Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

  2. An explosive device was detonated outside of Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall’s office early Saturday morning, he said in a statement on Monday.

    Marshall said that “no staff or personnel were injured by the explosion.”

    “In the early hours of Saturday, February 24, an explosive device was detonated outside of the Alabama Attorney General’s Office building in Montgomery,” Marshall said. “Thankfully, no staff or personnel were injured by the explosion. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency will be leading the investigation, and we are urging anyone with information to contact them immediately.”

  7. COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) – Denmark on Monday joined Sweden in closing its investigation into the 2022 explosions that damaged the Nord Stream gas pipelines, with authorities saying they concluded there was deliberate sabotage but “not the sufficient grounds” to pursue a criminal case.

    Danish authorities said the probe “has been both complex and comprehensive.” Copenhagen police, which carried out the investigation jointly with the Danish security service, said they were not able to provide further comments.

    The underwater detonations on the Nord Stream gas pipelines, which were built to carry Russian natural gas to Germany, occurred in international waters but within Swedish and Danish economic zones. Sweden earlier said that a state actor was the most likely culprit.

    Denmark´s investigation was one of three into the explosions.

  8. Ukrainian Defense Intelligence agency leader Kyrylo Budanov claimed in remarks on Sunday that he had reason to believe Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, whose death the Russian government announced on February 16, died of “natural” causes, not state-sponsored homicide.

    “I may disappoint you,” Budanov told reporters, “but as far as we know, he indeed died as a result of a blood clot.”

    The Hatchard Report released this information in October 2023. From November 13, 2021, to September 26, 2022, a total of 478 applications for Significant Service Disruption exemption (SSD) were received. 103 applications were granted, covering approximately 11,005 workers.

    An OIA HNZ00023978 dated 2 August 2023 asked the following question:

    “According to the legislation at the time in 2021, there were operational exemptions available for those who were not getting vaccinated against Covid 19. Your website outlines the process of applying for an operating exemption under clause 12a. How many requests were received? How many were approved by the ministry?”

    Matt Hannant, Interim Director, Prevention, National Public Health Service, Te Whatu Ora replied:

    “From 13 November 2021 to 26 September 2022, a total of 478 applications for Significant Service Disruption exemption (SSD) were received. 103 applications were granted, covering approximately 11,005 workers. Please note that it is not possible to provide the exact number of workers that were covered by SSDs. This is because it was possible for an organisation to submit an application to cover more than one worker.”

    The city of Denver has been struggling for weeks now to pay for services for illegal border crossers. Early in February it was announced that the city would start cutting some services for taxpayers, and unsuccessfully tried to blame Republicans.

    Now the city is going to start cutting the hours of city employees, in some cases down to zero, in order to keep paying for services for illegals.

    This is simply not sustainable and anyone with an ounce of common sense knows it.

  23. Macy’s to close 150 stores as sales slip, pivots to luxury at Bloomingdale’s and Blue Mercury

    Macy’s will close 150 stores over the next three years and 50 by the end of 2024, the department store said Tuesday after posting a fourth quarter loss and declining sales.

    At the same time the company signaled a pivot to luxury. It said it would open 15 of its higher end Bloomingdale’s stores and 30 of its luxury Blue Mercury cosmetics locations.

    The company has not said which stores it will close. Macy’s has stores in Minnesota in the cities of Bloomington, Burnsville, Edina, Maplewood, Minnetonka, Rochester and St. Cloud.

    While adjusted net income and revenue topped Wall Street expectations, Macy’s offered a muted outlook for the year. Shares were essentially flat before the opening bell.

    A judge has determined that Nathan Wade’s former law partner and divorce lawyer must tell the court what he knows about the special prosecutor’s relationship with District Attorney Fani Willis – a decision that could produce more bombshell testimony as defense attorneys seek to disqualify the DA from prosecuting the Fulton County election interference case.

    Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee’s chambers notified attorneys in the case by email late Monday that certain communications Terrence Bradley had with Wade are not protected by attorney-client privilege, according to numerous people who read the email. Bradley could be compelled to testify as soon as Tuesday afternoon. McAfee’s decision followed a closed-door meeting between the judge and Bradley on Monday that lasted nearly an hour and 20 minutes.

    “Imagine a world where global warming on Earth has meaningfully diminished. Fossil fuels are on the back burner. Affordable renewable energy sources run most of our activities. Oh, and there’s a cannon on the moon shooting lunar dust into space to help partially shield sunlight to Earth.

    That’s one eyebrow-raising approach for cooling our planet proposed by a group of astrophysicists in a study published Wednesday in PLOS Climate. The team used computer simulations to model various scenarios where massive quantities of dust (and we mean a lot of dust) in space can reduce the amount of Earthbound sunlight by 1 to 2 percent, or up to about six days of an obscured sun in a year. Their cheapest and most efficient idea is to launch dust from the moon, which would land into orbit between the sun and Earth and create a sunshade.

    Yes, the idea sounds like science fiction. Yes, it would require (a lot of) new engineering. Yes, there are more feasible climate mitigation tactics that can be employed now and in the near future. But the researchers view this rigorous physics experiment as a backup option that could aid — not replace — existing strategies to help humankind live on a more comfortable Earth.

    ‘We cannot as humanity let go of our primary goal* of reducing greenhouse gas emissions here on our planet. That’s got to be the first job,’ said Ben Bromley, the study’s lead author and an astrophysicist at University of Utah. ‘Our idea is one — and it’s a very, very intensive one — to contribute to climate change mitigation, if we need more time here at home.’”

  27. Georgia Bill Would Make Property Owners Liable for Injuries in ‘Gun-Free Zones’

    A Georgia lawmaker says private property owners should be able to prohibit firearms from their premises if they want, but believes that if they do so they should be held responsible for any harm that might befall a lawful gun owner who was disarmed by the policy.

    Under HB 1364, introduced by Rep. Martin Momtahan, property owners who forbid lawful concealed carry would assume responsibility for the safety of their customers, which means they would be liable for any injuries suffered if they are unable to protect themselves on the premises.

    “All we want to make sure is, if you’re in the store or anywhere and it has a ‘no gun’ sign, then that store needs to understand they have absolute custodial care of that person” who wants to carry a legal firearm but isn’t allowed, Momtahan said.

    That means the store becomes legally liable for the safety of the gun owner whose gun has been banished from the property.

    His bill HB 1364 says, “Any lawful weapons carrier who is prohibited from carrying… and who is injured… shall have a cause of action against the person, business or other entity that owns or legally controls such property.”

    Timothy Lytton of Georgia State University said establishments that banish firearms could face lawsuits from gun owners whose guns get banished.

    “Let’s say I’m a bar owner,” Lytton said in an interview. “Under the new law, if I prohibit them from bringing their firearms in and they’re attacked by another patron in the bar, then I’m absolutely liable for their injuries that result from that attack because I didn’t allow them to bring their weapon.”

    And? If I’m told that I can’t bring my concealed firearm into a particular location, then the property owner should be responsible for my personal safety. Lytton notes that the bill, at least in its current form, doesn’t exempt any property owners, including federal, state, or local government. It’s possible that the legislation will be amended in committee or on the House floor, but Momhatan says he’s fine with the bill as introduced, telling Atlanta TV station WXIA that, “we have a litigious society, where we settle these types of things in a court of law, rightfully where we should.”

    I have a feeling that Momhatan’s bill could face an uphill climb in the legislature, even with GOP supermajorities, because I’m sure there will be a lot of business interests who lobby against the proposal. Even if the Chamber of Commerce and other entities oppose HB 1364, Momhatan’s argument makes sense to me. We already know that the police aren’t responsible for our individual safety, which means that it’s ultimately up to us to protect ourselves. If business owners want to bar concealed carry from their property that’s their right, but why shouldn’t they assume responsibility for the safety of their customers and visitors if they choose to turn their establishment into a “gun-free zone”?

  28. Purdue Professor Says Research Shows Benefits of Armed Citizens

    I’m pleased to welcome Dr. J. Eric Dietz from Purdue University’s Homeland Security Institute back to Bearing Arms Cam & Co for today’s show, where the professor was able to highlight some of his latest research documenting the benefits of armed school staff and citizens serving as church security.

    Dietz and his team of researchers have looked at armed school staff before, reaching the conclusion that a combination of school resource officers and armed school staff can reduce casualties in an active shooter attack on campus by more than 70 percent. In his latest research, Dietz sought to examine one of the common arguments against armed school staff; that it increases the risk of accident or injury to students if there’s a negligent discharge.

    While Dietz acknowledges that accidents can and do happen, he also says his research shows the benefits of having armed school staff in place far outweigh the risks.

    “We looked at typical accident rates and were able to do a mixed time frame model of the schools and showed that the active shooter response enhancements that we’ve talked about already of 70 percent fewer casualties are maybe compared 20-to-1; the casualty rate to the accident rate. So the accident rate is very, very low.”

    Arguably the same is true for school shootings in general, but Dietz says that the potential for an accidental shooting by an armed school staffer might result in one or two injuries, while an active shooter who isn’t met with an armed response in a timely manner could kill far more people.

    Dietz also believes that arming school staff probably makes more sense in rural school districts where law enforcement could take 15 minutes or longer to arrive on the scene of an active shooter than urban school systems that have a much larger number of police officers on duty at any given time (including dedicated school resource officers), but agreed that having additional layers of security, including armed school staff, is critically important for school districts of all sizes. This research is incredibly valuable, and I hope that lawmakers in Colorado will take a look at his findings as they consider a bill that would scrap the ability for school districts to arm staffers; a policy that’s already in place in dozens of school districts around the state.

    In late January, several Venezuelan migrants attacked New York police officers after they were asked to quit blocking the sidewalk near Times Square. The migrants fought back against the police officers knocking them to the ground and kicking them. The officers suffered minor injuries.

    The violent migrants were then released back out on the street by New York officials without bail.

    Joe Biden wanted to send the criminal aliens back home to Venezuela.

    But deporting the criminal aliens back to Venezuela is no longer an easy task. Communist leader Nicolas Maduro recently announced his country is refusing to cooperate with deportation requests after Washington reimposed some of the economic sanctions it had previously lifted on Venezuela. The communist leader wants does not want them back.

  30. Majority of Americans WANT a border wall for the first time in history: More than 6 in 10 demand a barrier with Mexico and 80% say the migrant crisis is a ‘serious problem’

    A new poll shows that the majority of Americans now support a wall on the southern border, as the issue of illegal immigration intensifies ahead of the 2024 election.

    A Monmouth poll released Monday shows that 53 percent of Americans now support building a wall on the southern border with Mexico. Forty-six percent still oppose it.

    Four years ago, in a 2019 poll, only 42 percent of Americans supported the idea.

    The poll shows that 86 percent of Republicans support a border wall, but also 58 percent of Independents. Only 17 percent of Democrats support the idea.

    The poll also shows that 84 percent of voters see illegal immigration as a very serious or somewhat serious issue, a number that has grown significantly since 2019.

    Nathan Wade “made the decisions to hire or fire” employees in Fulton County District Attorney’s Office following Fulton County prosecutor Fani Willis’ election victory in November 2020, multiple sources familiar with the Wade and Willis relationship exclusively told Breitbart News.

    The revelation of Wade’s previously unreported position as the former personnel decision-maker for the District Attorney’s Office raises ethical and conflict of interest concerns. It also raises questions about whether Wade and Willis have been forthright about the timeline of their affair.

    “Wade is a prosecutor on the Trump case and he selected the office employees,” a source told Breitbart News.

    Wade led a transition team of ten to twelve people who interviewed and evaluated current employees to remain in Willis’ newly won office just weeks after she won the election in November, said the sources, who wished to remain anonymous for fear of retribution due to their direct knowledge of the environment inside the District Attorney’s Office, which they characterized as “corrupt.”

    Wade, a second source told Breitbart News, was in charge of determining who of the 250 office employees would remain with Willis. Sources described one-on-one interviews behind closed doors with Willis and Wade, who was “too invested to be just a friend” of Willis to hold such a powerful position.

    Wade and Willis claim their relationship started in 2022 after Willis launched the probe into former President Donald Trump. But sources say Wade and Willis “obviously” had an ongoing romantic relationship at the time Willis won the election. “There was just something so weird going on,” one source said.

      Nathan Wade’s former law partner and divorce lawyer, Terrence Bradley, was back on the stand on Tuesday after Judge McAfee said he is not protected by attorney-client privilege, and his testimony gives more evidence that Fani Willis and Nathan Wade lied on the stand about their relationship.

      According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis “financially benefited” from a romantic relationship with top Trump prosecutor Nathan Wade.

      Earlier this month, Fani Willis and Nathan Wade were subpoenaed to testify at an evidentiary hearing thanks to a lawsuit filed by Trump’s RICO co-defendant Michael Roman.

      Judge Scott McAfee said Fani Willis may be disqualified from Trump’s RICO case over her improper relationship with top Nathan Wade.

      Both Willis and Wade were on the same page when they testified earlier this month that they met at Willis’s home no more than ten times and started a relationship AFTER he was appointed to lead the Trump election interference case. However, The Gateway Pundit reported on Saturday that the attorneys for Trump and Roman geo-tracked Nathan Wade and found that Wade likely made at least 35 visits to Fani’s home BEFORE he was appointed to lead the case. They also discovered that the two exchanged over 2,000 voice calls and almost 12,000 text messages in the 11 months of January to November 2021 before Nathan Wade was hired.

      Michael Roman’s lawyer, Ashleigh Merchant, questioned a squirming and sweating Bradley for an hour about his knowledge of his long-time friend, former law partner, and former client, Nathan Wade’s relationship with Fani Willis. She confronted him on text messages that he apparently sent to Merchant, where he admitted that Wade started dating Willis before she hired him!

  32. In Big Victory Against Lawfare, DC Court Of Appeals Smacks Down Jeff Clark Subpoena

    The D.C. Bar’s case against Jeff Clark is part of a widespread and well-funded effort by Democrats to make it illegal to be a Republican lawyer.

    Trump-era Department of Justice official Jeffrey Clark won a big victory against Democrat lawfare on Monday when the D.C. Court of Appeals ruled he did not have to comply with a subpoena issued by the D.C. Bar’s Office of Disciplinary Counsel.

    The appeals court denied the D.C. Bar’s attempt to enforce its subpoena against Clark because it “infringes on Mr. Clark’s Fifth Amendment right not to be compelled to be a witness against himself.” The court did not release a full opinion but promised to do so in the future.

    The victory for Clark serves as a shocking blow to Democrats, who have tried to disbar more than 100 attorneys who agreed to work on election integrity cases following the 2020 presidential election. They’ve expanded that lawfare to attorneys across the nation who defend conservatives, including half of Republican attorneys general.

    The D.C. Bar’s Disciplinary Counsel Hamilton P. Fox III initially charged the former head of the Department of Justice’s environment division in July 2022 with “attempted dishonesty” and “attempted serious interference with the administration of justice.”

    Fox tried to subpoena Clark in 2021, shortly after the sham January 6 Committee failed to, but that demand was rendered effectively moot once he filed charges. Shortly after he announced the charges against Clark, Fox issued another subpoena in October 2022 demanding access to the former Trump official’s documents.

    Among the requested materials was information about his draft letter to Georgia officials noting the DOJ “identified significant concerns that may have impacted the outcome of the [2020] election in multiple States, including the State of Georgia.” Clark is one of the 19 “co-conspirator” targets in Democrats’ wide-ranging election indictment in Fulton County.

    Clark once again resisted the Fox subpoena because it would violate his executive, law enforcement, deliberative process, and attorney-client privileges, as well as deprive him of his Fifth Amendment rights.

    In mid-2023, the D.C. Bar began pushing for court-ordered enforcement of the subpoena, but it wasn’t until December that the D.C. Court of Appeals demanded Clark’s compliance. Clark quickly filed a motion to reconsider and requested a hearing. During oral arguments to the three-judge panel on Friday, Clark’s legal team argued the D.C. Bar’s demands would violate Clark’s Fifth Amendment rights. The court agreed.

    Clark’s legal team previously established that the D.C. Bar “has attempted to exercise disciplinary authority over a high-ranking, Senate-confirmed federal government official for actions taken in the course of his duty.”

    The D.C. Bar’s case against Clark is part of a widespread and well-funded effort by Democrats to make it illegal to be a Republican lawyer. Several Trump-affiliated lawyers, including John Eastman and Rudy Giuliani, have faced punishment for their roles in election cases. That is why Clark’s victory is so significant.

    Clark will head to trial on March 26.

  33. Bus driver transporting 19 ‘undocumented non-citizens’ in northern Michigan presents Mexican voter ID to sheriff’s deputies
    Erratic driving prompts traffic stop of blacked-out bus

    Details are sketchy concerning a busload of 19 illegal immigrants stopped by deputies with the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office this past Friday.

    What is known is the driver was unable to produce a U.S. Driver’s license and presented deputies with a Mexican voter registration card. The bus was pulled over for swerving over the center line, GTCS Capt. Brandon Brinks told The Midwesterner.

    Brinks added that the deputies issued the bus driver a citation before contacting U.S. Border Patrol due to the language barrier.

    According to UpNorthLive, the bus was stopped on the side of the road for approximately five hours.

    “On Friday, U.S. Border Patrol was contacted by the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s office to assist after a bus transporting 19 undocumented non-citizens was pulled over by deputies for erratic driving,” according to an email received by The Midwesterner from a U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesperson.

    “Subsequently, the 19 undocumented non-citizens were transported to the Sault Ste. Marie Border Patrol Station where they were processed and served a Notice To Appear. The individuals have been placed in immigration removal proceedings,” the spokesperson added, noting that additional information cannot be released due to the ongoing investigation.

    Speaking to Brexit leader Nigel Farage — who lifted the lid on the debanking practices by British banks after publicly revealing his own accounts were shut down last year — the honorary secretary of the Battle of Britain Memorial charity, Group Captain Patrick Tootal accused Barclays Bank of wrongfully shutting down their account, resulting in the loss of £8,000 in donations.

    A couple of weeks ago Trump’s RICO co-defendant Michael Roman filed an explosive supplemental reply to Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and accused her of lying to the court about her affair with the top Trump prosecutor she appointed.

    Nathan Wade’s divorce lawyer Terrence Bradley earlier this month was called to the stand and tried to invoke attorney-client privilege during an evidentiary hearing on misconduct, however, he could not recall when he became Wade’s lawyer.

    Judge McAfee ultimately determined Bradley’s communications with Nathan Wade were not protected under attorney-client privilege.

    Bradley sweat bullets on the witness stand as he was grilled about Nathan Wade’s romantic relationship with Fani Willis.

    Bradley would not reveal exactly when Nathan Wade told him he was dating Fani Willis.

    Recall that Bradley previously suggested he had knowledge that the Fani-Wade love affair began before 2022. Now all of a sudden he can’t recall anything.

    Interesting.

    “I recall him stating that at some point they were dating. I can’t tell you what date that was,” Bradley said asserting his conversation with Wade was in confidence.

      Terrence Bradley will take the stand again today in a third hearing to disqualify Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis from prosecuting the sham election interference case against President Trump after she was accused of misusing funds and having an inappropriate relationship with lead prosecutor Nathan Wade.

    Three men were arrested this past weekend in St. Louis City after after a woman was found bound by ropes and bleeding from the head. The incident took place at Mount of Olives Ministry on Minnesota Avenue in the city.

    The woman said she was held captive and was beaten by the men at the church. Inside the room police found a bottle of water and a bucket that had been used as a toilet.

    According to reports when police arrived at the scene they found women described as “angels” held in a room inside the premises. When police lifted their veils the women would start screaming.

    A bizarre kidnapping case that allegedly occurred this past weekend in south St. Louis got a lot stranger this afternoon at a bond hearing for one of the defendants.

    Over the weekend, police were called to Minnesota Avenue in the Patch neighborhood after a woman was found bound by ropes and bleeding from the head. She later told police she had been confined against her will in a room at the nearby Mount of Olives Ministry church. Three men were charged with felony kidnapping and assault.

    This afternoon, at a bond hearing for one of those men, 28-year-old Grace Kipendo, Assistant Circuit Attorney Chris Faerber described cult-like conditions at Mount of Olives Ministry.

    Faerebr said in court he’d be reaching out to federal prosecutors regarding the case.

    He said that officers at the scene reported that members of the church referred to women as “angels” and there was a “white room” where there were women referred to as “good angels” and wore white veils.

    “Officers tried to lift their veils to check on their well-being and the women started screaming,” Faerber told Judge Heather Hays, in arguing that Kipendo should remain in the City Justice Center without bond.

    Faerber quoted one of the officers at the scene who said, “If I hadn’t seen this with my own eyes, I wouldn’t have believed it.”

    According to the police probable cause statement, the victim said that she was kept locked in a room where she was beaten and given only water. After police arrived, the victim led officers to a different room, one that wasn’t the “white room,” which had had its door knob broken off and, inside, a bucket being used as a makeshift toilet.

    Police were called because the victim was “crying out to passersby who were not members of the church,” according to Faerber.

    On February 20th, Parents Defending Education (PDE) filed a federal civil rights complaint against the largest school district in Denver, Colorado, for allegedly requiring staff to participate in a “Black Excellence” pledge.

    The complaint cites an internal memo referencing the pledge and alleges the initiative is backed by the district’s superintendent, school board, and senior leadership.

    According to the complaint, the pledge reads in part, “all educators need to understand the prevalence and deep harm whiteness brings to students,” and promises “conversations about racism and white supremacy culture.”

    The pledge suggests teachers “dismantle the system that allows certain students to excel and others to perish.”

  38. Ginsburg Opinion Could Aid Trump in N.Y. Fraud Case

    Former President Donald Trump’s appeal of the $454 million civil fraud judgment against him in New York could be helped by an opinion written by the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

    Ginsburg in February 2019 wrote the majority opinion in Timbs v. Indiana, in which the high court voted 9-0 to find that the Eighth Amendment is applicable to the states.

    The justices ruled against Indiana, which was seeking to confiscate defendant Tyson Timbs’ $42,000 Land Rover, for assessing a fine that was “grossly disproportionate” to the gravity of the offense.

    The Land Rover’s value was more than four times the maximum $10,000 fine that Timbs was liable for in a criminal case that involved controlled substances and conspiracy to commit theft, Independent Journal Review reported.

    “The Eighth Amendment’s Excessive Fines Clause is an incorporated protection applicable to the States under the Fourteenth Amendment’s Due Process Clause,” the justices found.

    “The prohibition embodied in the Excessive Fines Clause carries forward protections found in sources from Magna Carta to the English Bill of Rights to state constitutions from the colonial era to the present day,” Ginsburg argued in the case. “Protection against excessive fines has been a constant shield throughout Anglo-American history for good reason: Such fines undermine other liberties.”

    Ginsburg added that such fines “can be used, e.g., to retaliate against or chill the speech of political enemies.”

    Trump has appealed the New York civil fraud judgment, challenging Judge Arthur Engoron’s finding that the former president lied about his wealth as he grew the real estate empire that launched him to stardom and the presidency.

    Trump’s lawyers filed a notice of appeal Monday asking the state’s mid-level appeals court to overturn Engoron’s Feb. 16 verdict in New York Attorney General Letitia James’ lawsuit.

    The attorneys wrote that they’re asking the appeals court to decide if Engoron “committed errors of law and/or fact” and whether he abused his discretion and/or his jurisdiction.

    Trump, who has denied all wrongdoing, owes $355 million in fines and about $100 million in accrued interest that continues to grow.

    Ginsburg told the The New York Times in July 2016: “I can’t imagine what this place would be — I can’t imagine what the country would be — with Donald Trump as our president.”

    “For the country, it could be four years. For the court, it could be — I don’t even want to contemplate that,” she said.

    But deporting the criminal aliens back to Venezuela is no longer an easy task.     Texas has one of the highest rates of congenital syphilis in the country

    Syphilis is on the rise in Texas and nationally, causing serious medical complications, especially for newborn babies who contract the disease during pregnancy.
    Assistant Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine visited Parkland Hospital, Dallas County’s public hospital, Thursday to discuss the rise of syphilis and what can be done to prevent its spread.
    Though often thought to be a disease of the past, syphilis rates have grown consistently in the last decade. Between 2018 and 2022, syphilis cases jumped nearly 80% nationwide, while cases of congenital syphilis — or babies born with syphilis — nearly tripled, climbing 183%, according to recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data.
    Texas saw 15.5 cases of syphilis per 100,000 people in 2022, putting it below the national average of 17.7. For congenital syphilis, Texas ranked fourth highest among reporting states, with nearly 247 cases per 100,000 live births, more than double the national average.
