Reader’s Links for March 20th, 2024

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. They called her, laughing, “The woman in the white hat”.

Growing up in communist Belarus her perception of the West, like so many living behind the Iron Curtain, led her to fantasize about what life was like there. So on the day she, her husband and their young daughter arrived at Pearson International airport on that cold November day in 1998, she was fully pregnant with lofty and hopeful expectations.

Soon after arriving at their cheap hotel room way, way down Young Street far from the lake, she insisted they go for a walk in the nearby park. She had waited her whole life for this moment, she thought. Before leaving Minsk she had purchased a white dress with a matching white hat. She would make her debut in their new world befitting all the impressions that had built up inside of her over so many years. She would be elegant and classy like all the other Canadian women. She would not look out of place, and would not divulge her modest, humble beginnings by something so simple as a dress. No, she thought, in order to get a good start she had to fit in.

When they got to the park near Jane and Finch their little girl immediately ran to the swings. Her long blonde hair stood out among all the other children, who were black. Every few minutes police sirens, at times close, intruded on the green oasis, which was attached to a low-rent housing project. A skinny black woman approached her asking for a cigarette. Speaking only Russian she at first didn’t understand the request, but when the woman put her two fingers to her mouth she got it and handed the woman a smoke. The skinny black woman then turned and walked over to her friend, a fat black woman with a child in the sandbox, and chuckled saying in a thick Jamaican accent, “What a pretty white woman in a white hat doin’ here?”

Many years later the woman in the white hat confided to a friend, “I felt so stupid. I was so over dressed. I thought all Canadian women dressed this way.”

A friend of mine says irony is the most common element in the universe. Now, in Canada, naivety may run a close second. I understand normalcy bias is powerful, but there is enough smoke engulfing the federal police force there to wonder where the fire is. Running protection for a dictator, if true, is a tough concept for Canadians to imagine of the force that “…always gets their man.” Yeah, they got their man, alright.

Many immigrants from communist countries simply do not have the bandwidth to fathom the thing they fled is replicating in their adopted country. Natives born and bred may be a different matter. They have the luxury of having lived in the country before the water began to boil, so have their own lived history to compare with.

Here, two boiling frogs discuss a recent RCMP police report written for Liberal Party ideologues. Despite being heavily redacted the report elicits questions about the force, the Party, the people and the future:

    • Yep, you’ve nailed it.
The first batch that came in the late ’70s was much as you describe the lady in the white hat. Strutting around arm-in-arm, high heels and makeup. We made fun of them.

But pushy, making fun of us in Russian !! After all we had done to rescue our Refuseniks, the lavish subsidies – where was their gratitude ??

Then, right after the Olympics in 1980 the exit door was locked again. Families split, trapped till the early 1990’s. Nightmare. But by then we all changed; we interacted like normal Americans.

    • Many immigrants from communist countries simply do not have the bandwidth to fathom the thing they fled is replicating in their adopted country.

In the USA I know mostly Jews from the former Soviet Union. We’ve got the Russian Store, the Russian Math Center, kosher cafes. They’re acutely attuned to the deteriorating situation. That suitcase under the bed is packed, their savings are in gold.

    • War in Ukraine = NATO + (global mercenaries + Russians who hate Russians) VS. the Russian Federation (+ No. Korea + tardish mercenaries from the ’stans, Syria). China and Turkey stir the pot, make money off both sides.

Dima is Belorussian, his wife is Ukrainian. Very much in sync with my Russki and most his friends at the local Orthodox Church. Dima tries to keep his reports neutral, so he gets flak in comments from both pro-Ukes and pro-Ruzz.

Fact is anyone who wants to avoid escalation, to stop the bloodbath has to lean toward Russia. Not because Putin is the all-powerful saint sold by shills like those in Judge Nap’s stable, but because Russians never give up.

For centuries the god-king Tsars framed every conflict as “holy war”. Then the Soviets enforced “defense of the Motherland” as THE State religion. Now even those who bought the rules-based-order hypocrisy we preach have been totally alienated by florid, crude russophobia. Russians will tolerate far greater sacrifices than Westerners of the 21st century.

Obviously, the Kiev regime is unspeakable. Western leadership is incompetent, rated at historic lows by their own populations. Crazed revanchists don’t care, they’re all in – like arms merchants everywhere and the sinister globalists bent on control of the world.

This war is neither the cakewalk of Russian propaganda nor the destruction of the West celebrated by those who hate America here, there, and everywhere. Nor does it remotely correspond to the fantasies peddled by our MSM and the wretched one-note Sovietologists who’ve re-emerged after 30 years in mothballs.

      • Yucki you get better info from your Russki(s) than I from mine, that’s for sure. Mine is blinded by Putin hatred. Moscovite hatred is a close second. Even here it has taken years for me to drag her up to speed on what’s happening in the West because of what I wrote above. Now that it’s becoming obvious she’s coming around, but it really illustrates our problem: if we’re too far ahead we lose those we’re trying to lead. They think we’re crazy. On Israel she completely gets it because I taught her the tard problem long ago. And as a Belorusski she understands the fist needed to deal with those who only understand the fist. Hussein and Ghadafi had the last laugh at us, didn’t they. Brutality is the only tard currency that matters. Here the tards and commies use political lipstick to hide their ugly faces, and most fall for it. –An inconvenient truth thus far in the west but an existential one for Israel. In this respect I sum up Bibi’s problem with a line I once wrote: “When all small talk is large and all large talk small, why bother to speak, at all?”

  2. Report: Hunter Biden Had Access to Joe Biden’s Top Secret/SCIF-Designated Materials Including National Defense Info Related to US Troop Deployment
    by Cristina Laila Mar. 20, 2024 8:00 am183 Comments

Hunter Biden had access to then-VP Joe Biden’s Top Secret/SCIF-designated materials including national defense information related to US troop deployment while he was on vacation in Nantucket.

Via Paul Sperry: China influence-peddling Hunter Biden had access to TOP SECRET/SCI materials including “nat’l defense information” –e.g. US troop deployment/movement– while on vacation in NANTUCKET with his then-VP father where he kept docs out in the open and received daily intel briefings

Last year TGP reported that Hunter Biden likely received classified information from Joe Biden on Ukraine and then emailed the information to his business partner Devon Archer.

According to emails uncovered from the “Laptop from Hell,” Hunter Biden sent his business partner Devon Archer a very detailed email on Ukraine on April 13, 2014 – just one week before Joe Biden visited Ukraine to meet with then-Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

It appears Hunter Biden was emailing Devon Archer information he received from a briefing from his father Joe Biden or directly from top-secret documents.

“A curiously well-informed email about Ukraine, Russia and the UK on Hunter Biden’s laptop is a thread that links the President’s classified documents scandal to the Delaware federal investigation into his son’s foreign business dealings.” – the New York Post’s Miranda Devine wrote.

  3. GREEN NEW DEAL? All But One Of World’s 100 Most Polluted Cities Are in Asia
    by Ben Kew Mar. 20, 2024 7:00 am140 Comments

All but one of the world’s 100 most polluted cities are in Asia, according to a new report, underscoring how powerless the U.S. is in combatting the supposed threat of global warming.

The study, published by IQAir, focused on measuring fine particulate matter known as PM2.5, which gives an estimate of air pollution. Just nine percent of the over 7,800 cities analyzed worldwide managed to meet WHO’s standards, many of which were in America.

A majority of these cities are in India, with 83 cities identified as pollution hotspots. All these cities exceed the World Health Organization’s air quality guidelines by around 1000 percent. Other heavily polluted countries including Bangaldesh, Pakistan and Burkina Faso.

The world’s most polluted city is Begusarai, a city of around 500,000 people in northern India, with an average annual PM2.5 concentration of 118.9 — 23 times higher than World Health Organization guidelines.

IQAir Global CEO Frank Hammes argued that such pollution is shortening people’s life spans.

“We see that in every part of our lives that air pollution has an impact,” he said. “And it typically, in some of the most polluted countries, is likely shaving off anywhere between three to six years of people’s lives. And then before that will lead to many years of suffering that are entirely preventable if there’s better air quality.”

Hammes added that there will be no improvements unless such countries implement “major changes in terms of the energy infrastructure and agricultural practices.”

  4. JUST IN: Appeals Court BLOCKS Texas from Arresting and Deporting Illegals Hours After Supreme Court Ruling – Bush and Biden Judges Cast the Deciding Votes
    by Cullen Linebarger Mar. 20, 2024 6:42 am504 Comments

A federal appeals court overnight blocked a Texas law that allows authorities to arrest and deport illegal migrants just hours after the Supreme Court ruled in the state’s favor.

The Texas migration law, known as Senate Bill 4, was supposed to go into effect March 5, but the Supreme Court put it on hold for two weeks, conceding to the Biden regime and pro-illegal aliens groups who wanted the statute on ice. They claim the legislation intrudes on federal authority over immigration.

The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 to allow Texas to enforce immigration laws Tuesday afternoon. Radical-left Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Kentaji Brown Jackson both offered angry dissents in response.

The ruling, as Fox News notes, was not based on the merits of the case.

But on Tuesday night the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issued a 2-1 order stopping the law from taking effect.

  6. Federal lawsuit seeks to halt construction of Virginia Beach offshore wind farm

    Written by Katherine Hafner

A coalition of conservative groups is suing to halt Dominion Energy from constructing its planned wind farm off Virginia Beach, arguing federal officials have failed to adequately consider its potential impacts to endangered whales.

The groups, which include the Heartland Institute and Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow, filed suit in federal court Monday against agencies including the National Marine Fisheries Service and Bureau of Ocean Energy Management.

The plaintiffs say the government “illegally approved Dominion Energy’s offshore wind project by ignoring glaring and obvious procedural errors that subjects the endangered North Atlantic right whale to further grave harm.”

In a statement to WHRO Monday, Dominion spokesperson Jeremy Slayton said the issues raised in the lawsuit “have no merit.”

BOEM “has done an extraordinarily thorough environmental review of the project and carefully considered potential impacts to marine wildlife and the environment,” Slayton wrote. “The overwhelming consensus of federal agencies and scientific organizations is that offshore wind does not adversely impact marine life.”

The utility says it also has several measures in place meant to protect whales, including monitoring for marine mammals when installing piles and halting piling activities during right whales’ migration season.

In May, Dominion plans to start building its wind farm about 27 miles off the Oceanfront. It will consist of 176 turbines that the company says could power more than 600,000 homes.

The Virginia Beach project is set to become the nation’s largest commercial offshore wind farm, making it a target for legal challenges to the growing industry.

Heartland and CFACT, two of the groups behind the new lawsuit, have a long history of rejecting the scientific consensus that climate change is driven by human activity. Both groups have opposed efforts to shift to renewable energy.

James Taylor, president of Heartland, told WHRO last year he views renewable energy as the wrong direction for the country economically.

  7. U.S. Navy Commander (ret.) David Levy:
The U.S. Plan for Aid Relief in Gaza

In his 2024 State of the Union address, President Biden said, “I’m directing the U.S. military to lead an emergency mission to establish a temporary pier in the Mediterranean on the Gaza coast that can receive large ships carrying food, water, medicine, and temporary shelters.”

Washington has taken ownership of the Gaza humanitarian emergency by committing significant U.S. resources to mitigate the crisis.

In the early 1990s, the U.S. initiated a humanitarian aid operation in Mogadishu, Somalia, to alleviate the severe famine and restore order amidst the country’s civil war.

What was meant to be an aid distribution operation escalated into a military engagement when local warlords appropriated all the aid and monopolized its distribution. Intense urban warfare resulted in 18 US soldiers killed and 73 wounded, with as many as 1,000 Somalis killed.

Some in Gaza have adopted a strong Islamist worldview and may see the U.S. effort not as international aid relief but as the U.S. attempting to gain a foothold in Dar al-Islam (the territory of Islam). For Islamists, the use of force against Americans would be part of their jihad.

Some Palestinians are already calling the U.S. port another form of occupation. President Biden assured Americans that there would be no U.S. military personnel with “boots on the ground.” This likely means U.S. and foreign contractors to do the job.

    https://besacenter.org/port-of-no-return-the-us-plan-for-aid-relief-in-gaza/

    • Gaza’s Understanding of U.S. Humanitarian Aid: A “Free Lunch”

Gazans interpret U.S. humanitarian aid without a quid pro quo as unqualified American support for Hamas and Gaza and a rejection of Israel. Therefore, Gazans interpret U.S. aid as an implicit justification for their actions on Oct. 7, 2023.

Gaza views American air drops, seaport plans, and aid convoys as concrete illustrations of American solidarity with Palestinian “liberation,” which aims to eradicate Israel. Moreover, U.S. aid does not come with a “price tag” of thanks or loyalty to American aid providers.

The U.S. humanitarian aid approach has been a strategic mistake. In the more “forgiving” Western culture, it may seem cruel to demand something in return for aid. Yet, in Middle Eastern culture, giving without getting in return is considered submission. This approach weakens Israel and the West, bolsters Hamas, and renders these programs political and perceptual failures for Israel and the West.

  9. Israel’s ‘allies’ should reckon with reality

Everyone wants an end to the fighting in Gaza. The urgency is understandable. Yet, Israel intends to continue fighting until it has a) freed its hostages or their bodies and b) sufficiently incapacitated Hamas and Palestine Islamic Jihad to delay a repeat of Oct. 7 in the near future.

Hamas understands that Operation Al-Aqsa Flood was its greatest ever success, killing 1,200 Jews, turning the West against Israel and derailing progress towards Israeli-Saudi normalization. Support for Hamas is surging in the West Bank.

If the international community wants Israel to stop bombing Gaza, the international community should take over Gaza and stop Hamas attacking Israel. But the global community, with its cherished norms and spottily applied international law, much prefers to chastise Israel from afar. Get any closer and it would have to confront some unpleasant truths about those it caricatures as villains and those it fetishizes as victims.

It would find itself in Israel’s shoes, learning on the job that messy as Jerusalem’s military strategy sometimes is, it is based on bitter experience of the enemy and a necessary ruthlessness that matches the nature of the threat.

  11. BREAKING: A MESSAGE TO SCOTUS? DC US Attorney Matthew Graves Threatens to Seek More Prison Time For J6ers if Supreme Court Reverses ‘Obstruction’ Statute This Summer
    by Cristina Laila Mar. 20, 2024 12:20 pm887 Comments

US Attorney from DC Matthew Graves fired a warning shot to the US Supreme Court – and J6ers serving time for 18 USC §1512(c)(2), the ‘obstruction’ statute pending before SCOTUS.

Graves threatened to seek more prison time for the J6ers if the Supreme Court reverses the obstruction statute this summer.

The high court announced it will hear oral arguments in Fischer v. United States and at issue is statute 18 USC §1512(c)(2):

    Whoever corruptly—

    (1) alters, destroys, mutilates, or conceals a record, document, or other object, or attempts to do so, with the intent to impair the object’s integrity or availability for use in an official proceeding; or

    (2) otherwise obstructs, influences, or impedes any official proceeding, or attempts to do so, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 20 years, or both.

The Supreme Court is expected to issue a decision on Fischer v United States this summer which means hundreds of J6 cases could be upended.

Biden’s corrupt DOJ has charged more than 300 J6ers with 18 USC §1512(c)(2). Additionally, two of the four charges against Trump in Jack Smith’s DC case are conspiracy to obstruct so the Supreme Court’s ruling could torpedo the special counsel’s case against Trump as well.

  12. Executive Director of the Bill and Hillary Clinton Airport in Arkansas Shot in Head by Federal Agents After Allegedly Opening Fire
    by Jim H?ft Mar. 20, 2024 11:00 am913 Comments

Bryan Malinowski, the executive director of the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport, was shot in the head by federal agents on Tuesday following a firefight at his residence in west Little Rock.

Early Tuesday morning, around 6 am, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) agents arrived at the 53-year-old’s home to serve a warrant when they were met with gunfire from within the house, Daily Mail reported.

Arkansas State Police have confirmed that Malinowski was the individual who fired on the agents, prompting them to return fire.

The specifics of the warrant and the reasons behind the ATF’s involvement at Malinowski’s residence are still under wraps, as authorities have refrained from commenting further due to the ongoing investigation.

  13. WATCH: Hunter’s Ex-Business Partner Tony Bobulinski Turns the Tables and Humiliates AOC After She Asks a Gotcha Question Regarding Joe Biden
    by Cullen Linebarger Mar. 20, 2024 3:20 pm28 Comments

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) had a meltdown in the House of Representatives after Hunter Biden’s former business partner Tony Bobulinski turned the tables on her, providing comic relief to the proceedings.

As Jim Hoft reported earlier, The House Oversight Committee is holding its second hearing today as part of its impeachment inquiry into White House occupant Joe Biden.

Earlier, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) was caught on camera pouting like a baby while Bobulinski read him and Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) the riot act for lying on behalf of the Biden Crime Family.

AOC fared no better after trying to take Bobulinski on. The New York Congresswoman started by asking Bobulinski a gotcha question regarding the crimes he saw Joe Biden commit and tried to cut him off at various points. Her sole purpose was to humiliate him rather than obtain actual information.

But she ended up embarrassed instead. After Bobulinski finally managed to detail Biden’s crimes over her rude interruptions, AOC could not comprehend what he was saying (she doesn’t even know what RICO is!) and repeatedly asked him the same question. The humiliated congresswoman then cut him off entirely and went into a shouting meltdown.

  15. HUGE: Georgia Judge Allows Trump to Appeal Fani Willis Disqualification Decision
    by Cristina Laila Mar. 20, 2024 2:00 pm177 Comments

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee on Wednesday announced President Trump and his co-defendants can appeal the Fani Willis disqualification decision.

Judge Scott McAfee last Friday ruled District Attorney Fani Wills can continue her RICO case against Trump and his associates.

In his 23-page decision, Judge McAfee ordered Fani Willis to address the “appearance of impropriety” before the case can move forward. McAfee ruled Willis can stay on the case but must fire her lover Nathan Wade, the top prosecutor she hired to hunt down Trump.

Later Friday afternoon Nathan Wade resigned from the RICO case.

The Georgia Court of Appeals has 45 days to decide on any appeal to the judge’s disqualification order.

  16. Heavy Smoke, Flames Burst From Top of Skyscraper Near World Trade Center (VIDEO)
    by Anthony Scott Mar. 20, 2024 1:40 pm169 Comments

Thick clouds of smoke filled the New York City skyline after a skyscraper near the One World Trade Center burst into flames on Wednesday morning.

Fox 5 New York reported that FDNY officials responded to a fire on top of a 72-story skyscraper on Greenwich Street.

Fire officials on the scene shared that the fire stemmed from the skyscraper’s HVAC system on the 72-story building’s roof.

There have been no reported injuries from the fire, and firefighters have been able to contain the fire.

The heavy smoke in New York City caused a momentarily panic among some New York residents who had flashbacks of the smoke that arrived on the horizon on 9/11.

  17. ROCKET MEN: Iran Warned Not To Sell Missiles for Russia, Japan Warned Not To Transfer Missiles for Ukraine – While North Korea Has Sent Moscow SEVEN THOUSAND CONTAINERS of Missiles and Ammo

On the subject of the war in Ukraine, we see that Kiev is winning the war PR in the MSM media, Russia is winning the kinetic war on the ground, but the real winners are the weapon manufacturers, who are laughing all the way to the bank.

There does not seem to be enough inventory in this world for the needs of a large peer-to-peer war, especially when it comes to artillery ammo and missiles.

As it stands now in the ground, Russia has a 7-1 superiority in artillery, and is also vastly overpowering when it comes to missiles and, lately, the ‘smart loitering munitions’. Ukrainian forces are reportedly at the brink of collapse.

Meanwhile, a race is on to procure and secure ammo and missiles by both warring parties and their allies (and handlers).

Geopolitical and economic threats get issues from side to side: the US and western allies, warn Iran – Russia warns Japan.

And meanwhile North Korean ‘rocket man’ Jim Jong Un has sent Moscow boatloads of containers filled with the goods.

  18. Libs So Convinced Trump Will Win That They’re Trying to Boot Sotomayor Before Election
by C. Douglas Golden, The Western Journal Mar. 20, 2024 12:00 pm280 Comments

While the anger was a bit misplaced, one can easily understand why liberals were furious that the now-deceased Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg didn’t step down before the 2014 midterm elections.

After all, the writing was on the wall. In the sixth year of Barack Obama in the White House, Americans had gotten fed up with the Democrats and the Senate was poised to change hands. If Republicans were to take control of the Senate, they would stall any nominee the then-president chose to fill a vacancy on the court.

Ginsburg was 81 at the time and had battled cancer. She was the liberal-appointed justice most likely to fall to tragedy, speaking in purely actuarial terms. In fact, she had made it to the age of 87 when she died in 2020.

That was when then-President Donald Trump nominated Amy Coney Barrett to replace her and she was confirmed by a GOP-controlled Senate.

The same can’t be said for Merrick Garland, of course. In 2016, he was the man Obama was nominated to the court after the death of Justice Antonin Scalia in February of that year.

Given that the Republicans controlled the Senate, they were in no mood to confirm one of the administration’s justices, particularly in an election year, and then-Majority Leader Mitch McConnell declined to even give Garland a hearing. (Garland’s nakedly partisan contempt for the rule of law as attorney general of the United States under President Joe Biden has revealed this course of action to have been a wise one.)

However, the Democrats still have control of the White House and Senate. Whether that lasts is anyone’s guess; Trump leads Biden in the polls and outlook for the upper chamber isn’t superb for the Democrats even if they’re able to keep control of 1600 Pennsylvania.

    By definition:

Malfeasance is an act that is illegal and causes physical or monetary harm to someone else. Malfeasance is intentional conduct that is wrongful or unlawful, especially by officials or public employees.
