The fee Manhattan Judge Arthur Engoron ordered President Trump to pay (with no jury involved) included about $355 million in disgorgement and more than $98 million in prejudgment interest at a 9% annual rate. Additionally, the judge banned President Trump from business in NYC for three years as an officer or director and from applying for loans from any NY chartered or registered financial institution.

Shareholders on Friday voted to take Trump’s social media company public.
Investors in Digital World Acquisition Corporation ($DWAC) approved the special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) to merge with Trump Media & Technology Group, the parent company of Truth Social, to become a newly combined publicly traded entity.
The new entity will publicly trade under the stock symbol $DJT as early as next week.
$DJT will debut with a market value of more than $5 billion and President Trump’s 60 percent stake of the company could be worth about $3 billion.

Woman Found Murdered in NYC Apartment After Confronting Squatters in Late Mother’s Home — Suspects Remain at Large

A 52-year-old woman was found murdered and concealed in a duffel bag in her late mother’s Manhattan apartment, following a violent confrontation with squatters, NYPD officials reported on Thursday.
Nadia Vitel, the victim, had recently traveled from Spain and was preparing her mother’s vacant 19th-floor apartment on East 31st Street for a family friend to move into. Upon her arrival, she encountered two unauthorized occupants, a man, and a woman in their 20s, according to New York Post.
NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny informed the press, “We believe that some squatters took the apartment over and this woman came home … and walked in on the squatters that were there.”
A violent struggle ensued, during which Vitel was reportedly thrown against a sheetrock wall, according to ABC News. The assault left her with fatal injuries, including blunt force trauma to the head, multiple facial fractures, a brain hemorrhage, and two broken ribs.

The Arizona rancher who was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault for defending his wife and property from illegal invaders will go on trial on Friday.
George Alan Kelly, 74, was arrested for killing Gabriel Cuen-Butimea, on his Arizona ranch in Kino Springs just outside of Nogales, Mexico on January 30, 2023.

Strange things are afoot on Maryland’s historic Eastern Shore. And the people who live there want to know why.
Situated less than 10 miles from the birthplace of the great 19th-century slave-turned-abolitionist Frederick Douglass, the tiny town of Ridgely made news last week when its board of commissioners, without explanation, suspended the town’s entire police force, according to WMAR-TV in Baltimore.
“It doesn’t add up,” local business owner Gennie Woo said, according to Fox News. “Everybody is skeptical about what happened. We just want to know how and why.”
Indeed, the lack of transparency made residents wonder about the trustworthiness of everyone involved in the suspensions, including the police.
“We were blindsided. It makes you question the integrity of people who are supposed to protect and serve,” local spa owner Holly Justice said.
Longtime resident Laura Cline seemed outraged — even rightly insulted — by the secrecy of it all.
“What’s very concerning is that they didn’t communicate with us in an honest and open way,” Cline said of the commissioners. “Treat us with respect. We’re adults — thinking, rational adults who deserve the truth.”

Except it wasn’t one of her children. It was an innocent mother with young children and no affiliation with Rowling.

The White House on Friday blamed Texas Governor Greg Abbott for the invasion at El Paso and said he has been ‘politicizing’ the border fight.

James, Engoron Turning U.S. into ‘3rd World’ Nation, Commentary Warns

We are losing equal justice under the law’
A commentary published at the Washington Examiner warns that New York Attorney General Leticia James and a judge there, Arthur Engoron, are turning America into a “3rd World” country with their attack on President Donald Trump.
They have worked together to come up with a $450 million penalty for Trump and his business through an archaic fraud law – despite the fact there were no complaints against Trump, no one lost any money, all the loans were repaid, and the factors involved essentially included routine real estate deal procedures.
“The biggest casualty of this grotesque abuse of prosecutorial power will be America. We are losing the one thing that separates us from Third World countries: equal justice under the law,” explained Elizabeth Stauffer, a fellow at the Heritage Foundation Academy and a contributor to multiple publications.
She pointed out that James repeatedly has threatened that if Trump cannot pay the fine plus interest, she will move to seize his New York assets.
Trump currently has a timetable to post a huge bond by next week should he want to appeal, a bond that has been called prohibitively high.
Trump’s headache in posting bond “has left James salivating over the prospect of seizing Trump’s properties after the March 25 deadline,” the column said.
It explained, “Engoron’s ruling found that Trump was liable for overstating the values of his assets on bank loan applications to obtain more favorable interest rates, which, as it turns out, is a common practice among commercial real estate developers. New York City is the financial capital of the world, and its bankers are among the most sophisticated and savvy on the planet. They expect developers to inflate property valuations and simply adjust them down to more realistic levels before making their lending decisions.”
Significantly, the commentary said, all loans were repaid on time.
“Not only was this a victimless crime, according to George Washington University Law School professor Jonathan Turley, but during the trial, ‘witnesses [loan officers] testified that they wanted to do more business with Trump, who was described as a ‘whale’ client with high yield business opportunities,’” the report said.
And the ramifications already have started, with Shark Tank star Kevin O’Leary perceiving the Democrats’ abuse of the legal system against Trump as an “attack on America.”
“The reason this is the No. 1 economy on Earth is because we have laws and we have due process. And we have property rights. It attracts capital from all around the world. All of that is being shaken to the core here. It has absolutely nothing to do with Donald Trump at this point, in my view, and it is completely bipartisan. This is an attack on America. No one is going to put any money to work in New York in these amounts until this thing settles down. The whole world is watching, and everybody’s waiting for one thing we haven’t got yet: adult supervision,” he said.
Stauffer suggested given the goals established by James and Engoron, “What investor, foreign or domestic, would risk buying property in New York? Or in any other Democratic-run U.S. city? James is going for immediate gratification here and ignoring the unintended medium- and long-term consequences that will surely follow. ”
“O’Leary is right. Love him or hate him, this is bigger than Donald Trump. The biggest casualty of this grotesque abuse of prosecutorial power will be America.”

OPINION: Op-Ed in ‘The Hill’ Unintentionally Illustrates Logic Vacuum of Gun Control

Two sentences in the second paragraph of an Op-Ed in The Hill about gun control failures relating to the recent trials of James and Jennifer Crumbley—parents of Michigan school killer Ethan Crumbley—perhaps best illustrate the vacuum of logic within the gun control movement, guaranteeing that whatever restrictive laws anti-gunners adopt, they will always fall short.
Writing about the passage of the Public Act of 2023 in Michigan, Prof. Kimberly Wehle, University of Baltimore School of Law, asserts, “If that law had been in place in 2021, 15-year-old Ethan Crumbley might never have attempted the shootings because his parents — despite their shortcomings — may have complied with state law. Instead, they were found criminally liable for not imposing in their own home the very restrictions on gun access that Michigan lawmakers had neglected to enact.”
“If” is often called the “biggest word in the English language.” “Might” comes in a close second, probably in a tie with “may.” The sentence illustrates just how wrong—and perhaps wrong-headed—gun control proponents are about pushing restrictive laws and regulations, expecting people most likely to violate or merely ignore the law to suddenly comply. There is no reliable evidence of that ever happening in the history of mankind, dating from the slaying of Abel by his older brother, Cain, to the present.
Long story short, regardless of the number of times it is repeated, gun control proponents refuse to accept the reality that criminals and stubborn, stupid people do not obey every gun law. Indeed, they disobey most or all of them, figuring to not get caught. Based on what she wrote and how it is written, Wehle is an intelligent person with an interesting argument. She just happens to be mistaken.
The elder Crumbleys knew their son had behavior and emotional problems, but they bought him a 9mm handgun anyway, which he had in his backpack the day of the shooting in late 2021 at Oxford High School. Earlier in the day, when there was an opportunity to take the kid home, or at least check the contents of his backpack when he was in the school administration office, nobody did that, which pretty much underscores Prof. Wehle’s allusion to their “shortcomings.” A detailed examination of the family situation is found in the March 15 edition of New York magazine’s Intelligencer.
In the opening paragraph of her short essay, Wehle also used a term that has become the mantra among gun control advocates for which there is no strict definition: “commonsense gun safety laws,” whatever the hell this actually means. It apparently refers to whatever restrictive gun control legislation is at issue at any given moment.
The Crumbley parents were both convicted of involuntary manslaughter. Ethan Crumbley will spend the rest of his life in prison for the four murders he committed. It was not the absence of a law which allowed the crime to happen, and anyone with genuine common sense understands it. It was, instead, a combination of judgment lapses, ignoring warning signs and a violation of existing law—a juvenile possessing a handgun on school grounds, concealed in a backpack—which produced the Oxford tragedy.
First, let’s try to define what a gun prohibitionist might consider “commonsense gun safety laws.”
Licensing and registration of all guns and their owners.
Permits to purchase, issued by a government agency.
Limits on the number of firearms one might own or purchase in a single 30-90-day period.
Waiting periods of at least 10 days, and perhaps longer.
Minimum age of 21 years to purchase or own a firearm.
Mandatory “safe storage” of all firearms, perhaps subject to annual inspection by law enforcement.
Repeal of “shall-issue” concealed carry laws.
Repeal of state preemption laws.
These bullet points are just part of the gun control scheme, and it is questionable whether any would survive a constitutional challenge since there appear to have been no analogous restrictions at the time the Second Amendment was adopted. Simply put, they are all infringements on the right to keep and bear arms.
It is not guns that are the problem,it is the people.
