No the coming depression isn’t just the result of China, the entire world has sprinted into the planned economy, something that has never worked. The entire world is is deep economic trouble, the Chinese economic collapse is probably what will trigger the depression and the fact that the governments of the world will do the wrong things to try and ease/end the depression is going to deepen it and cause it to lase many years.
Debt and Inflation Are Not Equal to Growth: Biden’s Illusion of a Good Economy

The White House brags that Americans are prospering, yet only one in seven Americans report feeling better off.
Biden claims economic success with the 3.3% GDP growth, but the number is inflated by government deficits and debt, caused by Biden’s spending on social programs, including money given to illegal aliens.
Under Joe Biden, the U.S. debt has reached a record level of $34 trillion, which is 124% of GDP. Interest on the national debt is crippling the economy. In 2023, the US government had to pay net interest costs of $659 billion. Moreover, with Biden continuing to run a deficit and give away money, both the debt and interest payments will continue to rise.
As the government prints and borrows money, inflation rises. The White House claims to have reduced inflation because it is now lower than its Biden-peak of 9%. However, inflation hasn’t disappeared.
The White House’s assertions about inflation reduction are generally supported by cherry-picked examples, such as gas prices decreasing to only 50% higher than before Biden took office.
However, general price levels for food and other necessities remain ridiculously high, 18% to 24% higher than they were in 2019. In January, the White House touted the fact that inflation was lower than a year earlier, which was true.
However, it had risen compared to December, suggesting that the inflation issue will not be resolved soon.

The RCMP announced on Friday, they are laying additional charges against a youth who was charged with terrorism in late December. He was charged with conspiracy to commit murder, allegedly plotting an attack on the Jewish community.
They announced they have arrested a co-conspirator. He has been charged with trying to acquire a prohibited firearm to facilitate terrorist activity.

Sterling, Virginia – A massive house explosion occurred at a house just 30 miles outside of DC leaving one firefighter dead and 11 others injured.
A firefighter radioed a mayday call for the fire in the 300 block of Silver Ridge Drive in Sterling, Virginia saying a firefighter was “trapped by debris.”
Loudoun Now reported the victims—firefighters and civilians—have been transported to area hospitals. Two victim were transported to the Burn Center at Medstar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC—one by AirCare helicopter.

In his latest move to seize the moral high ground, President Joe Biden on Wednesday issued an order to halt the deportation of Palestinians from the U.S. for 18 months.
The order was given on the premise of deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip and West Bank as a result of Israel’s military offensive against Hamas following the group’s Oct. 7 terrorist attack on the Jewish State.
It comes as Democrats and pro-Palestinian groups pressure the Biden administration to turn on Israel and stop providing it with weapons and other military assistance.
Maybe someone should remind Old Joe that Israel didn’t start the war.
The White House “Memorandum on the Deferred Enforced Departure for Certain Palestinians” provides the grounds for the temporary halt on deportations. Biden also issued a “deferred enforced departure” for residents of Hong Kong in 2021, according to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

On Friday that Judge Arthur Engoron released a 92-page verdict, ordering President Donald Trump to pay a more than $355 million fine and barred Trump “from serving as an officer or director of any New York corporation or other legal entity in New York for a period of three years.”
President Trump’s children, Eric Trump and Donald Jr., were ordered to pay $4,013,024 each, and Trump Org. CFO Allen Weisselberg was ordered to pay $1 million.

Joe Biden Is America’s Biggest National Security Threat

At the end of President Donald Trump’s administration, there was peace abroad and prosperity at home. After three years of President Joe Biden, Americans no longer enjoy economic prosperity, but face inflation and high interest rates. Also, there are major wars raging in Ukraine and in Gaza, while additional wars may be started by the brutal dictators in China and Venezuela.
To make matters worse, Iran is on the threshold of obtaining nuclear weapons and the North Korean dictator is threatening to launch a military invasion against his neighbors.
In Jordan, three American military service members were killed, and dozens were wounded in a drone attack launched by Iranian proxies. Overall, since the Hamas terrorist attack against Israel on October 7, 2023, American military personnel and facilities have been attacked 166 times by drone, missiles or rockets launched by Iranian funded militias.
During the same period, the Houthis, Yemeni terrorists backed by Iran, have attacked ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden at least 36 times. The Houthis claim their involvement is to show “solidarity with Palestinians in the war between Israel and Hamas.”
While the Biden administration has militarily responded to some of these attacks by striking facilities linked to Iranian proxies in Iraq, Syria, and Yemen, it will not deter these terrorists. The best way to prevent future attacks is to target Iran economically or militarily, sending a message to the world’s largest benefactor of terrorism.
This course of action has been dismissed by the Biden administration, which has eased economic sanctions on Iran, reducing the pressure that was exerted by President Trump. During his presidency, Iran was contained and so were their terrorist proxies.
Unfortunately, the Biden administration has allowed Iran to become emboldened and enriched. As a result, additional resources have been provided to terror groups such as Hamas. Without Iran’s funding, Hamas would have been unable to launch their attack against Israel.
While Trump was President, instead of military conflict and terrorism in the region, there were four significant peace agreements between Arab nations and Israel. These noteworthy pacts were known as the Abraham Accords and marked a major accomplishment for President Trump.
Regrettably, the Abraham Accords are a distant memory today as the region is engulfed in chaos, which has been caused by Biden’s feckless domestic and foreign policies. His embarrassing withdrawal from Afghanistan resulted in the death of thirteen military service members, but also encouraged Russian President Vladimir Putin to invade Ukraine. In contrast, Putin did not invade any countries while Trump was President.
Trump believes in peace through strength, the philosophy shared by President Ronald Reagan. Both Presidents restored our military strength; however, Biden has weakened our military by his appointment of “woke” leaders who have pursued policies that target “white rage” and promote “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.”
These policies led to a massive decline in recruitment in all military branches. Thus, at a time of heightened threat, the United States is ill-equipped to deal with these challenges due to misguided Biden policies.
Our foremost threat, communist China, has been treated with kid gloves by Biden, leading many to believe he is compromised in his dealings with this adversary. In response to the Chinese sending a spy balloon over our country, Biden did nothing.
Currently, China is using our open border to send large numbers of military age men into our country. This would not be happening if Biden had retained Trump’s strong border policies.
Unfortunately, Biden stopped construction of the border wall and encouraged migrants from around the world to enter the United States. Millions of undocumented migrants accepted Biden’s offer and have flooded our country. Among this illegal influx are an untold number of criminals and terrorists.
It is widely suspected that terrorist sleeper cells have been established in the last three years as President Biden has allowed an open border to threaten the lives of every American. This dangerous threat to our nation may not be fully understood by Biden. As the nation witnessed last week, Biden is mentally incompetent.
In a primetime news conference, he mixed up the nations of Egypt and Mexico. Earlier in the week, he forgot the name of the Hamas terrorists and mistakenly believed he met with the late Presidents of France and Germany.
The damning Special Counsel report on his mishandling of classified documents should have resulted in criminal charges. Instead, the Special Counsel said that Biden was too mentally frail to withstand a trial and that jurors would feel sympathy for an elderly man.
In his meetings with Biden, the Special Counsel noted Biden forgot when his son died and when he served as Vice President. He characterized Biden’s answers to questions as “painfully slow.”
According to a recent NBC News poll, 76% of Americans are concerned about Biden’s age. They are correct, Biden is mentally incompetent and should be removed as President via the 25th Amendment or impeachment. At the very least, every congressional Republican should demand Biden submit to a mental competency test.
Of course, he will refuse the test because he will fail. Due to his condition, he is not conducting many news conferences or public events. Some supporters, such as commentator Van Jones, are recommending that he stay hidden during the upcoming campaign.
His policies and his mental incompetence make Joe Biden America’s biggest national security threat. In his deteriorated mental state, he cannot serve as Commander-in-Chief or have access to our nuclear codes.
For example, his provocative stance against the Russians may lead to a nuclear conflict, resulting in world annihilation. Is Biden staunchly supporting Ukraine because he is compromised? He did force a Ukrainian prosecutor, who was investigating his son’s corrupt dealings, to be fired.
Biden’s corruption will eventually be exposed. In the meantime, if he continues as President, Americans are in extreme danger. Congressional Democrats must join Republicans and demand Biden’s resignation. If not, impeachment, or the 25th Amendment procedure, must commence immediately.

Crooked FBI Special Agent Who Investigated Trump-Russia Hoax Faces Additional Prison Time — Sentenced to Over 2 Years for Concealing Payment from Albanian Businessman

Charles F. McGonigal, a former high-ranking FBI official who once played a pivotal role in the controversial Trump-Russia collusion investigation, was sentenced on Friday to an additional 28 months in federal prison.
McGonigal, 55, faced the judicial consequences for failing to disclose a substantial sum of $225,000 he received from an Albanian businessman connected to the Albanian government.
The sentencing was made public by U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves, alongside FBI Assistant Directors Donald Alway of the Los Angeles Field Office and David Sundberg of the Washington Field Office.
U.S. District Court Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly handed down the sentence, which also includes a three-year term of supervised release after McGonigal’s imprisonment.
McGonigal was previously the Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s New York Field Office, a role in which he was responsible for, among other duties, counterintelligence investigations.
In September, McGonigal admitted that he received at least $225,000 in cash from a person with whom he also traveled internationally, during which they met with foreign citizens. This person later became an informant for the FBI in a criminal case concerning foreign political lobbying, a case over which McGonigal had supervisory authority.
The court recognized that his actions significantly obstructed the administration of justice.

Late last year, Congress extended Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) and, in doing so, secured “the nation’s warrantless surveillance powers” until April 2024. With that month fast approaching, House Republicans have unveiled a new package to reauthorize those same powers, within limits.

As the Hill reports, the new package “focus[es] on more reforms at the FBI to address misuse of the powerful spy tool,” but the deal does not include requirements for a warrant, which is “deemed a red line for the intelligence community but nonetheless a top priority for privacy advocates in Congress.”
The new measure “would severely limit the number of FBI personnel who can query the database, forcing more oversight from some 550 supervisors or lawyers before agents can tap into the database to gain information on Americans.” The bill aims to “protect members of Congress or other high-profile officials” by requiring consent before a “defensive briefing.”
The FBI will be required to “notify a member of Congress, with some limitation, if they have been queried in the 702 database.” As members of Congress and the public may have noticed, the FBI, tasked with counterintelligence, has become a law unto itself.
Last August, an FBI squad gunned down Craig Robertson, a 75-year-old woodworker, for things he had allegedly posted online. The killing was reportedly under review by the FBI’s Inspection Division, but as of this writing there has been no investigation by Congress. As members may have noted, the FBI now operates along partisan lines.
As Newsweek headlined last Oct. 4, “Donald Trump Followers Targeted by FBI as 2024 Election Nears.” According to the report, the FBI has “quietly created a new category of extremists that it seeks to track and counter: Donald Trump’s army of MAGA followers.”
A “senior FBI official” told Newsweek: “We cannot and do not investigate ideology. We focus on individuals who commit or intend to commit violence or criminal activity that constitutes a federal crime or poses a threat to national security.” The people have cause to wonder.
The FBI failed to stop the 1993 bomb attack on the World Trade Center, the massive terrorist attack of Sept. 11, 2001, the terrorist mass murders at Fort Hood in 2009, the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013, and terrorist mass murders in San Bernardino in 2015 and Orlando in 2016, with 49 dead. On the other hand, the FBI surveilled and harassed such dangerous criminals as singer Aretha Franklin and actress Jean Seberg.
While assessing the FBI, members of Congress might read Neutering the CIA: Why US Intelligence versus Trump Has Long-Term Consequences. Former CIA analyst John A. Gentry charts a woke agency now deployed against “another serious candidacy by Trump,” with units ready for reactivation “if even a traditional Republican again becomes president.” This from an agency tasked with providing intelligence on foreign adversaries.
As Gentry notes, the entire “Intelligence Community” failed to prevent the attack of Sept. 11, 2001, and for this failure was rewarded with bigger budgets. With the secretive IC now active in domestic politics, massive failures become more likely, with many innocent lives at stake. The CIA, like the FBI, has become a law unto itself.
The real question for federal lawmakers is whether the CIA and FBI are even reformable, and how the people’s representatives might hold them accountable. Instead they seek to prolong surveillance measures that, as critics rightly contend, have no place in a free and democratic society.
Members of Congress get special protections, but so far there’s no word about safeguards against warrantless surveillance for pro-life activists, protesting parents, and devout Catholics — all regarded as dangerous extremists by the current FBI. Journalists, especially those who are critical of the bureau, also have cause for concern. They can take it as a sign that Big Brother is watching, as George Orwell wrote in 1984 — or, in the style of Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca, here’s still looking at you, kid.

The New York judge’s non-legal, hyper-partisan ruling will only make Trump stronger

One of the tricks of knowing when a leftist judge is pulling a fast one is if the decision is really, really long. Doing this, as W.S. Gilbert would have said, is intended to “lend an air of verisimilitude to an otherwise unconvincing narrative.” In modern English: it hides the dishonesty. The fact that Judge Arthur Engoron, who repeatedly showed his partisan stripes, needed 92 pages to impose an almost $400 million hit-job judgment against Trump is just another phase in the Democrat establishment’s war against America. This won’t harm Trump. It will only make him greater.
Hiding behind the 92 pages of legal-sounding garbage are some simple facts. As you recall, New York Attorney General Letitia James ran on a single platform: I will destroy Trump. She then filed a civil suit against him for fraud, alleging that he lied to banks about the value of his assets to obtain loans. The suit ignored two pertinent points:
None of the banks suffered damages. Indeed, all of them were fully repaid in a timely manner, and they were happy to do business with Trump again.
When a corporation comes to a bank seeking a large loan and offering its own valuation of its assets, the bank’s due diligence requires it to confirm those valuations. At this business scale, banks never take the borrower’s valuations without double-checking. When you’re at Trump’s level, you really can’t lie for a loan.
Once in court, there were some other problems. For example, Judge Engoron ruled that the alleged lie at the core of Trump’s efforts to obtain funds fraudulently was his claim about Mar-a-Lago’s worth. According to Engoron, in a region in which property values routinely exceed $100 million, Mar-a-Lago was worth only $18 million. (In fact, even in that region, Mar-a-Lago is special because it’s ginormous and has two ocean fronts—one on the east and one on the west.) That was a ruling driven either by profound ignorance or partisan fraud.

The Looming Threat of Directed Energy Weapons

Five players and three fans were ejected from the explosive Thursday night game between Southern Miss and Arkansas State following a massive brawl that erupted during the first half.
The chaotic scene, which involved players and coaches being tackled to the ground and multiple punches thrown, caused a significant 23-minute delay in the second quarter as officials scrambled to identify and eject those involved.

Harvard law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz tore into Letitia James during a recent appearance on the Sean Hannity show over her prosecution of Trump, suggesting that she should be brought before the bar.
He compared what was done to Trump to the Stalin-era idea of ‘show me the man, I’ll find you the crime.’
He also said that the ruling is going to have a negative impact on who decides to run for office if they know that this sort of thing can be done to them.

Obscene award against Trump is testing the New York legal system’s integrity

In laying the foundation for his sweeping decision against former President Donald Trump, Judge Arthur Engoron observed that “this is a venial sin, not a mortal sin.” Yet, at $355 million, one would think that Engoron had found Trump to be the source of Original Sin.
The judgment against Trump (and his family and associates) was met with a level of unrestrained celebration by many in New York that bordered on the indecent. Attorney General Letitia James declared not only that Trump would be barred from doing business in New York for three years, but that the damages would come to roughly $460 million once interest was included.
That makes the damages against Trump greater than the gross national product of some countries, including Micronesia. Yet the court admitted that not a single dollar was lost by the banks from these dealings. Indeed, witnesses testified that they wanted to do more business with Trump, who was described as a “whale” client with high yield business opportunities.
Undervaluing and overvaluing property is a longstanding practice in New York real estate. The forms submitted by the Trump organization cautioned the banks to do their own estimates and the loans were paid in full and on time. Yet, the New York law used by James is a curiosity because it does not actually require a victim. Indeed, everyone can make ample profits and still allow for an investigation into “repeated fraudulent or illegal acts.”
Having campaigned on bagging Trump on any basis, James turned the law into a virtual license to hunt him down along with his family and his associates.
Engoron proved the perfect judge for the case. The opinion itself seems almost cathartic for the jurist who struggled with Trump inside and outside of court. In the judgment, Engoron fulfilled Oscar Wilde’s rule that the only way to be rid of temptation is to yield to it. He ordered everything short of throwing Trump into a wood chipper.
The size of the damages is grotesque and should shock the conscience of any judge on appeal. Even if the Democrat-appointed judges on the New York Court of Appeals were to ignore the obvious inequity and unfairness, the United States Supreme Court could intervene.
State courts tend to get a significant amount of deference in the interpretation of their own laws. After all, if New York wants to turn Wall Street into a remake of “The Hunger Games,” it has only itself to blame as other businesses flee the state.
The impact on New York business is likely to be dire. New York is already viewed as a hostile business environment, with the top end of its tax base literally heading south as taxes and crime rises. This draconian award is only going to deepen concerns over the arbitrary application of the law by figures like James, who previously sought to disband the National Rifle Association. (She has shown less interest in cracking down on liberal organizations like Black Lives Matter or the National Action Network of Al Sharpton despite their own major financial scandals.)
As James gleefully uses this law to break up a major New York corporation, it is hard to imagine many businesses rushing to the Big Apple. This follows Democratic politicians such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.) campaigning against Amazon seeking to open new facilities in the city. After this week, drawing new businesses to the city is going to be about as easy as selling country estates during the French Revolution.
The one hope for New York businesses may be the U.S. Supreme Court. Despite the deference afforded to the states and their courts, the court has occasionally intervened to block excessive damage awards.
For example, in 1996, the justices limited state-awards of punitive damages under the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. In that case, BMW was found to have repainted luxury cars damaged in transit without telling buyers.
An Alabama jury awarded $4,000 in compensatory damages for the loss of value in having a factory paint job, but then added $4 million in punitive damages. Even when the Alabama Supreme Court reduced that to $2 million, the U.S. Supreme Court still found it excessive. Even liberals on the Court such as John Paul Stevens and Stephen Breyer agreed that such “grossly excessive” awards raise a “basic unfairness of depriving citizens of life, liberty, or property, through the application of arbitrary coercion.”
The court may find almost half a billion dollars in damages without a single lost dollar from a victim to be a tad excessive.
That prospect will not dampen the thrill-kill environment in New York this week. In electing openly partisan prosecutors such as James and District Attorney Alvin Bragg, voters have shown a preference for political prosecutions and investigations.
In “Bonfire of the Vanities,” Tom Wolfe wrote about Sherman McCoy, a successful businessman who had achieved the status of one of the “masters of the universe” in New York. In the prosecution of McCoy for a hit-and-run, Wolfe described a city and legal system devouring itself in the politics of class and race. The book details a businessman’s fall from a great height — a fall that delighted New Yorkers.
It is doubtful Trump will end up as the same solitary figure wearing worn-out clothes before the Bronx County Criminal Court clutching a binder of legal papers. But you do not have to feel sorry or even sympathetic for Trump to see this award as obscene. The appeal will test the New York legal system to see if other judges can do what Judge Engoron found so difficult: set aside their feelings about Trump.
New York is one of our oldest and most distinguished bars. It has long resisted those who sought to use the law to pursue political opponents and unpopular figures. It will now be tested to see if those values transcend even Trump.

Video: Iran Launches Ballistic Missile From the Deck of a Container Ship
The Iranian military claims to have launched a large ballistic missile from a militarized container ship, giving it a mobile platform with which to launch attacks.
Iran’s Tasnim news agency published a video of the launch and described the munition as a “long range” ballistic missile. The device deployed from a 40-foot container, giving analysts a sense of its maximum length. Open-source intelligence analysts have identified it as a Dezful medium-range ballistic missile, which has a claimed range of about 600 miles at a speed of Mach 7.
According to Tasnim, the missile successfully hit a target site on a range in the Iranian central desert.
“Nowhere is safe for those powers who seek to threaten our security,” IRGC commander Hossein Salami said in a statement.
The launch vessel is likely the Shahid Mahdavi, a former Panamax container ship repainted in haze gray and converted to military use in 2023. It is operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a separate branch of the Iranian military and a U.S.-designated terrorist group.

Eric Trump, son of President Donald Trump, voiced his indignation following the outcome of a sham fraud trial in New York City led by Soros-funded Attorney General Letitia James.
The Trump family and their business empire faced a significant legal blow when Judge Arthur Engoron handed down a hefty fine and imposed restrictions on their operations in New York, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.
In a 92-page ruling issued on Friday, Judge Engoron ordered the Trump Organization to pay a fine exceeding $355 million. Additionally, the ruling prohibits former President Trump from serving as an officer or director of any New York corporation or legal entity for three years.
The judgment also mandates that Eric Trump and his brother, Donald Trump Jr., are to each pay fines amounting to $4 million. Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg was fined $1 million.
Engoron claimed Trump and each of the defendants, including Eric Trump, “participated in aiding and abetting the conspiracy to commit insurance fraud by their individual acts in falsifying business records and valuations, causing materially fraudulent SFCs to be intentionally submitted to insurance companies.”
“[W]here, as here, there is a claim based on fraudulent activity, disgorgement may be available as an equitable remedy, notwithstanding the absence of loss to individuals or independent claims for restitution. Disgorgement is distinct from the remedy of restitution because it focuses on the gain to the wrongdoer as opposed to the loss to the victim.”
“Thus, disgorgement aims to deter wrongdoing by preventing the wrongdoer from retaining ill-gotten gains from fraudulent conduct. Accordingly, the remedy of disgorgement does not require a showing or allegation of direct losses to consumers or the public; the source of the ill-gotten gains is “immaterial,” Engoron wrote in the filing reviewed by The Gateway Pundit.

The political narrative of the US left, when it comes to race, are one of the most ‘sacred cows’ of the western world. Hardly anyone dares to counter its assumptions, that are treated like eternal truths.
In comes a black Harvard professor leading a study on race and police brutality. He fully expects the results to match the ‘approved’ party line, showing that Houston police shootings have a clear and unmistakable racial bias.
When the results show nothing of the kind, the professor has to decide whether he is a scholar or a militant.
Harvard Economics Professor Roland Fryer took the hard road, published his study, and ‘all hell broke loose’. He had to resort to armed security after an avalanche of threats.
In an interview with Bari Weiss, he talked about the terrible experience that took place back in 2016.

“The study found that police were more than twice as likely to manhandle, beat or use some other kind of nonfatal force against blacks and Hispanics than against people of other races. However, the data also determined that officers were 23.8 percent less likely to shoot at blacks and 8.5 percent less likely to shoot at Hispanics than they were to shoot at whites.
When Fryer claimed the data showed ‘no racial differences in officer-involved shootings’, he said, ‘all hell broke loose’, and his life was upended.”

14 people sentenced for storming OPCW building in The Hague

14 people were sentenced on Friday for their involvement in the storming of the office of the International Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague in December 2021.
Ten suspects received a three-month prison sentence for entering the building. Four others had hit an OPCW security guard and punched and pushed officers, the court found. They have to spend another month in prison. 20 other suspects have been acquitted because it was not clear whether they were in the building or only on the grounds outside.
The protesters entered the OPCW building during a demonstration by the Council of Communities from Kurdistan. They were demonstrating against the alleged use of chemical weapons by Turkey in Kurdish villages.
During the protest, two ladders were attached to a meter-high fence surrounding the building. This allowed the demonstrators to enter the protected area. The demonstrators then managed to get into the building through a revolving door that had been forced open. Once inside, they broke through other secured doors. Around 100 employees locked themselves in their offices.
There’s hard evidence that such weapons were used.

Police officers in The Hague used tear gas in an attempt to quell rioting after a brawl broke out between two groups of Eritreans at the Opera conference hall on Fruitweg. A police car was also set on fire near the scene on Saturday evening. It is was not immediately known whether there were any injuries.
It is not yet known what caused the confrontation. Rioters pelted the police with large rocks, bicycles and traffic signs. According to Omroep West, bicycles, branches and fireworks were also thrown.
The windows of the conference center were smashed. The rioters were also trying to break inside, according to a reporter at the scene. The police were trying to protect the building. The fire brigade was dispatched to the scene, but left the area.
Two police vehicles were set on fire after the rioting broke out. Police officers and a riot squad drove people away using police vans, according to an ANP reporter at the scene. The situation was scaled up to a Grip 2 regional emergency, a protocol where all first responders on the scene coordinate under a single commander, and a regional response team sets up in an office further away.
The mayor of The Hague, Jan van Zanen, gave police the authority to use tear gas, a police spokesperson confirmed after initial reporting from regional media outlet Regio15. Van Zanen also issued an emergency order for the area around Fruitweg, a spokesperson for the municipality of The Hague said.
The spokesperson said that the emergency order applies to a radius of 500 meters around the conference center. With the order, police can stop and screen anyone in the area, and then decide whether or not to sent them away. Anyone who does not leave can be arrested.
Transport company HTM said that tram 11 and bus 26 were being detoured by order of the police.

The city of Chicago is discontinuing the use of a gunshot detection technology service called ‘ShotSpotter’ this year. When questioned this week about what will take its place, Johnson suggested that there may be some emergency situations that could get a ‘non-police’ response.
This concept has disaster written all over it. Johnson singled out mental health emergencies as an example, but any law enforcement officer will tell you that these situations are dangerous because you never know what you’re walking into. Is the person armed? High on drugs or drunk?
All this will do is make the city less safe for the people. It’s exactly the wrong thing to do.
