Reader’s Links for April 6th, 2024

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. Last week House Republicans proposed a resolution to rename Dulles Airport in Washington DC after President Trump.

A bill introduced by Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA) seeks to rename Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia to “Donald J. Trump International Airport.”

A bill introduced by Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA) seeks to rename Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia to “Donald J. Trump International Airport.”

On March 29th, Rep. Reschenthaler introduced H.R. 7845, which aims “To designate the Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia as the Donald J. Trump International Airport.”

The bill currently has six co-sponsors, which include:

    Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX)
    Rep. Charles Fleischmann (R-TN)
    Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ)
    Rep. Barry Moore (AL-R)
    Rep. Andrew Ogles (R-TN)
    Rep. Michael Waltz (FL-R)

In response to this move, House Democrats on Friday introduced legislation to rename a federal prison after President Trump.

This was another cheap shot by Democrats and comes after years of Democrats attacking police and destroying the country with open borders.

And, after years of unprecedented lawfare suits against the former president, they thought this would be cute.

  2. Myanmar: Only Bad Guys Can Have Guns

Reporting from the war zone in Burma/Myanmar

The UN and the global community have failed to enforce an arms embargo against the Myanmar junta, which receives weapons from Russia and China, while private donors are prohibited from supplying weapons to the rebels.

Late in the afternoon on Easter Sunday, the Burmese army launched airstrikes against a Buddhist temple in Karen State, where civilians from the nearby village had taken refuge. Five-hundred-pound bombs rained down for more than 10 hours. There were no soldiers in the village, so the strike had no military objective. In the end, women and children were among the dead, as was the head monk, whose body was torn in half. The villagers will likely join the ranks of the roughly 2 million internally displaced people (IDPs) in Burma.

The IDPs have no UN protection and remain prime targets for the Burmese military. They also have little or no support from outside. Humanitarian aid given by the US, EU, and UN goes directly to the junta. These donations end up funding the war, displacing and killing the very civilians the outside world mistakenly believed they were helping.

  3. Years of Government Censorship Called ‘Potential Health Danger’

Turley says public’s loss of confidence ‘could prove disastrous’

There’s a real danger coming for Americans should there be another pandemic, which in all probability will happen at some time.

And it’s not necessarily from the actual health danger, it stems from the censorship and misinformation campaigns that the American government launched during the COVID-19 threat.

That’s according to Jonathan Turley, a law professor at George Washington University.

Long considered a constitutional expert, he’s testified before Congress on a variety of constitutional disputes, and even represented members in court.

  4. Aileen Cannon: Portrait of a Judge in the Fractured Double Reality of American Justice

The residents of Fort Pierce, Florida, are not accustomed to seeing dark SUVs and flashing motorcycles speed down the town’s main thoroughfare bordering the shore of the Atlantic Ocean. Part beach getaway, part working class community, the city is located about 60 miles north of the luxurious Palm Beach estate of the most famous – and frequent –criminal defendant in recent history: Donald J. Trump.

Judge Aileen Cannon, who is presiding over the so-called classified documents trial.

When Special Counsel Jack Smith filed a sprawling indictment against Trump that included 32 counts of violating the Espionage Act for allegedly taking national defense records when he left office, he not only put the 43-year-old judge in the spotlight – he also put her in the crosshairs.

Since being assigned the case in June 2023, Cannon has been widely attacked by Trump’s critics, who demand that she recuse herself from the case for a variety of reasons, including a perceived conflict based on the fact she was appointed by Trump in 2020, and on her inexperience on the bench.

A few days after Cannon received the case, Barbara McQuade, an Obama-appointed assistant U.S. attorney and cable news legal analyst, told the Washington Post, “Judge Cannon could delay the case at the request of Trump, either to provide time to adequately prepare for trial or to avoid interfering with his presidential campaign. She really has the ability to wreak havoc.”

That same week, Obama’s Attorney General, Eric Holder, told MSNBC, “I don’t have confidence in her abilities to be fair or to be seen as fair.”

Michael Bromowich, one of the lawyers who represented Brett Kavanaugh accuser Christine Blasey Ford, tweeted that Cannon was not “experienced, smart, [or] impartial” enough to handle the history-making case. “If she has any self-awareness, she should recuse herself.”

  5. SHOCK: Ecuador Troops Invade Mexican Embassy To Arrest Former Vice President Jorge Glas Who Was Granted Asylum (VIDEOS)
    by Paul Serran Apr. 6, 2024 11:20 am0 Comments

The Friday night in Latin America was filled with political turmoil, as an elite group of the Ecuadorian army RAIDED the Mexican embassy in Quito, to arrest former vice-president Jorge Glas, a fugitive from local justice who had been granted political asylum by Mexico.

Armed Soldiers of the Ecuadorian Army, in black vehicles, broke the external doors of the Mexican diplomatic headquarters and accessed the courtyards.

Glas, convicted of corruption charges, was arrested and taken into custody.

Watch: Glas is taken out of the Mexican embassy. Head of the Mexican Embassy, Roberto Canseco, tries to stop them, is contained by police.

The reaction was immediate: head of the Mexican Embassy, Roberto Canseco spoke out:

“This is not possible. This is madness!!! I am worried because they might kill him. There is no basis for this. It is completely outside all normality, and they are doing it because he is a persecuted person. I am totally defenseless, the country is taken over by this group. This is the worst case I have ever experienced in my career.”

Article 22 of the Vienna Convention states that diplomatic premises cannot be violated.

  6. ‘We Never Get Earthquakes’: Unaware of Fault Lines, New Jersey Senate Candidate Blames Tremor on Climate Hoax
    by Ben Kew Apr. 6, 2024 11:00 am218 Comments

A New Jersey Senatorial candidate blamed yesterday’s earthquakes in New York and New Jersey on so-called climate change.

Christina Amira Khalil, who is running as a Green Party candidate, gave her account of the 4.8 magnitude earthquake on the X platform.

“I experienced my first earthquake in NJ. We never get earthquakes,” she wrote. “The climate crisis is real. The weirdest experience ever.”

    ======================================================

    Living on the Fault Line
A major earthquake isn’t likely here, but if it comes, watch out.

At precisely 8:59 am on February 21, Bernardsville resident Liz Burns, 29, stepped out of the shower in the two-story house she shares with her boyfriend and heard a loud rumbling. Almost immediately, the house began to shake. “My boyfriend said it sounded like an explosion,” says Burns, “but to me it was more like the noise the washing machine makes when it’s overloaded and rumbles and shakes the whole basement.”

The couple checked with Burns’s parents, who live in nearby Basking Ridge, and they, too, had heard and felt something, which they thought might have been an earthquake. A call by Burns some 20 minutes later to the Bernardsville Police Department—one of many curious and occasionally panicky inquiries that Sunday morning, according to the officer in charge, Sergeant John Remian—confirmed their suspicion: A magnitude 2.6 earthquake, its epicenter in Peapack/Gladstone, about seven miles from Bernardsville, had hit the area. A smaller aftershock followed about two and a half hours later.

After this year’s epic earthquakes in Haiti, Chile, Mexico, Indonesia, and China, the 2.6 quake and aftershock that shook parts of New Jersey in February may seem minor league, even to the Somerset County residents who experienced them. On the exponential Richter Scale, a magnitude 7.0 quake like the one that hit Haiti in January is almost 4 million times stronger than a quake of 2.6 magnitude. But comparisons of magnitude don’t tell the whole story.

Northern New Jersey straddles the Ramapo Fault, a significant ancient crack in the earth’s crust. The longest fault in the Northeast, it begins in Pennsylvania and moves into New Jersey, trending northeast through Hunterdon, Somerset, Morris, Passaic, and Bergen counties before terminating in New York’s Westchester County, not far from the Indian Point Energy Center, a nuclear power plant. And though scientists dispute how active this roughly 200 million-year-old fault really is, many earthquakes in the state’s surprisingly varied seismic history are believed to have occurred on or near it. The fault line is visible at ground level and likely extends as deep as nine miles below the surface.

  7. Trans Activists Debate on Redditt: Which is Better to Further Their Political Cause- Committing Mass Suicide or Mass Genocide of ‘Cis’ People
    by Margaret Flavin Apr. 6, 2024 12:20 pm148 Comments

The managing editor of the Babylon Bee, Joel Berry, spotted a disturbing thread on Redditt where trans activists debated which would further their cause best: engaging in mass suicide or committing mass genocide of “cis” people.

“Cisgender” is used to describe someone who identifies with biology, i.e., they identify with their actual biological sex at birth.

Berry spotted the thread and shared it on X.

“What’s the downside to killing yourself gruesomely in public?” one poster asked. “I feel like society has to know. has to own up for its mistakes on transgender people. I might go down the Aaron Bushnell method and do some self immolation in like a public mall or something. maybe in front of a government building, or maybe with a shotgun (although I am a minor and I can’t access this…unfortunately. Please. any tips would be greatly appreciated. Its over for me as I was destined for a life of midshit mediocracy but with this I can become a martyr and leader of the transgender revolution.”

A poster replied, “Honestly, if this is where to hypothetically happen Cissies would not listen, they’d just label it another mentally ill tranny. instead We gotta work to create a transethnostate.”

Another poster laid out a more permanent solution, “Hmmmmm how about cis genocide instead. why kill ourselves when we can fight back?”

It appears discussing the mass murder of people who radical trans activists oppose does not violate Redditt’s terms of service.

  8. “America’s General” – Inside the Premier and a First-Look at General Michael Flynn’s Movie, “Flynn: Deliver the Truth. Whatever the Cost”
    by Brian Lupo Apr. 6, 2024 12:00 pm36 Comments

Last night, close to one thousand patriots gathered in a small ballroom-style convention center in the beautiful seaside town of Venice, FL for the premier of “Flynn: Deliver the Truth. Whatever the Cost”. The town’s size and proximity to the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico made it the perfect venue to kick off the nationwide tour that General Mike Flynn has embarked on to share his story of the lawfare waged against him and his family.

Joined on the tour by retired Green Beret Lt. Col. Ivan Raiklin and Sgt Boone Cutler, General Flynn shines a light on the persecution the Flynn family has faced for the last 7 years and is now similarly being turned loose on everyday Americans, such as the 71-year old grandma who prayed inside the US Capitol on January 6th and was just found guilty of her ‘atrocious’ behavior (end sarcasm).

Or the pro-life Catholic father of 7 who was defending his 12-year-old son from sexually-explicit harassment thrown in his face by a deranged abortion-loving grown man on a sidewalk. The local authorities declined to press charges but the Federal Government shortly after swooped in, guns drawn with full battle-rattle, in a 25+ man FBI raid on his Pennsylvania home with all seven inside. Even the judge who presided over the ‘not guilty’ verdict raised issue with how thin the case was.

Or perhaps Alfredo Luna, a US Marine-turned-police-officer in California who had his home raided by the FBI in January 2021 after the January 6th protest at the US Capitol. Luna, a recipient of the Medal of Valor (the law enforcement equivalent of the Medal of Honor), was not in Washington DC on January 6th. You read that right. The basis of his warrant? A tweet.

  9. Iran tells US to ‘step aside’ as it readies response to Israel over Syria strike

A US media report says Washington is on high alert over possible retaliation against Israeli or American targets in the region
A suspected Israeli air strike hit the Iranian consulate in Damascus, killing at least 7 Iranians, including 2 generals

Iran said it asked the US to “step aside” as the country prepares a response to a suspected Israeli attack on its consulate in Syria while Hezbollah, its main proxy in the Middle East, warned the Jewish state it is prepared for war.

In a written message to Washington, Iran “warned the US not to get dragged into Netanyahu’s trap”, Mohammad Jamshidi, the Iranian president’s deputy chief of staff for political affairs, wrote on X, referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The US should “step aside so that you don’t get hit”.

“In response, the US asked Iran not to hit American targets,” Jamshidi said.

The US has not commented on the alleged message Iran had sent

  10. DEVELOPING: Joe Biden May Have Trouble Getting on Ohio 2024 Ballot
    by Cristina Laila Apr. 6, 2024 2:00 pm322 Comments

Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose warned Ohio Democrat Chairwoman Liz Walters that Joe Biden may have trouble getting on Ohio’s general election ballot.

In a letter sent to Liz Walters, the Ohio Secretary of State warned that Joe Biden may be non-compliant because the DNC convention will take place after the state’s deadline to certify a presidential candidate.

Frank LaRose said either the Democrat party can move up its DNC convention or the Ohio state legislature must act by May 9.

“I am left to conclude that the Democratic National Committee must either move up its nominating convention or the Ohio General Assembly must act by May 9, 2024 (90 days prior to a new law’s effective date) to create an exception to this statutory requirement,” legal counsel Paul Disantis wrote in a letter to Ohio Democrat chairwoman Liz Walters obtained by ABC News.

  11. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Undercuts Democrats on January 6: ‘Little Evidence of a True Insurrection’

Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. issued a statement on the January 6 prosecutions Friday, saying that while violent rioters deserved to be punished, many prosecutions of non-violent protesters were excessive.

Kennedy’s statement undercuts the Democratic Party’s effort to portray the 2024 election as a “defense of democracy” and a referendum on the so-called “insurrection,” which Democrats blame on former President Donald Trump.

    Kennedy’s statement reads as follows:

January 6 is one of the most polarizing topics on the political landscape. I am listening to people of diverse viewpoints on it in order to make sense of the event and what followed. I want to hear every side.

It is quite clear that many of the January 6 protestors broke the law in what may have started as a protest but turned into a riot. Because it happened with the encouragement of President Trump, and in the context of his delusion that the election was stolen from him, many people see it not as a riot but as an insurrection.

I have not examined the evidence in detail, but reasonable people, including Trump opponents, tell me there is little evidence of a true insurrection. They observe that the protestors carried no weapons, had no plans or ability to seize the reins of government, and that Trump himself had urged them to protest “peacefully.”

Like many reasonable Americans, I am concerned about the possibility that political objectives motivated the vigor of the prosecution of the J6 defendants, their long sentences, and their harsh treatment. That would fit a disturbing pattern of the weaponization of government agencies — the DoJ, the IRS, the SEC, the FBI, etc. — against political opponents.

One can, as I do, oppose Donald Trump and all he stands for, and still be disturbed by the weaponization of government against him.

As President, I will appoint a special counsel — an individual respected by all sides — to investigate whether prosecutorial discretion was abused for political ends in this case, and I will right any wrongs that we discover. Without the impartial rule of law, there is no true democracy or moral governance. That’s why John Adams, a staunch patriot, defended the British soldiers involved in the Boston Massacre in court. If we betray justice in pursuit of an ideal, that betrayal will corrupt anything we accomplish.

Both establishment parties are using J6 to pour fuel on the fire of America’s divisions. Each side claims that a victory by their opponents means the end of democracy. Then, anything is justified to stop them. We run the risk of destroying democracy in order to save it.

Instead of demonizing our opponents as apocalyptic threats to democracy, let’s focus on the issues and priorities of how they will govern, and defeat them at the ballot box rather than through legal maneuvers and dirty tricks. Presidents Trump and Biden both presided over the continued worsening of our national debt, chronic disease epidemic, government corruption, erosion of civil liberties, and foreign military entanglements. Maybe it is because the establishment parties differ very little on these key issues that they campaign on the demonization of their opponents and all who support them instead.

Kennedy left the Democratic Party after it became clear that it would be impossible for him to win enough delegates to challenge incumbent President Joe Biden, thanks to the anti-democratic superdelegate system, which is a barrier to insurgent candidates in the primary.

Some polls have Kennedy polling in double-digits against Trump and Biden. Trump leads Biden in most swing states.

Explosion and Fire Reported on Akal Bravo Maritime Oil Platform in Mexico
    by Jim H?ft Apr. 6, 2024 10:00 pm30 Comments

An explosion followed by a severe fire has been reported on the “Akal Bravo” maritime oil platform, part of the Catarell production complex in the Campeche Sound, Mexico.

While details are still emerging, the situation is being closely monitored by maritime authorities and Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), Mexico’s state-owned petroleum company.

Initial information surfaced when videos began circulating on social media platforms, depicting an intense fire aboard the Pemex-operated Akal Bravo platform.

    WATCH

This event marks the first explosion of the year within the Gulf of Mexico’s oil network, specifically within the Cantarell production area, a critical location for Mexico’s oil output. Approximately 300 personnel are estimated to work across the oil platforms in this region. Firefighting boats were dispatched to the scene to help control and eventually extinguish the blaze.

In an official statement, Pemex detailed the events: At 4:48 p.m. local time, a “fire outbreak” occurred at the Akal-B Process Center (Akal-B1), specifically in the section housing pipelines used to transport fuel gas for turbomachinery. The company’s Emergency Response Plan (PRE) was activated, and the fire was controlled at 5:04 p.m.

The company also reported that two of its workers and seven contractors (three from DIAVAZ and four from COTER) suffered non-serious injuries. All injured personnel were transported to Ciudad del Carmen for thorough evaluation.
