Here, a Canadian man and his eight children (I’m sure there is a wife too I just didn’t see) have moved to Russia. He describes himself as a conservative Christian. They have moved there in search of the traditional values the Canadian (and Western) communist movement is currently destroying. I haven’t watched all of it yet but it certainly is a curiosity that I bet is on the minds of many conservatives. I hear many Canadian immigrants returning, or thinking of returning to their homelands for the same reason. This man becomes still more interesting because his trepidations to plunging into an alien culture are not as bad as the threats he feels at home.

“I utterly reject the Hamas monsters’ capitulation terms,” Netanyahu said. He explained that the terrorist group has demanded an end to the war, a complete IDF withdrawal from Gaza, the retention of its control of Gaza, and the release of the participants in the October 7 attack against Israel…
He spoke following the publication of a Wall Street Journal report of a renewed US drive together with mediating countries Egypt and Qatar to secure a hostage deal for the remaining 132 people held in Gaza, including a one-year-old baby.
According to The Wall Street Journal, a three-phase deal was on the table covering 90 days, in which Israeli civilians would be freed in exchange for the release of Palestinian terrorists jailed by Israel.
Israel would also have to withdraw the IDF from Gaza’s towns and cities, restore freedom of movement in the enclave, end drone surveillance, and double the amount of goods entering the Strip.
The second would involve the release of additional Palestinian prisoners in exchange for female IDF soldiers, plus the bodies of dead hostages.
During the third phase, Hamas would free male soldiers plus Israeli men of combat age, as Israel pulls some of its forces out of Gaza.
There would also be talks for a permanent cease-fire, an Israel-Saudi normalization deal, and a two-state resolution to the conflict.…

But he had harsh words for the protest campaign the families of the hostages have led demanding an immediate deal, warning that their activities only played into the hands of Hamas.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu doubled down on his harsh critique of Doha ahead of an anticipated meeting by US Central Intelligence Agency Director William Burns with Qatari, Egyptian, and Israeli officials in Europe on the possibility of a second hostage deal.

WSJ: 80% of Hamas Tunnels Still Intact Because the IDF Can’t Decide between Killing Sinwar and Saving the Hostages
Despite weeks of Israeli attempts to destroy them, as much as 80% of the extensive tunnel network beneath Gaza, belonging to Hamas, remains intact, hindering Israel’s primary military objectives, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday, citing American and Israeli officials.
Disabling the tunnels, which extend for over 300 miles beneath the narrow Gaza Strip – equivalent to approximately half the New York City subway system – would deprive Hamas of a relatively secure storage space for weapons and ammunition, a hiding place for fighters, command-and-control centers for its leadership, and the ability to move around the territory without being exposed to Israeli fire…
Is Israel Losing The War Because It Is Israel?
This is one more area where Israel’s perception of itself as a humanitarian and peaceful society sabotages its effectiveness in achieving victory. It’s holding back the efforts to just blow up those tunnels using bunker-busting bombs.
Not only would such bombings do the job of demolishing Hamas much faster, but they would also save the lives of IDF soldiers who are the direct victims of the slower approach to clearing the tunnels using the infantry.

As an afterthought to the above, isn’t it a commentary on the state of affairs that the man is compelled to choose between dictatorships. Also, he isn’t alone in believing a former dictatorship will be immune to becoming the same style of dictatorship again. In this case communism. In CJ Hopkins case it was escaping what he saw as rising western fascism so he moved to Germany. The jury is still out on Germany. Therefore it can be assumed that no perceived immunization is absolute and everlasting.
The Fourth Turning is a book about the predictive capability of economic cycles. This cycle theory observes the repeating pattern of human behavior in 80-100 year durations. That this duration resembles the span of human life is hardly coincidence. The cycle is subdivided in four 20-25 year “seasons”. Each season contains its own repeating characteristics of growth, destruction, innovation and maturation. According to this theory we are now in the fourth turning, which is the most destructive phase.
Grant Williams gives a great description of this cycle theory in the first half of this interview. It’s less about economics than it is about humanity. He is world famous for his financial analysis. Not everyone believes in cycle theory, but it is important to hear it out.

No more money will be going to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) for the time being, outgoing Minister Geoffrey van Leeuwen (Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation) announced. The organization is under investigation because employees may have been involved in the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7.
The Netherlands had previously transferred 19 million euros to the organization. As long as the investigation is ongoing, no further funds will be transferred, according to the ministry.
“These allegations are too serious,” said Van Leeuwen. “We first need to know exactly what will come out of the investigation and what steps the United Nations will take. The Netherlands will continue to provide humanitarian aid to the civilian population in Gaza through other channels.” Van Leeuwen said on Friday that he was already “shocked” and was considering suspending support.
Van Leeuwen wrote on X that he was shocked by the alleged involvement of UNRWA employees in the Hamas attack on Israel and considers the dismissal of the employees to be a step in the right direction.
Utrecht University of Applied Sciences postpones Holocaust lectures for “safety reasons”

Utrecht University of Applied Sciences has temporarily canceled a lecture series on the Holocaust. The educational institution reports that it will hold the series at a different time on Sunday, because “the safety of speakers, students, teachers and visitors cannot be guaranteed”.
The lecture series on the persecution of the Jews was supposed to start on February 7, but the university surprisingly announced that the series of eight lectures would be postponed indefinitely. The Utrecht University of Applied Sciences is accused of being influenced and guided by the pro-Palestinian activist group New Neighbors Utrecht, the Telegraaf reported.
The university’s spokesperson rejected this accusation and told the newspaper that the reason for the postponement is the temporal and historical context given the war in Gaza. “The reason is that we want to facilitate a diverse and balanced dialog on this issue. We need more time to put the events of October 7 and beyond into a broader perspective, with room for different opinions and beliefs.” However, the university was unable to provide any information on when the lecture series will continue.
The Jewish community and the lecturers who were to take part in the lecture vehemently criticized this decision. Lecturer Lotte Bergen, who was to give the fifth lecture on concentration camps, cannot understand the university’s decision and suspects anti-Semitic reasons. “It even seems anti-Semitic to me. If you allow history lessons to be dictated by current events in this way, something is completely wrong. This is about a series of lectures on the Holocaust between 1933 and 1945, the history of which is more important than ever to teach. And then a committee decides: We’re not going to do that for a while, it’s too complicated for us”.
Bergen is convinced that a clear signal needs to be sent. Teaching should no longer be determined by committees or a group of activists, she told the Telegraaf.
Chanan Hertzberger, chairman of the Jewish Central Consultation, finds it unacceptable that the university is allowing itself to be intimidated by the activist group. “It is shameful and deeply offensive that we cannot count the Board of Governors of Utrecht University of Applied Sciences among those who want to preserve the memory of the Holocaust.”
Director Naomi Mestrum of the Center for Information and Documentation Israel (CIDI) also cannot understand the postponement of the lecture series on the Holocaust. She wonders why the university even wants to update the thematic examination of the mass murder of over six million Jews that took place 80 years ago.
The Utrecht action group New Neighbours announced shortly after the university’s announcement that this was a victory for them. Sympathizers of New Neighbours Utrecht congratulate the organization at length: “A nice victory”, “outrageous that they wanted to hold this lecture series at all” and “I saw that a Holocaust survivor is coming as a speaker. Bizarre,” the Telegraaf reported.
Arnhem Mayor wants to argue for a ban on Quran desecration

Arnhem Mayor Ahmed Marcouch plans to firmly press national politicians for a national ban on Quran burnings. He thinks such a burning is “a poisonous act that leads to others being provoked,” he said on Wednesday during a City Council debate.
He was speaking about the attempt by Pegida leader Edwin Wagensveld to burn a Quran on January 13 in Arnhem, a protest which got out of control. Marcouch warned on Wednesday evening against “toxic polarization” and said he advocates more respect for each other’s opinions and views.
According to Marcouch, partly in view of national security, “a limit may have been reached with the burning of holy books.” He was in contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before and after the action in Arnhem. “These events do not only have consequences in Arnhem. Diplomats and Dutch people abroad can expect strong reactions,” said the Arnhem mayor. “It would be nice if the law offered us the opportunity to never see this Pegida man as a Quran burner in Arnhem.”
The Council debate was requested by the local Denk faction. They wanted to know why Marcouch did not ban the Quran burning in advance and whether he considered it a failure, as the proposed burning resulted in violence from counter-protesters. Marcouch said he regrets the course of events on January 13, but is faced with more complex considerations, he said.
“The right to demonstrate is a fundamental right and I protect it. I find what Pegida wanted reprehensible and atrocious, but the fundamental right stands, even if I don’t like it.”
The police are still evaluating whether enough officers were deployed. The problem was that at the very last moment there were large-scale calls for a counter-demonstration, especially among Muslims, during demonstrations in Nijmegen and Apeldoorn. Nijmegen is just 20 kilometeres away from Arnhem, and Apeldoorn is about 30 kilometers away by car.
Marcouch announced on Wednesday that he will not stand in the way of stunts by Pegida and others in the future as long as the law remains the same. Pegida informed the municipality on Wednesday that it wants to organize another Quran burning in Arnhem at the end of March. The Arnhem City Council on Wednesday called the desecration and burning of religious books and objects reprehensible, and an attack on social cohesion.
Dutch MP’s want anti-Semitism to be grounds for denying residency applications

The lower house of the Dutch parliament wants the government to look into whether anti-Semitism can be used as grounds to refuse or revoke someone’s residency permit to the Netherlands. A parliamentary majority supported a motion by SGP parliamentarian Diederijk van Dijk to that effect.
The conservative Christian party described anti-Semitism as “an evil” that must be “repressed and vigorously combated” in the Netherlands. Van Dijk pointed out that the number of anti-Semitic incidents in the Netherlands has been on the rise, especially since the war between Israel and Hamas broke out last year.
Van Dijk wants the Netherlands to follow Germany’s example. There, it is already possible to deport foreign nationals found guilty of anti-Semitism, and the country is working on a stricter policy to deny people German citizenship on this grounds, he said in the motion.
He thinks the Netherlands should at least give anti-Semitism more weight in the decision-making process around applications for asylum or other forms of residency.
The SGP motion was signed by parliamentarians from the VVD, BBB, and NSC – three of the four parties currently discussing forming the next Dutch government. The fourth party, the PVV, voted for the motion. It also got support from Christian parties ChristenUnie and CDA.
Dutch Senate approves law to force fair distribution of asylum seekers by 43-27 vote

A large majority in the Eerste Kamer, the Dutch Senate, voted in favor of a bill from the Cabinet to ensure that asylum seekers are received in all municipalities across the Netherlands. The measure allows the national government to force municipalities to take shelter asylum seekers even if they, and their residents, do not wish to comply.
A total of 43 senators gave approval to the new law in a roll-call vote with 70 senators present. The remaining 27 voted against the bill, and their were five people absent. The law must now be ratified by King Willem-Alexander. It is expected to take effect by February 1
The measure had the support of a broad group of left, center, and right political parties. GroenLinks-PvdA brought 14 votes to the table on Tuesday, the VVD brought 9 more, D66 had 5 yes votes, and CDA was good for another 4. The other parties joining them were ChristenUnie (3), PvdD (3), SP (2), Volt (2), and OPNL (1). Those opposed include the BBB (14), PVV (4), JA21 (3), FvD (2), SGP (2), and 50Plus (1). The opponents were also joined by Hugo Doornhof, who broke ranks from the CDA to vote against the measure.
With support from the VVD, the issue posed a threat to the current Cabinet formation negotiations. After the VVD signaled its intent to vote in favor of the asylum bill in the Senate, Geert Wilders repeatedly indicated that it was “a problem.”
Wilders is the leader of far-right wing party PVV, and he has been trying to form a government after winning the November general election. His party is currently in talks with the BBB, the largest party in the Senate, and the NSC. The party from former CDA MP Pieter Omtzigt is the fourth largest in the Tweede Kamer.
The PVV first wanted to form a government that includes the VVD, but the latter does not plan on joining the Cabinet. They have said for the past two months that they will support a minority government from Parliament, but a harsh stance on asylum policy has been a cornerstone of Wilders’ policy for years. His party is believed to have won over many VVD voters who were also in favor of a stricter position on the issue.
The fair distribution of asylum seekers based on municipal residency has been hotly contested for years, and was particularly divisive within the VVD, the party of Prime Minister Mark Rutte. It was a fellow party member, State Secretary Eric van der Burg, who drafted the law. Rutte himself needed to intervene to convince his party’s faction in the Tweede Kamer, the lower house of Parliament, to voice their support for the measure in November 2022.
However, Rutte’s fourth Cabinet fell seven months later over clashes with coalition partners about how to handle the asylum crisis in the Netherlands. When Van der Burg’s bill came to a vote in the Tweede Kamer in October 2023, one months before the general election, all 34 MPs from VVD voted against it.
One VVD senator was absent for Tuesday’s vote, as were senators from CDA and SP. Two senators from BBB also did not show up for the vote.

After years of Morocco refusing to take back asylum seekers who have exhausted all legal remedies in the Netherlands, that cooperation is now back on track and “almost ideal,” State Secretary Eric van der Burg (Asylum) told De Telegraaf. Moroccan people in asylum detention because their applications were rejected are now deported within a few weeks.
In the first eleven months of 2023, the Netherlands deported 250 Moroccan asylum seekers who had failed all legal remedies to Morocco. That is the highest number in ten years, according to the Return and Departure Service. Another 700 Moroccans will return to their home country in the coming six months. Last year, about 1,000 people from Morocco applied for asylum in the Netherlands.
Morocco stopped accepting citizens whose asylum applications were rejected after the Netherlands criticized the country’s suppression of the protest movement in the Rif Mountains. In recent years, the Dutch government invested a lot in improving the relationship between the two countries. The Cabinet agreed to speak out less about internal affairs in Morocco, and Van der Burg managed to make agreements with the Moroccan Minister of Interior last year about deporting asylum seekers who had exhausted all legal remedies.
Despite these successes, Van der Burg sees a new problem arising. According to him, asylum seekers from Morocco are adapting to the stricter policy. They often don’t wait for their application to be rejected but disappear to live undocumented in the Netherlands while the asylum process is still ongoing. “They know perfectly well that they are not allowed to stay and that if they are rejected, they will be put in immigration detention,” he told the newspaper. “That’s our problem now.”

Outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte denies that his Ministry interfered at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to hide or change unwelcome information about Israel. “That simply did not happen,” the outgoing government leader said in a letter to parliament on Thursday. On Friday, the International Court of Justice in The Hague will make an interim ruling on the genocide case South Africa filed against Israel over its incessant bombings of the Gaza Strip in the war against Hamas.
Last week, NRC reported that Rutte’s Ministry of General Affairs asked the Legal Affairs Directorate at Foreign Affairs: “What can we say so that it appears as if Israel is not committing war crimes.” According to Rutte, there is a lot of discussion between Ministries about advice on how to weigh in. “That is normal.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs previously denied that General Affairs had tried to sweep matters under the rug. The criticism to that effect came from a letter written by about 20 anonymous civil servants. The piece was used in an appeal by three civil society organizations against the Dutch State to stop the delivery of F-35 parts to Israel.
The officials also said that Rutte had interfered at the last minute to prevent the Netherlands from voting in favor of a UN resolution in December that called for “creating the conditions for a long-term cessation of hostilities” in the Gaza Strip.
The Prime Minister did not say who ultimately decided on the vote. That would affect the unity of Cabinet policy, according to Rutte. According to the anonymous officials, Minister Hanke Bruins Slot (Foreign Affairs) actually wanted to support the resolution. “I don’t even have the position to overrule anyone,” Rutte said.
He added that the anonymous civil servants shouldn’t be judged too harshly. The Prime Minister thinks the practice is a shame, but “let’s be a little more relaxed about it.” According to him, there is “no problem” at Foreign Affairs with officials leaking information, and there is room in the department to have a different opinion.
The war in Gaza is causing a lot of discussion within, among others, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. A few hundred civil servants also signed a letter last year stating that they believe the government is siding too much with Israel in the conflict. Officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have already demonstrated six times against the Cabinet’s attitude.
Genocide ruling
The International Court of Justice in The Hague will rule on emergency measures against the war in Gaza on Friday in the genocide case South Africa filed against Israel. Whether the court considers Israel’s actions genocide will likely only become clear in years to come. But it could order a stop to the fighting on Friday.
At the end of last year, South Africa filed a case with the International Court of Justice for violations of the Genocide Convention. If the court finds Israel guilty of this, it would be a particularly severe conviction. That ruling won’t be made today. Such cases typically take years. Today’s ruling only concerns “provisional measures.”
The court could order Israel to stop the fighting. Such a ruling cannot be appealed against and is legally binding. But as the court cannot enforce the ruling, it would likely remain without consequences. Israel has already said that it intends to keep its war going.
Since October 7th, Israel has killed over 25,000 Palestinians in Gaza, including over 10,000 children. The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced that the death toll reached 25,105 on Sunday, Al Jazeera reported. The war was sparked by Hamas attacks on Israel, killing nearly 1,200 people and taking around 200 hostages.
The International Court of Justice is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations. All 193 countries that are members of the UN can file a case there. In addition to the court’s 15 judges, two judges from the two countries involved will also join: Dikgang Moseneke from South Africa and Aharon Barak from Israel.
The court’s seat is in the Peace Palace in The Hague. Demonstrations are planned there on Friday, both by supporters and opponents of the Israeli war. There were also demonstrations and counter-demonstrations at the hearings two weeks ago.

The Texas National Guard this weekend installed more razor wire in Shelby Park amid an escalating border battle with the Biden Regime.
The US Supreme Court on Monday sided with the Biden Regime and allowed Border Patrol agents to remove razor wire installed on the Texas-Mexico border.
Gov. Greg Abbott (R) previously installed about 30 miles of razor wire at the Texas-Mexico border near Eagle Pass to stop the flood of illegal aliens being let in by the Biden administration.
In October Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit against the Biden Regime regarding their cutting razor wire at the border.
The lawsuit made its way to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals after a federal judge sided with Biden. The appeals court last month said agents could NOT cut the razor wire.
In a 5-4 vote, the Supreme Court granted Biden’s emergency request last Monday afternoon.
Conservative justices Roberts and Amy Coney Barrett (Trump appointee) sided with the liberals and granted the Biden Regime’s emergency request.

Republican Rep. Tom Emmer has said he is the latest victim in a long string of political figures being swatted.
Swatting is the act of calling in a fake police report, usually about a violent crime, to a person’s home or business — prompting a heavy police response.
Approximately 30 politicians, journalists, and other political figures have swatted in America since November.
“Tonight my family and I were the target of a ‘swatting’ incident involving a 911 prank call that wrongly diverted a police presence to my home,” Rep. Emmer said in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “Sadly, this illegal and dangerous scheme is being used nationwide to target elected officials.”
The Minnesota politician continued, “Thankfully, no one was home or injured. I condemn this illegal abuse of police resources. I want to thank the Wright County Sheriff’s Office for their professionalism and support. I will have no additional comment on this matter.”

Evergrande shares halted after Hong Kong court orders liquidation

Shares of China Evergrande
were halted after plunging over 20% in early trading on Monday after a Hong Kong court ruled to liquidate the embattled property developer.
It comes against the backdrop of a spiraling debt crisis in the country.
China Evergrande, which was once one of the country’s largest property developers, has in the last few years been enveloped in Beijing’s debt crisis.
The Wall Street Journal earlier reported that Evergrande’s overseas creditors failed to reach an 11th-hour deal this weekend to restructure, which could mean an imminent liquidation for the real estate developer.
Evergrande is the world’s most indebted property developer, which defaulted in 2021 and announced an offshore debt restructuring program in March last year.
Containing the contagion
Policymakers in China have been scrambling to stem the debt crisis in the beleaguered property sector.
Last week, the People’s Bank of China and the Ministry of Finance announced measures to help boost the liquidity available to property developers.
The measures, which will be valid until end of this year, will help ease a lingering cash crunch for Chinese developers after Beijing cracked down on the sector to address bloated debt levels in real estate.
