ago that the Iranian regime is sending out morality police into the streets of Iran.

The brutal regime is afraid of the possible protest movement that could develop in the streets.

Ellie Cohanim: I have no doubt the the Iranian leadership themselves are very scared right now… I have to tell our audience that just a few hours ago Iranians put out the morality police on the streets of the country. So it’s an interesting situation… I believe it’s because they expect perhaps the Iranian people might take to the streets at a moment like this, at a moment of war. So they have their morality police ready to attack Iranians. So they know themselves how vulnerable they are.
